🛫 Heading off to Da Nang for two weeks! This vibrant beach city was William and my usual getaway during CNY, until COVID hit, that is. Haven't been back since 2020. As I waited for my flight to take off in a few hour's time, I wondered how much had changed over the last 4 years. (Stay tuned for that). On that note, I remembered something Vishen Lakhiani of Mindvalley told me years ago in the early days of KICKSTART.MY... we overestimate what we can achieve in a year but underestimate what we can achieve in three years. As I looked back over the last few years, a lot has changed, really. Sure, COVID might have accelerated a few things, but it has also spotlighted areas I need to pay attention to. That's definitely something that will be on my mind over the next two weeks in Vietnam. The good thing about visiting a city during its biggest festive celebration (Vietnamese celebrate Tet just as the Chinese celebrate CNY) is that it's usually a lot quieter. Fewer tourist spots operating means fewer tourists. Yes, I'll have to pay a surcharge for some food outlets, but it's a fair exchange for the peace of mind I'll get. Almost all construction jobs will be on hold, adding another layer of serenity to the atmosphere. Not to mention lesser air pollutants too. Locals will be leaving the city to go back to their hometowns, which means quieter roads too. But then again, as I write this, I'm reminded that it's based on what I know pre-COVID. Things might be a 180-degree change the moment I land! Well, that's the thrill of an adventure. It's a reflection of life too. You can't win them all, but you sure can learn regardless of the outcome. Are you heading anywhere during this CNY break? . . . Once in a quarter, I became a client of my own company. I mean to say, I try to do a few trips every quarter with a group of clients to get the real picture. Where I try to understand the client's needs and feedback on everything. One trip to Ladakh completely changed my perspective a few years ago. Blending in with the group, as somewhere traveling with WanderOn for the first time, instead of being the founder.  This unplanned experience highlighted the importance of customer-centricity. Today is Day 1 of 3 of a quick trip to #Toronto. My first two experiences have been great! (US cities, take note) 1) the transit from the airport to downtown was pretty seamless. It was as easy as tapping your card on a payment terminal, picking your destination, and that’s it. The service itself had a short wait and the cars were clean and the ride was smooth. It was akin to riding Acela in the states, but probably a level up from that. 2) The market (St Lawrence) is the market/food hall of people’s dreams! Two levels of meats and cheese and everything in between. As a comparison, Reading Terminal in Philly (a great market, mind you) is blown out of the water by this. It goes to show that building the experience is completely worth it. My takeaway is that you can have nice things (United States I’m talking to you). It seems like we need to demand more of our city leadership to make these amenities possible.
