We’re excited to announce that Operation Smile is returning to the 2024 Concordia Annual Summit as a patron programming partner! Last year, we had the privilege of participating in this transformative event, where our Chief Strategy Officer, Kristie Magee Porcaro, led a powerful fireside chat titled “Bridging Care Gaps: Empowering Health Workers for Global Equity.”       During this session, Kristie highlighted the critical role of supporting local #healthcare workers through education, training, and mentorship. She explained that strengthening #healthsystems is key to ensuring equitable access to essential health services, including #safesurgery and comprehensive care. These efforts not only save lives but also promote long-term economic growth by reducing financial burdens on families and helping individuals return to work, which benefits entire communities. By improving access to care and providing medical training, we can positively shape global health and advance health equity worldwide.        It was an invaluable opportunity to share our work with leaders and organizations dedicated to #healthequity. Co-hosted with American Medical Women's Association (AMWA) and supported by The G4 Alliance, Frontline Health Workers Coalition, Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), International Rescue Committee, Children's HeartLink, WFSA (World Federation of Societies of Anaesthesiologists), ISDE(International Society of Doctors for Environment) , Health Innovation Exchange - HIEx), CENTER FOR PUBLIC HEALTH, and Corporación Latinoamericana- Salud, this hybrid event will address the escalating global threat of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and the urgent need for collaborative action to combat it.    The event will feature distinguished guests including Her Excellency Madam Ann-Marie Davis, First Lady of the Bahamas; Her Excellency Madam Mellisa Seenacherry, First Lady of Suriname; and Her Excellency Malin Grape, Swedish AMR Ambassador. They, along with ministerial experts and civil society professionals, will discuss the challenges of AMR and emphasize the importance of global partnerships, innovative solutions, and future strategies. This week, the Ministry Of Health, Ghana launched the National Surgical, Obstetric, and Anaesthesia Plan (NSOAP), marking a significant step forward in strengthening the country’s #healthcare system and improving care for communities nationwide. The #NSOAP serves as a comprehensive roadmap designed to strengthen Ghana’s surgical system, ensuring that all Ghanaians have access to safe and timely surgical, obstetric, and anesthesia care. By integrating these needs into the broader framework of emergency, critical, and operative care, the plan aims to enhance the overall health infrastructure for all citizens. This initiative not only holds national significance but also sets a powerful example for other countries in the region and around the world. It represents a monumental step forward, paving the way for a future where its implementation will positively impact millions of lives.    It has been an honor to collaborate with the Ministry’s experts, the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons, and all members of the Ghana NSOAP Technical Working Group.
