Child marriage is a devastating practice that traps girls in a cycle of poverty, undermines their health and education, and exposes them to violence and exploitation. We’re committed to collaborating with communities, government agencies, and other stakeholders to create a future where every girl has the opportunity to reach her full potential. We're proud of our ongoing efforts in Pakistan, which include: • Empowering girls through education and life skills training. • Raising awareness about the negative impacts of child marriage. • Advocating for policy change to protect girls' rights. We are grateful for the recognition from National Commission on the Rights of Child (NCRC) and remain steadfast in our commitment to ending child marriage in Pakistan. Together, we can create a world where all children can thrive. #EndChildMarriage #GirlsEducation #PathfinderPakistan Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/eK2pjazt

Pleased to share that Pathfinder International's mass media campaign against child marriages in Pakistan has garnered national recognition by the National Commission on the Rights of Child Pakistan (NCRC) in their publication, The State of Children in Pakistan - Policy Meets Practice. The campaign, which addresses the deeply rooted issue of child marriage—affecting 18.3% of girls who are married before their 18th birthday and 3.6% before the age of 15—has been highlighted. Additionally, 4.7% of boys in Pakistan are married before the age of 18. Child marriage is not just a violation of children's rights but also a significant barrier to education, health, and economic stability for countless children. By bringing this issue to the forefront, we aim to disrupt the cycle of poverty and abuse that these practices perpetuate. The acknowledgment by the NCRC underscores the impact of our work and the urgent need for continued advocacy and action. https://lnkd.in/dYDx9GGk

Child marriage has become embedded within our culture, deemed as a detriment to the free will and livelihood of women worldwide. However, child marriage stems beyond a threat to women - but to the prosperity of our world as a whole. What if ending child marriage once and for all could contribute to global economic growth? The International Center for Research on Women estimates that if child marriage and early childbearing cease, the approximate global welfare benefit will be $566 billion by 2030. This is a direct consequence of the increased early fertility rate observed in child brides. Child marriage comes at a cost, not just to the oppressed young women, but to the Earth as a whole. Is this a toll you’re willing to pay? A GLOBAL CALL TO END CHILD MARRIAGE Child marriage robs these girls of their childhood, education, and future opportunities. This practice fuels poverty, gender inequality, and limits the potential of young girls to contribute meaningfully to society. Globally, approximately 12 million girls marry before 18 each year (UNICEF). This statistic represents millions of dreams deferred and futures compromised. Girls who marry before 18 are more likely to drop out of school and face domestic violence and health risks (World Health Organization). At OAFFOUNDATION, we are committed to providing education and vocational skills to empower girls, ensuring they have the tools to break free from this cycle of poverty and early marriage. Together, we can protect their futures and promote community development. #EndChildMarriage #EmpowerGirls #GirlsEducation #SaveTheChildren #ChildProtection #UNICEF #AfricaDevelopment76

I feel this article so deeply- as someone who has taught in schools where most children relied on free school lunch as their only guaranteed meal of the day. The question returns to what kind of society do we want to create and live in?
"Fa’anānā was right. It is hard to be poor, particularly when you are a #child. And especially if you’re one of the Māori, Pasifika, or disabled children who has seen no change in material hardship in the last few years and where current public discourse invalidates that experience." In my role at #UNICEFAotearoa, I shared this piece about my concerns for children across the country. Rather than the 'tough love' rhetoric we are hearing, we urgently "need to see evidence-based policies and discourse that lifts children up and out of poverty." https://lnkd.in/gWp_rZj9 #children #childpoverty #tamariki

Wonderful WWF Women! Can you believe how quickly this week is flying by? We’re feeling the rush too. Earlier this week, there was alarming news from a state in Nigeria about plans to marry off over 100 children who had tragically lost their parents to banditry in the Mariga Local Government Area of Niger. So, today, we are shining a light on the grave issue of forced child marriage and the immense harm it inflicts upon young girls. Make sure you stay with us through this conversation. FORCED MARRIAGE Forced child marriage is a blatant violation of children’s rights, depriving them of education, health, and protection from harm. It robs them of their autonomy and condemns them to a future marked by suffering. Forced marriage occurs when one or both parties involved cannot or do not consent to the union. It represents a severe form of violence against women and young girls, compromising their physical, mental, and reproductive health. It poses a grave threat to their lives and futures. According to the United Nations, “every year, at least 12 million girls are married before they reach the age of 18. This is 28 girls every minute.” Shockingly, global prevalence studies suggest that it will take 300 years to eradicate child marriage. We’ve reached a critical juncture where raising fierce awareness and advocating for change are essential to protect the rights and futures of countless young girls. In our upcoming posts, we'll discuss the impacts of child marriage and explore actionable steps to combat this injustice. CHILD EARLY AND FORCED MARRIAGE According to UNICEF, about 44% of girls in Nigeria are married off before the age of 18. Child Early and Forced Marriage refers to a formal or informal union between a child under the age of 18 and an adult or another child. It also refers to situations where children especially girls are married off before the age of 18. Child Early and Forced Marriage is considered as Human Rights violation that robs children especially girls of their childhood, education and limits their possibilities for growth and stability. Child Early and Forced Marriage results in increased risks of violence, abuse, rape, sexual assault, early pregnancy, maternal mortality and morbidity. Poverty, culture, limited education, gender inequality, lack of legal protection amongst others are the causes of child early and forced marriage. Efforts to combat child early and forced marriage require addressing these root causes through legal reforms, awareness campaigns, education initiatives, and community engagement. A child needs education not marriage to lead a prosperous life. #SRH4U #EndViolence #NoExcuse #ChildEarlyAndForcedMarriage #16Days #16DaysWithEva #16DaysofActivism #Day7of16 Education as a Vaccine Education as a Vaccine (EVA) Royal Norwegian Embassy in Abuja @UNFPA Nigeria
