Face to face will always be the comms ruler

Face to face will always be the comms ruler

I recently attended Indoor Ag Con in Vegas where our team were on hand to share the cool stuff we do (and do well). What it brought home to me was something I already knew but still has relevance even in these tech heavy modern times - the importance of face to face when it comes to connecting with growers (or anyone you want to sell to).

The handshakes, the non-verbal communication that tells you so much more than simple words in an email can convey.

Yes the cost to attend can be large but when you bring together experts in the field with those interested in learning or buying – it’s the perfect speed dating situation.

The other interesting dynamic was the social media aspect. If you want to play in that space you have to be there. Being social doesn’t work so well when you are remote from an event. It’s possible but doesn’t have the same timeliness and authenticity you get if you’re actually there. Taking that quick snapshot of a speaker and Tweeting that out, or responding to someone who is also there and making a coffee date with them.

As a communicator face to face is always a great chance to show your enthusiasm, your passion and your openness. It shows people the genuine love you have for your product or your company. And our team is always passionate about what we do so it’s an easy win for us.

So however technology evolves going forward, talking to someone in person will always be a powerful tool to utilise – you just have to make sure you send the right people.
