(official) FTP server

Motivation
[edit]There are roughly six current uses of URL (P2699)/official website (P856) which link to FTP servers; all six are listed above. Since only HTTP servers can function as websites, it would make sense to either create a different property for FTP servers or only allow linking to FTP servers with URL (P2699). (I've updated the property constraint for P2699 to allow linking to FTP servers, but I don't know if there is consensus for doing so.) Jc86035 (talk) 17:35, 14 April 2019 (UTC)
Discussion
[edit]- Weak oppose I don't think how can be useful this property. The first example, it's surely a de facto webpage. official website (P856) specifies the official website of the element, URL (P2699) is more general, used as a qualifier. It's true that the Web was a concept that came with HTTP, but, actually, URL (P2699) can be used to specify any important Internet url that could be many important, if there isn't a more specific property for that. --Tinker Bell ★ ♥ 05:15, 15 April 2019 (UTC)
- Support similar to official blog URL (P1581), SPARQL endpoint URL (P5305), API endpoint URL (P6269). This even if it can be seen as old tech like Minitel code (P2878), fax number (P2900). --- Jura 02:51, 23 April 2019 (UTC)

- Weak oppose Open FTP sites seem to be very rare these days, do you really think we'll have many more than six uses for this in Wikidata? ArthurPSmith (talk) 13:41, 6 May 2019 (UTC)
- Comment In Wikipedia, there seem to be plenty of ftp servers mentioned.--- Jura 16:38, 11 May 2019 (UTC)
- A little Oppose, because I doubt if there are still really FTP usages once 5G has deployed to many ISPs. --Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 10:28, 3 June 2019 (UTC)
