Motivation
[edit]The London Stock Exchange has information on many notable PLCs that are listed on it, so it will provide a useful identifier. It can also be given a constraint to ensure that stock exchange (P414) is always on the item. Lewis Hulbert (talk) 10:55, 26 August 2020 (UTC)
Discussion
[edit]We already have ticker symbol (P249).--GZWDer (talk) 15:55, 27 August 2020 (UTC)
- Ticker symbol is for use as a qualifier for stock exchange (P414) and is unsuited for use as a complete replacement to an external identifier. Since there's ticker symbol conflicts across markets (i.e. Archer Daniels Midland (Q632694) and Admiral Group (Q267417) both sharing the symbol ADM) it can't have a distinct-values constraint (Q21502410) to assist in preventing duplicate items, create a mix'n'match catalogue or have a useful formatter URL. --Lewis Hulbert (talk) 09:10, 28 August 2020 (UTC)
- Support I agree with Lewis Hulbert. We had this same discussion already at Wikidata:Property proposal/Bursa Malaysia stock code. --99of9 (talk) 23:59, 29 September 2020 (UTC)
