Template talk:Disney Channel original series

Latest comment: 5 years ago by IJBall in topic Pup Academy

The template does not include all the shows produced by Disney. All the shows are included in List of programs broadcast by Disney Channel. Should the template include all the shows or only the current ones? =D Jumping cheese Contact 23:31, 16 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Currently Running

edit

I think that there is need for it to be in the "currently running" order since u can always view the show's time period on the shows's page or on the wiki page that says the list of original shows from that channel, the reason for the color is that is is more appealing to the eye and it represents that channel's official color.I really hope that you will respect my decision.744cody (talk) 20:36, 16 December 2010 (UTC)

New look

edit

Ok. whos idea was it too add all that stuff to the template? This isn't a "disney channel" template, its for disney channel SHOWS. not every dcom that 1 person deems "popular". Can we please change it back?? --Malevious Userpage •Talk Page• Contributions 22:54, 14 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

2000-present?

edit

I think we should have the Disney Channel shows that are now on Disney Channel used in this category. It seems to be more directed towards the Disney Channel series that aren't on anymore. But since Even Stevens might be coming back, let's leave it on there.

Upcoming Series

edit

Why delete that group? Don't you guys think people deserve to see what shows are going to debut on Disney Channel soon? Geekboy6 (talk) —Preceding undated comment was added at 05:23, 17 November 2008 (UTC).Reply

Things always change. Shows could be greenlit and then cancelled. If you have a Disney Channel Medianet source, then go ahead and add it. But if nothing comes from Disney, please do not add it. --Yankeesrj12 (talk) 20:29, 25 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

The Emperor's New School

Edit request from Franko553, 5 September 2010

edit

{{editsemiprotected}} "Fish Hooks" premiered on September 3. It should therefore be moved from "Upcoming" to "Currently Running". Franko553 (talk) 18:40, 5 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Year ranges

edit

Are they really needed? Based on recent edits there seems to be some confusion as to what they mean so is there are reason why they can't be amalgamated into one "Ended/cancelled" section? --AussieLegend (talk) 06:58, 27 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

I assume that the lack of responses means that the date ranges are unnecessary. --AussieLegend (talk) 17:29, 2 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

Pup Academy

edit

Would this count as a Disney Channel Original? I don't think it would be, as Air Bud Entertainment, the company who solely produces the series isn't owned by Disney. Luigitehplumber (talk) 22:17, 27 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

It depends what the end-credits say or have in terms of production cards – if there's anything in the credits that indicates that Disney is providing funding to produce the show, then they are a "producer" of the show, and it can be considered a "Disney Channel original series". See User talk:IJBall/Archive 27#Template:Nickelodeon original series and Nicktoons‎ and Max & Ruby for a related discussion – it was the same issue: were three series "Nickelodeon original series"? – but when I checked the end credits all three actually were "Nickelodeon original series" because the end credits confirmed that Nickelodeon was contributing (some of) the money that allows the series to be produced. --IJBall (contribstalk) 15:06, 28 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
It is a Disney Channel Original in that it first aired on Disney Channel, not on some other network. Production company is irrelevant. Geraldo Perez (talk) 17:37, 28 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
What's directly relevant is whether Disney shows up in the end-credits as a producer – if they do, it's a "Disney Channel original series"; if they don't, it's not. That actually has nothing to do with where it first airs, IMO. --IJBall (contribstalk) 18:40, 28 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
I agree with Geraldo. A Disney Channel original series means it first aired on Disney. Same thing with a "Netflix original series" means it aired first on Netflix regardless of who produced the show. For example, ODAAT is a Netflix original but it's produced by Sony. OITNB is a Netflix original but it's produced by Lionsgate. That's how it's always worked. It doesn't matter who produced it and sold it to Netflix. You will also notice that even Disney Channel original films lead says produced for not "produced by" because that has always been the definition of a channel/network original content. The issue to me is the word "original" – that implies to me that Disney (or whomever) is actually involved in the making of the show. Again, you can tell because of the production card in the end-credits (or with Netflix sometimes at the start of a show). IOW, a show wouldn't be a "CBS original series" just because a, say, Sony-produced TV "first airs on CBS". Yes it would be a "CBS series", but it wouldn't be a "CBS original series". So, yeah – to me, there's a difference... Generally, however, in the case of Disney and Nickelodeon series, Disney and Nick do put up some of the money, and so they usually qualify as "Disney/Nick original series" both ways. --IJBall (contribstalk) 20:08, 29 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
