Jadwiga Maria Potocka

edit

I was browsing cat:allprod and saw this. It’s rare that I approve of a PROD as strongly as this one (in fact I think the procedure should be banned for abuse as CSD and en bloc AfD suffice), but this page is useless.

In fact, it looks more like a quasi-hoax to me due to the multiple factual inconsistencies. Obviously there have been people that name (like the 19th century portrait sitter depicted there; by the way, Franz Xaver Winterhalter, the artist, died in 1867 IIRC 1873), but the article is pure fiction. Nice work spotting it.

But also, as you’re a relatively new editor, please please please be circumspect about using PROD. It’s not a good way to deal with many of the pages that end up there and we have too many experienced editors already who like to bend the rules. Again, thank you. I thought it was strange that I couldn't find any factual evidence about the person or what information I found simply did not match with what was on the article. The chief reason I used PROD was it seemed like it wouldn't be controversial to delete it as the notification about lacking sources had been present since 2009 and I myself was unable to find any verifiable sources, and the article had been more or less untouched for awhile. I am unlikely to use PROD in the future, I understand your concerns. Brocade River Poems 22:26, 5 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
Also, regarding the portrait by Franz Xaver Winterhalter, that appears to be an Hr.Jadwiga Branicka z Potockich. Siostra Hr. Pelagii Potockiej. Portret autorstwa Franca Xawera Winterhaltera(1805-1873) per this and this. It also aligns with this source that says he painted Jadwiga Branicka née Potocka. About Thomas Lockley's article

edit

Hello. New information has been brought to us regarding Lockley's article. I've sent the same information to a few people in case they haven't noticed. Please check the contents if you wish. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Thomas_Lockley 153.248.52.69 (talk) 02:19, 23 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

I mean this with the utmost sincereity and respect I can muster -- I do not care. The only reason I participated in that talk page was trying to help narrow down when exactly he taught and at which institution. When I could not find anything conclusive, I moved on. I don't feel competent to offer an "official" third opinion, but from reading through the debate, it's clear to me that you have the right of it.

Just thought I'd offer some encouragement, since it looks like two different users decided to take issue with the "prostitutes" descriptor, heh—hopefully, a more-qualified user than I will be able to convince 'em.

Cheers,

The ironic part of this is that I am not advocating in any way for the inclusion of the word "Prostitute" on the article. The other editor keeps adding mentions of prostitutes. All I suggested is that the lead should represent what the reliable sources say, which is that geji sometimes had sex with their clients. At no point did I ever say that the word "prostitute" should be added. Brocade River Poems 20:37, 3 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

Thanks! I chose to do Articles for Creation because I wasn't completely confident in just making an article myself. In theory, I figured others might be able to find some fault I might have overlooked during creation, and if so, that would be good for the encyclopedia. I just want to thank you for all the effort you put into the Yasuke article. I find it a scandal that your effort was used as evidence against you, and that you are assumed to be a gategamer because you are new and posted on the Yasuke thread. Your biggest mistake seems to have been being fair to people you disagree with. I found your translations helpful. Tinynanorobots (talk) 12:08, 15 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

People can say what they wish about me. It is what it is. In the end, it's not worth the headache dealing with everything involved with that article any longer. I suppose if both sides of the dispute hate me as belonging to the other camp, it must be a testament to my neutrality. My involvement began because a singular editor's translation work was being held up as the definitive article, and I knew sayamaki had multiple possible meanings. Had I been a smarter woman, I'd of ended my involvement there. Any future activity I engage in on Wikipedia will remain confined to that which I enjoy, nothing more, and nothing less, and hopefully there won't be so much in the way of drawing battlelines.
