Please partially undo edits in future

edit

You can partially restore content without undoing all other beneficial parts of an edit, you know: [1] I suggest you learn how to do this, because rowheaders and captions are part of the Wikipedia-wide requirement that is WP:ACCESSIBILITY and they should not be removed just because you wanted to add the French chart position back. Infodisc

edit

Hello. Regarding your restoration of Infodisc data post-1985, I don't particularly care and since your revert on the Jason Donovan article article in July I've tried to bear that in mind, but personally if I know a source to contain falsified or to have invented its own synthesized information I would try to avoid citing it for anything, and I would hope other editors would follow that principle too. I understand pre-1990s SNEP data is patchy for whatever reason, but I was also wondering: Did you take part in the original discussion on determining how Infodisc's post-1985 data is reliable/sourced from SNEP and can be trusted, but its pre-1985 data cannot be and if so, could you explain why this is? Thanks. Ss112 13:27, 18 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi Ss112 and sorry for my bad English! To answer your question: no, I was not involved in the discussions regarding Infodisc.fr; however, as I live in France and saw or listened the singles and albums charts shows when they were broadcast on television or radio, I know that what is written on WP:CHARTS is correct.
I remind you that in France, the first official singles chart was issued on 4 November 1984, and the albums chart in 1985, although there were official certifications before these dates, which means that all charts prior to these dates are unofficial. The problem is that there is no complete archive available for singles and albums certifications and for albums charts between 1985 and 1996. There are some reliable infos published in printed books or magazines, but they are incomplete and hard to find (for example, the book Muz Hits.Tubes by Elia Habib that I own provides the singles certifications for the 1984-2002 period only, as well as the albums certifications and peak positions for a selection of artists only; similarly, the Platine magazine published the album and singles charts for the pre-1996 period). Regarding the official singles charts published by the SNEP, Lescharts.com gives a complete archive (1984-today) and is therefore the source to use as reference in the WP articles; however, on this site, the albums charts start in 1996, so there are about 11 years missing. As for the SNEP site, it only provides singles and albums certifications from 1994.
Concerning Infodisc.fr, this site uses its own methodology to establish the chart positions of singles, since it includes airplay, while the official SNEP charts are only based on sales (+ streaming now), while the albums charts before 1985 are not official; so these peak positions and albums chart runs must be rejected. On the other hand, the albums positions given from this date are correct because they are the same as those given during the weekly Top Albums broadcast at the time. Furthermore, the certifications on Infodisc.fr are very useful because many of them can't be found elsewhere (especially for the pre-1994 period, except in books or magazines); in addition, it sometimes gives more accurate certifications than on the SNEP site, as it distinguishes "silver" and "gold" for singles, while the SNEP merged them all into the "gold" category. Of course, I understand that it may be surprising to find Infodisc.fr listed in both "WP:GOODCHARTS" and "WP:BADCHARTS", but it is the only archive we have that is complete and easily accessible.

Citing Australian weekly chart information from mid-1988

edit

Hi there, I recently corrected some information you added about the Australian chart performance of Bananarama's "I Want You Back" single. In case you were not aware, australian-charts.com only has the weekly Australian top 50 charts from the first week that ARIA commenced producing the chart in-house. That's why "I Want You Back" is listed as debuting at #3 in Australia that week, when it was actually its sixth week in the top 50. If you need correct information on the Australian charts from this cross-over period, I'm willing to assist you with some resources - message me. Thanks otherwise for your edits.Nqr9 (talk) 14:56, 18 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
