Hello, I'm Binksternet. I wanted to let you know that one or more of your recent contributions to Sebastian Steudtner have been undone because they appeared to be promotional. Advertising and using Wikipedia as a "soapbox" are against Wikipedia policy and not permitted; Wikipedia articles should be written objectively, using independent sources, and from a neutral perspective. - Hi @Binksternet. One question: If additions to accolades of well-known people is promotional how come there is a "recognition" category on Wikipedia with lists of prizes people have won. Must be of interest to readers, doesn't it? Hangar Monk (talk) 17:20, 11 May 2023 (UTC)
- Certainly. But the prizes should be significant enough to be covered by the media in general. Per WP:INDISCRIMINATE, not everything that is provably true about a topic is worthy of inclusion in the Wikipedia article about that topic. The intention of the encyclopedia is to summarize the most important stuff about each topic. Not the lesser details. Binksternet (talk) 17:42, 11 May 2023 (UTC)
- Good point. But then why are there mentions of Forbes, Fast Company etc. recognitions that no media outlets reports on except for Forbes, Fast Company themselves? If media coverage is the main criteria then these entries should be reverted, too. Hangar Monk (talk) 18:41, 11 May 2023 (UTC)
- You should feel free to remove lesser awards from articles after you make a good faith attempt to confirm the award being mentioned in uninvolved media sources, and find nothing. Major awards such as Forbes 30 Under 30 should not be removed as they are regularly discussed by other media outlets. Binksternet (talk) 19:51, 11 May 2023 (UTC)
