Nicholas Briggs is a British actor and writer, predominantly associated with the BBC science fiction television series Doctor Who and its various spin-offs. Some of Briggs' earliest Doctor Who-related work was as host of The Myth Makers, a series of made-for-video documentaries produced in the 1980s and 1990s by Reeltime Pictures in which Briggs interviews many of the actors and writers involved in the series. When Reeltime expanded into producing original dramas, Briggs wrote some stories and acted in others, beginning with War Time, the first unofficial Doctor Who spin-off, and Myth Runner, a parody of Blade Runner showcasing bloopers from the Myth Makers series built around a loose storyline featuring Briggs as a down on his luck private detective in the near future.

He wrote and appeared in several made-for-video dramas by BBV, including the third of the Stranger stories, In Memory Alone opposite former Doctor Who stars Colin Baker and Nicola Bryant. He also wrote and appeared in a non-Stranger BBV production called The Airzone Solution (1993) and directed a documentary film, Stranger than Fiction (1994).

Briggs has directed many of the Big Finish Productions audio plays, and has provided Dalek, Cybermen, and other alien voices in several of those as well. He has also written and directed the Dalek Empire and Cyberman audio plays for Big Finish. In 2006, Briggs took over from Gary Russell as executive producer of the Big Finish Doctor Who audio range.

Briggs co-wrote a Doctor Who book called The Dalek Survival Guide.

Since Doctor Who returned to television in 2005, Briggs has provided the voices for several monsters, most notably the Daleks and the Cybermen. Briggs also voiced the Nestene Consciousness in the 2005 episode "Rose", and recorded a voice for the Jagrafess in the 2005 episode "The Long Game"; however, this was not used in the final episode because it was too similar to the voice of the Nestene Consciousness. He also provided the voices for the Judoon in both the 2007 and 2008 series. On 9 July 2009, Briggs made his first appearance in the Doctor Who spin-off Torchwood in the serial Children of Earth, playing Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Secretary Rick Yates.

Unit: Dominion is a four part audio drama featuring U.N.I.T, the Seventh Doctor plus a new character billed as "The Other Doctor" working together to stop various different creatures from other dimensions spilling through gateways to Earth.

This was both imaginative and intriguing, so I would recommend going into it knowing as little as possible as I unfortunately didn't. I will mention though that this story features Raine Creevy and Dr Elizabeth Klein who are returning characters from other Big Finish audio dramas. Raine is a companion that was introduced the the "Lost Stories" range in stories based on concepts from the unproduced season 27 and Klein is a character from previous main range stories and is at this point in time scientific adviser at U.NI.T. I don't think it is necessary to listen to there previous stories however as everything that you need to know is explained in the story.

I did enjoy this set especially as it introduces Alex Macqueen's "Other Doctor", who appears in other Big Finish stories. I recommend it highly.

A whopping four-hour long audio play, this begins with two separate strands that meet up at the half-way point. In one, we have the Seventh Doctor travelling through alternate dimensions with companion Raine Creevy. Raine is based on the character originally intended to follow Ace had the TV series not been cancelled in 1989, and she hasn't appeared in the regular Big Finish stories before. Here at least, she comes across as a fairly "generic" companion, despite some references to her background. This thread is by no means dull, but taken on it's own, it doesn't really ramp up until that half-way cliffhanger, either.

It is, however, initially overshadowed by the second plot thread, which follows former time-travelling Nazi Elizabeth Klein as the new UNIT scientific advisor, teaming up with a future version of the Doctor (who is deliberately vague about what number he is). Klein is superb as always, and her understandable distrust of the Doctor is played to the hilt, making for a great dynamic. Alex MacQueen, as the future Doctor, also does a good job, with a mix of over-the-top camp and more serious determination and pragmatism. Once the two plot threads collide and the two Doctors properly meet for the first time, there is also some great interplay between them.

The Earthbound parts of the plot concern a series of invasions as one race of bullet-proof aliens after another pop up through inter-dimensional portals. The aliens in question are pretty inventive, some of them being the sort of thing you could imagine a more regular-length story being based around. That they'd require entirely too much CGI to do well helps reinforce one of the strengths of audio (although a novel would do just as well, of course).

UNIT itself doesn't come particularly favourably out of this, and fans of the Third Doc may want to note that it's set some time after the Brigadier et al. have retired (the specifics are unclear, but I'd guess that it's probably set in the 1980s), so all the characters are new. While the senior officers come across as rather dim military types, Sergeant Wilson gives the team a more human face, although he's largely there in a supporting role.

All in all, this is an epic story, which, perhaps surprisingly, given its length, doesn't flag at any point, and remains engaging all the way through. A knowledge of Klein's previous stories will certainly help with understanding her subplot, and her attitude towards the Doctor(s), although it is briefly recapped for those unfamiliar with it. So, it's far from being an introductory story, but nonetheless an exciting and original tale that's well worth the 4 hours devoted to it.

There are moments that this really does deserve more than 3-stars, but those are moments and performances. The stories themselves aren’t really quite there, but the characterizations from the actors almost make up for what’s lacking from the script. Alex McQueen is absolutely brilliant and, of course, Sylvester McCoy is as delightful and mischievous as ever, and Tracey Childs certainly doesn’t slack off either. To be fair, I also had some rather high expectations for this set, perhaps unfairly high.

It actually never occurred to me before getting this that this was the first appearance of the Reborn Master. So I knew the "twist" going in. Was it actually supposed to be a twist? What was the listener reaction back then? I mean, come on. Were Big Finish really going to introduce a future incarnation of The Doctor? With the War Doctor not yet a thing, were they hoping people would think this was The Doctor who'd fight the Time War? But of course, they ended up doing essentially what the episode "Utopia" did, revealing this person believed to be a future Doctor to be The Master. A bit longer than the story needed to be, but I actually was engaged, despite already knowing where this was all going.

I really enjoyed listening to this four-part Doctor Who audio adventure. I travel quite a bit for work and found myself longing to be in my car, listening to this story! The script keeps the listener wrapped up in the adventure, and wondering what will happen next. There's a great surprise to be heard.
Fans of Sylvester McCoy's Seventh Doctor will really enjoy this trans-dimensional audio adventure, I certainly did. Thank you Big Finish!

The second Doctor was pretty brilliant and so was the twist, I thought. Other than that there were so many people everywhere that I didn't really care all that much for, and it never felt like the Doctor or his companion was ever in any actual danger. It is nice to see him fooled once in a while, though, and the return of Klein worked rather well.

In this story, we see Dr Elizabeth Klein, a scientific advisor at Unit confronted with the Dr, but not the one she remembers. Meanwhile Raine and the Dr are on their own adventure and end up crossing time streams with this future Dr. The story is quite entertaining. I think that I would have enjoyed the story a bit more if I had actually heard the previous stories with Klein.

Oh goodness... I'm pretty sure I finished this?
But now I can't recall, I guess I'll have to listen to it again as I only vaguely remember anything about it. Which bothers me. I don't like to be bothered by this. So I guess next time I'm doing the dishes I'll be listening to this.

This story suffered a good deal from the coincidence of having just listened to another story in which two generations of Doctor featured. It didn't help that the two Doctors in question were from the waning years of the original TV series, doctors (and companions) with whom I am not familiar - although this book did much to help me with this and I'd be keener to read books featuring them now than before.

There are lots of moral questions in this story, lots of good decisions that don't turn out well. There's a splendid monster quotient as a result of the leakage of other dimensions to earth, big lizards, big spiders, mind leeches (eeeeyuck) and most bizarrely of all giant floating baby heads. The latter create a far more sinister atmosphere than you'd think from something sounding plain silly.

There's a central character of another doctor, Elizabeth Klein, UNITs Scientific Advisor, one who holds the fort whilst their exasperating former post holder goes AWOL in space and time and doesn't always come back looking the same way he did when he left. She has a dark secret which is secret even from her - and although we get plenty of references to it, the detail remains too secret to the listener too to have the impact it should. The engaging Geordie UNIT sergeant dutiful husband and expectant father Pete is another good character - although his family story never really gets interesting enough.

Well, this one threw in everything except the kitchen sink! Rifts between dimensions are allowing weird creatures into our world...and so we get giant spiders, nasty insects, energy vampires, and flying heads...head that look like babies. Yeah, flying baby heads! UNIT's scientific advisor, Elizabeth Klein, tries to deal with the situation, as well as the appearance of not one, but apparently TWO incarnations of the Doctor! A lot going on, but it's fun stuff!

By far one of the longer doctor who books I’ve listened to but that just allowed time for the story to grow. It got a little confusing for a bit but if you focused on the story it was easy to follow. Didn’t really care for the giant floating baby heads. Their description creeped me out. There was a couple really loud noises where you had to adjust the volume and then hurry to turn it up as someone spoke.
Loved the line, “Ow! Did you just lick my mind!”

I consistently enjoy Sylvester McCoy as the Doctor, particularly in audio. He has a perfect voice for audio dramas, immediately identifiable. This extended story arc is a pleasure with lots of monsters! I can't go into the storyline--spoilers! My only complaint is that a few of the supporting characters were extremely one dimensional and one note.

To fully appreciate this one, you should be familiar with the previous Klein audios (from the Main Range) -- Colditz, A Thousand Tiny Wings, Survival of the Fittest/Klein's Story, and The Architects of History -- and perhaps be introduced to Raine (from the Lost Stories).

Long than usual, large scale audio play from BF and I was totally sucked in by it. Wonderful twists and turns especially with one of the characters, and a nice segue into more UNIT dramas. More please :)

The Doctor and Raine Creevy get a message from Ace on Gallifrey that there is a problem with the timeline. The Master impersonates the Doctor and goes to Earth to help UNIT advisor Klien with time rifts and aliens. With the Doctor and Klien defeat the Master before the Earth is destroyed.

The premise of the adventure is two Doctors meeting in one timeline, even though that's not supposed to happen. Throughout the first two-thirds, there were various little things that had me confused based on my knowledge of canon. About the time I was ready to throw in the towel in frustration, there was finally the reveal needed to make sense of things and really get the plot whipping along.
