Anything For You Sir

Rate this book
Dear Author,
This Dom is gruff and grumpy. He’s rough around the edges and hard to please. Many even say he is too rough on his subs. What is his story? Is he too far gone to find love? And will his love be predictable in any way?

Photo Description:
Dom Daddy: Muscular, in shape, hairy bear of a man who is obviously very dominant. Our gentleman is a little rough around the edges. He wears a cock ring, has a Prince Albert piercing, and a pierced left nipple. He is wearing leather arm bands which partially cover tattoos on both upper arms. With his head lowered, he appears to be avoiding the camera, or is there more to it?

This story was written as a part of the M/M Romance Group's "Love Has No Boundaries" event. Group members were asked to write a story prompt inspired by a photo of their choice. Authors of the group selected a photo and prompt that spoke to them and wrote a short story.

This book might have been much better if it hadn't suffered from the "no pronoun"-disease.

Example (NSFW text):

That's 20 times a name instead of a personal pronoun (or--god beware--a well-chosen epithet!) within a meagre three paragraphs, or 254 words, 234 if you deduct those names. This is not sexy or erotic. It's not even the worst 3 paragraphs in the story. This nonsense goes on and on.

I'm very sorry, but this is hellishly soporific (especially as the author uses two names so similar to each other), it's not good English, it's "m/m speak" at its worst, and unfortunately no one seems to ever really call out against it. I know where it comes from, foremostly the inane vilifying of epithets among US writers and lazy writing (it is quite possible to use personal pronouns with a bit of thought into sentence and action structure), and it is so exasperating that it takes me right out of the story and plot.

As I said--might have been much better.

This was amazing! The characters were well rounded and endearing, the story felt real. In many of the BDSM books, the characters are involved in daily 'scenes'. While any sexual activities of S&M enthusiasts are most likely rough, the majority of people have jobs and other activities that keep real 'scenes' from happening daily. I enjoyed seeing the variety of sexual interactions, especially since they worked such a hard job.
The secondary characters were charming and put the finishing touches on a great story. I'm glad the end wasn't tied up in a neat bow since any investigation that involves drugs and a federal officers isn't going to. Drug dealers would have their property confiscated, and it would be a long battle to prove that any land was not actually the property of the criminals. It would be even harder to prove that money held by the criminals at the time of arrest was due to a private citizen instead of held as profit from illegal drug dealing.
I want to know more about the secondary characters, PLUS! I need more Jerome already! He was so hot!

An impressively long story for this smokin' hot prompt photo. The growing ship between Jason and Jerome was really nice. Stealth nightime intercrural sex rocks :) Or, is, um, sexual assault. See below. Yet again, I may have not thought this through.

The details on all the delicious food were excellent; it was no suprise to find out the author's a chef.

This was a short from the Love Has No Boundaries promo which means it was free.
Jerome is a SUPER grumpy iron worker who, years later, is still mourning the death of his boy/husband after Hurricane Katrina. Jason is a 'boy' sent by Master Sampson to help Jerome with his work and hopefully more. As a premise, the McGrump & the sweet boy is appealing for me but this had one too many issues, soap opera style issues, Mercy Celeste type issues, and this was a short.
Jerome has Dallas/Dynasty calibre of drama, each more unbelievable than the next and he kind of crosses the line from grump to a**hole with Jason. Jason is hot, gorgeous, willing to work under grueling heat for a guy who doesn't even want him there. He's abandoned a career in law, run away to some kind of BDSM camp that churns out 'boys' and is now doing unpaid physical labor in the Louisiana heat. If I had gone into reading slave fiction I would've been more on-board. Other annoyances were the vernacular rendering of speech for Marie and Ant, a mother & son restaurantuers who are clearly black. There's no need for it. It's distracting. Then there was requisite straight girlfriend, in this case Jason's cousin Ana, who feel free to randomly and inappropriately comment on people's sex lives. I've never been a fan of these friends in fiction or in RL. And did I mention that Jason's surname is Corleone. Yep. Jason Corleone.

I know it seems too much of a review to hang on a free short but ... that's where the chips fell. I did like that Jason and Jerome were manly men who were attracted to manly men: hairy, smelly, sweaty etc. This was clearly written by a man using men he knows and are attractive to him as templates. I wish the story had dialed down the drama. The bones for a good story were here.

[I've been going through shorts that have lived in back corners of my reader but have been in poor mood to review or even update my my GR feed so the read dates will be random.]

This story was really all over the place. It starts simple enough with Jerome (the dom) meeting Jason (the sub) who has come to help him in his ironworks shop. That lasts about one day before things start going crazy. From family feuds and killing attempts to fortune tellers and drug traffic to FBI agents lounging by the pool naked with their Glock near them. Add a couple of handfuls of one sided insta-love and BDSM and you have a HOT mess.

I am not a fan of story lines all over the place so this was not for me.

I really enjoyed this story and read it all on a long flight. I'm not much of a BDSM reader, but the gentle soul of Jerome, the grumpy Dom, kept me engaged. I wanted to see him get his HEA. I loved the strong sense of New Orleans and the psycho family plot line. This was a major undertaking- thanks to Max for writing it for the LHNB event.

For this book I actually had a bizzare reversal on my usual stance; for a lot of it I wished for more p0rn and less plot!

I rarely read bdsm and then only mild offerings, that could be why the dynamic didn't entirely work for me. The 'awake' sex wasn't extreme, there was nothing there to make me skip pages. But big rough dom Jerome who sounded so interesting often came across petulant; every other character appears to be manipulating him. Jason despite his great need to be subservient appeared to take over Jerome's life, and the 'sleeping' sex scenes where to my mind very clear non-con, it stopped any chance of me liking Jason.

The plot became convoluted. Jason says at one point 'You couldn't make it up, it's all so crazy.' hmmm.

I think there'll be more books. Reading this I felt I'd missed Sampson's book, he came across as more important than explained.

There were things that made me smile, Marie had character by the yellow bucket. Will, Ricky and their fashion amused me. No suprise the author is a chef as the true passion of this book is in the food, it made me crave dishes I've never tried. A big part of me liked it, fans of the genre will probably rate it higher. (The 'sleeping' sex knocks a star off)

I really liked the characters, as individuals. The dialogue was well-done too--Marie's in particular was entertaining and I truly enjoyed her. The first half of the story was strong and well-paced, with a logical progression, particularly with respect to the main characters. I liked the gentle, "we're still strangers" start-up to the BDSM and expect that there would be more complex play between them in a later story, since it was made very clear that it was the joy of the novelty that made the relatively tame play exciting to them.

Some of the secondary characters felt rushed through, as if those sections were written specifically to support the main characters' arc, without consideration of how they fit into the storyline as a whole.

The addition of multiple layers of complexity, plots and secondary and tertiary characters near the end detracted from the simple beauty of the relationship being revealed to us during this story. While it added excitement, I'm not sure that a more restrained treatment of the criminal plot line wouldn't have served the boys as well or better.

Well done, Max!

Funny and sweet with just enough crazy to make it spicy. One big, grumpy bear and a tenacious young man make the best of it in the decadent dishabille of New Orleans.

This story started promising, then it turned into a soap opera with all the typical stereotypes (only thing missing was the jealous ex-lover in the rapidly growing cast) and then it took another turn, unfortunately into ridiculous. In the end I was rolling my eyes and had to set my e-reader repeatedly down before progressing.
While the story got over the place, it felt like the author ran out of time in the end, focusing (finally?) again more on Jerome and Jason. But it left me wondering what happened to Daniel and Bart, what about shot Cameron (and Eric), what about the big bunch of money and property, what about Jason's father, the company Ana was working for, I also would have liked to learn what kind of relationship existed between Sampson and Jason... So many questions...
I never really came to like Jerome and I couldn't get what Jason saw in him (apart from the physical maybe), especially after only three days during which Jerome was a real prick to him. We also never really got an answer why Jason felt the need for a master and BDSM practice, which by the way, didn't feel good to me, but I'm very particular regarding BDSM.

Someone else said that they would have been happy to pay for this and I am in total agreement. Max HS taken a photo and given it life and a backstory and a HEA. I love it and I love the world and.... Just read it it's awesome.. I love his writing style it's raw whilst still polished, succinct without being brief and so very easy to read. I fell in love with the characters of Jerome and Jason Cameron Eric and Ana and Marie.. All my senses were engaged. Thank you Max it was truly wonderful storytelling.

Max has more out Hawk 'n' Harely being one of them. Check him out..

New Orleans! My stomping grounds! I've got to admit I looked up the complex on Dauphine to see what it looked like i real life. Also, google earthed Jerome's house and know exactly where that is, right between Bywater and Marigny. Yup. That location makes perfect sense.

I really enjoyed the Louisiana flavor. Both the environment and attitude were painted authentically for me. So much dialogue written in dialect slowed down my reading. But I got it. I could hear it well.

I'm now checking out some of your other writings.

Sadly, this wasn't for me. :(

I like the beginning with Jason arriving and learning in the shop and taking care of Jerome but it became too soap opera-y for me what with the shoot outs, Jason's father showing up and first being an asshole and suddenly everything is forgiven and forgotten and he's an awesome father, all these people being somehow related and so on and so on.

I also had a very hard time with the written dialect - I really don't like that.

OK, I did like Jerome and Jason - two very well depicted MCs. The D/s was a little 'lite' but I don't mind that. Had a little trouble picking up the accents: Marie was great; Ana was cute (and determined).

Honestly didn't mind the way the story developed regarding the drugs and trafficking etc; but was slightly "thrown" by Jason's dad's complete turn-around regarding his sexuality. Apart from that, a very good story!

LHNB story released 16.6.13
perhaps a gnats above 4 stars
I'd thought from the prompt and the description that this would be BDSM heavy story. There is some BDSM involved but the plot and characters are a lot more wide ranging. I really enjoyed this story (which also had a couple of strong female characters)

Good strong start, but I would have liked some of the narratives threads left more open ended. Sometimes too much neatly explained resolutions don't serve a story well.

But still engaging and fun. And hot, and a bit kinky.

Sweet, hot, well-written story, with likeable characters. It went a bit into Harlequin Romance territory there a couple times and kinda hurried up at the end but, other than that, an entertaining read.

2* for the story, 1* for being free.
This was an interesting read upto 60% or so, then it turned totally harebrained.
Can't say it better than Saphirablue and Mercedes.

I started reading without really looking at the page numbers – expecting a short story. And it began like one, too. Things progressed fast, surprises popped up early on. By the time I realized it was a full story I was hooked and needed to continue.

I like that Jason is not super young. Of course, Jerome is an older man, so the age gap must still be significant, but Jason is not the stereotypical “boy” and I appreciate how this relationship is portrayed – as balanced between two men in their full power. If anything, Jason has the upper hand.

I don’t feel entirely comfortable with everything, of course. Jason’s sneaky way of getting Jerome to have sex with him is more than just a little lacking in respect. Rape might be a good word to throw around, too. You just don’t do these things to someone unable to make a conscious decision. It’s irrelevant who is being penetrated.

The sex, well. It’s raunchy and dirty and as far removed from prettified as it can be without being revolting. I’m pretty sure it’ll hit the perfect spot for a lot of people and while it’s exactly not my cup of tea I can still appreciate that those scenes are good. As such, I’m also not into the vicious pain play present but as long as the participants enjoy it I can appreciate their pleasure.

Most remarkably, there’s no extraneous sex in this book. Every scene is relevant, every irrelevant one is skipped, and there really aren’t all that many overall.
Viewpoints are shifty, though. However, since they’re not too deep or emotion-laden, that’s not much of an issue.

It also turns into a bit of a farce towards the end when everyone and their dog start to turn up with more Shocking Revelations. XD I liked it! At the same time I stopped taking things seriously. Strong hints of soap opera, sensationalist talk show, burlesque even.
Now that I look back on it after finishing, it’s a strange switch from the serious and melancholy first half – to completely over-the-top, where even an attempt at murder is something to laugh at. Still, this is the fun kind of cliché-fest: breaking some, subverting some, relishing in others.

It’s a simple, ridiculous, funny, feel-happy story with harsh elements thrown in and some brutally dirty sex. And let’s not forget the evil, twisted villain and a surprisingly easily redeemable semi-villain.
I have no idea why and how but it was great fun to read. I guess it goes to show with good writing, good storytelling, and engaging characters, the rest falls by the wayside.

I really enjoyed Anything For Your Sir. Things I loved:
• Strong MC’s, both our Dom and Sub – At no point did Jerome just save Jason
• Both MC’s had a past and baggage
• Strong female characters who you liked. They actually added something to the story and they weren’t just there to be the token girl.
• The BDSM scene was just not being tied to a bed – I had never read another scene like it and I really enjoyed this one.

I really enjoyed how people treated and were treated by Jerome – he was as described, gruff and rough around the edges, but so obviously loved. He came across like a teddy bear in a cranky suit.

The story was fast paced with a nice amount of detail. I could have used a little more padding at the end, but at that point I was so in love with everything that it didn’t matter.

The only thing I had trouble with was the ‘accent’ for Marie. With no frame of reference for what it would sound like I had to pick through some of it on occasions.

This was a great book and I look forward to more from Max Vos.

Wow! The blurb/description really doesn't do this story justice. Yes, there is Jerome, who is one grumpy Dom (and man, does he have good reasons to be gruff), and there is Jason, a boy desperately looking for a Sir. But there is so much more to these two: some very sleazy family members of Jerome's, mysterious possibly fraudulent activity, drive-by shootings, arson, you name it, this book has got it.

But what I really liked was the wonderful characters. Jerome is a great guy with a heavy heart, and he has suffered long enough. Everyone except him sees that. Jason is a wonderful man who hates his job as a lawyer and wants nothing more than to live a much simpler life. When they find each other the sparks fly, but life keeps interfering. Luckily Jason isn't easily deterred!

If you're looking for a great read with action, humor, hot scenes between two gorgeous men, and quite a few twists and turns as old secrets are uncovered, then give this free novel a go.

I absolutely loved this story... I loved Jerome character, he's rough and gruff and moody as hell but somethings missing from his life...Maybe companionship?...sexy as hell Dom Jerome doesn't want love or another Sub he wants peace and quiet and some help in his workshop. I also loved Jason character, He's a sexy man who wants more from his life, he doesn't want what his family wants for him. He wants a Dom who cares for him and takes care of his needs...Jason is sent to help Jerome with more than just his workshop. When they meet in my opinion, temper's flare on Jerome's part and Lust is felt from Jason's....I loved the way Jerome is gruff with Jason but when Jason cooks for him or does something for him, his walls crumble down....Things in Jerome's life aren't what they seem but with Jason's help could he become the man he was before? can you love Jason as Jason Loves him? you'll have to read to find out but you will love this story as much as I did...

I have a few favorite books that I return to when I feel the need to curl up with an old favorite and this story has become one of them. I have read this story multiple times and always enjoy it. I'm not going to get into the plot as others can do that so much better than I can, I will say that I loved the characters and their relationships, both newly developing and long-standing. The story had all the elements I enjoy, some drama, suspense, humor, love, compassion and more. I laughed and yes, even shed tears on a few occasions. I love the relationships between this group of characters and I admit, I have a secret crush on Jerome - crabby though he may be. Oh, and did I mention that the sex scenes were pretty steamy and resulted in more than a few muttered, 'Wow!' from me. I fully expect to read this many more times and will enjoy it every time. I have already purchased additional Max Vos novels and look forward to enjoying them too!
