The greatest gift at Christmas is love. Love is all around you. It’s never too late.

I enjoyed this a lot more than I thought I would. I haphazardly added it only because it was a Christmas book and it has a high rating here on Goodreads. Also, my friend Cara wrote a wonderful review about it so I thought I'd give it a chance. When I cracked it open I was dismayed to see it was a Hallmark movie because I despise them. But this was unexpectedly different and I think I enjoyed it so much because of the "A Christmas Carol" vibes. The 1951 movie version with Allistar Sim is the best Christmas movie ever made...there I said it!

I loved that the romance wasn't central to the story. In fact, it's hardly there at all until the end. This is not your typical cheesy, schmaltzy Christmas story and that was a very festive surprise. The story has a sad background because our main character, Alexis lost both her parents on Christmas Eve twenty years ago. She now despises Christmas and anything that has to do with the holiday so she focuses solely on work. She isn't very nice to her employees or herself for that matter. Will visiting the ghosts of Christmas past, present and future heal Alexis's heart which has frozen over? You'll have to read the book to find out.

Do go and read Cara's review by clicking her name. It is much better than mine. Thank you Cara for bringing this book to my attention.

Every Day is Christmas is a new book coming out based on the movie that Karen Schaler wrote a few years ago by the same name. As with her other works, this is a heartwarming Christmas tale sure to bring a smile. But not at first. This is based on Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol. The Scrooge is Alexis Taylor who threw herself into her career twenty years ago when her parents died on Christmas Eve, forsaking love, friends, or anyone who could leave her. And she especially does not celebrate Christmas personally. She owns a very successful finance company and lacks nothing monetary. An interesting Christmas Eve visitor or two helps her put her life into perspective and helps her see where her future is heading. Lovely ending.

“You make time for the people who matter most.”

This retelling of Dickens’ classic, ‘A Christmas Carol,’ has all the feels, making it a perfect holiday read. Interestingly, this book came AFTER Schaler’s movie!

Upfront and honest: I dislike retellings. BUT this one won over my heart. I loved the characters and their development. In fact, I’d watch the movie after reading this book…something I rarely do. The cover of this book features the Christmas ornament showcased in the movie.

Alex Taylor is the perfect Scrooge; orphaned, workaholic, a loner, and commitment-phobic. She’s worked hard to make her company, Taylor Investments, one of the top financial firms in Atlanta. As everyone around her is gearing up their Christmas cheer, Alex finds ways to sidestep it while squashing her employees' reverie. Why? She couldn’t care less about Christmas! Gasp. In fact, “Merry Christmas” is not in her vocabulary. When she is visited by a ghost from her past, the experience transforms her and she begins to embrace the Christmas spirit, melting her frozen heart and allowing people to get close to her.

Despite knowing how it will all work out, the character development and love interest (aahhh, Justin) kept me turning pages. A little hesitant at first because I don’t care for retellings, this one softened my heart and I ended up loving this story about second chances, redemption, self-discovery and empowerment.

If you’re looking for an uplifting holiday read, this is it. There are recipes and exclusive photos from the movie included!

I was gifted this copy by HawkTale Publishing and NetGalley and was under no obligation to provide a review.

I received a free copy of, Every Day Is Christmas, by Karen Schaler, from the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Alexis is Scrooge in a modern retelling of A Christmas Carol. Orphaned in her early twenties, Alexis turned into Scrooge, she was all about work and making money. Alexis is lucky to have such dedicated staff, who didnt complain too much when she wants then to work Christmas, and no bonus this year. I liked this retelling of the classic, A Christmas Carol. I look forward to watching the movie this Christmas.

Everyday is Christmas is the latest release from Karen Schaler, arguably one of the Queens of Christmas. Her stories are Hallmark worthy, truly. In fact, most have been made into movies on the festive channel and this story is no different. This is a modern-day Christmas Carol retelling to the T.

In this Christmas story, we follow Alexis Taylor, who after a tragic accident years ago, lost both of her parents. In order to deal with the pain, she hardened her heart to Christmas and to love and has turned her sole focus on building her company and making money, the only thing she believes she can count on. With this mindset, she has alienated her employees and does not tolerate Christmas in any form, unless it serves as a marketing tool. Like the famous tale, on Christmas Eve, while working late into the night, she receives a visit from her deceased mother who takes her on a journey of her life, helping her see that life is not worth living without love and joy, even at the risk of losing both.

This story is a very quick, predictable read, but also charming in it’s simplicity. I found the mother a bit odd and immature at times, but overall, this was a sweet story with a feel-good conclusion.

"Every Day Is Christmas" by Karen Schaler is a heartwarming and heartfelt holiday do-over story that revolves around Alexis Taylor, a shrewd money manager who prides herself on being a workaholic and "humbugging" Christmas and love. For Alexis, the only holiday tradition is breaking up with her boyfriends right before Christmas, keeping her heart closed off.

However, everything changes for Alexis when she receives a holiday visit that turns her world upside down. Her past, present, and future collide, forcing her to confront her choices and the walls she has built around her heart. As she goes on a journey of self-discovery and transformation, Alexis learns that there are some things money can't buy, including the power of true love and the magic of Christmas.

Inspired by Karen Schaler's beloved Lifetime Christmas movie "Every Day Is Christmas" and the classic "A Christmas Carol" by Charles Dickens, this novel is a heartwarming tale of redemption, family, and second chances. The story embraces the spirit of Christmas, emphasizing the importance of love, hope, and the belief in miracles.

Karen Schaler's signature warmth and humor shine through in her writing, making the characters relatable and endearing. Readers will find themselves immersed in the festive ambiance and touched by the messages of empowerment and transformation.

The inclusion of bonus content, such as exclusive movie photos, Christmas recipes, and holiday activities, adds an extra layer of enjoyment to the book, making it a delightful experience for readers seeking a heartwarming holiday romance.

"Every Day Is Christmas" celebrates the magic of the holiday season and the power of love to change lives. It is a perfect choice for fans of Christmas romances, and anyone looking for a feel-good story filled with hope, love, and the joy of Christmas miracles.

Every time Karen Schaler announces a new Christmas book, it automatically becomes one of my most anticipated releases of the year! I’ve read all of her books and enjoyed them very much. They are always filled with Christmas spirit and Christmas cheer. This one was no different. It was the perfect book to read on Christmas Eve since it is a retelling of A Christmas Carol and I always enjoy reimaginings of that classic story. The story was fairly short, but there was a lot of character development in Alexis. I also liked that the ghosts were her parents which gave the story a more personal touch. As always, there were a ton of Christmas elements which I loved. This was such a poignant story and I can’t wait to see what Karen Schaler will release next!

3.5 rounded up. Thank you NetGalley for my ARC. This book was basically a modern retelling of a Christmas carol. I really enjoyed the story and the characters in it but I tend to prefer Christmas stories that don't use the Christmas carol plot line as I feel it's over done at times. If you enjoy spins on a Christmas carol this is the book for you! It's fun, cute and has a lot of Christmas elements sprinkled throughout. I want the gingerbread cinnamon pancake recipe sooo bad cause they sounded delicious!! The ending was cute but I wish it had an epilogue at the end to give me a little more

A lovely Christmas read. A brilliant twist on a Christmas classic.

Alexis has a very heartbreaking back story, and I loved how her ‘ghosts’ were her parents and they still led from their hearts and showed her love and understanding. Sometimes I think if we all had the chance to step outside ourselves and view situations and people we might make better and more considerate decisions.

A very easy read that filled me with the Christmas spirit.

I wanted to read this book as I saw that the author was the writer of ‘A Christmas Prince’ on Netflix and I love that film series! Whilst this book was a quick and easy ready, it wasn’t quite the heartwarmer I was expecting.

Every Day Is Christmas is a modern take on A Christmas Carol. Alexis is a high flying corporate genius, the only thing she loves is money, and she is absolutely vile to her co-workers. It’s Christmas Eve and she has just refused to give her staff their annual bonuses and she is forcing them to come back into work on Christmas Day or else they’ll be fired. That is until she is confronted by two figures from the past that evening - her parents who died twenty years ago. As her parents guide her through her past, present and future - Alexis starts to realise just what kind of person she has become. Can she change her ways to avoid a future of loneliness?

To me, it just felt like Alexis had a complete personality transplant and I didn’t find it a believable transformation. I understand that the death of her parents at Christmastime was the catalyst for becoming the way she is, but it just seemed like a very dramatic change, and then the change after the visit from her parents also just seemed like too much. I also didn’t one hundred percent buy into the Alexis and Justin romance - considering that they had shared zero aspects of their personal lives with one another until that moment, I don’t know how they could know that they were ‘in love’, given that they don’t actually know each other!

Obviously the Scrooge aspect is always a winner, but I think it needs to be done a little bit better than this to really resonate. But like I said, a quick and easy ready, with all the ghosts of Christmas past, present and future vibes!

I’ve read and enjoyed Karen Schaler’s previous holiday novels, and this new book, based on the script she wrote for the Lifetime movie, was a wonderful experience.

Inspired by the timeless masterpiece, Dickens’s A Christmas Carol, “Every Day is Christmas” offers a rollercoaster of emotions!

At first, Alexis Taylor comes across as the worst boss one could get. A combination of Scrooge and the Grinch who’s tone deaf to her employee’s aspirations for a healthy work-life balance. Considering how far the lead character has to go to redeem herself, I was seriously wondering how Schaler’s would pull off a credible character development and actually make me appreciate this really off-putting character. And she did not disappoint! I thoroughly enjoyed this festive, feel-good read about second chances.

Alexis’s journey to realizing the errors of her ways and bettering herself was a heartwarming tale. The whole background story about her parents was so poignant. In the end, everything ties well together, the story is told with an entertaining, consistent pace. I also loved how the author solved the Marc/Justin situation. The ending was romantic and satisfying, giving all the cozy vibes.

Boasting a beautiful cover, Every Day is Christmas is an uplifting must-read for the holiday season!

Karen Schaler delivers an early Christmas treat in the form of her latest novel, Every Day Is Christmas. A modern, re-imagined take on Dickens' classic A Christmas Carol, this one spreads joy from beginning to end.

Alexis has never once celebrated Christmas in the years since her parents were tragically taken from her in an accident during the festive season. Vowing to work hard and build a successful life for herself in spite of being alone, Alexis builds a financial empire that rivals the very best. This modern day Scrooge will soon realize, though, that all the riches in the world mean nothing if you don't have anyone to share them with.

I love Karen Schaler's books, and always look forward to sinking into one as an early holiday treat. Once again, this latest is as cosy as being wrapped in a cashmere blanket while nibbling on a shortbread cookie. And I am absolutely going to add crushed candy cane to my favourite recipe!

Many thanks to NetGalley for an ARC of this title.

P.S A great song to listen to in the last few chapters is “A Little Bit of Christmas” by Jim Brickman featuring Kris Allen. It just fit so well with Alexis’ journey

Enjoyed the book tremendously. Alexis reminds me of someone in our family; a classic workaholic. The meetings of past, present, and future is something I wish we all could do. The world would be a happier place. She needed a boot in the pants and the ghosts provided that. Christmas is a time for family and Alexis with help from Dickens has one now. I’m glad I started my Christmas reading with this.

A very unique and clever take on the Charles Dickens classic "A Christmas Carol". The protagonist, Alexis, is a mean Scrooge that her employees fear and despise. However one magical Christmas Eve, Alexis is reunited with her parents who have been deceased for 20 years. We readers are treated to the great side of Alexis that had been bottled up since her parent's tragic death 20 Christmas' past. Great read.

In this charming retelling of "A Christmas Carol", Alexis Taylor hasn't celebrated Christmas since her parents passed away on Christmas Eve 20 years ago. She didn't want to risk losing anyone again so she became obsessed with work and making money. Because of that her company, Taylor Investments, is a leading financial firm in Atlanta.

But Alexis took things too far with her employees on Christmas Eve after they did not make their numbers and insisted everyone had to work on Christmas Day. When she got home, Alexis kept wondering why they weren't willing to make sacrifices to make their numbers and couldn't understand why work wasn't more important to them. She fell asleep then woke to see a familiar face who came to help her see what's truly important.

Will her journey into the past, present and future be eye-opening for Alexis? Will her heart swell with Christmas spirit after all these years? Let "Every Day Is Christmas" be your first holiday read to make your heart swell as we enter the holiday season.

Thank you NetGalley and HawkTale Publishing for this early Christmas present. I loved it and highly recommend it!

Thank you NetGalley and Hawktale Publishing for the opportunity to read "Every Day Is Christmas" in exchange for my honest review.

As always Ms. Schaler has written a heartwarming Christmas story, that will surely kick off the holiday season for every reader. This story is a brilliantly reimagined take on "A Christmas Carol". Set in Atlanta we meet Alexis Taylor who has one true love in life and that is money. She owns an entire office block, runs her own financial firm. Her favourite word is "fine", no matter what people ask her, the answer is always fine - mostly to avoid a conversation. She gives off a very Scrooge-like vibe from the very beginning of the story. She gives no thought to her employees and their Christmas plans when she makes them work late on Christmas Eve. If they don't show up to work on Christmas Day they will lose their jobs. She is positively livid when she catches them exchanging Secret Santa gifts with each other. She cancels everyone's Christmas bonuses because she feels no one earned them this year.

She feels it is okay to phone people during their Christmas Eve dinners because they will understand that work comes first. Midnight on Christmas Eve she gets frustrated when none of the fund managers that she's been emailing and texting get back to her. She feels that everyone should be like her and have no time for Christmas. We learn that Alexis wasn't always like this. She used to love Christmas but after she lost her parents in a car accident she closed herself off from the holiday that they all loved and more importantly she closed herself off from love.

Her driver Justin works very hard to support his family but to him family always comes first. He hopes that one day Alexis will realize this. He takes her to see Christmas lights on a very special street but Alexis barely notices them.

She hears a Christmas carol ring-tone but she would never have that as her ring-tone...then she sees her mom sitting on the foot of her bed in a red wool coat - the very one that she was wearing in a photo that mysteriously appeared at Alexis' office. Her mom died 20 years ago how can she be there? Then the story takes on the Christmas past, present and future - with first her mom and then her dad guiding Alexis to see the error in her ways. How she has pushed good people out of her life. How is is afraid to love because if she opens herself up to love, she also opens herself up to be hurt.

The funny parts of the book are where where mom (Lydia) has to keep reminding her that the people in her past, present and future that they are visiting cannot see or hear her even though she insists on yelling to them. She sees that her actions have consequences in the lives of other people. She's shocked that she will one day be sick and alone because she has no one in her life that loves her. She learns that she can have a full bank account but an empty life. As in the original story, Alexis finds that there is still time to change the future by changing herself in the present.

This was a fantastic read and I was just sorry to come to the last page. The photos in the book were a lovely touch, it was nice to see the "homes" that are featured in the story. The link to the Christmas Camp Guide is a brilliant feature. To see all the other heart-warming Christmas stories written by Ms. Schaler, the recipes, extra photos, decorating tips and crafts are just such a thoughtful extra touch to this wonderful book. For me it's not the Christmas season without a book from Ms. Schaler! I'd truly love to give more than 5 stars!!

Thank you to Hawktale Publishing and Karen Schaler for letting me have an arc copy of Every Day is Christmas to review. A retelling of A Christmas Carol with the twist of Scrooge being recast as a high-powered modern businesswoman, whose melancholy past has made her bury her heart under her protective armour, ambition, and material wealth. But at the price of disconnecting herself from letting others into her life and sharing her heart. Work seems to be the only thing, Alexis lets in her life.

The plot follows the traditional redemptive, transformational arc as A Christmas Carol with some creative and quirky modern seasonal embellishments. It’s a tender, achingly sweet read and perfect if you love a wholesome Hallmark movie to snuggle into with a cozy blanket. The pacing doesn’t feel rushed given the story happens over two days. The comical twists dotted through the story add a frosting of humour on top of some very deep emotional themes behind the plot.
The casting of the ghosts of past, present, and future for Alexis was perfect and poignant – a gift any of us would love to have at Christmas to share a moment with those we have lost. I thought it brought an emotional touch to the story than having three strangers play these parts. It re-enforces the pain and loss that she’s buried and through love, she comes to open up again to give others a chance.

Alexis’s character is very likable and relatable. She wrote so that you don’t pity her and not appear like an evil, money-grabber but a lost soul who’s stumbled on the wrong path due to a terrible incident that cost her everything in her past. Her motives behind her actions are in character and all have a purpose that is clear to the reader. The love interest in this story Justin, doesn’t get much screen time, but he’s kind, considerate, and loveable. Textbook definition of a perfect romantic interest that would appeal to the romantic in all of us.

Everything was a bit too cleanly wrapped up for me, I would have liked a little bit more time between Justin and Alexis. Especially to have been the fly on the wall about their meeting in the past. A nice festive read to enjoy once a year and to get lost in the Christmas spirit.

I enjoy a good, well written Christmas story and this one checks all of the boxes! I was captivated by this book and finished it way too quickly. And I have to admit that I was surprised by my reaction. I have read the novelizations of several movies and was seriously unimpressed. I have also encountered some books that hoped to recapture the aura of Charles Dickens’s classic “A Christmas Carol”, a book I have read every year for many, many years. I was skeptical of this attempt at overcoming either of these two obstacles. It did both and did them exceptionally well.

Karen Schaler wrote the script for the 2018 Lifetime Christmas movie of the same name. Because of that connection she wrote a very sensitive, fleshed out novel that never felt as though it were the movie script in novel form.

The book focuses on an extremely successful money manager named Alexis. Because she lost both parents on Christmas Eve while she was in her first semesters in college, a deep level of trauma followed her throughout her life. It also powered her drive toward success. Yet even as she amassed a huge fortune and built a magnificently successful company her social live was virtually nonexistent. Her predictable pattern was to breakup with any dating partners on or prior to Christmas Eve each year. Her employees were not really human beings to her, but merely cogs in her corporate machine.

Then came “that” Christmas Eve! The Jacob Marley character in this book, as well as the ghosts of Christmas Past and Present was her deceased mother, Lydia. The ghost of Christmas yet to come was not nearly as frightening as the one Dickens provided, but it worked just as well.

The only problem I had with the book (minor as it was) happened at the end of the book—after the ghosts had worked their magic. Alexis possessed certain objects and held knowledge that the reader had no way to know (or believe) how they came to her. That in no way changed my enjoyment of this extremely well-written book. I highly recommend it and am grateful for the opportunity to have read it.

4.5 stars! Thank you @tlcbooktours and @traveltherapy for a copy of Every Day is Christmas! This book is interesting because it was written AFTER the movie was made (the author was the screenwriter for the movie on Lifetime and put it into book form.) I loved how it’s a recreation of the classic A Christmas Carol. It’s Christmas Eve and Alexis Taylor is a Scrooge, a successful money hungry, no nonsense business women who is a workaholic with no time for love. She worked hard to get where she is in a male driven world. She dislikes Christmas since she lost her parents on Christmas Eve years earlier. She is very rude to her employees especially during the holidays. She was dating a fellow workaholic named Marc, but even he wasn’t as obsessed with his job as she was. She was constantly missing vacations with him for work. In fact she breaks up with all of her boyfriends every year right on or before Christmas Eve. She even got so angry at her employees she told them they had to come in at 7am on Christmas! I was so angry at her the whole beginning of the book!

There is also Justin, her long time driver. Justin has worked faithfully for her for years and over the years, even though she is how she is, has a sweet spot for her. The chapters focused on him actually made me like Alexis more by seeing her through his eyes. I really enjoyed the Christmas Carol aspect showing her past - it really helped you see why she is how she is today. It made me sad to see how drastic she changed when her parents died on Christmas Eve, but what an amazing thing to be able to get a second chance. I wish things that happened for her in the book could happen in real life. I really connected with her since she’s an only child like I am, and was so close to her parents and forever afraid of losing them/those she loves.

This was a predictable but very sweet book and I really enjoyed it! I’m interested in watching the movie too. I love the overall message that love should always trump anything else and to believe in the magic of Christmas.

Alexis Taylor who loved her work all the time, owner of Taylor Investments, the top financial firm in the country had everything but is lonely and certainly stressed around the Christmas holidays. She had given up falling in love a long time ago, all her boyfriends she dated had a relationship with her as more of a business partnership. She always put work first. When it's Christmas Eve, it's only Alexis who is working. She had employees working which made her proud. Instead of bringing excitement and the holiday feel to her office as a boss, she was grieving her parents and totally disconnected from the lights and decorations that brought magical moments. As she started to hallucinate, she had to be in charge of her emotions. Because of her work, she never celebrated Christmas.

That's when Justin drives her around as her employee wants to reveal his feelings for her. Her driver, Justin admired Alexis's strength, dedication, and fearlessness. You can give your whole life to your career and sacrifice on a daily basis therefore it was a price that Alexi paid that this story brings to a reader's attention. Instead of accepting the present moment everything she talked about brought stress in her. Everything Alexi did was connected to her career. In the end, Justin turns out to be a Trustworthy person she can confide about her frustrations with work and relationships even though losing her parents brings pain and memories. The last thing she wanted was to love someone truly again and risk losing them like she had lost her parents. Was Alexi better off lonely? Can the wonderful festive season spark her to return to the Christmas spirit that she kindled 20 years ago during her childhood with her mom and dad whom she missed dearly?

With touches of humor, laughs and emotions, the author has brought the Christmas spirit to me. Highly recommend reading at this season of Christmas. Thanks to NetGalley and Hawktale Publishing for a digital complimentary copy for my honest review.
