I’ve read and enjoyed most of Ms. Eve’s books/series, and I think this book duo is, so far, the weakest. The first book was iffy but with a lot of promise, but this story just didn’t work for me. SO many words, SO little happening. SO much telling, SO little showing.
There is literally only one actual conflict in the entire book - the battle to defeat the evil mother. And, that only happens - in an extremely surface way - at the very end. So what goes on throughout the rest of the story? Nothing much, really. Mainly Morgan and Zahak (yep, no more Dragar in the romantic picture, thank heavens) rhapsodizing poetically over each other. Seriously, the vast majority of the book is made up of explaining how amazing, wonderful, loving, perfect, strong, hot, sensitive, virile………… (you get the picture) each is to the other. Paragraphs…. Nay, pages of it. If you disbelieve, remember me when you are rolling your eyes and wondering if you ought to be scrolling social media for something more interesting to do - don’t say I didn’t warn ya.
Honestly, I can’t even think of anything else to comment on. There wasn’t anything else. Well, maybe a wee little kinda skirmish in the middle that was over in a couple of pages. Otherwise, from the very beginning up until the very end of the book, they were just puddling around preparing for the big moment with mom (and swooning over each other).
It does look like the series will continue with the brothers, however, and weirdly enough, I actually think that could be interesting, as they each have to come to earth to find their mate. So, in spite of all, and in remembrance of the author’s previous books that have a similar theme, I will probably give them a try.
This was a boring ender to this duet. There wasn’t anything bad about the story; its delivery was just boring, a lot of telling verses showing. I never felt connected to their relationship or to the characters. I wouldn’t read the spin off either.
Welp the author stopped writing about the fmc’s need to pee constantly so congrats if you made it past that part. 😂I almost did not. There was way too much telling in this book. Omg. We know. He is virile. And you need to pee. 🤦🏻♀️Who alpha’d this book?
But fr, I did enjoy this second book overall and do recommend it for my fantasy dragon fae loving fellow readers. You have to suspend your standards in a way. I skimmed quite a bit while the fmc was telling and thinking and peeing.
But Let me be clear here.
This is not a romance book.
But we do get a HEA for the MF couple and a very good explanation of how it all got fucked up and was starting to look like a MFM. Or was. Whatever.
As a reminder. Women’s Fiction always ends with what is best for the woman. In this situation her fated mate ended up being the best option for her and not the one she thought might be.
Just bc it is fantasy doesn’t mean an author gets to decide what romance standards are. 🤦🏻♀️
They are set in stone for a reason. Romance readers find deep comfort in that what we are reading, no matter how bad it gets for the main love interests, they will always end up together.
Romance=a HEA for all involved love interests. Could be MF. MMF. FF. FFF. MMMMMMMMMM. Whatever. You get the point. THEY ALL END UP TOGETHER IN A ROMANCE.
Just because the author explained the reason why the MFM love triangle happened by mistake, doesn’t make it less of a WF book NOR does it make this a romance book. Make sense?
AND it doesn’t make it ok to lie to readers. Or mislead us.
This author markets this book as romance but it has a love triangle trope which slots it right tf out of the romance genre and into WF. Gah. UGH.
I avoid those tropes and had I known what tf was going to happen I wouldn’t have read the first book. 🤷🏻♀️And when asked the author stated it was MF only. And yet. We see how she marketed her book. To be deceptive to readers is disgusting.
Bc I have generally REALLY liked this author’s books, I decided to finish this duet. And I did like reading both books. Otherwise there would not be four stars up there shining in your eyeballs.
But I am deeply disappointed she has chosen to mismarket her book for the sake of making more money. I mean, on one hand I get it but on the other hand. I don’t.
I went ahead and finished this duet despite being recently burned by the fecking crock flock of feathers duet shit I read which was a fucking mess and also marketed as a romance but WAS NOT. 🙄😡
People. My trust level is at an all time low rn with authors. 😭😭😭😭😭😭W. T. F.
Great books can sell well and not be falsely marketed as romance.
I gotta say. This is another author who has broken sacred trust and deeply disappointed me with the way she marketed these books. I am not sure I will ever shake this.

This one was slightly better plot wise but somehow worse than the last one? The switch up in romantic interests with no buildup felt kinda insta lovey which was a shame because it could have been so good.
Okay, so after the first book - which confused me to no end - I'm glad of the direction this took.
Lots of my previous questions got answered. Even though I'm still not a fan of the whole fertility festival thing in the first book, I definitely get the meaning behind it now.
But the fact that we had to read about our fmc doing the deed with someone else than the mmc doesn't sit completely right with me...
I was also not quite the fan how "slow" Morgan was sometimes about fae/shifter/mate stuff. In the first book she was more in tune with fantasy books and the lore/mythology of those beings. Why did it take her so long to figure out the importance of their mother in the battle? But at least she did find out in the end. And that's a thing I really like about fantasy in general; the seemingly weak humans always save the day.
Can their please be a novel on how the other 3 brothers - or 4 if Emmen changes his mind - find their human mates? And a baby dragon shifter would be incredibly cute too tbh. Like, I'd love to see a little more about their new life closer together yk.
After a long time I picked up a Series written by Jaymine Eve. I loved all the books I read from this author. I enjoyed this Duology very much, I binged it.
Morgan is working at a Library. But she doesn't know that the library belong to a Fallen Fae God. One of her books goes missing and she accidentally ends up finding out that there are supernaturals. From there things get pretty busy while Morgan tries to adjust.
I liked the pace of the story and that it were only two books. Jaymin didn't drag the story out. I had a good time reading and listening to both books.
I didn’t really enjoy this second book. I’m not 100% sure why either. It didn’t pull me in. I don’t like how we make Drager the bad guy and he did so wrong. When almost every book the Alpha ahole is what we want. She could have easily ended up with both and it would have been great. But we start out in this book putting him down and saying he is in the wrong. We know nothing of Zahak coming into this. But he is automatically made the Main male for the book. I feel it was really 2 book series and we didn’t get to finish the 1st series and given the end to another.
This was a really bad book. I kept double checking the author 's name.. I skipped to the last chapter to see that it actually ends somewhere. Not sure why it has the reverse harem tag. Boring. Bad writing.
The first book was a 5 🌟for me despite the shoehorning into an academy setting two thirds of the way through (which I actually hated - if she’s a grown adult let’s not send her back to school for tenuous training and bullying). I like Z. But it was suddenly full on, I didn’t care about mother or the war or Mika or even the brothers actually. Best character was Aria. With Leo a strong second. I sad.
I didn’t know that ‘touch her and die’ vibes could be soo eye-roll worthy… *sighs in disappointment*
I was eagerly anticipating this book, as I loved the first book. I had high hopes for an angsty love triangle but it all just fell flat.
The relationship progression with Zahak felt forced. We were told and not shown when it came to their connection.- I needed slow burn romantic progression and all of those angsty heated looks for me to forget about all of that wasted groundwork that was laid down for Drager in the first book! The whole relationship building just felt lazy. It was insta-lovey and nauseatingly dull. I skipped most of the sex scenes. I was bored. It was cliche.
I didn’t love how Drager was made into the Tamlin (IYKYK) of the series. Drager could’ve easily been a worthy rival if only the pacing was different and more work was put into creating more chemistry between Zahak and Morgan.
I was very close to DNF’ing but I pushed on through. I probably shouldn’t have bothered… The final battle scene was boring. I basically skimmed the last 20% of the book. *Le sigh*
This can't be the final book in this world. It's definitely the final book for our BA FMC! But what about the others hunt for mates?? A baby(s) for our FMC? The disease running through the world... What happened to all of the FMC apartment on Earth with ALL of her things in it?
I Need More!
Oh, and I enjoyed Tamlins...er Dragars redemption arc! I also love Lexie, Astra and Leo!

TITLE - Crimson Skies AUTHOR - Jaymin Eve TYPE - Duet; #2 of 2 in 'Fallen Fae Gods" POV - 1st Person - Multiple GENRE - Urban fantasy, Romance READ DATES - 3/18/2024 to 3/19/2024
SUMMARY - A bookworm human woman, Morgan, is brought to the fae world of Risest by the fallen dragon god, Drager, to help them discover who is infiltrating their lands.
INITIAL REACTION - Well, this book really redeemed the duet if I'm being honest. I was really stupefied because it was labeled as a reverse harem series. It. Is. Not. That's fine and all and I'm beyond happy with Morgan and Zahak but it left me super confused and frustrated throughout the first book as Drager was NOT written affectionately. Thankfully, the author allowed him to grow and redeem himself a bit in this one and it all worked well together. I'm hoping that this series intends to continue with the other brothers. The epilogue kind of hinted at it was there wasn't any end notes from the author to confirm. Fingers crossed because I'd be willing to come back to this world for the others.
“La moyar,” he returned. “You are the greatest gift in my life, and I will cherish you for eternity. You will never want or need for anything, and I will destroy any threat that comes your way.”
Can we talk about how freaking hot and perfect Zahak is? 🤤🥵😍
You are not prepared for his chapters POV, my ovaries exploded and I got pregnant just by reading him 🫠🤰🏻😂
But seriously, he’s HAF and Morgan, yaaasss girl, so freaking bad***... I love how strong, resilent and caring she is, Zahak's perfect mate! 🥰
This perfect finale is an angsty and wild ride, my emotions were all over the place, but I enjoyed and loved every minute! 😍
Now I NEED the rest of The Fallen love stories, I need to see them fall hard and how their amazing mates will make them work for it, mainly Drager 😂
Jaymin, as usual, you wrote a brilliant, unputdownable and must read series, that will forever stay with me! ❤️
I find books like this one and the one before it particularly frustrating. The world and the characters are engaging, but the writing is so bad that it ruins it for me. First person is difficult to pull off without making the main character seem immature, and that was definitely the case here. On top of that, there was a lot of "telling not showing." Sometimes, you have to trust your readers to come to their own conclusions without spelling everything out. For example, the FMC's backstory with her narcissistic mother. She brought it up a lot, but the emotions just weren't there for me. It wasn't really relevant to the story, and it felt like it was just added so the FMC would have more of a personality than just liking books. Also, bringing up that she likes reading every other page is just annoying and makes her feel like a self-insert. All in all, not worth the hype.
This picks up exactly where book one left off. We finally get answers for who is endgame and a confirmed MF romance. And though this story arc is tied up, it is left suggestive to at least four others having their own book. (I would say five, but I have an inkling two of those character would have the same story). There’s a lot of realisations and character growth for Morgan in here, and plenty of action alongside. There are some big questions answered, but again, enough left open for future exploration without feeling like there’s giant gaps.
I am not sure why but I didn't enjoy this second book as much as the first. I was excited to finally read it but was thrown off by the not so love triangle and what felt like a whole lot of Morgan's repetitive self-talk. It was a bit difficult for me to finish the book...unfortunately for me this second book felt different and just didn't do it for me.
The second half of Morgan’s story is here! And if you were hoping for a Morgan/Zahak pairing for Crimson Skies—then you better get freaking excited!!
This book picks up right where Gikded Wings left off—Morgan and Zahak are stuck in the trenches of the Isle of Denille, home of the shadow creatures. However, Zahak and Morgan soon find that the shadow creatures have been infected and are now scary enough to fuel their nightmares.
The infection seems to be spreading and they need to find a way out without getting killed, then figure out how to save his brothers, AND THEN figure out how to wage a war against their own mother.
What’s a family reunion without a little drama, right? 😅😂
Here’s what you can expect: 🐉 Dragon shifter romance ✨ Fated/Bonded mates 🐉 Fantasy world-building ✨ Battle scenes 🐉 Touch her and 🔪 vibes
I love Jaymin’s style of romantasy because it’s light, fun, focuses on found family/girl power vibes, and still manages to have all the other classic fantasy hallmarks. Go for the DL!
Errrr not my favorite…in fact my least favorite so far this year…it dragged…the last 100 pages were basically torture and the plot sucked. Been there, read it a hundred times. No spice, no good protagonist conflict, simple boy meets girl, boy falls in love, they fight together to save the day, and surprise they win! Oh wait…not a surprise, really fucking obvious and predictable. Like I read the first one after Fourth Wing because I was specifically looking for dragons and this falls wayyy short of those books. This lacks the complex character dynamic and conflict between characters especially the protagonist’s that Fourth Wing has and it shows. Jaymin has good ideas…but her execution lacks flare and detail. A good book has the obvious conflict but also has the more subtle existential conflict…Jaymin lacks the existential part of characters going through shit and growing and changing to deal with it. Morgan sure as hell is t a Violet Sorrengail…she doesn’t even come close.
I'm just not a fan of this author's style I guess. It all seems so choppy and not easily flowed. Character building is almost nonexistent. Relationship building? Maybe one chapter. It was just all too odd.
Story had potential and I made it through the end so I could figure out what the author was trying to build. Ending was predictabl.
Thought that this had a very interesting concept. I liked the 1st book and was intrigued on knowing how the story ended. But I was very disappointed in the writing. The story concept was fine but the overall telling/writing was lacking. There was a lot of nothing happening, and a lot of telling the readers what happened rather than showing.
