Rose Hill #2

Wild Eyes

Rate this book
A rugged mountain town seemed like the perfect escape from a life in shambles. But on day one I ran full tilt into the world’s hottest single dad and now all my plans are ruined.

As a chart-topping country singer with a recent streak of bad press it’s hard to find any peace. But I find it in Rose Hill. With a little boy and a little girl who steal my heart just as thoroughly as their dad.

Weston Belmont.

The man is a shameless flirt. He oozes confidence and masculinity in a way that’s downright distracting. And in bed? He’s addictive.

Everything with him is wild and impulsive and I’m desperate to regain some control.

But no one has supported me like West does. And no one has ever made me feel as loved as he does either.

So, while my brain says settling down with a small-town horse trainer is impossible… my heart says I’m right where I belong.

Still, my life as a celebrity haunts me. It has the power to pull us apart.

I can see in his eyes that wants me to stay. And I want that too.

But I know better than anyone that we don’t always get what we want.

I haven’t read this yet obviously since the synopsis isn’t even posted.

But I noticed someone gave it a 1 star and when I reported it to Goodreads they said it was fine. So yes I’m being petty but people shouldn’t be able to rate books that don’t even have a synopsis 🥴😒

“We’re a love song, West. Tragic and true all at once.”

Elsie Silver is healing all my daddy issues with these beautiful and comforting single dad romances. I don't need therapy I just need a single dad like Weston Belmont with two most adorable and incredible kids in the world.

Wild Eyes is another amazing, emotional and beautiful story by Elsie Silver and it's no wonder that I devour this book and loved it. Elsie is my favourite author, her writing is a balm to my heart, her fictional small towns are my comfort place, her characters soothes me, her beautiful and alluring love stories brings me so much joy, warmth and hope. Wild Eyes is a story that evoked quite a spectrum of emotions inside my heart. From feeling heartbreaks and rage on Skylar's behalf to feeling emotions like warmth, nostalgia and adoration by watching her be a part of Weston's family. It was everything and so much more.

➸ Weston Belmont is the definition of Dad. I am adding him to my 'daddies I'd love to smash' list because why not? He is a perfect gentleman and the best dad. West is brimming with love and hope and I love his optimistic and wild approach to life. My heart healed a little after seeing him raising his kids with so much love, devotion and admiration. I loved every moment of him and Ollie and Emmy together. West is the happy guy who seems nice and easy but he hides his insecurities and abandonment issues behind his cheerful persona. It was good to see how he shared his inner worries and vulnerability with Skylar because he knew she understood him without any judgment. West a man who loves hard and wholeheartedly is now one of my favourite man written by Elsie.

“Breathing is overrated. I’d rather be drowning in you.”

➸ Skylar Stone just wanted an escape from her stiffling and crazy starlet life. Her desperation and broken trust led her to Rose Hill and to West and his family. She was tired of living a fake life as starlet Skylar and she wanted to explore herself as a human and an artist and find joy in making music just for herself. It was difficult for me to connect with Skylar which is never a issue when it comes to female protagonists written by Elsie. But Skylar wormed her way in my heart with her unwavering commitment and patience. It was comforting to see her take control of her life and career and finally be the Skylar Stone she wanted and deserved to be. Her character development and healing is two of major plot of Wild Eyes and it was done steadily and exceptionally.

“He’ll never know, but in that moment, he healed me. Just a little bit.”

: ̗̀➛ Skylar and Weston gives those 'meant for each other' vibes. The one where they find their right person at the right moment of time. Their first meet-cute was hilarious. They shared an undeniable bond that cannot be quashed just by anything. Their love story is delightful and I loved how Elsie crafted their relationship from friends to lovers arc with such delicacy and patience. The slow-burn was the perfect slow-burn with palpable and burning sexual tension between West and Skylar. The endearing simplicity of their friendship and small family moments together with kids breathed life in their love story. I loved how they shared their vulnerabe moments together with each other, how they opened up to each other despite them having trust issues. West was there for Skylar every moment, he soothes her, helped her heal and find comfort in life she was building for herself. He was her companion, her friend, her lover, her home in just one person. Their love is once in a lifetime and forever kind of love.

“I don’t know how it happened so quickly, so out of the blue, but Skylar feels integral to me. It’s inexplicable— cellular.
All I know is that she and I were meant to meet on that road.”

“No, fancy face. Those”— he points at my face, finger flicking from side to side—“ are wild eyes. The eyes of a woman who just chose fight over flight. Don’t smother that. Keep ‘em and you’ll come out on top. Trust me.”

I absolutely adore every moment West, his kids and Skylar spent together. It was heartwarming and beautiful to see her find her way in their hearts and home. Skylar shared a special bond with Emmy and Ollie and it was an integral part of her character development. Their sweet little found family is everything in this book.

Wild Eyes is magical and lovely and Rose Hill is a breathtaking and beautiful place to live in. I can't wait to see who other single dads Elsie is gonna write for us hopeless and daddy starved romantics. Also I do love colour orange after reading this 🍊🧡 and it's the perfect one for West and Skylar's hopeful story. Will never doubt Elsie and her creativity again ever in my life as long as she keeps on writing daddies like Weston Belmont.

“We’re a love song, West. Tragic and true all at once.”

one thing is certain - Elise Silver's novels have a knack for embarking me in a labyrinth of emotions. with each turn of the page, I'm enveloped by a masterful lasso of feelings, ranging from the warmth of laughter to the depths of sorrow, and passing through the turbulence of rage and the euphoria of swooning. 'Wild Eyes' was no exception to this rule, it was beautifully emotional.

Skylar and West were written for each other in an undeniable manner, and i absolutely adored them as couple and fell in love with them as individuals. their meeting was a serendipitous moment, as Skylar was meandering through the wreckage of her life, her trust shattered by the people closest to her. in a world where strangers were her only confidants, West stepped into the spotlight, unaware of the profound impact he would have on her healing journey. by being kind, genuine, and committed to knowing Skylar beyond the glamour of her celebrity status, West helped her find solace in a way that breathed life into their love – a once-in-a-lifetime kind of love.

the novel deliciously harmonized the single dad trope with an endearing and thoughtful portrayal of children, each one distinct yet sharing a special bond that converged into a sweet found family storyline. the narrative expertly crafted the friends-to-lovers arc, tantalising it with a slow-burn romance that was both agonising and beautiful. set against the picturesque backdrop of a Canadian country town, this story unfolded like a charming postcard. overall, this was a delightful romance that wove together themes of love, family, and community in a way that left me with cheeks-aching smile.

”West soothed me. Never pushed me too far. Always made me feel better about myself, never worse. God, he’s treated me with such love. It makes my heart race. It makes my heart ache. It makes my heart a little more his than it already was.”

“And I don’t know how it happened so quickly, so out of the blue, but Skylar feels integral to me. It’s inexplicable—cellular. All I know is that she and I were meant to meet on that road.”

"No, fancy face. Those are wild eyes. The eyes of a woman who just chose fight over flight. Don't smother that. Keep 'em and you'll come out on top. Trust me."

Skylar Stone.
Chart-Topping Country Music Star.
Here in rural mountain range Canada.
After the past couple of weeks, an escape was what she needed.
But she never counted on escaping right into West Belmont.
The horse training shameless flirt… and single dad.
But Skylar has never had anyone like West in her life.
And she wants him to stay… he wants that too.
But we can't always get what we want…
But no one ever said you should never try 💫

"He sees past all the vibrant colors, all the shiny foiling. It’s like no matter how pretty the cover is, he knows that if he opened the book, the pages would be blank."

I received an advanced reader's copy in exchange for an honest review 🧡🧡

"No, there's an edge to Skylar that someone's tried to disguise with pretty paint and curtains. But I see it all the same. And I like it."

I already knew this book was going to be amazing before I even saw the blurb or the tropes. The title had me hooked! Elsie Silver brings us back into Rose Hill with Skylar and West and I could not be more obsessed with them. I mean Country Music Star and Horse Training Single Dad??? Sign me up and leave me there - don't pick me up - don't call I won't be answering because I will be too IN ABSOLUTE LOVE with this storyline!!! I could not stop blushing throughout this whole book - the spice, the chemistry, THE QUIPS OMFGGGG - ABSOLUTELY OBSESSED WITH WEST AND SKYLAR'S BANTER IT SHOULD GET AN AWARD I SWEAR!
Also - as you know "Friends to Lovers" is not my favorite trope but as always there is an exception list and this book has made it RIGHT TO THE VERY TOP!!
Anyway they will be living rent free in my head so thank you very much 🧡💫

"She's always looked good to me. But after weeks spent in Rose Hill, she looks better."

I loved Skylar - the introduction of her absolutely made me cackle because it was so wild (no pun intended) and it set up the characters so perfectly in my opinion. If anyone has ever seen Nashville - Skylar definitely gave me Juliet vibes in the best ways (as you can see in the playlist too!!) - the way she was with West and his kids and her interaction with the town - I absolutely loved it! Also shout out to Doris - I want to be her when I grow up she is an icon and a legend.
West Belmont is the flirty single dad and I fell in love with him from the first chapter because how the fuck could you not?? The way he takes care of his kids and Skylar - he sees her without her needing to say anything and it absolutely mesmerizes me. Elsie Silver did not hold back with this book and I could not put it down for the life of me!! 🧡💫

"Breathing is overrated. I'd rather be drowning in you."

Now - we all know this is going to be a country playlist and I really think I nailed it so I hope you enjoy 😇😇

elsie will never not absolutely devour a single dad, but i was NEVER sold on skylar 😭 something about a celebrity romance just gives me the ick- personal preference, but i love love LOVED west!!!!

lord almighty that man…elsie somehow always surprises me with her spice because????? west had my jaw actually dropping (as it should be) and the THINGS he would SAY and DO. hot diggity damn.

the children were adorable AS PER USUAL, they felt so incredibly real and their sibling dynamic/family dynamic with skylar was honestly pretty heartwarming 🥹

at this point im almost certain nothing is beating heartless/chestnut springs in my heart, but i at least had an okay time with this haha

➳ 2 ☆

“how are you twenty-six and you don’t know how to make a bed?” we all want to know this actually.

this rating hurts me a lot because i love all of elsie's work. she is an auto buy author for me, and this was one of my most anticipated releases. there are a lot of issues i had with this book, so i will try my best to explain that down below, with no spoilers of course. but sadly, this is my lowest rated book from her.

the first issue i had with this was the insta love/lust/obsession~ our two main characters: skylar stone and weston belmont, meet for the first time in real life in a do or die situation. aka (skylar was stupid and wanted to take photos with fucking grizzly bears 3 feet away from her)?? yeah, ok sister. not sure why in this high tension situation--where your life could be at risk--these grown ass adults are having sexual thoughts about one another. i was taken aback, i cannot lie.

the next issue i had was the random one sided beef with other women~ i don't like other woman drama, because 10/10 times it is grown adults acting like kids and fighting over a man.... let's grow up please. i don't mind when guys are fighting over the woman, but women pitting against each other makes me cringe.

the next jarring thing i noticed were the childish antics~ both main characters are 26 and older, however, they converse like they just got to planet earth. so much so, that the fucking KIDS in this book were acting more mature. skylar was randomly saying very inappropriate shit in front of children and that took me out. maybe some cultures are different, but if my parents knew some random ass adult was saying shit to me when i was younger, they would have their ass beat.

i try not to cringe over the fact that i swapped from an internal monologue to an external one. i got the ick too quick.

why are kids speaking like grown ups?~ i don't know if it's the indian family of mine, but i was never raised like this. every-time a child under the age of twelve speaks like a thirty year old, i tap out. in this book, the FMC is literally getting advice from a damn six and eight year old. what is going on?? your dorsolateral prefrontal cortex is FULLY developed. don't piss me off.

beyoncé wannabes~ the entire first half of this book was her gassing herself up for being this "famous popstar" and not being able to go anywhere without getting recognized or treated like royalty.... she was not all that. there was also this entire scope where she won an award even though she was the worst on page "singer" i have read about. she can't write music, she can barley sing well, and is described as being all dolled up and fake. yet, i am supposed to believe EVERYONE is obsessed with her??!! i was rolling on the floor. i don't think elsie knows how the music industry works behind the scenes.

lack of side characters~ the glimpses of ford, rosie, tabby, and rhys were the only good part of this novel. they should've had more presence to save this book. i knew my dumbass was cooked when i was more interested in the future couple, rather than the one that i was currently reading about.

the stupid nickname~ not every book needs a nickname... "fancy face" and "thick thighs"???? were atrocious. on top of that, her constantly repeating how she is so perfect on the outside but so different on the inside. well no shit girl. it's called acting. every single famous person does that. guess what, the rest of us normal people do it too. let's stop acting like we discovered a new planet. the antics and melodrama were insane with this one. shut. the. fuck. up.

overall, if i find the female character annoying, i am finished. i support my girls, until they are written really cringy and jejune. which in this case, skylar was a gone case from the start. i understand she had struggles and challenges, but she was old enough to know better. her ignorance is bliss bullshit was getting so old. again, you are not princess kate.... her amygdala and cerebral cortex were not functioning in the slightest. west was "trying"? to carry this story, but nothing saved this book for me. he was an amazing father to his kids, an amazing brother to rosie, and a great best-friend to ford, but his relationship with skylar was superficial at best.

props for the cover being orange & pretty. we need more pretty orange covers.

2⭐️

SADDDD I am so sad. 😭 I wanted to love this SO BAD but I did not...I really did not.

The first thing that got me was the pop-star/famous singer trope. I'm not the biggest fan and I went in knowing that but still wanting to give it a shot. I'm glad I did, but my opinion did not change. This was not written in a way that I enjoyed. Most people claimed to have loved this one more than Wild Love. However, I am in the minority that just didn't care for this one and liked Wild Love wayyyy more.

I also didn't like Skylar as a character. I like a strong FMC and this girl was not that. She would constantly say that she was tired of others using her and telling her what to do....then made zero self-improvement to back that up. I wanted her character growth to really shine and it did on like the 5th to last chapter. NOT ENOUGH!!! I kept telling myself that it'll get better and I'll like the ending more. SPOILER ALERT!! I did not.

The 2 stars are for West, Ollie, and the spice. I knew I was going to love West and I was proven right (thank god). His personality really carried over from the first book which I personally really enjoyed. HOWEVER, there is a downside. Skylar and West's chemistry...not a fan. I just couldn't picture these two together because of their personality clashes. Ollie is the sweetest boy ever and he deserves to be protected at all costs. The spice in this book? Probably one of the spiciest book Elsie has written. It's dirty and filthy and I loved it.

Overall, I was bitterly disappointed. I went into this wanting to like it, but inevitably I did not. This does not change the fact that Elsie Silver is still an auto-buy author for me. I just think she wrote a book that didn't have the tropes I like and just wasn't a fan of. And that's okay!!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
For all the ones who have felt crippled by the opinions of others. I hope you learn to love what you're doing so completely that all those critical voices cease to matter.
And until then, remember that thriving is winning.
Go forth and thrive.
it’s the way elsie silver cannot write a bad main character or a bad book!!!
you guys know me, it’s a 10/10. kindly bury me with this book thank you.
skylar stone is a famous country singer whose life blows up when she realizes everything in her life is fabricated… down to her relationship. so, she leaves everything behind for rose hill to try and write a record on her own. within her first hour in town, she has a fun run-in with a grizzly bear and is luckily saved by hot, tattooed, single dad west (suddenly, i must run into a grizzly bear…)
this book just gave and gave and gave some more!
i did not expect to really relate to skylar at all but her story was really one of finding herself and tearing down everything you thought you knew about who you were supposed to be and building yourself back up. she was funny and sassy and empathetic and was the perfect missing piece for west and his kids.
WESTON BELMONT, REPORT TO MY HOUSE FOR NIGHT CHECKS FOREVER. hot, tattooed cinnamon roll/golden retriever hero who has always shied away from commitment but for the right girl is like hi, here’s a piece of my heart? GIMME 15 OF EM. i loved him as a person, as a love interest, and most importantly as a father. he’s one of the best single dads i’ve ever read. E V E R. i don’t know why authors keep sending me to therapy with these characters who don’t feel wanted… i get it, i have issues!!!!
emmy + oliver, two perfect book children who provided comedic relief and also the sweetest moments ever 😭
i loved it so much. i loved their relationship with all its banter, CHEMISTRYYYYY, and emotions. i loved their little family. i just want to live in rose hill.
Where do I even begin? Every Elsie Silver book is magic and Wild Eyes is no different. I fell so hard for West the moment he meets Skylar. He is one of the best single dads I’ve ever read and the way he is with his kids!? Swoooon. The connection he has with Skylar is so real and my heart hurt for her and everything she goes through in this book. But her connection with his kids?? That was everything.
There was a lot that both West and Skylar were personally dealing with, and there were a few really vulnerable points that I related to SO HARD. They're at a time in their lives where they just really need someone like each other to let in and to reflect and reevaluate how they're currently living their lives. I loved the growth that Skylar especially went through and how she found herself in the end.
The setting of this book was just perfection and now I want to move to a small town in Canada and live on a ranch 🤣
And be warned, there were actual tears in my eyes at the end of this book, and it takes A LOT for me to cry. This book was just so special and absolutely one of my favorites of the year!!
The biggest happy release day to Elsie! I couldn’t beg you more to pick this up if I tried!
I'll be honest...this was disappointing. I'd expected so much more from this book and unfortunately, it didn't live up to my expectations. I've really enjoyed Elsie's writing for over a year now and this is the first time I've found myself not wanting to continue reading - but I finally finished it. A major turn off and the thing that I disliked about Wild Eyes was the unnecessary one sided drama and jealousy. I wasn't completely sold on West either. Idk, he just felt...underwhelming. The smut was good tho. But the best part of this book? Ollie and Emmy, hands down. I loved those kids a lot - that's one thing that ES does well. Also Skylar's parents...I HATE them. Skylar was a nice character and I liked seeing Ford, Rosie and Cora as well. With that being said, it wasn't a bad read...it's just not for me because there were certain parts that I couldn't tolerate/didn't have the patience to put up with.
*Thank you to Elsie Silver and Periwinkle Pony PR for providing me with an ARC!
safety squad:
- slight OW drama (H's ex fwb/fuck buddy causes some one sided drama and results in the h getting jealous. H doesn't entertain her but it still annoyed me. Personally, I like my men to be jealous and not the other way around)
- no OM drama
- no cheating/sharing
- no virgins (but it has been mentioned that H only engages in casual relationships and is a commitment phobe)
- single dad (H has been married before but his ex-wife/baby mama doesn't cause drama, is civil/friendly and is with someone else)
- age gap-ish (H is 33, h is 26)
- country music singer (celebrity) x small town hero
- friends to lovers (the push and pull was something that I didn't particularly enjoy tbh)
- HEA
breaking news: weston “spit on it” belmont and skylar stone are elsie silvers hottest and sweetest couple yet 😮‍💨🫣🤭🥵
infinite stars honestly
lord have mercy. i knew from the moment i met him in Wild Love that weston belmont would officially kick every single elsie silver man to the curb and man oh man am i so fucking happy that he did exactly that 😩
there was not a dull moment from start to finish in this book, it was one big, beautiful, healing journey where west and skylar not only found themselves but their forever home. this was the ULTIMATE single dad book, i dont think i can even put into words how amazing of a father west is to his babies.
their chemistry, the intimacy, THE BURNNNNN/WILL THEY, WONT THEY MY GOODNESS SO GOOD.
i truly think that this is elsie’s best in general but also best flowing book, there isnt a single scene where you feel you wanting and like you havent gotten enough of it. there is an insane amount of character growth between multiple characters, there isnt any unnecessary drama that doesnt move our plot forward, the sneaking around… 😏
emmy & ollie, the sweetest, funniest angels there are. every single interaction these two had with skylar through out the book put the biggest smile on my face. the first time ollie and skylar meet i was screaming and pumping my fist in the air so proud of that little man and seeing how everyone handled that afterwards tore my heart to pieces in the best of ways 😭🧡
seeing coach thick thighs in action did insane things to my brain, let me freaking tell ya. this book taught me that if i ever get married and have kids the first damn course of action as soon as they can run is making that man become a tiny people soccer coach… and while im at it maybe making them start a horse training ranch… 😂
the love and friendship between these two came so easy, even if they didnt want to admit it. i adored these two with everything in me and seriously already cannot wait to listen to teddy hamilton and savannah peachwood bring them to life 😭
Another banger from Elsie Silver! This new series is so cute. I love the bowling dads and the small town characters. West was EVERYTHING. He was so fiercely protective and unapologetic about his feelings from the very beginning. And sweet Skylar — she had such a healing journey and I was here for it. I loved the audiobook and especially loved the songs performed by Alyssa! Highly recommend!
“Breathing is overrated. I’d rather be drowning in you.”
Skylar Stone, a country singer in the middle of a rough patch, thinks a mountain town getaway might be just what she needs. But her plans hit a snag the moment she bumps into Weston Belmont, a seriously charming single dad. Instead of finding peace, she ends up falling for Weston and his adorable kids. Weston is confident, flirtatious, and completely distracting, making it hard for Skylar to keep her life in order. Even though she’s never felt so supported and loved, her celebrity life keeps looming over her, threatening to pull them apart. Skylar knows she should be careful, but she can’t help feeling that, despite everything, she might have found where she truly belongs.
➸ Going into this book, I was really hoping Elsie would deliver something better than Wild Love, which didn’t quite hit the mark for me. I'm happy to say this one is definitely an improvement. I was hooked from start to finish and found it really engaging.
I didn’t fall head over heels for it, though—I still think there are better books in the Chestnut Springs series. That said, this one had its share of sweet moments and the romance was pretty solid. The smut scenes were definitely hot, and the single-dad trope was done really well. West’s relationship with his kids, Emmy and Oliver, was especially heartwarming and beautifully portrayed. He’s definitely one of the best single dads I’ve come across so far!
Skylar ౨ৎ Skylar isn’t my favourite Elsie Silver fmc, and it definitely impacted my rating of the book. Honestly, Skylar came off as pretty insufferable in this one, which was a letdown. Her not knowing how to make a bed felt a bit unrealistic—sure, she grew up rich and had everything done for her, but it’s not exactly rocket science, right? I mean, having to look it up on YouTube was just a tad much. 😭
Also, her trying to take a video with a grizzly bear for her socials?? That was just dumb lmao. She should have known better than to get that close to a wild animal. It felt so out of touch with reality. And the constant checking of her phone for headlines about herself got really repetitive and annoying.
As for her being a famous country singer, I couldn’t quite take it seriously. Especially with a song titled “Photosynthesis.” I’m sorry, but no matter how deep the meaning was I just couldn’t get past that.
BUT she wasn’t completely unbearable. There were a few redeeming qualities she had. Her journey through personal struggles and rebuilding her life was genuinely inspiring. I absolutely hated her parents though. No child should ever have to endure that kind of treatment and I felt so bad for Skylar having to go through it her whole life. Plus, the way she interacted with West’s kids was really sweet. The fact that she made Oliver, who usually doesn’t talk to anyone feel comfortable enough to open up was adorable. She really was a perfect fit for them!
West ౨ৎ I was totally smitten with this flirty golden retriever single dad from the very first chapter cause how tf could you not be? He embodies what it means to truly see, hear and love someone unconditionally. The way he was Skylar’s biggest fan before he even knew her personally was so heartwarming to watch and the way he cares for his kids is so adorable! West supports and understands Skylar without her even needing to explain herself is something so special. It’s like he has this incredible ability to read her, to know what she needs without her saying a word. Their connection feels so genuine and deep. The way West is absolutely meant to be in her life the way he consistently shows his unwavering support and the way he brings out the best in Skylar makes him such a perfect match for her!
Skylar and West were clearly made for each other, and I absolutely loved them as a couple. Their meeting felt like fate—Skylar was lost and overwhelmed by the chaos in her life, her trust shattered by those she thought she could rely on. Then West came along, unaware of just how profoundly he’d end up impacting her life in such a positive way. By being genuinely kind and truly getting to know Skylar beyond her celebrity persona, West helped her find peace and added a whole new depth to their love. Their relationship felt so genuine, and the way it evolved from West being her biggest fan to becoming her friend and then her lover made it all the more meaningful.
What I didn’t like:
- The OW drama. I don’t see why West’s ex-fwb had to be part of the story it felt so unnecessary. Honestly, the book would have been just fine without it.
- The way the third-act conflict was soooo predictable. As soon as Skylar sent those emails I knew something was going to go wrong, especially given her level of fame
Overall, while Wild Eyes didn’t completely win me over, it was definitely an improvement from Elsie's previous work, Wild Love . The romance between Skylar and West was heartwarming and engaging, with some truly sweet moments. It’s a solid addition to the Rose Hill series, even if it doesn’t quite reach the heights of Elsie Silver’s best works.
♥ Quotes & Moments ♥
“No, fancy face. Those”—he points at my face, finger flicking from side to side—“are wild eyes. The eyes of a woman who just chose fight over flight. Don’t smother that. Keep ‘em and you’ll come out on top. Trust me.”
“We’re a love song, West. Tragic and true all at once.
I’ve met a man who loves me at my lowest of lows, who is my number-one fan.
2.5⭐ Okay so first off I love Elsie. She is and will always be an auto-buy author for me! So it crushes my entire soul that I didn't like this.
Unfortunately, this is my least favorite Elsie book. I think it’s just the story for me, because the writing was good - I just simply could not get into this. I didn’t really love either character and I’m not really into the ‘one of us is famous’ trope so I found myself extremely bored the entire time.
Also, the nickname was.. odd? Idk. Like I said I love Elsie and before this book I never rated an Elsie book less than 4 ⭐️ but I have to stay true to myself and it just took everything in me to finish this.
I will say, I am sooooo excited for the rest of the series because Wild Love is my favorite Elsie book. So, while this book wasn’t for me… Elsie still remains an auto-buy author and I still recommend everyone to read this (since it's probably just me 🤣)
One of my favorite Elsie books yet!! West has officially taken first place for my favorite fictional single dad❤️‍🔥 Absolutely LOVE Skylar’s character development! This is some of Elsie’s best writing yet in my opinion. As usual she does an incredible job delivering a story that has the perfect balance of witty banter, emotional depth, and meaningful themes. Elsie will forever be an auto buy author for me and her books are honestly some of the biggest highlights of my entire reading year!
What to expect:
✨ Single dad/ country music star
✨ Slow burn
✨ Witty banter
✨ Anxiety rep
✨ FMC self discovery
✨ Cinnamon roll MMC
Thank you SO MUCH to Elsie Silver and Periwinkle Pony PR for choosing me as an ARC reader for this book🧡 This was one of my most anticipated reads of 2024 and it did not disappoint!! I’ll be counting down the days until Wild Side is released😍
MOVE ASIDE DADDY CADE BECAUSE DADDY WEST IS IN TOWN!!!!!
—single dad
—she’s a famous singer
—small town
—SPITTING HEHEHEHEHE
This is a feral review already and I just want to keep it going because West has me feeling some type of way!!! ELSIE WHAT DID YOU PUT IN THIS BECAUSE THIS BOOK WAS DELICIOUS LIKE CHOCOLATE CAKE. My goodness. You know how when you eat cake, one slice is usually enough and you’re good, well this book is the whole cake and I want to eat it in one bite.
The chemistry, the tension, the slow burn, the friendship, everything about this book was perfect. From start to finish I was thoroughly addicted. Skylar and West had it going right from the beginning and I never wanted it to stop. Plus the side characters were the cherry on top. Everything from the character development, to the chemistry, to the side characters, to the spice flowed absolutely perfect and truly made this book stand out from the rest.
If you’re in the mood for another Elsie Silver masterpiece, pick this one up immediately. You won’t regret it for Daddy West, I promise.
I'd give up every bit of fame/for moonlights by the water and the way you whisper my name
2.5 stars :/
Before I really get into this review, I have to say that the way music was incorporated into the audio book was amazing. There are 2 full, original songs and they're honestly so beautiful. I have no idea how they're accessed if you're reading the physical book or eBook but if you eyeball read this book, find a way to listen to the songs at the points they're brought up in the story because its such a wonderful experience. It is something I have wanted from every single book I've ever read with a musician character. I loved that this was a little multimedia experience and it made me feel so much more connected with the story. Really, really good stuff. I bumped up a full star for it.
I just wish the rest of the book was actually good. Because songs like that in a book where I loved the characters and their relationship and felt their joy and pain? That would've made this one of my favorite books ever.
I fear this series is turning me into an Elsie hater.
Trust me when I say this is the last thing I wanted or expected. I can't tell if its me or her at this point, and I'm scared to reread Chestnut Springs in case it's me.
In Wild Love, it was easy to pinpoint. Sperm donors aren't dads and that's a tidbit I couldn't get over. Incredibly difficult, traumatic topics were completely glossed over and not treated with the care they deserved. Rosie sucked the whole book, and Ford sucked in the end. The book had very few if any redeeming factors. It was like, shockingly bad.
In Wild Eyes, it was all a little more... nebulous? The very first chapter was awful - Skylar could not be more of an unlikable bimbo. That part was easy to hate. Their "meet cute" is literally him saving her from a bear attack because she tried to take a selfie with a mama bear and its cubs. I'm?????? This isn't something that happens because one grew up sheltered in the city, this is something that happens because someone is an unforgivable, irredeemable moron. You cannot then make that person into the heroine I'm supposed to root for. I'm over here cheering for natural selection.
After that, its harder to explain why the book was so bad. She grows from there I guess, but it just kinda... happens? Like it feels like after that experience she just decides not to be that girl anymore and after that she's fine with getting dirty and being a country girl.
In all honesty, all of the development in this story felt that way. She and West are both just In Love without really falling. His kids love and accept and bond with her without anyone putting in effort or pushing back. She realizes her parents were bad (although her mom doesn't really seem to exist?) and the epiphany is enough for her to, essentially, heal and learn to stand up for herself. She decides to write her own music for the first time and with a little fresh mountain air, she's able to create an entire album in a few weeks.
The spice should've been good in theory - some of Elsie's best, probably - but I wasn't connected enough to the characters to care about it. It kind of just seemed gross. The last 10 or so chapters should've been good too, I think? I kept feeling like the writing sounded good but didn't feel good in a way I couldn't explain. Like I agreed it's what the characters should be doing and feeling and it all made sense for the story but I still just couldn't enjoy it.
His nickname for her is "fancy face" :/ and he unironically calls her that, even during sex :////
He stands up to her dad and then turns to her and says, literally, "let's blow this popsicle stand". I'm. So embarrassed.
Have I outgrown Elsie or has she outgrown her own abilities? Was she ever actually good, or was it just Heartless and Reckless that were good? Are they even as good as I remember? I'm having an existential crisis.
Elsie out here keeping us fed with the most deliciously mouth watering single daddies!!! Consider my daddy issues healed because Weston?! OMG THAT MAN!!! He shows what it means to be seen, heard and loved unconditionally! And seeing Skye finally getting the love she should have received from the start had me fist pumping over here! Like get that man girl! I adored their dynamic from the very moment they met and don’t even get me started on the kids?!! ADORABLE!! And I honestly wanted more moments with them!!
I have to add that the spice in this?! SOOO FREAKING GOOD!! certain scenes will forever live in my mind rent free, cause oh my gosh.
