When You're Back

Rate this book
From #1 New York Times bestselling author Abbi Glines comes the next new adult novel in her beloved Rosemary Beach series, which continues the story of Mase and Reese from When I’m Gone.

She was where my home would always be. It was time I took the next step and proved to her I was all in. Forever.

A chance meeting in Rosemary Beach has turned into a fairy-tale romance as Reese prepares to move in with Mase on his family ranch in Texas. With the loving support of the Colts, and her recent discovery that she has family of her own, Reese can finally move on from the dark horrors of her past and into a bright future.

But Aida isn’t going to let that happen. The beautiful blonde has been raised to think of Mase as her cousin, but it’s clear to Reese that Aida doesn’t love Mase like a cousin should.

And then there’s Captain, the inescapable stranger who has connections in Dallas and Rosemary Beach—and who conveniently shows up wherever Reese happens to be. Hot, mysterious, and plain-speaking, Captain isn’t afraid to tell Reese what he thinks about Mase—and how he feels about her.

As the competition for Mase and Reese’s hearts heats up, Reese’s past begins to unravel, illuminating shocking truths that will forever change the lives of the happy couple—and set the final stories of Rosemary Beach in motion.

I have seen mixed reviews on When You’re Back, but it’s book 12 in the Rosemary Beach series and I’ve read the other 11 so I figured why stop now? I’m no quitter and I wanted to see for myself if the book was enjoyable or a dud. For me, it was a good one. I’m not sure if I liked it quite as much as the first, but it was still a fun read with several twists (one I really liked).

When You’re Back takes place in Mase’s ranch in Texas, not Rosemary Beach. Mase has to get back to his work and Reese can’t be without him so she moves to the ranch. She decides while she’s in Texas, she needs to get a job. To be strong and independent. But she’s not letting her issues get the best of her, she’s going to try to put herself out there and do something she never thought she could do. Get a job that requires reading, writing etc.

I love Reese and Mase together. They are both fantastic characters. You can just feel how much they love each other and what they mean to one another.
“I can swear to you that you will always be it for me. No one fits me like you. No one makes me feel whole. No one else ever will.”

Several new characters were brought in- one I loved, Blaire’s brother, Captain I feel like Captain was maybe the best part of the book! I’m happy we’ll be getting his book in just a few months! And then there is a character almost as unlikable as Nan! Mase’s awful cousin Aida. It was always good to see Major and I have my theories about him… .

Rosemary Beach series is one of those series that have been hit or miss for me, but honesty- more of them have been a hit then a miss so I’m going to keep on reading!

”Reese is everything I never knew I needed but I can’t live without.”

description

This installment wasn’t bad however it wasn’t unforgettable like some books by this author either. Still, it was actually a pretty entertaining read. I loved getting caught up in Reese and Mase and liked these two much more in this book than the prior. I also found a few characters pretty interesting while some were so not needed. For instance, I’m not sure for the need of Mase’s obsessed bitchy cousin, Aida at all. Seems she was just added as the Texas-Nan. Still adding the right amounts of Kiro, Harlow and Blaire’s brother...River ‘Captain’ Kipling and Major (yeah need to think of better nicknames in this series a bit too similar).

This is part two of Reese and Mase’s story as Reese comes to Texas to live with Mase on his ranch. She encounters the bitchy cousin lover, the mysterious Captain and finds a place for herself in Mase’s world. The story had a few trips to Chicago, Los Angeles and of course Rosemary Beach which was an added bonus.

Some lines were simply eye roll inducing….

”You taste like a fucking cinnamon bun, and when you come, it’s like sweet cream. I couldn’t stop. It was too damn good.”

I did however get sucked into Mase and Reese’s love and I kind of liked some parts of the drama and of course all things cowboy!!

description

Nonetheless, minus the cousin and few things here and there I found myself rooting for these two and liked the story overall.

”I can swear to you that you will always be it for me. No one fits me like you. No one makes me feel whole. No one else ever will.”

Overall, this series is pretty inconsistent in books that are good and books that seem cookie cutter and/or drama for the sake of drama. Still, if you have read Kiro and Emily’s book you’ll know that for every book there is a diamond amongst the series and so I’m hoping the next book brings that level of greatness!

This second installment starts almost after the end of the first with Reese getting back to the ranch after spending some time with her father and finally beginning her life with Mason. Everything seems perfect until Mason’s cousin (that it’s not really his cousin) comes to spend some time on the ranch and it’s pretty clear that her feelings for Mason are far from fraternal.

I don’t know if it’s just me, but in my eyes Abbi Glines always write the same books over and over again. She just changes the names, the professions and the background, but the line her stories follow are always the same exact one. I’m not saying this as criticism because for me this formula works so well that I always end up buying almost all of her books. It’s her predictably that actually makes me so loyal to her writing. This book was no exception: an alpha hero, a sweet and innocent heroine, some drama (most of them completely avoidable with communication, but I’m going to let that slide), steamy moments and a romantic storyline. No really, what can I ask more?

Rating: 4 Stars,
Characters Development: Mason was good, a typical Abbi Glines hero. Possessive, sweet and a little alpha. Reese was sweet but a little “too good”, so much that it came to a point where such amount of goodness starts to seem fake, I liked to see more of the others, I can’t wait for Captain’s story because it seems like (for the first time) Abbi Glines will do something different with him.

Abbi Glines is a huge guilty pleasure read for me. I'll read anything she writes but it's because she gives me my angst fix. It's like she's my angst dealer and some of it's good quality and others not as good.

While I enjoyed reading this one, it felt like a stepping stone to build upon other books. Captain stole a lot of the show, but I felt the purpose of that was to set up his book. I also got sick of the storyline with Mase's cousin who now can be ranked as the most annoying character in the Rosemary Beach series.

I did like how Reese was given a chance to shine. She was able to accomplish her goals on her own with Mase's support, and he proved what an amazing guy he was by doing everything he could to encourage her.

So I'd like to give this 4 stars, but I can't because I only just liked it. I didn't really like or love it.

What can I say but I am a big Abbi Glines fanatic!! And in her newest installment to the Rosemary Beach Series, I couldn't wait to get my hands on When You're Back and be reunited with the sexy and sweet cowboy, Mase Colt Manning.

#WhenYoureBack

As always, you can always count Ms. Glines in delivering those hot sexy sweet Southern Boys to sweep you off your feet. And this time, she has her fans swooning once again for the sexy protective cowboy, Mase. When You're Back picks off where it last left off in When I'm Gone and this time, Mase and Reese must face the challenges of any new relationship. And in this book, they will have to face the challenges of trust, insecurity, jealousy and of course a lil bit of drama. An Abbi Glines book is not complete with a little angst and drama to keep you hooked. Without spoiling anything for the readers, I will just say that I loved that Ms. Glines kept the focus of the story of Mase and Reese in Texas. I loved that she was able to show the separation of the Rosemary gang and how this couple was trying to build their own life and relationship separate from their friends. As always, this book had emotions and love pouring off the pages as Mase and Reese tried to grow together as a couple. The love between them was tangible and exemplified a couple who are madly in love with each other. There is no denying it, Abbi has once again added another book boyfriend to my list.

#WhenYoureMine1

When You're Back was a tangible, heart-tugging, touching, and beautiful book with an added touch of suspense and drama thrown into the mix. The writing and story-line was beautifully executed. One word to sum up reading an Abbi Glines book is addicting!!! Yes, addicting because I can't get enough of these beloved characters!!! I look forward to reading what Abbi Glines has in store for Captain in the next book.

At first I rated this book 2.5 stars. But sorry not sorry, I changed my mind. Now I think about it, I don't think this book deserves that high rating.

Review contains minor spoiler

I used to love Abbi Glines books so much but I don’t think I like her writing style anymore now.
This is the lowest rating I ever gave to Abbi’s book.

The reasons why I don’t like this book or Abbi Glines’ writing style:

1. After reading 12 books in this series I finally realized that each book in this series practically has the same pattern: Fucked-up family background, insta-love, bad boy-turns-good-boy heroes, heroines got knocked up before the heroes propose them.
Can you see it now? I’ve read 12 books with exactly the same pattern. I’m sick of it already.
description

2. This book is pretty short but it has TOO MANY unnecessary additional characters and dramas. This is Mase and Reese’s story, right? But this book is too complex that it’s not focus to the main characters’ problem. I’m glad that there’s no Nan’s appearance here BUT there’s this new character, Aida. She is Mase’s cousin and she’s hitting on him. See? Another fucked-up family thingy is happening here. Aida is like the new Nan. And Aida and Mase in this book are like Rush and Nan all over again! Isn’t this book supposed to focus on Mase and Reese? But Captain (another new character. He is Blaire’s half brother, he appeared in Too Far series) is dominating almost half of the story! It seems like his character is more important than the main characters themselves, when he is only a supporting character in this book. I know the next book of this series will be Captain’s story, but why not focus on Reese and Mase first since it’s their story for fuck’s sake!
And the drama? Hell, you will even find the drama from the VERY FIRST chapter!
description

3. Too cheesy and unrealistic.
I know most of romance novels are so cheesy but this book is even cheesier than all romance novels I ever read. ALL heroes in this series keep saying something so cheesy like for example, in this case is Mase, he keeps saying “Reese was my world, she was my everything, I couldn’t live without her, blah blah blah” over and over again!
description
It’s like Abbi is trying TOO HARD to make the heroes so sweet so that the readers are swooning. But it’s too unrealistic! And it doesn't make me swoon anymore!
description

4. I don’t like Reese. SO MUCH. She’s so weak, vulnerable, and broken. I don’t like that kind of heroine. Seriously Blaire is the best heroine in this series.

5. I’m so fucking done with Kiro and “his Emily” drama! Honestly this is the most UNNECESSARY part in this book.
Why the hell he even appears in this book AGAIN? He and Emily have their own story already but they still appear in this book with the same bullshit: Kiro can’t get over Emily, Emily is everything to him, Emily took his heart with her, blah blah blah...
Seriously??
description
This Emily bullshit is not even realistic. Just get your shit together, Kiro!
description

6. I thought this book was the conclusion of Reese and Mase story? But WHY it still ends with cliffhanger? So does it mean the conclusion will be in the next book? And the next book is Captain’s story! See? Just like what I said earlier, NOT FOCUS.

I don’t even know if I want to read the next books, or any of Abbi books anymore for that matter.

When You’re Back is the conclusion of Mase and Reese’s story, and honestly it just makes me so sad that we are nearing the end of the Rosemary Beach Series.

The story begins with Reese in Chicago visiting her father and Mase back in Texas working on his family’s ranch. I was so intrigued to see where this story would go since I didn’t expect a sequel for Mase and Reese. After reading it I can definitely see why it was needed. In the sequel, Reese finds her place in Texas and gains so much confidence.

"Don’t let you weakness define you, Reese. Ever. Your strengths should define you.”

I really love Reese, I love a character who has strength and determination. This girl refuses to let her past define her and I commend her for it. Her imperfections just added to her charms and I loved her genuineness. Mase was a little naive and that’s where I lost some of my five star feelings. I felt like a lot of moments could have been handled differently and I would have enjoyed the story even more.

I was his. Everything about me belonged to Mase Colt Manning.

The beginning started off a little odd for me and I was a little perplexed to say the least. However, after the story started picking up I really got into it and fell in love with a new character: Captain. Yes, Blair’s brother freaking stole the show and I cannot wait for his book! I really enjoyed all the sexy moments with Reese and Mase. However, seeing them learn to trust each and find strength in each other brought a huge smile to my face and made this sequel feel necessary. I love this series and highly recommend if you are a fan!

You all know I love Mase and Reese's story but I was a little let down by the previous book about them, When I'm Gone. Well with this one Abbi Glines redeemed herself and gave us finally a great story :D

description

The story continues almost where the previous one left us. We find out that Reese got to meet her father and extended family and spend a few weeks with them. Now she is of to surprise Mase at his farm but she finds him hanging out with another woman...

description

True she is his cousin but they are not blood related and she's a total bitch...and did I mentions she's in love and totally obsessed with Mase?

description

We also get to read more about Captain, Blaire’s half brother, and see him in a new light. Let me tell you ladies...you will not be expecting the turn of events regarding him...I know I didn't. But he's sooooooo drool worthy :D

description

I loved how Mase and Reese's story ended and I can't wait for Captain's story and who's going to tame this hot stallion :P

Okay here's the thing. I LOVE this series to death even though it's not a literary masterpiece or anything. I love these books because I love all of the characters so much and the same goes for this book, except this book lacked other things for me. Usually throughout these books, there is a main plot-line going on regarding the two main characters of the story, and I felt like the actual plot of this book didn't happen until 70% of the way through the book. The rest was just sex. So that was disappointing. But when the story actual starting developing and things started to happen, I was like YES THERE'S THE ABBI GLINES I LOVE WHERE WERE YOU GURL? So usually I rate these books really high because the blend of character development, the plot and the sex are all usually balanced perfectly, but in this one they weren't. Also, another thing that might bother some people (but didn't bother me that much coz I realise these books are pretty unrealistic in terms of the love story) was that some of the things that came out of Mase's mouth just weren't things that normal guys say. The things he says are just too romantic and cheesy and I really don't think guys in real life talk like that (at least, my boyfriend doesn't talk cheese to that extreme) but I still love it because I love these characters and this series is my guilty pleasure sooooo yeah just some quick thoughts about this book! I still absolutely adore this series and I realise that it isn't for everyone!
July 18, 2015
This is the second and last book of Mase and Reese's story and it pretty much picks up where the first one left off. Reese spent some time with someone who showed up unexpectedly and then she's back at Mase's house trying to settle in.

When she shows up unexpectedly, she gets an earful from a newcomer and someone that is close to Mase. Wanting to think the best, Reese tries to treat Mase's cousin, Aida, with respect. Too bad Aida doesn't earn it and that leads to a whole bunch of uncomfortable scenes. It takes a while for Mase to get the message...and from a surprising source!

We also get a whole lot more of Captain aka River (remember him? Blair's half brother?) and he's not exactly what I expected but then again, he's exactly what I expected. Well, except for what happens towards the end! Holy Cow...sure didn't see that coming!

description

But Mase and Reese slowly figure themselves out and move forward with their relationship. I did enjoy the drama it caused for them to question things but Mase is a bit too much there for everyone else.

We do get to hear from a lot of the "gang" especially when Harlow and Grant throw their daughter's one year birthday party. I was surprised to not get any Tripp and Bethy updates...and especially surprised that there was no Nan! (I'm still waiting for the redemption to start.)

I loved how it ended...the twist with the "card" was great but it does leave that part hanging a bit. I was disappointed that Reese ended up in the same "situation" as most of the girls. It would have been nice to mix things up.

The next book is The Best Goodbye with Captain/River. The title worries me and I'm not sure if I'm for or against him ending up with Nan. Oh well, I guess we'll find out in October!

"Could loving someone destroy you that completely?"

description

description

Dear Abbi,

There are heroes and then there are heroes. Mase-Colt Manning is the hero. Just his name elicits feelings of strength and protection. Not to mention, it’s damn sexy, and that’s just his name. He owns it, and lives up to every single syllable. This is why I fell so hard for him in When I’m Gone. You created that. You did that.

When You’re Back gives us more of that. So, thank you.

As much as I do love Mase, I went into this book not really certain I wanted another one. Everything seemed to wrap up so perfectly for Mase and Reese at the end of When I’m Gone, but then it ended with that “surprise visit” at the apartment. I was totally caught off guard.

I guess my fear was that in order for there to be a sequel, more drama would need to be created between Mase and Reese. Relationship drama. I wanted unicorns and rainbows…..and really hot sex.

When You’re Back left me a little indifferent. I wasn’t a huge fan of the Aida drama, not at all. Not because of anything you did, I just liked the other concurrent storylines so much better, and felt Aida added unnecessary drama. It was also nice to see a little growth from Reese, but it also meant fewer opportunities for Mase to be the hero. This book was about her strength.

Regardless, the rest was gripping. The return of Marco. WOW! And then the twist, THE twist!! You definitely ended strong. The “shocking truths” are what kept this story alive. Sometimes I love how your mind works.

I did enjoy When I’m Gone a little more, but I absolutely loved getting more Mase. This book wasn’t necessary, but it’s almost like you write these sequels for no one other than your fans. You indulge them, and that is why I love you. That is why I respect you. And that is why people keep coming back for more.

Your fans are definitely going to be indulged!!

Sincerely,

Your Reader

Much better than my last Glines with a very troubled heroine that works hard to get out of her personal misery rut with the help of a besotted hero.

Abbi Glines has another evil OW that just will not stop. Unfortunately, she made one last threat to the heroine and then disappears. Will Aida be back?

P.S.
Reese, Mase, Aidia, River, Kiro, Blaire....there are no Dick and Janes in Abbi Glines world.

2.5 stars!***

Well. This one let me down. To me this was a worst Abbi Glines book I've read. It was like she just wanted to write another book about Reese and Mase so she put a cliffhanger in the previous book and then wrote this one.

Reese turned from shy, innocent, broken, sexually abused girl into a vixen who suddennly has no intimacy fears and loves sex. It was like the switch in her mind has just tuned up. When it's down she's scared, fearful and unsure of herself and man's inntentions and the touch of man is not something she's really comfortable yet. When it's up she's okay with man, even those she doesn't really know and sex is something she needs and wants in her everyday life.

Mason also turned from a sexy, possessive, gentle cowboy into a still sexy, but so overprotective of Reese's feeling that it was annoying ("I can't do that, it'd upset her.. and you can't say that it'd upset her..blahblahblah") and sometimes he was like an elephant in a china. Stomp.Stomp.Stomp.

The plot itself was bit boring. It was repetitive and nothing has really happened most of the time.

The parts where was Kiro were heartbreaking. I just want him to have a happy end with Emily and it looks like it's not going to happen.

The relationship between Reese and Mase is sweet but sometimes too mushy and needy for my taste. If I ignore those overly sweet moments they complete each other and he makes her braver and she makes him more romantic.

The ending was weird. It was kind of cliffhangerish but it wasn't really. The last chapter was so damn confusing (not the actual last sentense, that made sense and I was expecting that). It could be explained in maybe five or ten pages.. It just left me wondering if someone forgot to put those pages in the official book.

Hopefully they will be explained in Captain's book, because he's connected to it in a weird way. The whole Captain thing will be explained hopefully.

Mase Colt-Manning & Reese Ellis

I am a huge dang suck! Yes I said it. How is it I teared up over half this book!
I mean it’s been known to happen sure but I have already read this book before!! Sigh say la vee.

I loved getting to see Reese become someone kick-butt and awesome, who doesn’t let her past define her future. Also, Maryann is ACE’S in my book she is just the right kind of Momma Reese needs to be around...

Cousins & Cap…River... If I didn’t know what happens in the next book I would so want to box his ears and the cousins too!.

Mase oh Mase. His dad.. Now Harlow got to see what it’s like for Kiro but in this book, Mase gets to experience it. That is a powerful scene.

Is anyone like me and wants to see Dean get his HEA, I kinda of have a man crush on him yeah I said it what you going to do about it. :-p
Also wanted to shake Mase a little and be like SHE IS YOUR COUSIN NOT YOUR SISTER… she can fend for her dang self! Glad Major showed Mase the light so to speak…it was getting painful!

Sigh after all that.. the end gosh this is why I read romance I swear.. the swoon the tears… yep, it all happened… then the envelope came…

"I wasn't sure which was worse, loving and losing or not ever knowing that kind of love at all."

Drama! This is actually what the majority of the book is about.

I L-O-V-E Abbi Glines so much. I’ve actually read all of her books and I especially love the Sea Breeze and the Rosemary Beach series.
When you’re back is the twelfth book in the Rosemary beach series and the sequel to When I’m gone, the continuity to Mase and Reese’s story.

This book picks up where the previous left off. Reese has found her father and her real family. She has moved to Texas to be with Mase and finally shape her future. Soon things get complicated when Aida, Mase’s cousin who is actually in love with him, views Reese as a threat and won’t hesitate to use any means necessary to keep them apart.

When you’re gone reminded me so much of Fallen too far. The characters are different of course, but the plot is pretty much the same. A couple in love being pulled apart by a relative, in this case Aida, Mase’s cousin while in Fallen too far it was Rush’s “sister” Nan, who I HATE! I didn’t really like that but I overlooked it because the story was actually amazing. Reese and Mase were two amazing characters but each had flaws and that made them realistic to me, which was a good thing.

What I truly loved was Captain. I have to confess that I couldn’t remember who he was and when I did find out that he is Blaire’s brother, I’m ashamed to admit that I still couldn’t remember him *gasp*. BUT I really liked him, I was obsessed with finding out more about him. Yet, I’m a bit confused about his actions and I don’t mean the flirting with Reese thing, what I mean is something that you will never, ever see coming. I really need more of Captain. I hope he’s getting a book or something because he was very secretive.

"Don't let your weakness define you, Reese. Ever. Your strengths should define you” -Captain

Another aspect I really loved was the secondary characters. We see almost everyone from the previous boos and the new additions to their families. I was very sorry for Kiro. I usually just ignore him or tend to not like him very much but I was really sorry for him and Emily. I still haven’t read their story ( Kiro’s Emily) and I don’t know when I will be ready to read it. I just know that I’m not sure I can handle the books since we all know the end isn’t a HEA. I’m pretty sure I’m going to cry my eyes out!

When you’re back was a great addition to Mase and Reese’s story with much drama and tension but with incredible characters.

"He made me feel as if I could ask him for anything and he would do it.That was a powerful yet humbling emotion." - Reese

Totally recommended!

Was there really a point to this book besides setting up a storyline for Captain's book? This is one of my least favorite Abbi books thus far. The relationship became too needy and clingy and there was unnecessary drama with Aida, who may be even worse than Nan in my opinion. The best thing about this book was the scenes which included Major. Just no to this book. That's two Abbi books in a row I've been disappointed with and I really want to finish off Rosemary and Sea Breeze. But one more story that feels like I've already read before, I'm not so sure I'll be able to do it.

This review copy was provided to me directly through the publisher for NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

So for this review I'm going to use spoilers. I hope that is okay, so if you are a person reading this review and haven't read the book DO NOT READ THIS REVIEW.

DONT DO IT.

Okay, I'm conflicted. On one hand I really loved reading about Mase and Reese again, but the other part of me feels this book wasn't necessary. Reese and Mase ended perfectly with each other in When I'm Gone, and I know the whole daddy issue called for further clarification but another book? It didn't really need a whole book because this book was just unnecessary drama.

Reese took 100 steps back in the relationship. She grew so much in the first book with being secure with Mase, but this book just forgot all that and she became the insecure girl who always thinks Mase deserves better. The thing that I really am referring to when I say she took steps back is when she finds out she is pregnant. Mase has proven time and time again that he loves her and would do God knows what for her, but she still isn't sure he's gonna want to stick around for this baby. Of course he will. That was my biggest problem with Reese in this, other than that I really liked her. I think deep down she is a very strong female lead. I just wish she had more faith in Mase.

Mase in this book was fine, as always. He was always there for Reese when he wasn't dealing with Adia, which was definitely unnecessary drama. It was solved in like the first 20% of the book and then she came back towards the end to stir more stuff up. It could have been deleted from the book because it added nothing to the plot or characters. But back to Mase, the only problem I had with him was he seemed to be all about sex. Don't get me wrong the scenes were nice and I'm not complaining, I just think it could have been less.

Captain was a huge surprise in this book. I won't say too much about him because his role ends up being gi-freaking-normous, but I will say you may or may not hate him and then by the end of the book, he will be everyones knight and shinning armor. I look forward to seeing everyone's reaction to him.

The book also ended really abruptly but I won't talk about that because Abbi clarified that their story will continue in Captains story, as like a subplot I guess. I have complete faith in Abbi to close their story perfectly and with a nice pretty blue ribbon, because I want Reese and Mase to have a boy.

Overall this was an okay installment. Did I enjoy myself reading it? For the most part. My eyeballs may hurt because I rolled my eyes so much but other than that it was absolutely fine. Did I think this book was necessary? Yes and no. In this book Abbi is still faithful to her humor and making me still swoon over the male leads. I think this book wasn't her strongest but it wasn't the worst.

This review is 100% my real/true thoughts and feelings towards this book. I am still a HUGE Abbi Glines fan and this book doesn't deter that. Mase and Reese are still my favorite couple! If you are an Abbi fan then why haven't you read this yet? It released today. If you read her books for pure enjoyment then you will love this book.

Me complaining about the ending

On one hand I really liked it but the ending was eeeehhh. This was provided to me by NetGalley through an invitation, and so far the E-Arcs haven't been missing any chapters and they've been true to the real published books(I checked). But this ending felt to abrupt. Like the last sentence in the E-Arc was not an ending. It felt like it had a couple more chapters to go. But the last sentence was read obviously in the Epilogue which again leads me to believe this ending was true.

UPDATE 5/21/15
I just got an e-arc of this and I'm so pumped to read it. I won't be reading it until May 25, so that's a bit sad but it's only like four days away so it's cool. I don't even know what the hell will go down in this book.
-----------------------------------

Dear When You're Back,

I need you so much. Giving me a taste of Mase Colt Manning was cruel because I can't finish his story until May. I will wait eagerly for you, though I may break at some point and re read When I'm Gone. I may not like where the whole "Aida" plot is going but I will endure anything in order to see Mase and Reese's story continue on in this book.

Love,
Brianna "who is crying a million tears because this isn't out yet" Manning

P.S.- yes I changed my last name to Mase's. No shame or regrets.

I received an ARC copy of this book from the publisher, in exchange for an honest review.

Can perfection be explained in words? Probably not, but I'll try my best to explain!

I don't know if I'm going to be able to explain how much I enjoyed this book. It was well thought out, definitely one of my all-time favourites from Abbi. To start off, I love cowboys. I've always had an undeniable thing for cowboys, no doubt, and when Abbi Glines's new book series had a cowboy, I just had to read it.

Mase Colt-Manning they called him. Mase Colt-Manning. I mean, that double last name, I'm loving it. When Reese was first introduced in book 1, When I'm Gone, I knew immediately I'd love her character. After finishing When I'm Gone, I needed the next one and am very pleased with how things were resolved through the transition of book 1 to book 2. However, I must say that much is left to be desired, in a very good way. I really wish Mase and Reese had another book. They have been my favourite couple from Rosemary Beach to date.

The new characters introduced to cause a little trouble: Captain or River, and Aida. They were both incredibly frustrating, especially Aida, and I'm sure that's the purpose they were meant to serve. I actually really liked River, but not as someone interested in Reese. I just hope that he get's a book. Aida doesn't need a book because she was very rude to Reese near the end of the book. She was Mase's childhood friend/"cousin" and she thought she'd always have him and I'm glad that Mase didn't put up with her.

Major was one of my favourites. He always called out everyone on the stupid things they did and I liked that. Just when I was really starting to like Major, there was a little hint going on. He was in Rosemary Beach by the end of the novel, instead of Texas. I have a very strong feeling he will end up with Nan, and I think that would be very sweet. She needs someone like him to keep her stable.

Again, this book has a couple of surprises, just as all the other great novels in this series. Just when you think all the surprises are gone, Abbi adds in a couple more to keep you on your toes. And they are great ones. This book was just fantastic. There can't be enough words to describe this book, it was just awesome, amazing, fantastic... indescribable.

If you like new adult, romance, chick lit, or any sort of hot cowboy, pick up this book from When I'm Gone, or start at the beginning of the series, Fallen Too Far. Your choice, but I can promise you'll most likely love it if you've previously liked Abbi Glines, Colleen Hoover, or Jamie McGuire.

I feel there wasn't much things happened. It's like I keep waiting for some conflict to happen but nah. I still love the characters. Mase and Reese are such a great couple but I'm a bit underwhelmed of how it turns out though it's a HEA. Also there are some points in this book that doesn't have any closure.

Still, Mase is a sexy cowboy to drool on. bwahaha!

I liked this one, truly. But WTF is up with that ending?!?! I feel like Abbi Glines forgot to add the rest of it in there. It just abruptly stops. How frustrating! Especially considering how much these books cost when I first purchased them. If it hadn't been for the first book in these characters relationship and the way things happened between Mase and Reese then I would have given this a one star. I just can't stand when a book feels unfinished even though it actually is.

I will keep this review short because it's an older title, but regardless of my little rant above, the relationship between Reese and Mase is one of my favorites of the series. They just feel like a genuinely good couple together and I liked seeing the character growth through both books. I also liked how Abbi made the characters seems real by using realistic scenarios and emotional drama.

If you haven't read the series then be aware that prior to reading this one you NEED to read When I'm Gone first as it is the start of Reese and Mase's relationship and this is the finale. However, I urge all new readers to follow the series in order because all of the characters are interconnected. Many show up in all of the books (past and present).

The first book in Mase and Reese's story didn't end how I'd expected it to in terms of the big cliffy's we are so used to getting with the Rosemary beach crew. In fact I'd go so far as to say I thought their story was complete since it appeared they'd got their HEA but how wrong was I. Very early on in "When you're back," I saw small cracks begin to appear in this couple's relationship. Mace wanted nothing more than to wrap Reese up in cotton wool and protect her from the big bad world but Reese had grown up, grown stronger and grown wiser and was ready to face the world head on. She was desperate for some form of independence and wanted to stand on her own two feet and i honestly couldn't fault her for that. She was facing her demons and was determined to make a success of her life.
"Don’t let you weakness define you, Reese. Ever. Your strengths should define you.”

On top of that, there were external forces hell bent on ensuring a blissful life for Reese and Mace was to a possibility. Aida (Mace's cousin) drive me crackers. She was the bitch from hell and gave Nan a real run for her money. This woman would stop at nothing to ensure the couple's relationship was a failure and her wining, moaning and belittling of Reese mad me want to slap her. and then there was the elusive River (Captain) Kipling... who was this man and why was he hell bent on meddling in the couple's affairs. I couldn't work out his motives and was desperate to know if he was friend or foe. what I did know was that he was definitely stirring the pot, ensuring that insecurities and jealousy reared their heads on both sides which made me wonder if this couple's relationship would stand the test of time.
I wasn't sure which was worse, loving and losing or not ever knowing that kind of love at all.

Reese's character remained as adorable as ever and even though she had insecurities, she was now able to face them head on. And Mace was every girl's dream. He remained all alpha and protective of his woman but even he had insecurities which made him all the more relatable.

"When you're Back" gave me sweet times, funny times, macho alpha male times and even heart breaking times but I loved all of it. There was enough drama to sink my teeth into and a story line that had me hooked. The only down side was that I was desperate for more from the epilogue. It wasn't as sweet as I had wanted it to be and it kinda ended with a cliffy but it didn't but it did because of the final revelation to Mace. What would he do with that bit of info?
She was kind. She was honest. More important, she was mine. I’d found her. I’d found the one. The one who would change my world.

As always, I loved catching up with the Rosemary Beach posse even though (for the most part) this book was set in Dallas and we even got to see more of Kiro and Emily too. Another job well done Abbi. I cannot wait for the final three books in this series... Captain, Nan and Dean are all getting their stories told... woo hoo!!!!

I rated "When you're Back" ❤️❤️❤️❤️

This is a continual of Mase and Reese’s story and should be read after When I’m Gone.

I have loved following this series and reading about these characters from the start. I was excited to get a hold of this one, but I wondered where it was going to go when everything seemed to wrap up so well for Mase and Reese in When You’re Gone aside from the surprise visitor at the end.

As we progress in When You’re Back Reese is back from her trip loves her new family and is ready to start her relationship with Mase.

When she gets to Texas she finds Mase spending time with Aida, his cousin. Reese does not trust Aida from the start, but she does trust in Mase and his love for her. It becomes apparent that Aida is jealous of the time that Mase spends with Reese and she is doing everything she can to get Mase’s attention.
In my opinion the storyline changing up with Aida was not needed. I would of better understood an issue arising with Cordelia than the one we got with Aida. I think Aida and the storyline of her being in love with Mase was unnecessary.

Then we have Captain, who is trying his hardest to cause issues for Mase and Reese as well. I’m not sure what I thought exactly about Captain. He was arrogant and surely needed to be put into his place as well.
"I can change your world, too, sweetheart. But I'll wait my turn."

Over all I found there to be a lot of filler in this one. A lot of unnecessary drama to just fill in the story line. I will say this though, just because it was not a favorite of mine, If you have followed this series from the start you will want to read this one as well for the information it has.

I look forward to reading The Best Goodbye and hopefully understanding Captain a little bit more.

I'm just going to sit here and pretend that Abbi didn't write this because it was a huge hot mess. I honestly didn't think it'd be so terrible but Abbi Glines really did not need to write this book. When I'm Gone ended nicely enough to be a standalone.

I had so many problems with this entire novel. First off, Reese is a woman who was sexually abused as a child and hates intimacy. She's has sex one (in When I'm Gone) and then all of a sudden she has no fears and loves sex. Abbi Glines is normally pretty dramatic but I guess she's also incredibly lazy in not researching.

Ugh!
