Gray Back Bears #2

Gray Back Alpha Bear

Rate this book
Creed Barnett has one simple rule—no potential mates allowed in his territory. As if there isn’t enough on his shoulders trying to manage his crew of misfit, broken bear shifters, his past is now coming back to haunt him. And when the woman he hasn’t been able to stop thinking about for the past five months shows up in his trailer park, he’s re-thinking all the rules he set up to protect the Gray Backs. Gia is a curvy stunner, but his interest in the bombshell goes deeper than her good looks. She’s sweet, and fun, and puts his inner bear at ease in a way no other woman has managed. But Gia has also brought trouble to his territory that will turn his life upside down.

Gia Cromwell’s life is ruined. She’s lost everything she used to value about herself and has nowhere to turn but to the man who started her downfall in the first place. She fully expects the sexy, reclusive bear shifter to turn her away just like everyone else in her life, but when he offers to be her protector instead, she’ll have to fight hard to keep her walls up. She knows she isn’t Creed’s true mate, but that doesn’t stop her huge crush. How can she not fall head over heels for him? Creed is easy on the eyes, sure, but he has a heart of gold and a protective streak a mile wide for the people he cares about. Now she just has to figure out whether his interest is genuine, or if they’re both in this for all the wrong reasons.

Content Warning: explicit love scenes, naughty language, and piles of sexy shifter secrets.

Who would have ever thought I would find Trailer Park Bears fascinating? Well, the way T.S. Joyce writes them, you simply can’t put the books down!

The Trailer Park Bears truly do live in trailer parks. Broken-down singlewides, parked in the middle of the forest, where Dragon Shifter Damon Daye has brought them in to clear trees devastated by bug infestations. The TPB’s series is actually more than one series. The first tells the story of the Saw Back Bears, this second series is all about the Gray Backs. While the Ashe crew, the stars of the Saw Bears series, is the “A Team” of lumberjacks, well, the Gray Back crew is, as Alpha Creed puts it, “The C Team”. Rowdy, constantly battling, and constantly covered in blood, the Gray Backs are a misfit band of dominant bears. Broken dominant bears. Creed the alpha, Matt the man-ho, Clinton and Jason the goofballs. And then there is Easton, a bear so broken he can’t stand to live close to the others – and can’t seem to stop fighting, even when it might mean his death. A broken clan with a brutal and savage history, they are the clan that nobody wants to mess with.

Book one was Matt’s story. Now, book two takes us deeper into Creed’s story. Determined that there will be NO, absolutely, positively NO! females in his park, he was set back on his heel when Willa, Matt’s mate, blew into the park. Now, Gia is here, and Creed is wholly determined that she won’t change how he lives his life.

Honestly, this one sort of let me down. There were too many missing parts, too many unlikely ‘surprises’. Don’t get me wrong – I love Ms. Joyce’s Trailer Park Bears. But I hope the next is more pulled together than this one. It felt too rushed. Maybe a publishing deadline? However that may be, watch for my review of Gray Back #3, Gray Back Ghost Bear.

Very good series

I was shocked how sweet Gia really is. Creed is my favorite of the Gray Backs. Willa is so funny. There are some scenes that made me laugh. I feel bad for Easton because he takes everything so negative and worries.

This is a really sweet shifter series. This book was no exception. No.unnecessary drama or angst just an easy light shifter romance read. my only complaint is I wanted a bit more....This series seems to end on.a HFN closure rather than HEA. I would have liked It to have read more like a complete story. still a cute and charming series that I'm likely to continue.

What Is It About:
Willa's ex-friend Gia shows up at the trailer park disgraced, broke and pregnant. She needs Creed's help to raise their kid but Creed is just as broken as his crew and isn't good enough to have a mate or family. Gia's there to help Creed realise he's good but his demons may be stronger than she can deal with.

What I Liked and Didn't:
I liked the fact that Joyce turned Gia into a three-dimensional character. Gia could have been left as a superficial, slutty bitch of a character but this book shows that perceptions per character can change. Gia's actually a sweet, somewhat naive woman that was dragged into the manipulative friendships just like Willa was. Creed was a bit of a gruff character, he's sweet with Gia but I don't know how I feel about him in other aspects. I liked his little pep talk in the previous book to Willa though so he seems like an alright dude.
Plot-wise, it's them dealing with their child and how Gia "fixes" Creed. The baby aspect wasn't too unique with the more dramatic versions like Diem's but Creed's demons are certainly dramatic. I felt a lot of sympathy for him about his Mum's actions but I don't think his issues would be solved as simply as they are. Contrary to the saying, Love doesn't conquer all.

Final Thoughts:
It wasn't a particularly bad book but considering that Willa's book was my favourite, this book couldn't have lived up to it even with Willa's awesomeness throughout the book.
Would I recommend it? Sure, I've enjoyed the whole series.
Will I be carrying on the series? Oh yeah, I working through to Easton's happy ending.

Disappointed

I'm an avid fan of Ms. Joyce and I've read every single one of her books. This one is so lacking that I thought maybe it wasn't her. This story between Gia and Creed is very much lacking. How does Creed NOT know Gia is his mate? All the others knew their mates within moments, days even, but Creed doesn't know until she returns pregnant?
We never hear how the conversation between Willa and her father went (though this should've been written in Willa and Matt's story) and seriously?!? Damon Daye is Creed's grandfather and the dragon NEVER thought to mention it until AFTER Creed accidentally got Gia pregnant? Smh... Damon opened up more since his daughter's book and this should've come out sooner and Creed just nicely accepts this fact because he's "suspected" but thought he had no family left in the world.
Ms. Joyce, slow down and gets through the books in detail. Yes, we love your writing but we want a complete story, not a half ass rushed one where it looks so green and juvenile that we question your works as a writer.

Okay, So I really enjoyed bad ass Willa in the last story and I feel like it's hard to follow that. So this one kind of had me on the fence. I liked Creed and Gias story but it wasn't my favorite. I felt a bit disjointed for some reason and didn't feel that strong pull between H&h.

Anyway, still not a bad read to get to know the Alpha, Gia and more about the Gray Backs. It sparked my interest in Easton and I REALLY want his story.

Not TS Joyce's best series. This one was just, eh, ok. And the cover, OH MY GOD THE COVER. How is that even in any way, shape or form attractive???? nope. nope. nope.

Gia was interesting, I liked her more at the end of the book than the start. I did like that even though Gia felt like she had lost everything she still sought Creed out for help. Sure things were rocky for them at the start, but once each of them started talking and telling the truth they realized how much they had in common and how much both wanted more.

I loved that when Gia thought she would only have Creed around she found out her friend Willa was there. Willa is a bit weird, in the best way, and was the perfect person to help guide Gia through the new changes in her life.

The ending to this one was perfect, loved how the crew took a moment to be happy and think about the future.

I love how emotionally stunted Creed is. He just doesn’t know what to do with all of his feelings and the way he gets so soft and vulnerable for Gia is adorable.

Reviewed at Shifter Haven

Creed is about to lose control of his “no potential mates in the trailer park” rule once again – and this time he has only himself to lay the responsibility on. His one night stand, one of the bombshells that had tricked Willa into this shifter groupie trip, was well worth the night of passion they shared. Sure, there had been that condom malfunction, but since he’d heard nothing so far he hadn’t thought about it too much. He had tried to not think about Gia too much either. He had his work cut out for him with his crew of misfit bears, so free thinking time was not on the top of his priority list. Keeping everyone alive and functioning was. His crew was full of bears who were all dominant and broken in some fashion – some even he didn’t know the reasons behind. They all came to the Gray Back crew as a last chance effort before an Alpha would have put them down for their actions and their personal damage. Creed was their last hope, but that didn’t stop the ruckus and posturing and fighting that was a daily thing. So, yeah, he had his hands full and wasn’t looking to add anything else to that huge pile.

Until a broken Gia showed up on his doorstep and his life changed forever in that one moment. Her wealthy, uptight parents, the so called society friends, the right people to be around – they all turned their backs on her just when she’d needed them the most. She’d never fit in with her family but had tried her best to be what they wanted her to be – and now they did this. Fine, she’d go to the one place that still held hope in her mind, to the one man who just might not turn her away, she hoped.

Gray Back Alpha Bear gives us a closer look at this crew of misfit bears and their leader. Creed is such a contradiction himself. He wants the family, the connection that Matt and Willa have now as mates, but he’s too uncertain of his own background to even try for that. But with Gia back in his life, a new life beginning, he needs to get his head on straight and do what’s best for everyone – including himself. Willa is the unofficial star of the Gray Back crew, her unique look on life, her banter and sass make her an unforgettable character and one very loved one as well. Creed will receive even more startling news, something he has long suspected and that will once again put his life in a spin. Throughout it all is Gia, steady yet uncertain of her place in his life – she is an anchor that he needs. Why he didn’t sense that Gia was his mate during that first night is a mystery, but he acknowledges her now and nothing will separate them again.

I enjoyed Gray Back Alpha Bear – and since I’m ending up doing these reviews in a backwards manner due to a binge reading without immediate reviews (bad girl don’t do that again)… I know what and who this child will be – and the important part they have to play in the future. For me that is part of the enjoyment of such a large overlapping, connected series – you know people and their background and where they came from as the books progress. That is one reason why I love this series.

If you love Shifter Romance than this story and this series should be on your reading list. I would highly recommend Gray Back Alpha Bear and this series with the hope that you’ll enjoy it just as much.

Creed and Gia. I did not expect to like this one, as Gia was one of the 3 self absorbed b*tchy friends of Willa's from the first book. But Gia is more than she seemed and is now in dire straits. Willa isn't one to hold a grudge and promises to help her. I loved Willa in this book and her relationship with Matt. It almost overshadowed Creed's romance with Gia. Well Gia and Creed suffered a broken condom several months ago, and now Gia is back to let him know. Creed is happy to see her at first but then makes an ass of himself. There's more to Creed as well. The story is mostly them getting to know each other better. That sounds boring, but really it was sweet. Guess there's hope for the Grayback yet!

Brilliant

I was pulled into this book right from the get go, until I had read the last word written, all threshold watching the story play out in my head.
There are both big and small surprises all the way through the book, some you will see coming and others you won't. But every single one makes the book a fantastic read.
I went through every single emotion that the characters went through at the same time as them. But I wouldn't have it any other way.
I did get frustrated a time or two with some of the characters, but they all redeemed themselves.
If you shifter books and you haven't read T.S. Joyce you should really give them ago, I don't think you would regret.
I highly recommend this author and her books.

Very good. In the previous Gray Back Bears book, the heroine met the hero and had a sexy night. Then her vacation was done and she went home. At the start of the story, she is back--and she is pregnant with the Alpha's bear shifter child. At first he doesn't handle it well, but it all comes together in a very satisfying way. We also see some growth in some of our other characters, and I love that.
If you haven't read the Saw Bears books, or the first book in this series, you will enjoy it, but I recommend reading them first.

it's not a good sign that halfway through the book when the heroine thinks to herself that she's falling in love with the hero, my reaction is surprise. they don't really interact much, and least not about anything except pregnancy and their upcoming baby. the surprise baby trope (or any baby trope) isn't my cup of tea anyway, so it makes sense this doesn't get a higher rating from me.

I enjoyed this addition to the series. Like the other bears in his crew, Creed has his own scars, but Gia arrives and confronts not only her problems but helps Creed with his.

A shifter romance story, not cookie cutter copy with its unique spin while supporting building one up not tearing them down.

Creed the Alpha leader of his own crew. He has all make team of shifters that had an unspeakable paste and survived. There were no love got arms to nurture & heal them, they are still struggling. With emotional unsettled shifters the goid, bad and ugly and a lot of bear battles occurs. One ventures out and brings home his father mates that is against the rules because they battle one another how can they secure someone else? One brings in a fated mate heavy consequences of use and then some mending. Creed has a one night he can't forget and Gia returns to speak with Creed he is scared to death but doesn't want her to leave. Through this meetings it reveals how those that love is can cause the most damage. His & Creed both have had people put them down and say things to demean them. However it is so wonderful to finally hear positive re-enforcement . A perfect story for those not from the Norman Rockwell family she has scars to prove it. Love truly heal all things.

I wanted to like this more than I did. I think it started solid. Although I didn't like Gia in the last book, she was fine in this one....But to be fair, she's pretty much a different character altogether.

I usually like surprise pregnancy books, and I think Creed's initial reaction could have led to some interesting drama. Unfortunately, this whole thing just feels too quick and easy. Creed doesn't want Gia and the baby to stay, and then the next day, he wants her to move to their trailer park. He doesn't want a mate, and then the next day, he starts thinking of Gia as his mate. He's terrified of water, and then the next day he's trying to swim with Gia. There's just not enough time to make these things have an impact. And the "love you's" were way too soon. There wasn't any build-up to make this feel like a relationship.

I did like both the characters, and I really liked Creed's backstory. The writing is solid, just like all of Joyce's books, but I just think this was too short for the story to be developed as well as it could have been.

Thanks for the read!!!..💜💚💜

sunlight above. A second of panic was settled by one thought. A girl. Gia was giving him a little girl. Creed steeled himself and swam hard under the waterfall, then came up on the other side. The gentle side with the wet boulders to relax on and the slippery rock cliff that jutted straight up. The side he’d dreamed of swimming to since the day he’d first seen Bear Trap Falls. She was waiting for him—his Gia. Sitting on the edge of the rocks, her feet in the water, long, damp hair trailing down her shoulders, bare belly beautiful in her bathing suit, she smiled at him the moment he broke the surface. He’d forbidden women in his territory, then broke his own rules, and something strange and unexpected had happened. A woman had made him into a stronger man. He swam to Gia and pushed up on the rock until he could look into those beautiful, tear-rimmed eyes of hers.

This is the second book in the Gray Back Bears series. Creed is the Alpha on the Gray Backs. He is about to get quiet the surprise. Gia has come back with a surprise for Creed. Gia was one of the girls that tricked Willa into coming on a camping trip with them instead of going to the beach. Now she has lost everything because of decisions made on that trip. She may have really gained so much more than she realized though. Creed is a fantastic alpha for his crew. They have been through some tough times lately but things may be looking up for them. Creed had banned possible mates from the trailer park but things will cause him to second guess that decision. May be mates would be the best thing for this crew. Another fantastic book by T.S. Joyce. I can’t wait to read the next book and see who finds their mate next. I highly recommend all of T.S. Joyce’s books.

Oh lord the condom broke!

Creed and Gia characters are awesome. I have been working my way through the authors early works after falling in love with the later ones.
This book I believe is the turning point. The others were good, read in parts. But this one had a depth that the others only scratched.
Loved how Creeds past was explained and how their relationship developed from bucket list and quickie to OMG WE ARE PREGNANT!
Only had a few minor bits, like her having no money, no fitting clothes, but had a Mercedes? Parents might have drained bank account (which I don’t think they can legally do after 19 anymore) but she had what I expect fancy bags, clothes, shoes, jewelry that was probably worth a lot. They wouldn’t care if she took them with her. Not to mention, since it was old money family, sure she had trust funds, grandparents, others that would have helped.

Wow! Hot shifter action in a well written story - Highly Recommend!

For adults only (18+ years old). Contains subject matter that may be offensive or a trigger for some, including adult language, steamy intimate scenes and violence.

This is the 2nd story in the Gray Back Bears series. While it could be read as a standalone story, I recommend reading in order for maximum enjoyment.

Creed is the alpha of the pack and struggles with demons from his past. He hooked up with Gia (one of the "bombshells" as Willa called her 3 former friends) and he thinks about her often in the five months since. Then unexpectedly Gia is there at their trailer park ... And she is pregnant with his cub ...

If you like a man that is willing to face his darkest fears to try and build a future with his mate, then I highly recommend this story and series.
