This isn't a review, it's a rant and it's full of spoilers. There are plenty of reviews of this book all around and I don't feel like writing another one. BUT I do need to get this anger off my chest, so here I go...
First off, let me say that I was warned about the crappy ending of this book beforehand. I wasn't thrilled about it, but I was willing to give Ms. Ward the chance to prove me that she had pulled it off in a satisfying way when all was said and done. Well, she didn't... at least, not where I'm concerned. Yeah, I know this is PNR and a ghost shouldn't be that strange in this scenario, but the oops-I-didn't-see-you-and-I-stepped-through-you freaked me out. Maybe I could have gone along with that if I didn't care much for Jane, but I liked her and felt that she got the shaft. What was wrong with Ms. Ward? The 1st time she gave us a BDB heroine with a spine, she kills her in the end! Not only that, she takes her spine off first, turns her into a clingy mess, then kills her. :( Is Ms. Ward so jealous of her Brothers that she had to smash the competition? I don't care that Jane and V were more than happy with her "fate" as it was, because I didn't buy it. The whole thing felt more like settling than a true HEA.
In my mind, V and Jane's romance was doomed from the start. As the story opened, he was still pretty much in love with Butch and jealous of the other man's shellan Marissa, so it was a shock to see how fast he fell for Jane. In fact, "fast" doesn't begin to describe it. I was glad to see him getting over Butch, because the last thing I wanted was to watch V pining over Butch over and over again like he did in Lover Revealed, but I didn't like the way Ward handled that. As for V's sexual kinkiness, I admit I was leery of it after reading the previous book because I'm not into BDSM. Once again, Ward gave V an instant character change and V's alleged Dom nature fell apart in Jane's hands. I admit I didn't miss seeing V in full Dom behavior since that isn't my cuppa, but I have to say that Ward failed to deliver what she'd hinted in the previous books.
May I rant about the other characters too? Oh boy, where to start?...
The Scribe Virgin - I loathe the
Phury - I still don't like him very much - his depression is, well, depressing - but I'm starting to feel sorry for him. Sorry, not pity. He's constantly "abused" by his Brothers, IMHO. He gives and gives and gives, then gives some more - and no one reaches a hand to help him. They know he loves Z's shellan Bella, but do they care? No. Z and Bella keep haunting him, asking him to help them go through some bumps in their "marriage" (I forgot what Ward calls it) without thinking how hurtful that must be to poor Phury. No wonder he turns into drugs for relief, which is another example of how little his Brothers care about him. They just sit back and let him sink deeper and deeper. There's no intervention, no tough love, nada.
Cormia - I'm on the fence about her. She's too innocent, frail and submissive, which can be explained by her being a Chosen but is still annoying. She reminds me of Marissa in her spineless days before she mated with Butch and that isn't a good thing, but who knows, Ward can give her a character change in the next book.
JM - What's happening to him? I'm not sure I like him posttrans and I definitely don't like him with Xhex because they don't fit, IMHO. I do like the Darius' connection, though. Will we ever find out what ties them together?
Qhuinn & Blaylock - JM's buddies' sole purpose in the story is to protect JM - at least, so far. Qhuinn's a manwhore and I'm sorry he can't catch any STD. Blaylock is sweet and I really hope he can find someone else to love. A gay man, if you please. Do you hear me, Ward?
Tohr - Where is he??? Isn't it time he came back yet?
As for the overal story, this book had good and bad parts. What I liked the most was the total absence of the Omega, whatever recruiter he had in charge at the moment and the mandatory new lesser-in-training. Sure, there were lessers around doing their nasty thing just to keep the Brothers busy and set the stage for the unfortunate HEA, but their scenes were more "connected" to the story this time. They had a purpose. In the previous books, every fight scene seemed the same and it only served to show how invincible the Brothers were. That isn't so true anymore, and that was good.
I also liked the development of the overall story arc - some surprises there! - even though Ward could have given V a better mother. I felt sorry for V, but that was an interesting twist in the story. And to think that his mother didn't content herself with playing havoc with his life... *shudders*
So, am I going to keep reading this series? As of now, no, but I might change my mind in the future. I do want to read Father Mine: Zsadist and Bella's Story, though.

"She. Comes. With. Me."-V
Lover Unbound, the 5th book in the BDB series was great. I would have gave it 5 stars if not for Phury. Truly that Brother rubs me the wrong way every time he is on the page. And he had too many pages in this book. I know his book is next, but man I could've done with a lot less Phury. Anyways V and Jane's story was sweet, kinky, and very angsty. In this book there was a lot of different povs as J.R. Ward tends to jump from story line to story line almost like a soap. You get half a chapter of this couple then it shoots to another or this other brother, or the lessers etc. And while that kind of layout doesn't really bother me it was really pronounced in this book compared to the last 4 so it took some getting use too.

"You are my son." V stopped breathing, his chest going concrete on him. Surely she meant that in the broader sense. "Three hundred and three years ago you were born of my body." The Scribe Virgin's hood rose off her face of its own volition, revealing a ghostly, ethereal beauty. "Lift thy so-called cursed palm and know our truth." Heart in his throat, V brought up his gloved hand, then ripped the leather off with messy tugs. In horror he stared at what was behind his tattooed skin: The glow in him was just like hers.-Scribe Virgin
Poor Vishous had some real mommy issues in this book. Never knowing who his mother was boy was he shocked when the Scribe Virgin came to him and let him know that she was in fact his birth mother, and that she was going to make him her "Primale". The Primale is the male that is mated to all the chosen, lives in the fade, and has to make babies with all his 40 or so mates. Like a stud bull or something. And she didn't care one bit that he didn't want to be her breed stud. So he was understandably pissed at mommy dearest. Also as V's past with this father the bloodletter is revealed and you find out the horrid torture he endure while his mother did nothing, yea she wasn't smelling like roses at all. V had some major emotional issues from his past. I loved the way he let Jane in and showed her the real him. Even as close as he was with Butch she and him just clicked. Jane was this amazing human surgeon. She saved V when he landed in her er with a stab wound and a gun shot to the chest. Jane didn't have the greatest of lives but she was smart as hell and made something of herself. What I really loved about Jane was that she didn't look like most heroines. She had short hair, glasses, flatter body and was more on the plain or average side when it came to her looks. I also loved that even though she wasn't a knockout she was totally comfortable and confident in her skin. She knew who she was, what she wanted, and her worth. I also really liked how open minded she was. She was calm under pressure, was wholly accepting, and supportive of her male.

Vishous is one kinky motherfucker. I loved the fact that even though V and Jane had kinky sex they made love as well. Something V had never done with anyone else. Jane and V really just kinda click like missing puzzle pieces that go together. I know a lot of readers are fans of Butch and V and wished they would have gotten together but I always just seen them as brothers and best friends so I was glad that the Warden didn't put them together. I was glad that Phury stepped up for V and became the primale. I was hoping that he would be able to redeem himself in the act but instead he just brought Cormia over here to a place where she doesn't know anything. She doesn't know how to use a phone, where to get food, how the simplest of things work. She was completely alone, scared shitless, and overwhelmed and he just pretty much abandoned her so he could go back to doing his drugs and lusting after his brother's wife Bella. I already didn't care for Phury from the way he acted like his brother Z was ruined but in this book my feelings for him started leaning towards dislike and I am so not looking forward to his book. Now John Matthew.... I want his book bad! I loved all the bonding him and Z have been doing. I also loved how Z really stepped up with teaching the classes and with JM. I really enjoyed the fact that this book was lesser pov free. Overall this book was a good addition to the series, but not one of my favorites.

The story
Vishous is constantly tortured by the same nightmare, and it's driving him insane. He has stopped sleeping altogether and everyone has noticed V being on the edge.
He's still pining after Butch, and it's killing him to see Butch and Marissa so happy, while he is all alone, as always.
After he is forced to take the position of the Primale by the Scribe Virgin, V goes out and gets attacked by some lessers, and ultimately shot in the chest.
That gets him to the hospital where Jane works :DDD
She's an excellent surgeon and saves his life, even though she is shocked by his totally different anatomy.
When the brothers come to get him out, V knows he has to take Jane with them. She is HIS!
There was a moment of silence. And then in a rough voice, the man whose life she saved spoke four words that changed everything…changed her life, changed her destiny:
“She. Comes. With. Me.”
The story - totally loved it, even though most of the book was character development, there weren't many things happening here, but learning more about V and seeing him falling in love was great :)
The center of the book is V's continuous nightmare, we know something bad is going to happen and it's the most intense thing in the book, especially when it actually happens. :((((((
The characters - again, there is a lot of John Matthew and his friends, Blay and Qhuinn in this one :) they are going through their transformations and we see how it affects them :)
Xhex and John have met for the first time eheheh :D

There is a HUGE intro for Phury's book 6, we meet the heroine too.
What else...
We find out more about the Scribe Virgin, and personally, it doesn't make me like her much. Oh well.
The sex - V is supposedly a Dom, but honestly, I didn't get all that from him. What I did get is that he's into bondage and domination, but being a Dom requires a bit more than just liking kinky sex. Or am I wrong? I'm not into the lifestyle so I can't say for 100%, but here, he just used the kinky sex to get off, and to ease his frustrations, without any care for the subs he used. But oh well maybe that's just me, trying to romanticize the whole BDSM thing. I don't know.
Anyway, I loved the few scenes that were in the book, very hot and sexy, especially the SINK SCENE!!! Hottest sex scene from the entire series!!!! Still, not enough sexy times in this book :(((

The book starts with Jane in her childhood, right before her sister dies. That's what made her want to become a doctor and save lives.
One night in the ER, she treats a patient who's been shot in the chest, and finds out that he's something different. With unusual anatomy and ability to heal, he fascinates her.
Until his friends come and kidnap her in order to continue treating him for his injuries :DDD
She doesn't like being bossed around and, well, being kidnapped LOL but for some strange reason she trusts V not to hurt her :)
She falls for him pretty fast (well, it's V we're talking about), and doesn't want to leave him :(
“The truth is, self-preservation is a good thing and it should dictate my reactions.”
“And it doesn’t?”
“Not…always. With you, not always.”
His lips lifted a little. “Then for once in my life, I’m glad I’m different.”
“I’m scared.”
He grew instantly serious, his diamond-bright eyes meeting hers. “Don’t be. I won’t hurt you. And I won’t let anything else either.”
Jane is a pretty awesome heroine :D
She has a very strong character, wicked sense of humor, and isn't one for drama.
She's very intelligent, I loved that, she drew conclusions by herself *gasp* and figured stuff out solo :)))
Their love affair did seem like a big insta-love, even though almost all books here have the insta-love, but for me, she kinda fell too fast for him. But it was redeemed later on, I won't say how cause it would be a spoiler, but they did have some great moments :)))))
The ending... I know many people HATE the ending, but I really understand it. This is book five, and almost all combinations have been used on how to make them both together forever. I know this isn't an ideal situation, but it works, and I'm still glad they got their HEA :))

Vishous still has feelings for Butch and he hates himself for it.
The constant nightmares and lack of sleep aren't a big help, he's going crazy bit by bit, being nervous all the time and unable to concentrate on anything.
Even though he cursed his visions before, now he's scared being without them.
The Scribe Virgin forces him to take the position of Primale, to basically be a sperm donor to revive the vampire race.
After the shooting, he is treated by Jane, and he feels the urge to make her HIS! He doesn't understand it because he never felt it before, but he can't help it so he kidnaps her :DDD
Oh and I forgot, his past! OMG it's so terrible :((((((
He equals Z on being a tortured hero, I really really feel bad for him :( No wonder he never opened himself up to anyone, well, until Jane :)
Anyway, the rest of the book is V dealing with falling in love with Jane and knowing he's gonna have to delete all her memories after she's done treating him.

It's like this whole book is a "feel bad for V" emotion inducing thing :D It totally worked because i felt for him from page one, well, from several hundred MINUS pages cause I felt for him in the previous books too! But learning about what happened to him... OMG! Awful, and after he found out who his mother is! I would hate her! Totally! And then making his life even more miserable by forcing him to become the Primale! Just one bad thing after another :(
With Jane, he finally starts to have feelings for someone (besides Butch), and he falls in love, even though he knows he shouldn't.
In this book he makes love for the first time, with emotions and intense feelings, not jut to get off, that was such a wonderful scene.
The hot chocolate cup on the counter!
OMG it was so sad I cried! Again! Very very emotional, I felt bad for both of them :(((
And the ending! I think it's even more emotional than in Z's book, and that's saying something!!

I talked about their ending in Jane's section and I'm not gonna repeat it, I don't mind how it all worked out :)
And BTW, V and Butch had a few convos here that I really loved <3 they got everything out in the open :) I'd still love to see them together, but I'm not disappointed by how V ended up :) He's happy, and Jane's pretty great :))))
Butch was quiet for a time. Then he said, “I think that’s why I like Jane.”
“Huh?”
“When you look at her? You actually see her, and when’s the last time that’s happened for you?”
V geared himself up, then stared hard into Butch’s eyes. “I saw you. Even though it was wrong. I saw you.”
Shit, he sounded sad. Sad and…lonely.

Verily, the sink scene is the hottest ever :)

Vishous is now my favorite member of the brotherhood... TRUE!

I loved Vishous, I loved Jane, I just LOVED this book!!!!!
Things have been ‘off’ with Vishous for a while now. His visions have dried up. He’s not sleeping well, having nightmares. And to top it off, he has feelings for his roommate, Butch, who is mated to Marissa. V copes by drinking Goose, and going to his penthouse for some fun.
His ‘birthday’ is coming up. The big 303. We find that its significant for V. Because of his parents and he is expected to become the Primale of his species. Basically he will be mated with multiple members of the chosen to procreate for the race. Its complicated.
While V is out one night, he finds himself in some trouble with some lessers. He gets shot in the chest. Before one of his brothers finds him, someone calls an ambulance and he gets taken to the local hospital where Dr. Jane Whitcomb saves his life.
Jane is a spitfire. She is independent, tough, and spunky. She is smart and has a great sense of humor. And she is head of the trauma department at the hospital. She is a surgeon and she is good at her job. When the brother’s pick V up from the hospital, they are wiping memories of the staff. They get to Jane, and V stops them. For some reason, the he gets a vision. The word ‘Mine’ pops in his head and he has the brothers take her with them.
“She. Comes. With. Me.”
Jane is not happy to be at there, but she still takes care of V. She is a doctor. Thats just what she does. Even when Phurry runs in to some trouble, she helps him. The more time she spends with Vishous, she starts to realize she is safe with him. He is not the monster she thought he was. Even when she figures out what he is, she’s not afraid. She knows he won’t hurt her.
V and Jane open up to each other. V knows Jane will only be there until he is fully healed, then he will have to wipe her memory and let her go. Because of this, he finds himself opening up even more to her. Telling her things he has never told anyone before. The things we find out about Vishous and hsi upbringing broke my heart. I know Z had it really bad, but so did V. Makes me so sad.
Vishous starts to fall for Jane. Even though she knows its not smart, she can’t help the feelings she is developing for him. The two of them together... SMOKING HOT!
I loved Jane’s reaction the first time they were together...
“You overwhelmed me... but in the way that if I had a good girlfriend I would call her up and be like, ‘Oh, my God I just had the best sex of my life!’”
Things are different for Vishous and Jane then the other couples. Not only is Jane human, but she is a surgeon. She has a life she cannot easily give up. But Vishous needs her. He loves her. She is his. It’s just everything is so complicated. With Jane’s job, V having to become the primale. It’s a lot. I was shocked with how the book ended. I wouldn’t say it was a bad ending, not necessarily the ending I would have chosen, but not a bad ending either
Things I LOVED about this book:
Jane and Vishous together... Loved it!
John Matthew- I was happy we got so much of him in this book! I can’t wait for his book!
Qhuinn and Blay- I just love those two <3
Zsadist... A lot of Zsadist, can’t go wrong with that!
Lack of lessers!!! - Yay! Less from their pov!!!
Phurry- I hadn’t really had much of a connection with Phurry, so I was worried I wouldn’t love his book. I was glad I connected with him in this one. I loved

Butch and Vishous- Even though I was team V and Butch and I love the idea of them together, I was happy that they got back to their fun, easy going friendship. The two of them together are just hilarious!

“Good, I’m glad we agree. Hey, maybe I could have a talk show since you aren’t going to be my June Cleaver anymore. I could call it the O’Neal hour. Sounds important, doesn’t it?”

“Screw that. No way I would ever bottom for you.”
Not much I didn’t like about this book! I’ve said it before and I’m sure I will say it again- I LOVE the brotherhood! These books are just incredible! I cried, I laughed, I cried some more... Fair warning: You will probably be an emotional wreck while reading this one, I know I was! I didn’t think it was possible, but I love Vishous even more after reading his story! Dare I say I love him even more than Z... I feel like after every book I have a new favorite, but really I just love them all!!! A must read series!

What is it about this series that gets me to love it more each time I read it? I keep reading the entire series over and over again - never getting bored but just more into it than ever. I can't keep away from these books and characters. Crazy!!! But so "true".
I may not have been crazy about Vishous in the beginning...but have grown to becoming just as obsessed with this gorgeous vampire like all those "V' fans out there...and believe me...there are zillions of them!!
Would Vishous have fallen so deeply in love with Jane if he was really in love with someone else???? Jane is perfect for him - she's intelligent, compassionate, caring and the first person he trusted enough to talk about himself and his life.
Apart from V being beyond sexy, dark and dangerous, cursed and gifted, intelligent and tortured - physically and emotionally, he was also the reason I had my very FIRST TASTE OF GREY GOOSE!!! And not forgetting that I love his "speak" - “You feel me?” "true"....i could go on and on.
The only thing that still bothers me is the fact that Jane, whilst being his mate, is not really human.

Lover Unbound is the 5th book in the Black Dagger Brotherhood series by JR Ward.
I have read all the previous books in the series and have mixed feelings about Vishous. His conflicting feelings towards Butch….which he hates himself for turned me off him a bit in the previous books.
So I was really happy when he found Jane, a doctor who saved his life and he falls in love with her. .….enough of his pining over Butch….funny how fast he falls in love even when he has such an intense lust for Butch!!!! But hey, this is just a story…right!!!!!
As I got more into the story, my feelings towards Vishous slowly began to change. What a broken man. A life filled with pain, cruelty, heartbreak, loss and loneliness . Discovering the truth about his birth, his mother (who put a curse on him) and terrible father (who tortured and almost castrated him)….I really felt so sorry for this guy….. No wonder he led such a depraved life….multiple sex with both men and women, indulging in S&M in his belief that it was the only way to deal with pain.
Of course Jane falls in love with this hot, gorgeous and sexy man. And he….well he’s attracted to her brain and body of course!!!!! And she is an eager initiator to his sexual games and toys!!!!!!
The only thing I really didn’t like …………..Why did Jane have to die???? Somehow her coming back as a ghost (thanks to the sacrifice Vishous made…..couldn’t his mother, the Scribe Virgin get her back as a human….she is after all a deity!!!!!).
After everything Vishous has endured in his life, he is still short-changed. I wanted to see him having some good given to him…but no……he has to do with the woman he loves in the form of a ghost!!!!!! How much more can this guy endure!!!!!!
There’s a lot happening in this story… more wicked Lessers. Phury’s depression and secret love and pining for Bella, Zhadist’s (his brother) wife, his offer to become Primale to the Chosen…..will he and Cormia, a beautiful innocent Chosen get it together>>….what will the Scribe Virgin do next???? …is John Mathews really into Xhex???? And yes I knew all along….John Mathews is he Darius’s son or incarnation???? And when are Qhuinn & Blaylock going to get it together???? Gay warriors….wow…how are the other alpha warriors going to take this I wonder?????
Guess I will have to wait for the next book!!!!!!!

I had read and greatly enjoyed the first four volumes of the Black Dagger Brotherhood series, but after seeing many negative ratings and reviews for Lover Unbound, I procrastinated about reading it. Admittedly, it's predecessor, Lover Revealed, had probably been my least favorite of the series thus far, and somehow I allowed all the low ratings to influence me into thinking that Lover Unbound was the worst book in the series to date. Well, after finally reading it, nothing could be further from the truth in my opinion. Lover Unbound is now in a virtual tie with Lover Awakened for my favorite book in the series. I readily admit that for sheer heart-stopping romance and passion, Lover Awakened and some of the other earlier books are superior, but for it's well-rounded story and advancement of the overall vampire world, Lover Unbound was absolutely spectacular to me. It is true that the romantic scenes and relationship building between the two main characters of this novel was somewhat scaled back when compared with the previous books in the series, and the love scenes are generally shorter and less descriptive as well. In spite of this though, J.R. Ward managed to create a deep bond between Vishous and Jane in a very short time that was both intellectual and emotional, and which I found to be very beautiful. Even with the more abbreviated scenes, they connected with each other and me as the reader in a way that some characters fail to do when the entire novel is all theirs. It is a very rare occurrence for a story to move me in such a deep and compelling way, but I found myself not just tearing up, but actually crying more than once throughout the book. By the same token, the occasional sharp, sarcastic humor make me smile or even laugh, though this definitely is still a dark read. For it to elicit such emotional responses from me, I know that it was very well-written.
I positively loved V and Jane. They are one of the most perfect, made-for-each-other couples I have ever read in a romance novel. It is probably because I am a geek married to a geek, but I felt connected with both characters on a very personal level. Vishous, like all of his brothers, is a wounded and tortured hero, but in a more extreme way than everyone else except Zsadist. Like Z, he has suffered unconscionable abuse, but at the hands of his own father, because of choices that his mother made. Add to that his absolute genius and his powerful gifts that in many ways are far more like a curse, and he is a truly misunderstood soul. Then, Jane came into his life and understood V in a way that no one else ever had except Butch. Jane is a brilliant woman in her own right who possesses many wonderful gifts as well. She is physically plain, but connected to V on the intellectual and emotional level that he so desperately longed for. It was like she intuitively knew exactly what he needed, as well as when and why. I completely adored Jane, because she was an incredibly confident and cerebral woman with a deeply compassionate side, which is pretty amazing considering how her family treated her growing up. Even though her talents had rightfully earned her a position as chief of the trauma department, she maintained a degree of humility by not thinking it beneath her to care for a patient's more personal needs, such as giving V a sponge bath, and she was always ready with a kind word or a gentle touch. In my opinion, these things made for a wonderful combination, giving Jane status as one of the most perfectly rendered heroines I have ever read. I especially enjoyed V and Jane's lighter moments of sharp-witted banter, but in whatever capacity they were interacting, I found them to be a superbly, ideal couple.
While I would have liked even more scenes with V and Jane, the cast of secondary characters was so fabulous, I can hardly complain. It seems that Ms. Ward is moving in the direction of beginning the development of relationships before those characters become the focus of their own book. Such was the case with Phury and Cormia, who are the hero and heroine of the next book, Lover Enshrined. Phury has always been the controlled gentleman of the Brotherhood, but he has slowly been coming unglued. In spite of that though, he not surprisingly still makes a huge sacrifice for V and the Brotherhood in general. Even though Cormia is first introduced in this story, I have already found her to be endearingly innocent, while also being curious and strong-willed. It will be interesting to watch her hopefully come into her own in the next book. I also enjoyed watching John Matthew grow and change in more ways than one. He had some really wonderful scenes in this story. There is a tentative connection developing between him and Xhex, as well as a deepening of his friendships with Zsadist, and with Qhuinn and Blaylock. It was really nice to see John starting to make connections and build a little confidence, even though he still feels like a freak. It was also interesting to learn a bit more about the history of the Scribe Virgin and the Chosen and their world on the Other Side. I have to admit to never having much of a liking for the Scribe Virgin in previous books and throughout most of Lover Unbound, I liked her even less. She has just always seemed rather selfish to me, but she did begin to redeem herself by the end in my opinion. In addition, all the remaining members of the Brotherhood, most of their shellans and some other secondary characters from past novels in the series make an appearance in some capacity giving this story a very extensive and well-rounded cast.
I know from all the low ratings that there are many things which some readers disliked about Lover Unbound, but there was very little that bothered me. Though I am not certain of all the specific complaints, I believe the ending was one of the biggest. I, however, had no real issues with it. While it was certainly not traditional in any way and I admit may take some getting used to even for me, it was definitely a happy one. I imagine that when an author is dealing with vampire/human relationships, there are only so many ways that the issue of a human's much shorter life-span can be addressed, and I thought that the way Ms. Ward approached it in Lover Unbound was a rather creative one. I also thought it was rather ingenious that she dropped subtle clues throughout the story as to where it was leading. The only thing that would have improved the ending for me would have been one more long romantic scene between V and Jane. One other thing that was not quite to my liking was the BDSM element, which simply isn't my cup of tea, but as it did not permeate the entire story and I understood the “why” behind the one scene that was played out more explicitly, I wasn't overly bothered by it. One element that I particularly appreciated was a spiritual/philosophical thread on pre-ordination versus free will, running throughout the story which culminated with some heavier rumination at the end. I really like books that make me think and Lover Unbound, due in part to this thread, certainly accomplished that. I also really enjoyed learning more about the vampire history and the key role that Darius apparently has and will continue to play in it, as well as all the changes that are afoot in the entire vampire world, which seem to be leading to something truly big in the future.
After reading Lover Unbound I find myself in awe of J.R. Ward's writing skills. It has definitely earned a place on my keeper shelf. In my opinion, this book and the Black Dagger Brotherhood series in general is a literary gem. It is apparent to me that Ms. Ward has an incredible imagination and that great thought and care has gone into the creation of each book. Every chapter adds a new piece to the puzzle and the much larger myth that J.R. Ward's fertile mind has created. Each new book seems to be an even greater intellectual feast, which leaves me pondering over this fantasy realm long after the last page has been turned. I can't wait to read the next book, and greatly look forward to seeing where this inventive and riveting story leads.

5 UNBOUND STARS.
Tinged with sadness, overwhelmingly touching, out there heart thumping style falling in love, Family bond like no other, tears, pain, angst, soul bearing eternal love ~ Yes I just got a little bit more of my fix for the Brotherhood.
I'm pretty sure my reviews are becoming predictable with this series but I can't apologise. The black dagger stories grab, me, turn me upside down and back to front, ensure that I am helplessly in love and for several hours consume me. So with that being said I'm not sure I can produce anything but a gushing review about the Black Dagger Brotherhood ...
Let's start with the prologue, i'm pretty impressed that this author so repeatedly makes me fall in love with these fictional characters. Yet again we are introduced to a new character - Jane, the prologue itself sets the mood for the book, achingly sad, exciting yet heart breaking. Right down to the last page of the epilogue this story had my full attention.
I loved every word, every chapter and here I am again blown away by this world of vampires, eternal love and fang like drama. I don't know how the author achieves it but she combines mini stories throughout the book, threading it all together to make one fantastic story and although we read about many characters in 'lover unbound' the shining stars in this story are Vishous and Jane.
A life changing, life saving moment between a doctor and a vampire turns everything around for this duo. Curiosity of another species and a natural mating instinct clashes in this meeting of vampire and human and I absolutely loved the story of V and Jane. My usual gushing in my reviews for this series is normally reserved for the Brotherhood but in this case I can't let it pass up to explain my like towards Jane the female lead. A doctor with a sad story to tell, is talented and passionate in her field as a surgeon, from the moment we meet her I was sold. This feisty character has strength and heart, she is more than a perfect match for our brother Vishous.
Vishous is a brother who has a lot on his plate from struggling with relationships, to family secrets, to trying to find his own happiness and loss of his purpose. This brother needs a serious break. In book number five of this series readers have the opportunity to fall for this character and believe me I fell hard. He has a vulnerability and strength in equal measure and once given the chance this vamp knows how to love, charm and bring humour to an at times intense book.
This book for me by far has been the darkest. The story was laced with a History of abuse and suffering that I found at times difficult to read but it wasn't unnecessary it all added to the character building and story plot. I found myself so wrapped up in the storyline I laughed and cried right along side the characters.
As mentioned before the story is filled with snippets from other characters lives making it near on impossible not to be thinking about books in the future. You think you know which Brother has won your book heart then you get introduced to another brother. I can't wait to read more about John Matthew and Phury and of course I can't help but love to read more about my favourite of the brotherhood - Zsadist, you feel me?
So once again i was addicted to action, Got wrapped up with the chemistry. I was mesmerised with the characters . I cried, laughed and fell helplessly in love.
Will I tire of this addiction to the Brotherhood? NOT LIKELY my friends. If you haven't picked up this series or my over zealous addiction then my question is WHY NOT? Read on ...

Let's start with the prologue, i'm pretty impressed that this author so repeatedly makes me fall in love with these fictional characters. Yet again we are introduced to a new character - Jane, the prologue itself sets the mood for the book, achingly sad, exciting yet heart breaking. Right down to the last page of the epilogue this story had my full attention.
I loved every word, every chapter and here I am again blown away by this world of vampires, eternal love and fang like drama. I don't know how the author achieves it but she combines mini stories throughout the book, threading it all together to make one fantastic story and although we read about many characters in 'lover unbound' the shining stars in this story are Vishous and Jane.
A life changing, life saving moment between a doctor and a vampire turns everything around for this duo. Curiosity of another species and a natural mating instinct clashes in this meeting of vampire and human and I absolutely loved the story of V and Jane. My usual gushing in my reviews for this series is normally reserved for the Brotherhood but in this case I can't let it pass up to explain my like towards Jane the female lead. A doctor with a sad story to tell, is talented and passionate in her field as a surgeon, from the moment we meet her I was sold. This feisty character has strength and heart, she is more than a perfect match for our brother Vishous.
Vishous is a brother who has a lot on his plate from struggling with relationships, to family secrets, to trying to find his own happiness and loss of his purpose. This brother needs a serious break. In book number five of this series readers have the opportunity to fall for this character and believe me I fell hard. He has a vulnerability and strength in equal measure and once given the chance this vamp knows how to love, charm and bring humour to an at times intense book.
This book for me by far has been the darkest. The story was laced with a History of abuse and suffering that I found at times difficult to read but it wasn't unnecessary it all added to the character building and story plot. I found myself so wrapped up in the storyline I laughed and cried right along side the characters.
As mentioned before the story is filled with snippets from other characters lives making it near on impossible not to be thinking about books in the future. You think you know which Brother has won your book heart then you get introduced to another brother. I can't wait to read more about John Matthew and Phury and of course I can't help but love to read more about my favourite of the brotherhood - Zsadist, you feel me?
So once again i was addicted to action, Got wrapped up with the chemistry. I was mesmerised with the characters . I cried, laughed and fell helplessly in love.
Will I tire of this addiction to the Brotherhood? NOT LIKELY my friends. If you haven't picked up this series or my over zealous addiction then my question is WHY NOT? Read on ...

This book was amazing in a lot of ways. Who would have thought I would go ga-ga over a bisexual, seriously dominant, kinda scary guy like Vishous? Well I fell, flat on my face. This guy is amazing. He is extremely attractive, imagine big, tall, ice blue eyes, black hair (I'm a sucker for blue eyes and black hair), and extremely intelligent also.
The way that JR Ward wrote this book did it. She put so much love and effort into telling this man's story that you couldn't help but love him. I love his selfless love for Butch. I love how he looked at Jane and saw his soulmate. I love that he fights for the Brothers and helps them out in manifold ways.
Also I cry for the torture and abuse he suffered at the hands of his so-called father. And what amounts to neglect from his mother. And then she wants him to step up as Primale and leave behind all that he loves.... Man. And not to mention having to give up Butch but always be there for him.
This book really ripped away at my heart. I couldn't put it down.
I really liked Jane. She was very down to earth and likable. But tough at the same time. Most people would have flipped out when they were exposed to a world that was so different from what they knew. She took it like a champ. And she never even blinked at the fact that Vishous was in love with another man and was seriously into bondage and stuff. She accepted him for who he was. Jane fits into the Brotherhood's life like a long-lost puzzle. She is the half to Vishous' whole that he was missing. She doesn't replace Butch but she still gives Vishous the love and acceptance he deserved for so long.

Vishous is officially my favorite brother. I couldn’t choose between him and Z but after rereading his book I felt that he deserved the first place.
He was always distant from the other brothers but he actually developed a deep relationship with his buddy Butch.I liked what was happening between them and V's inner monologues made me hurt for him.
During the whole book we get to know him better.He had a fucked up childhood because he grew up with his father.Bloodletter was one of the most vicious warriors that had ever existed. In his campus things weren’t easy.Even V who was his son didn’t have special rights to do whatever he wanted to.He was treated with the same toil, wickedness and inhumanity as the others.His curse made things worse as his father attempted to fix him but he only broke him.His only solace was an imaginary mum who was comforting him and Darius's diary.
Now in the present his visions have dried up and a nightmare is torturing him every time he goes to sleep.Like these arent enough he learns the truth about his mother and why he was abandonned.His mum annoyes me big time.I know that she had to leave him but you arent allowed after 300 years to command your son's life.That's unacceptable.
V's life is put in danger by some lessers and Jane , a human doctor, is doing her best to save his life. However things didnt evolve like Jane wanted because V had other plans for them.
I love their relationship .Both of them have so many things in common and they are so smart .We get to meet an other side of V's character .He is actually sweet and caring.
I wanted to hug him.
I also loved Jane a lot. She faced his past as a she should. She didn’t show any pity and she tried to make him feel worthy of himself , as his self-esteem was pretty low.
The ending... I like it.It could have been way better but still I didn’t feel too disappointed since he got his HEA.It will always feel weird reading that she is a but I am grateful that S.Virgin did her best this time .

These two characters had a complicated relationship from the beginning. Vishous was saved by Dr. Jane and then he simply decided to take her back to the mansion.
Jane’s life is about to change forever. One day she was career-focused, successful and independent. The next day is locked is a strange room in a strange place with a strange man with a strange blood type and strange fangs. But apparently she is attracted to him.
Stockholm syndrome anyone?
Jane:
Vishous has never had an easy existence. The son of a bloodthirsty, sadist warrior and a goddess (who apparently is not really a virgin) loves his kinks, loves his brothers and loves his vodka.
He may had a extraordinary brotherly/maybe a hint of sexual relationship with Butch, but he really needed a woman in his life. It does not matter that Jane is not that beautiful or she is slightly cold. Vishous wants her and he wants to protect her.
Vishous, the world's most famous bisexual vampire, is in love.
Now that I am doing rereads, I realize the strength of the love the BDB characters felt when they met their other half for the first time.
I desperately need another book with Vishous and Jane, because both of them need to remember how much they love each other without the complications that time and everyday habit usually bring.

5 Stars!!
This book was so frustrating and angsty and smutty!! I loved it!!!
This book was all about Vishous! I was so excited to read about his character! He is so witty and nerdy but sexy and dark at the same time :D His character had an interesting development/coming to age story. He was born from the Virgin Scribe and a brutal warrior named Bloodletter (I must admit that out of all the crazy names in this book, this has got to be the lamest lol). He grew up with his father at a warrior camp and he received no love or compassion from his father. During V's flashbacks he thought about the struggles he faced while at the camp. It was so sad and difficult to read.
V also finds out that his destiny is not his own and it has already been decided that once he turns 303 he must become the Primale. The Primale has the interesting job of impregnating all of the Chosen women (40 women!) and creating new warrior/potentially black dagger brotherhood members. This comes to be a problem when V falls in love with a human doctor named Jane!
Jane had a traumatic past like V and they connect almost instantly, that is after she is kidnapped by the brotherhood after she performs open heart surgery on Vishous!
I adore Vishous and Jane's relationship! Jane is just as witty as Vishous and gives it right back to him when he tries to be sassy! She is so smart and sarcastic and I literally wish I could be her. She openly accepts V's kinky habits and fits perfectly in his world.
Also in this book...John finally goes through his transition!!! Its about time!!! He has a heck of an awkward experience after his transition when he is about to be intimate with Layla. It felt so bad for him :( But John finds out that he may have feelings for Xenx! Wow! Definitely did not see that coming!
And then it seems like everything crazy happens in the last 50 pages of the book!! Jane dies and then comes back to "life" and the Scribe Virgin is actually nice for once? That was such an emotional roller coaster!! Then Phury says he will become the Primale because he is the only brother who isn't in love with someone they can actually have. Phury is such a loyal and compassionate brother! I can't wait to read about him in the next book!!
Overall, this book was fantastic and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it! Vishous has now tied Rhage as my favorite brother!!

I cannot tell you guys how much I adore and love this story. Vishous is one of my favourite book boyfriends, he's just so grrrr. I wish I had someone like him on my own. He's so over his head for his love and reading about his past and planned future made me care for him so much. I wished from the start that he didn't had to go through all that and by the end of this story I was really moved.
Let me quick say that I don't really care much for his mother, even less for his father. I get that his dad is plain and simply a monster but the fact that his mother cared for him in her own way makes it that much harder to forgive her for all that she did. In the end she does the right thing but for me it was a little too late. She's just a selfish person whi needs to grow up fast! If she really know the creatures she created and lived the lives they do, then she would understand that many things she does are so so wrong on so many levels!
Anyway, as far as Jane goes, she awesome. Her character is super cool and she doesn't do all that drama, which I love. She's practical and I appreciate that, you wouldn't believe how much! I think she was a huge reason why the story is so amazing and great and why I can't get enough of it. This is my third re-read and believe me it won't be the last. I love everything about it, from the plot to the wonderful romance and even the bad and sad parts, I love them all.
I would definitely recommend the story to all paranormal fans!

Lover Unbound is a little bit dark compared with the previous ones. V is a complicated character. I couldn't even read him before I started this book. I knew he had the past but I had never expected it being this tortuous. I loved J.R. Ward for making this book into something exceptional and so much different from her old works.

Dr. Jane is an epitome of women this day. She's strong but resilient. She deals with V with the way that leaving me gasp and shocked. I liked her spirit, though. And talking about V and Butch's relationship is very important for this review. I do think that they have some kind of passion, yet it's left vague that way because it's unlikely to happen. Ward did it on purpose and I totally understand her.
But I respect SV for being emphatic on her choice. Ward never disappointed me, she always surprises me with her work and I adore her so much for that.

It kinda pains me to only give this 3 stars. Maybe 3.5. I so loved the other books that I have read so far so maybe my expectations were way too high.

When I freak, I just try to... shit, I guess trust in it. Because at the end of the day, what else can you do? Choice only gets you so far. Reasoning and planning too. The rest... it's up to someone else. Where we end up, who we know, what happens to the people we love... we don't have a lot of control over any of it.”
I did like it, just did not LOVE it. Butch is still my favourite character and as I had just finished reading his story, maybe I should have taken a little break and read something in between.

Vishous and Jane in their original form! With his six-chamber heart! I have to say I like them here, and also, being a big-time Phury/Cormia fangirl, love all the Phury and Cormia in this one as the stage is set for their book. Vishous and his visions is one of my favorite forms of Vishous, and the Phury who saves Cormia and brings her down to the mansion is a great scene.
Reread 2020: I’m really enjoying this book the second time around even more for lots of reasons. I felt like I could get so many more details with a better understanding of the series as a whole.
1) The world building with Vishous/The Scribe Virgin/The Bloodletter and the Primale obligation. So much detail and so well thought out. I really love finding out so much about Vishous’s life and what makes him tick. I’ll admit I pretty much skimmed over all the BDSM parts. But the story parts were really fascinating to me. I love V and Jane together when they are doing their nerdy doctor thing. That’s when I feel like they have chemistry and things click for them as a couple. Their struggle to find a way to be together combined with Jane’s erased memories and what happened at the end was heart-wrenching to read. Admittedly, I skimmed the gruesome flashbacks to the Bloodletter camp. With everything going on in the world at the moment, this wasn’t really a headspace I needed to linger in.
2) The Phury and Cormia set up. Phury had lots to do in this one, from the mind-wiping at the hospital, to his scenes with Cormia. He’s hands down my favorite character, so this was a delight. The added layer of Phury pining for Bella while Butch and V are pining for each other, and Z and Bella are worried for their baby, Phury kind of a satellite that’s completely shut out was just really well done--everyone wanting someone they can’t have made things extra painful.
3) John Matthew—Another of my favorite characters, and I had forgotten all of those great scenes with Zsadist, the nervousness over his transition, the fact that he was the last one to change into an adult vampire and the storyline continuing to deal with the aftermath of his sexual assault. Plus there was him going to the club downtown, the memories of being Darius coming up, and meeting Xhex for the first time! Such great stuff.

Lover Unbound is a story of two people overcoming their pasts and the sacrifices made for their future. I'm not quite sure of one element in the ending, still I enjoyed this book overall.

I love the little tidbits on the Scribe Virgin. It made me changed my opinion on her seeing her different side.

Lover Unbound is a story of two people overcoming their pasts and the sacrifices made for their future. I'm not quite sure of one element in the ending, still I enjoyed this book overall.
Note:
I love the little tidbits on the Scribe Virgin. It made me changed my opinion on her seeing her different side.

~AWESOME, WITH AN UNCONVENTIONAL ENDING~
Book 5 in JR Wards sexy Black Dagger Brotherhood series is all about Vishous and "Doc" Jane. It's another great addition and I really enjoyed witnessing V let his guard down and fall in love. I found him to be surprisingly considerate and gentle especially for someone who's into sadomasochism. His falling for Jane is believable and makes sense as she's his intellectual equal and he respects her for it. She's also one of the few (human or Vampire) able to put Vishous in his place. Their story is erotic, suspenseful and ultimately heartbreaking, with revelations and surprises galore. I would suggest however that newbie's read this series in order, to get the full affect and intricate back story.
LOVER UNBOUND sees everyone from previous books returning and there's a lot of growth involved within the story as a whole. As usual JR has several distinct plotlines running simultaneously and a host of secondary returning characters who continue to grow and evolve.
As we begin Vishous is having dirty thoughts about his roommate. Even though he's disgusted with himself he can't seem to stop wanting what he can't have, and watching Butch all lovey-dovey with his wife Marissa is driving him crazy. Good thing he has his S &M outfitted Penthouse and a list of females eager to be bound and dominated. Its while at his 'love nest' that the Scribe Virgin makes an appearance blowing his mind with some life changing news and demanding that V become 'Primale' (basically he must marry a harem of chosen females and propagate the declining vampire race) Not really V's cup of tea but that's the least of his problems as that very night sees him getting shot in the chest and taken to a human hospital where he's operated on by trauma surgeon Jane Whitcomb. Jane is a no nonsense woman; strong, brilliant and forthright she's also head of the department and has an interest in genetics, so when Jane see's V's unusual heart and characteristic Vampire traits she's more than intrigued.
Interestingly all the brothers feel V's injury and know instinctively that something is wrong. When they eventually find him the boys have to extract V from the hospital and cover up any evidence that he was ever there. This is a great scene as Phury, Rhage and Butch short out video monitors and alarms, fritz computer files and 'scrub' nurses minds. To make things even more complicated V insists on kidnapping Jane so she can continue to care for him back at the mansion.
And... back at the mansion; Wrath is livid that Jane has been brought into the Brotherhood's world. Only allowing her to stay until V has recovered then she must be 'scrubbed' and released. Butch is sick from inhaling Lessers and after Jane witness's a healing session she assumes V and Butch are a couple. This doesn't bode well for V who keeps thinking "mine" whenever he looks at her. Luckily he's able to perform certain acts in her dreams (nice.) Bella is having some complications with the pregnancy which in turn is making Zsadist a little crazy. John Mathew, Blay, Quinn and Lash continue their training and wait for 'the change.' We are introduced to Cormina and JR gives us a fascinating look into the Scribe Virgins world. The Lessers remain relatively quiet throughout our story until towards the end and then, wow! We also get flashbacks of Vishous in his father's war camp and discover why he got his tattoos. V's darker sexual tendencies are also explored and in a very touching scene he and Butch talk about their feelings for each other.
Phury again plays a major role as we are set up brilliantly for the next book (Lover Enshrined) He's having some major issues with anger management and feelings towards his twin's wife which is causing him to overindulge in 'red smoke'. Ultimately Phury sacrifices again for the good of others.
EDIT: This great book was a re-read for me and as you can tell a lot happens. Unfortunately I still had a hard time with the ending, it just doesn't sit right even knowing the outcome. All I will say is that its an untraditional HEA and you'd better have some Kleenex handy. The closing chapters do however contain one of my favourite scenes from the entire series and once you've read the hot chocolate scene you`ll know what I mean...Sigh
Highly recommended for fans of the sexy yet troubled Black Dagger Brotherhood.

As far as romance novel heroes go, Vishous is a deviant. He’s bisexual. He’s in love with another man. He’s into hardcore BDSM. And he has a magic, glowing hand that can both heal people and electrocute them AND he can use it to incinerate cigarette butts into dusty oblivion. Um, okay!
Jane Whitcomb’s talents aren’t nearly as interesting. She’s a human. She’s an outstanding surgeon. She swears a lot. And she smarts off to Vishous, which is a major turn on for him (go figure).
So what happens when a human and a vampire fall madly in love? Well, if you thought the resolution for Mary (in book 2) or Butch (in book 4) was way out of left field; believe me when I say that they ain’t got nothing on old Jane. Holy shit. It was W-E-I-R-D. My internal judge and jury are still deliberating on whether it was good weird or bad weird although I’m kind of leaning towards bad, so…yeah.
The first three-quarters of this book were really outstanding; I thought (as all addicts say when they’re flying high). But the last part completely fell apart for me (sort of like one of those puking hangovers you get after a really wild night).
I was quite pleased that with all the scene-jumping from one character to the next, none of them were devoted to the random meanderings of lessers, which I don’t like reading about.
And I hate to say it, but I was a bit underwhelmed by John Matthew this time around. That bummed me out because I’d really been anticipating something much more exciting for him. Oh well. I suppose the judge and jury can deliberate on him for awhile as well since I still haven’t read the sixth book and it’s fairly obvious that Ward doesn’t plan on stopping this series any time soon. And I'm glad (yay!) because I’m totally hooked.

J. R. Ward... Sólo puedo decir:
Chica, lo has hecho de nuevo. Creo que Vishous y Zsadist están en una batalla por el trofeo quién le saca más lágrimas a Gaby.
Y yo aquí pensando que ningún libro lograría superar a Amante despierto, mira por donde, creo que lo logró.
Este libro es una mismísima bomba de feelings. Aquí, se nos presenta la vida de Vishous. Y, madre mía, es brutal, brutal. Nos enteramos de su pasado, que no tiene nada que envidiarle al de Z ; de su presente, que ya conocíamos un poco con el libro anterior, y sabemos que no es nada lindo tampoco; y de su futuro, que, déjenme decirles, se pone peor.
Ni siquiera sé cómo explicarme.
Vamos a ver, que sabemos todo ese feeling que hay entre V y Butch, y sabemos cuánto sufre ahora que él está con Marissa.
Luego entra en el panorama Jane, encendiendo en V sus mejores partes. Es mi personaje femenino favorito so far. Una mujer con cáracter, capaz de plantarle cara a un vampiro que la amenazó de muerte. Eso es a lo que yo llamo tener los pantalones puestos, carajo.
Ese par, Jane y Vishous, son el uno para el otro. Está demás decir que los reshipeo a morir.
Ahora, hablemos de las situaciones fuertes. De esas sobran en este libro. Que he llorado como si no hubiese un mañana.
Mi corazón está roto también, cariño.
Habían partes en las que simplemente no podía parar de llorar .
Por otra parte, vemos un poquito más de John y de Phury. No sé ni para qué lo digo, pero los amo cada vez más.
John, bebé. Esa conexión entre él y Zadist me mata de emoción .
Y Phury, por los dioses, Phury.
Ahora... Sé que el final no ha sido del agrado de la mayoría. Pero, admitámoslo, a pesar de todo el wtfismo de eso, sí que no nos lo esperábamos.
Y ese epílogo, no sé ustedes, pero es uno de los mejores que he leído. Ya no me quedaban lágrimas a esas alturas, pero el dolor igual estuvo presente.
En serio, Ward tiene que controlarse con los sentimientos fuertes. Va a terminar matándome un día de estos.

5 Wickedly Sexy.....VISHOUS stars
This is the fifth book in the Black Dagger Brotherhood series and in my opinion....the best one yet!!! This is the story of V and Jane.
Vishous has a dark side and doesn't do relationships....until he meets Dr. Jane. They meet under not so great circumstances....but the chemistry is instant and incredibly hot. Will Jane fall under V's spell? I know i would...LOL! You will just have to read it to find out...go look at my V pics in my review and you tell me you're not interested? Hmmm? 2 words....SEXY and MEN, need i say more??? GO READ THIS!!!

I loved everything about this book!
I was waiting for Vishous to get over his crush on Butch and fall in love with someone and when he fell, he fell hard. But of course there had to be so many roadblocks. First he finally meets his mother who turns out to be the God they have all been praying to. Which opens a huge can of worms for V as to why she left him with his father for all those years to be tortured and humiliated, which basically made him the messed up Vampire he still is today.
Then to top it off, she expects him to become the Primale, which means he basically has to mate with 40 of the Chosen females that serve the Scribe Virgin in order to repopulate the ranks of the brotherhood. He agrees since it is his duty and since the Lessening Society has a never ending supply of humans to recruit from. However, he meets he meets his mate a few day later which complicates things.
The story of John Matthew is also furthered in this book as he Lash transitions before John and keeps threatening him. Also John, Quinn and Blaylock start hanging out at the bar, ZeroSum where Xhex watches out for John.
One thing I was waiting for in the last book was for Zsadist to have talk with John about the things that happened to him in the past. That happened in this book but I was a bit disappointed. Z told John that he read his file and knew what happened to him in the stairwell. He told John that he didn’t have to talk about it if he didn’t want to and that nobody else needed to know about it. That he would burn the file before he let anyone else see it. But I was a bit upset that he didn’t tell John that the same thing had happened to him when he was a blood slave. He talked to John later about being kidnapped and being a slave, but it is obvious from earlier books that John thinks no brother has ever been raped by men, especially Zsadist. He even thought that at one point.
Another storyline that was furthered was Phury’s. He is still pining for Bella, and that is getting sickening. He tried to break his celibacy with a hooker at ZeroSum in the bathroom to get over her, but has a new plan now. I hope for his sake it works out. He, and his hair, are apparently really hot. These books keep getting better and better so I can’t wait.

3.5 ‘Mine’ stars
Jeez, this book was going so great and set at being a 4 star read up until that ending! I realize that there is a great desire to keep couples together but the way that this one played out was a bit unbelievable – even in this paranormal world. (I'm not going to ruin it for you, there are plenty of other reviews that give it away if you really want to know)
I was looking forward to reading Vishous’ story after his time of unrequited love for Butch. I’m glad that JRW got that relationship out in the open and then left it as a loving, deep relationship between two ‘brothers’, a bond that is stronger than any other in the Brotherhood.
Vishous’ story is one that would mess anyone up. A cruel (what’s a word that means worse than cruel?) father who was so vicious, savage and vile. In this book we find out who his mother is…and that brings a whole new set of issues to Vishous’ identity.
Jane is a brilliant (human) surgeon who saves Vishous from a stabbing and shooting. I loved that nothing terrified her and that she had such strength and sarcastic wit. I loved how she stood up to Vishous and defied him at every turn, only to turn him on by her insubordination. Their relationship developed quite quickly and the heat between then was roaring hot.
I was so glad not to have to read the POV of any of the lessers in this book. That was a nice break from all that vile evilness.
Phury, dear Phury. My heart broke a little for him even more. I found it so unfair that he was dealing with so much and no one was reaching out to help him. The whole Brotherhood and their shellans knew of his love for Bella and how hard it was for him to see her with Zsadist, yet Z kept coming to him for advice on his marriage and Bella kept visiting him in his room. He was turning towards drugs more and more and no one stopped him from his downward spiral.
I enjoyed watching John’s growing relationship with Zsadist, Blaylock & Qhuinn.
I found myself skimming over Cormia’s POV and anything to do with The Chosen. I realize that she has known nothing else but the world that she has been raised in and that her destiny is not her own. It’s all so suffocating, you can’t help but want to break her out of that life.
I think that I’m going to take a break here from BDB, mainly because Jane’s ending in this book has gotten me so riled up and I don’t want to carry it over into the next book just yet, maybe let my disappointment fade a bit first.

V is such a dude… I love him, not as in a “want to strip him naked and do inappropriate things to him” way like I do with Z, but as in a let’s share some Goose (also my fav!) and listen to rap, while watching sports kind of way …
This book tells the Story of V and a very stubborn, cocky, smart-ass, smart, sexy Doc Jane. She’s kinda like a female version of Butch. She is exactly what V needs!

V is such a dude… I love him, not as in a “want to strip him naked and do inappropriate things to him” way like I do with Z, but as in a let’s share some Goose (also my fav!) and listen to rap, while watching sports kind of way …
This book tells the Story of V and a very stubborn, cocky, smart-ass, smart, sexy Doc Jane. She’s kinda like a female version of Butch. She is exactly what V needs!

As I have mentioned in the updates, you simply cannot get wrong with JR Ward. Once she’s hooked and riled you in, you are done for. You will find it impossible to leave the BlackDagger Brotherhood. Believe me nothing can go wrong in this series. That is unless CW takes interest in it. Then I’m sure it can go spiraling into a shit show.
I think I’ve finally been introduced to my two favorite female characters in the series. Yes two. Although Jane is the main heroine in this particular book I fell in love with a minor character too. Obviously the only other female introduced in this one, Cormia. I love how she went against the rules when she didn’t even know what the proper rules were. In a society in which she was meant to bow down and accept her fate, she’s going against tide and that simple act of courage put her on the top. I cannot simply wait to read her story with Phury. The second character is Jane. Dear Dr Jane Whitcomb, you have officially become favorite character in the series. My favorite male character is still John Matthew (his book was the first I read not knowing this was a series).
I am writing this review assuming that those who are at this point of the story are totally up to date on our beloved brothers and their respective Shellans and if you’re not, I beg you. Please read the series. At least one book before this. If not you are missing out on a truly epic journey. Do not expect this to be your Twilight type vampire story. Or even Vampire Diaries style. This is true blood and gore vampire story that you cannot help but want to sink your fangs into.

From what I understand, this book created a lot of controversy...so to speak. I have read several reviews, and have seen posts crying out for JR Ward to re-write this book. That Vishous was cheated out of a mate...they hate/or hate that Jane ended up like she did.
I am not one of those people. I really loved this book. Yes, it is not the easy happily ever after that we are used to, but dang...it was still good.
Plus, I know that everything happens for a purpose with this series...there is a REASON that it ended the way it did. (I am really trying not to spoil anything...lol)
I thought Vishous and Jane were a very compelling couple. Honestly, I really never cared for Vishous before. He was not my favorite Brother (I have a thing for Rhage, Wrath and Phury...oh hell I love them all)...and his obvious feelings for Butch in the previous novels didn't really give me the impression he was going to find a female mate that would be suitable for him.
Personally, after reading this book I found that Vishous is probably the most tortured, misunderstood brother to date. The things he endured and the scars he bares because the the cruelty that was unleashed on him was unbearable...no wonder he was so untrusting of others.
Jane was perfect for him. She is smart, sarcastic and sees Vishous as he is. I really loved them together, and once again the character development was well thought out. They both changed, they grew together and I loved how their relationship developed.
I simply loved this book, and I can't WAIT to read PHURY'S...ugh that man...er vampire...drives me crazy!

5+ stars - Vampire Romance
A lot of BDB series fans were unhappy with this book, but I loved it. I thought the relationship between warrior/brother Vishous and smart doc Jane was refreshing and incredibly sexy. The BDSM scenes were erotic, yet surprisingly sweet and tender. V is a total badass, and I love the way he and Butch sling teasing jibes and quips left and right at each other, yet there’s a deep, underlying respect and affection between them that adds a beautiful element to the story and to the entire series. This is my third favorite book (after Lover Awakened and Lover Eternal) in the amazing, phenomenal BDB series. I just can’t say enough...I LOVE the Brothers!

this shit is good. no dinky heroine for our vampire warrior. we get a fucking bad ass doctor with short hair and small titties and it was GOOD. there was kinkery, there was love.
yeah okay maybe j.r. had to pussy foot and ended up not giving us the gay butch/v love story we deserved but idgaf because i love me some doc jane and kinky v.

Well, Vishous has issues. Always had. He was brutally tortured and abused as a little child, sexually assaulted as a young man. He has allegoric premonitions of the future, but he can’t do anything to prevent certain things, because he doesn’t know the exact time of these events.
Lately, he is plagued by a nightmare about his own death so he dreads to fall asleep. His abilities are in ruins: he loses his mind-reading ability, as well as seeing the future.
He is attracted to his best friend, Butch, but as Butch had found his mate, Marissa, in the previous book, Lover Revealed, the unthinkable has become impossible for Vishous.
And if this isn’t enough, his mother reveals herself for him, but it is not a happy reunion. Her mother forces him to be the Primale of the Chosens, a duty has to be done on behalf of his race.
Therefore the fact that Vishous is a practically immortal vampire and Jane is a human is not the only obstacle between them.
Jane’s childhood was without warmth, kindness, and understanding. “Frozen perfection” on the surface, dead and incomprehensible rigidity inside. Yet, she has become an empathetic, tolerant, strong-willed woman. I adore her wit and intelligence, but sadly you get not much of her personality, as in this book Vishous is the main character, not her. Her portrayal is not equally detailed as his.
Secondary storylines
Phury and Cormia’s book is not only prepared, but actually starts in Lover Unbound.
I loved John’s appearances: his friendship with Blay, Qhuinn, and Zsadist is heartwarming. He finally finds acceptance and understanding, and goes through his transition.
It was also wonderful to see Zsadist’s newfound wisdom and empathy, as well as talking, joking, eating, teaching, being worried, in short just living just like anyone else.
The story
The focus is on Vishous and Jane. Not much action takes place, the Lessening Society doesn’t show up. Instead of them, Vishous has to face an unexpected enemy.
The way Ward prepares and runs the story of a character is outstanding. It's a reread, so now I understand and enjoy all those little hints which have a strong significance regarding to the following books. The maze of links created between the characters is truly amazing.
The ending
The HEA of Vishous and Jane is unsatisfying: forced and a little bit creepy.
All in all
Lover Unbound is a great installment of the series. Even though I'm not fully satisfied with the romance, the story is heartbreaking and highly erotic. Besides, the side characters' storylines are really engaging.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I had no problem with the short sex scenes or the lack of chemistry between Vishous and Jane. But my only complaint about this one was the ending. It was strange, jarring, and too abrupt. It was kind of weird to live their lives like THAT! I thought V deserved real happiness after all he had been through! Damn! The author made them look so pathetic!
When I was a little more than halfway through the stroy, I was thinking about giving this book 5 stars, but the last quarter and the ending made me reduce the rating to 4 instead.
