The Carolina Cold Fury hockey team is stacked with hotshots. But when a new player joins their ranks, he learns that even superstars can't go it alone when it comes to love.
Lucas Fournier is only serious about one hockey. The league's fun-loving charmer, Luc is always up for a good prank or a great lay, and he has no intention of settling down. But being traded to the Carolina Cold Fury—and to play alongside his big brother, Max—is no joke. With another title in sight, the last thing Luc wants is to let his new teammates down. To succeed, Luc will need to keep his head in the game and the most . . . er, demanding member of his anatomy in check. But when temptation hits, Luc hits back harder.
Museum curator Stephanie Frazier has always put business before pleasure, which just about explains her nonexistent sex life. But when Stephanie meets Luc at a champagne-fueled gala, she finds herself flirting like crazy—and going home with the...

I love hockey books, and Sawyer Bennett’s Cold Fury series has really hit the spot for me. These books are steamy, sweet, and entertaining. I get excited whenever I see a new one is coming out. I was especially excited to read Lucas’s book after meeting him in Max’s.

Lucas is not on the same path as his brother. Marriage and kids are not in his near future. He’s perfectly content playing hockey and playing the field. When he meets Stephanie Frazier, a stunning woman who is on the same page as him, it’s a match. They are a match in a lot of ways, but Stephanie grew up in a way much different than Luc and it’s shaped the way she sees things…
It’s a gamble whether we can truly maintain this, but I suspect both of us are enjoying each other so much that we are refusing to consider this is probably the dumbest idea two people could ever come up with.

Lucas is such a great guy. Seriously, he was near perfect. I say ‘near’ because there was one part I wanted to throw something at him, but overall I adored him. Stephanie was frustrating at times, but I always feel like if I can understand WHY characters are frustrating, I can deal with it easier. And I can definitely understand the ‘why’ of Steph’s behavior.

What I didn't love... I really wanted the epilogue to be from Steph or Luc’s pov. I needed more of them! I’m sure I’ll get it in future Cold Fury books though, but I still wanted to see in this book. But OMG after finishing I am dying for Van’s book! I hope it’s next because I can’t wait!!!

As always, it’s great to catch up with some of the other Cold Fury players and their families. We got a lot of Max and Jules which was awesome! If you are a fan of sports romance, this is one you want to pick up!
“Trust me when I say nothing is better than this right here. Understood?”

I crave this man, and that’s not going to change. I don’t want it to change, and in fact, the safest course for me would be to keep to our agreement and maintain this in a casual manner. I want him very much, yet I don’t want to want him in a way that’s necessary to me. I’ve never given that part of myself to anyone before.

It’s time to get reacquainted with some of the hottest NHL hockey players from North Carolina’s Cold Fury team. This has been one of my favorite series by Sawyer Bennett. Each player is sexier and dare I say even more swoon-worthy than the previous one. I’ve fallen in love with them all. What I can guarantee is that these books are off the charts STEAMY and incredibly entertaining. I’m left dying in anticipation for the next release.

Luc Fournier is one of the newest members of the Cold Fury. His older brother Max is also on the team and we met him in book six. Luc is an all-around good guy who is extremely passionate about his career as a professional hockey player and he has a very close-knit family. He’s also enjoying the life of a single and most sought-after player by the ladies. There’s not a woman that he sets his sights on that he can’t have. One night at a fundraiser he meets a stunning redhead. The two exchange some flirty banter, one thing leads to another and they end up back at her apartment where they share the most intense and mind-blowing sex of their lives.

 photo Lucas_Teaser_Theyre Back_zpsxvtem83e.jpg

Stephanie Frazier currently works as a museum curator. She’s a very strong-willed and independent woman who doesn’t have any close friends and has never had the desire to be in a committed relationship. This stems from the emotional neglect her parents inflicted upon her throughout her childhood. They provided for her financially but they failed miserably at providing her with a warm and nurturing environment. Stephanie has been satisfied with how she lives her life. She avoids making any close connections with people to protect herself from getting hurt. Stephanie had no idea just how much that one wild night with Luc was going to change her life drastically forever.

Something unexpected has the two crossing paths again and even though they may have thought one night with each other was satisfying, they’re soon realizing that once could never be enough for either of them. Luc and Stephanie decide to become ”friends with benefits”, and while the sex is beyond amazing and they can’t seem to quench their insatiable appetites for each other, there’s also the matter of the heart that wants to inch its way to the forefront.

 photo Lucas_Teaser_Temptation_zpsutlnsnhg.jpg

While Luc is starting to realize that friendship will never be enough for him when it comes to Stephanie, she is a tougher nut to break. Her childhood has so royally messed with her psyche that she is convinced she is not worthy of being loved and that ultimately she will end up being abandoned and heartbroken. Her stubbornness will make you want to bang your head against the wall. While my heart broke for her over her non-existent relationship with her parents, I couldn’t quite understand how she could even push away such an amazing guy like Luc.

Here are my overall ratings on the book:

Plot: 4.5

Unplanned pregnancy because of a broken condom during an ONS is not a perfect beginning for a long-time relationship and/or parenthood.
But life happens…

I liked the heroine. Female characters, who is anti-commitment and enjoys casual sex, can be very interesting. And the one, who wasn’t immediately smitten with a hot man, should be my kind of a girl.

I like them different and I like them opposite to a doormat. This heroine was cool, well, till almost last page, when she interrupted his groveling to tell him she loved him.
Woman, let him grovel! Let. Him. Grovel.!!!

As to the male protagonist. Cliché.
Playboy hockey-player, hot, rich, ONS-kind of a guy, blah blah blah
Potential candidate for weekly STD-test.

They met, they had ONS (the best sex of his life!), condom broke, she wasn’t on the pill (so she said she would take the “after-pill”), he left and went on with his carefree life.

Since their relationship was built purely on hot sexual chemistry and excellent times in bed, following trope ruined the romance for me.

They met 4 weeks later and she told him she was pregnant, he said sh*t, she left, he came to her, they decided to be friends, later on friends with benefits and after their 4th night together he proposed exclusivity.

As I said, sex as a main relationship-factor. He had the best sex of his life with the h and, thanks to the honesty of his team-mate who told us the raw truth, slept with many OWs during 4 weeks (after the night with her and before pregnancy bomb):
male protagonist: “Yeah…remember that night at the museum?”
his team mate: “You banged someone that worked there, right?” he asks, then shakes his head like I’ve lost it. “Didn’t think it was that great, as you’ve hooked up with plenty of ass after her.”

Well, technically they were not together. But if a man says the sex was the best, I guess he could at least wait a bit before he moves on, or not to sample many OWs. We speak about 4 weeks and NOT 4 months or years. Only 4 weeks!

The best part, they didn’t use condom after their reunion.
I guess he had a stamp on his butt: tested and approved? And how could a pregnant woman risk to ditch condoms with a manho without even asking him if he were clean/tested, if he slept with OW after their last night together?
And don’t tell me, that condoms are 100% safe! It’s BS!!!

They dated, he wanted more, she was closed off. He pushed and pushed; apparently it’s not acceptable, when a woman doesn’t want more or, in this case, needs more time to accept a new relationship.

Yada, yada, yada

They had fight and he said really very cruel things to her. Very cruel. He hurt her. Yes, she wasn’t an easy-going person, but he knew it; and the way he behaved that night and the things he told her were a very low blow.
Unacceptable.
Coward. A§$hole.

The best part for safety-gang-girls! You will “love” it! *he he he*

The poor guy suffered so much, he drunk and was grumpy and was mad – coz how could she not to fall to her knees and crawl to him, when he told her he wanted her??? How??? Poor baby.

Are you crying with me?.. Does your heart break for him?..

So he drunk much and one night he chose a blond woman at the bar, who seductively licked her lips, and despite his sister wanted to stop him, he flirted and drunk with this OW; they came to her place, she lost her clothes and opened his fly. She touched his brain, ups sorry, I mean d*ck (almost the same in this case), but he suddenly thought about the h and couldn’t go on, so he left…
So technically he didn’t have sex with her and I guess the fact that this OW touched his d*ck won’t bother other readers.

But it bothered me.

It bothered me to the point I stopped to care.

Cliché after cliché.
She was hit by the car, he found out, came to her and groveled for about 3 minutes till she interrupted him and said she loved him.
Woman, you should have let him grovel!!!

I love you + will you marry me?

*eye roll*

The curtain falls…

P.S. To be fair I must admit there were some sweet touching moments in the book. Male protagonist showed his good side.

4 To Be Loved By a Fournier Stars
* * * * Spoiler Free It's Live!!!
Now that may seem like the craziest title ever...But if you give me a moment, I can explain. You see, Lucus is the younger brother of Max...and both of these men come from a family that is friggin' amazing. These men may have had some hiccups along the way on finding "Their Person" but when they do... They end up going all in....And their all in just works for me...

I happened to have loved Max in the 6th entry to the Cold Fury Series. These brothers have a sweetness and love of family. They had the gift of parents who would encourage and support no matter what. This was the foundation of these men... this was what guided them through all of the years growing up, experiencing the ups and downs of a career in sports... this was what made them who they were.

So to be loved by a Fournier ...I am all in...

Now don't get me wrong... There is a story to be told and nothing is easy with these brothers... they seem to find the most stubborn women...And these women have their legitimate reasons...they do challenge us readers to be patient and understand why they maintain this continued level of stubbornness or fear of seeing what is right before their eyes...

But I am jumping ahead...

The whole basis of this story is told exceedingly well in the blurb...
Lucas is part of the Cold Fury now and they are focused on winning the Stanley Cup. The team is in the running and all Lucas wants to do is prove himself to the team and show he deserves to be there. To play with his brother, Max, is something they both had hoped for from the start... and now it is a reality. Nothing is going to ruin this for Lucas.

Lucas has never denied himself from enjoying all the Puck Bunnies who avail themselves to him. He has been active in all the "extra curricular activities" being a Hockey player can easily participate in and has no plans to be involved in any long term relationship. The only long term relationship for Lucas right now is with Hockey.

Lucas is behaving himself at a Cold Fury Charity Event minding his own business when he spots a beautiful woman doing something that catches his eye...

Stephanie Frazier is stunning... she is self assured and in control at all times. She has had to be that way in order to survive and develop into the capable person she is. She has never experienced support or sacrifices from her parents...she was an imposition to them and they let her know it from the start. Her only warmth growing up was from a nanny...So Stephanie learned very quickly, she had only herself to rely on... and she became an expert at it.

When Stephanie approaches Lucas...or actually a skeleton of the main attraction of the museum where she is now the interim curator, both of them feel the sparks of attraction...They flirt, they acknowledge the flirting and then they go and act on the flirting like two very healthy, passionate grown ups will do.

Both are Extremely Compatible in their desires and ways of enjoying them... and after, there is no embarrassment or shame, just a very intense experience that both of them will remember for the pleasure it brought...

Oh, and also the unplanned results....

Yes, there is a result and it is this main upcoming event which is the crux of the story and how these two develop into the couple they become.

From the start, our Lucas is not someone who lays everything out and understands he has found his One... Nope, he is scared sh!tless but also knows he will do the responsible thing. He will be there for Stephanie as a willing partner, letting her know she will not be alone in this ...she will have someone to lean on. However, Stephanie's whole existence has been based on Never Trusting or Believing she can lean on anyone without being severely hurt...which is just the opposite of Lucas' upbringing.

So this is the conflict...Both of them want what is best...Both of them are physically attracted to each other...and both think they can do the physical without the risk of emotional complications....

Hahahahahahahaha Snort, hahahahahahaha, Giggle, Hahahahahahah Sigh....

Yeah, I know...

So we go on this journey... with Lucas who is just delicious and see him fall really hard for this woman. He sees the pain she has experienced; he wants to figure out how to alleviate it yet not frighten her away...Because this woman is like a cat on a hot tin roof when she gets defensive...

Stephanie is not the most touchy-feely character... she can be down right difficult to accept... as it takes her an extremely long time to see what is in front of her. Also Lucas in trying to be careful with her, takes awhile to come to grips with how he is feeling about Stephanie. too.

Overall, though, it is this guy I fell for and wanted to see a full Happily Ever After...Because,
When a Fournier loves you, they go all in.

The Cold Fury Hockey series quickly became a favorite of mine and book after book just added to my love for it. Lucas was no different and I fell in love with these characters very early into the book. Lucas and Stephanie were perfect for one another and that was evident all the way through the book. Neither of them were looking for something serious, just wanting a little fun. But when they got together their chemistry was so strong it couldn't be ignored no matter how much they wanted to fight it.

What I enjoyed most about their relationship was how they helped each other. Stephanie had a lot of hang ups about commitment but Lucas was always right there showing her why he was a risk worth taking. It wasn't an easy battle but he never gave up and I loved him for that.

This could be read as a standalone with no problem and would be a great introduction to this series. I recommend all of these books though, no matter what order you read them in.

Lucas Fournier is one of the newest additions to the Cold Fury and Max's brother. He comes from a loving family and that's what he wants for himself one day but he isn't quite there yet. Right now Luc enjoys the life of being single and a hockey player who can go home with a different woman every night. When he meets Stephanie he is happy that they are on the same page but after their passionate night both of their lives are being turned around and they have to adjust to their new situation and join forces.

Yes, I'm being deliberately vague. I think readers will enjoy this story most if they go in with as little information about the plot as possible.

Stephanie Frazier's life is pretty straight forward and she makes sure it stays that way - there is no room for relationships, not for the friend-kind and not for the lover-kind either. She shies away from any kind of commitment and when I found out why all I wanted to do was hug her.

Lucas is getting too close, and his words affect me in two different ways. They make me want so much with him, and they make me want to shut the door firmly on the possibility.

She frustrated the hell out of me but I really understood why she was the way she was and handled their relationship the way she did. That's why her epiphany in the end was a little too unrealistic and I would have liked to see a constant growth throughout the story - that's what I found a bit lacking. Yet, Stephy was a marvelous heroine who was worthy of one of the Fournier boys.

Luc has a deeply seated sense of responsibility, despite his player-ways. His family means everything to him. He cares about Stephy and has no problem showing it. He is super patient and sweet with her. Once Luc decides that he wants this wonderful yet broken woman for the long haul it is all or nothing. I really loved that about him - he didn't miss his player life and focused on his future with Stephanie.

He thinks my time is the most extravagant gift in the world.

He has a bit of a TSTL moment - which seems to be a theme in the Cold Fury books - most of the heroes seem to have those - and for a short time he went from awesome to douchebag but thankfully that didn't last long.

I love Sawyer Bennett's Cold Fury Hockey series. She doesn't experiment with these stories but gives us exactly what we expect and love about them - an entertaining, sweet and sexy sports romance with fabulous characters. Next up is Van and boy he's a grumpy dude. I can't wait for him to be brought to his knees by yet another Fournier family member.

Lucas is the eighth book in the Cold Fury Hockey Series. Lucas Fournier is the newest member of the Cold Fury Hockey team and he plays hard on the ice and OFF the ice with the ladies. After a heated one night stand with a spunky museum curator, Lucas faces the standoff of his life. Stephanie Frazier is a fighter. She is serious about her career and about playing it safe when it comes to the game of life. Lucas and Stephanie are complete opposites and yet, together they seem to make perfect sense. But can Stephanie embrace Lucas' breezy views on life and can Lucas offer Stephanie the security that she needs?

description
"I'm a fucking work in progress, that's for sure."
Told in dual POV, Lucas is a passionate and tender read with a complex plot and a lot of heart! The circumstances in which Lucas and Stephanie find themselves requires them to "get real" much faster than they would have in normal circumstances. Stephanie is a damaged soul and my heart hurt for her as she tried to let Lucas in. Lucas was persistent in his quest to earn her trust so that he could give her unconditional love. I applaud Ms. Bennett for exploring the dynamics of overcoming differences in upbringing. Stephanie and Lucas had much to overcome and yet, the way in which they were able to finally come together evoked tears and smiles (at the same time). I found the dynamics between the two to cover all of the emotions on the spectrum. As always, the drama unfolds amidst the love and support of the entire Cold Fury Hockey team.

Overall, Lucas is an absolute must-read for Cold Fury Hockey fans. If you haven't checked out this series yet, you are seriously missing out. Each book in the series offers a unique plot with plenty of hockey action, passion, and romance! I don't think I will ever get enough of the Cold Fury Players and their women!

After my last Sawyer Bennett read (not from this series), I declared we were having a break but then she goes and brings us Lucas and seeing as I adored his big brother, Max, not reading his story would be cutting my nose off to spite my face. So, with some trepidation, in I went and here I am eating my words because I enjoyed it.

“I’m into hookups and one-night stands because that’s all I have to give someone.”

The reason was largely down to Luc and his personality, and whilst a player, only interested in no-strings sex, underneath he's thoughtful and has a huge heart—pretty similar traits to his brother. And when he meets museum curator/also preferrer of no-strings shenanigans, Stephanie Frazier at a charity dinner, sparks fly, clothes are shed and they indulge in one night neither will ever forget.

"I’m single. You’re single—or at least I assume you are—and we both enjoy sex."

description

Although Stephanie could be frustrating, and hugely so, her reasons for being detached, closed-off and untrusting were reasonably understandable because loving relationships are alien to her. But if there's a family to show her the possibilities it's the Fournier's and when Max's parents enter the mix in come the moments that make you smile and pull on the heartstrings.

"...just because you have the potential to hurt my son doesn’t mean you’re not good for him."

There's no getting away from the fact that this is a sex-fest with a fairly simple storyline and a dose or two of angst thrown in along the way. And even though the ending was rushed, overall it was an easy read and I've been left intrigued enough over Luc's roommate, Van, to see what the score is between him and Simone—Luc and Max's baby sister.

Sometimes the books that make me feel the most, that keep me enthralled and won’t let me go, are the ones I have the hardest time writing a review for. I think it’s because they are so amazing it seems wrong to try to put the way they make me feel into mere words. I’m finding this to be the case with Sawyer Bennett’s latest Cold Fury novel. I know what you’re thinking…this is a sports romance! I can’t help it, it is what it is.

After a one night stand, Stephanie and Lucas are faced with a huge life changing situation. In complete accord of how to deal with it they decide to become friends with benefits. Lucas comes from a home of love and acceptance while Stephanie has never seen what love looks like. Their differences in this area become more blatant as their relationship evolves into something deeper and definitely not casual.

I’ve read a lot of books where one of the characters was abused as a child, but I’ve seldom felt such a deep empathy for them as I did for Stephanie. The fact that she came from a wealthy home and was completely ignored her whole life just lodged a knot in my chest. She had spent her lifetime building a protective armor around her. In addition, she never had anyone to guide or direct her in life’s journey. Every decision she made was based on these facts.

Lucas was a great hero, well, until he did that one thing. He was laid back, fun, patient, kind and caring. Everything a woman would want. He was also the type of man that one day wanted it all. Love, wife, home, children. Everything. Unfortunately, Stephanie will not be able to be the person to help him achieve his dreams.

This is a fast paced, steamy read with the last portion being extremely angsty. The hero does a couple of things I took exception to but while that bothered me, it’s more than likely something about the heroine is going to bother you. The epilogue was not about this couple but sets us up for the next book, Van. And I cannot wait!

My honest review is for a special copy from NetGalley that I voluntarily read.

The Cold Fury Hockey Series by Sawyer Bennett is hands down one of my favorite hockey sports romance series that I have read. In this eighth installment, Bennett turns up the heat and sweetness as she introduces readers to Lucas Fournier and Stephanie Frazier.

Lucas was a sexy blend of playfulness, sweetness, and pure entertainment. I loved that Sawyer didn’t add any unwanted angst or drama and kept the focus primarily on Lucas and Stephanie as they tried to work out their relationship.

#LUCAS

When Lucas attends a charity benefit at a museum, he is greeted by the beautiful Stephanie Frazier, a museum curator. Both Lucas and Stephanie are attracted to one another and so they agree to a night of just sex. Fast forward to a couple weeks later, Stephanie informs Lucas that she is pregnant and he is the baby daddy.

Lucas, of course is naturally shocked and is willing to take responsibility. Since Lucas and Stephanie will be having a baby, Lucas wants to really know Stephanie. As these two begin to spend more time together, Lucas discovers that Stephanie had a very different childhood than he did. He discovers why she is very independent and stand-offish when it comes to love. Since Stephanie never experienced love, will Lucas be able to show her what love feels like?

df4dc08f868f24a7b0c3180a3f3186Here’s my put up or shut up. I’m in fucking so much love with you I can’t sleep at night. Half the time I don’t think I can breathe because I miss you so much. I don’t want to be friends with you, and I don’t want a casual fuck. I want you to let me love you. I want you to love me back equally.”

Lucas and Stephanie had the sexual aspect of their relationship down and so I loved that we got to see another side to their relationship when we finally got to see Stephanie’s fears and brokenness be healed by Lucas and his family. Lucas is definitely your feel good read. This book was brimming with lots of love and charm that you can’t help but fall in love with Fournier family. As always, Sawyer Bennett gives her readers a love story that was both sweet and sexy. Overall, Lucas was another great addition to this series and I can’t wait to see what is in store for Fournier’s baby sister in Van’s book.

I started this series a long time ago and I loved the first couple of books. Somehow along the way, I lost track of it and now it seems I skipped a couple of books. No worries though.. I will be rectifying my mistake ;)

tenor.gif (498×262)

I am known to read my books out of order and I had no problem reading this one as a stand alone...but... I would still advice everyone to read the previous books first. A lot of characters from those books make an appearance, and Lucas also played a part in the previous book. So I think it would make the reading experience better if you do ;)

I am a huge hockey fan... I have no idea how this came to be, but big man with huge hockey sticks really do it for me :P

original.png (1470×1008)

I had no idea who Lucas was when I dove into this one, but I am glad I got to meet him. He is Max's brother (book 7) and also a player for the "Cold Fury" hockeyteam.... He is also quite the womanizer. He isn't looking for anything serious, and he likes his life just as is. The only thing that really matters to him is hockey and being the best he can be.

Stephanie feels the same way. She isn't looking for a relationship either, so when these two come together.. It's a match made in heaven, both just looking to have some fun....and they do have some amazing fun ;)

7352800.gif (400×200)

This fun however, leads to a an unexpected result. An unexpected result that brings these two closer and closer. They go from strangers having some fun, to friends with benefits, to lovers.

Stephanie had her own reasons for being who she was. Now I liked this heroine, but I didn't love her, she frustrated me a bit too much. I liked the hero way more ;) What I also liked was the delicious chemistry between these two !

Jealous-or-aroused.gif (500×357)

All in all, this was a light, sweet and sexy sports romance, and I will definitely go back and read some of the others. There was some angst, but not too much.

I liked this book a lot. So far, I have enjoyed every book in this series so I went into this book with pretty high expectations and I am happy to say that they were met. Each book in this series has featured a member of the Cold Fury Hockey team but that is really where the similarities end. I am kind of amazed by how different each of these stories really are and I think that is why I still get excited when I learn about a new book being released. Lucas is the eighth book in the series but it can easily be read as a stand alone novel.

The book focuses on Lucas and Stephanie. Their story has an unusual start since the book opens with them sharing a rather hot one-night stand. That one night stand leads to a more lasting situation. Lucas and Stephanie must figure out how they make things work out. It was really very interesting to see this pair get to know each other.

Lucas was really the star of this book for me. He was so patient with Stephanie and seemed to instinctively know the right thing to say and do. He does have a couple of bonehead moments and there was a couple of times that I caught myself cringing because of him but these things made him seem a little more real. I am still trying to completely forgive him for one scene.

Stephanie was a bit more frustrating. She really seems to have her act together but she is terribly afraid of getting close to anyone. She had a terrible childhood and it made sense that she would approach relationships with caution. I wanted so much for her to give Lucas a real chance and I couldn't help but get a bit frustrated, kind of like Lucas, when she resisted.

I would recommend this book and series to others. Fans of the series will be happy to see quite a bit of the characters featured in Max since Lucas and Max are brothers. I can't wait to read the next book in this wonderful series!

I received an advance reader edition of this book from Random House Publishing Group - Loveswept via NetGalley.

Initial Thoughts
I loved Lucas. Stephanie was okay but Lucas was the star of the story for me. I did think that everything seemed to wrap up a little too easily but enjoyed the story overall.

Dude. I REALLY wanted to love this one. LUCAS by Sawyer Bennett just didn't blow me away. After all my status updates and love for our MC, and towards the climax of the story, I really, REALLY got turned off by Lucas' behaviour and attitude.

Let's just call a spade a spade. As lovely as Lucas was when he was happy and getting laid, his immaturity when he didn't get exactly what he wanted when he wanted it turned him into a D-Bag. I was so hot and cold for his character I don't know if he redeems himself by the end for me. He had such wonderful scenes filled with grace and kindness during key moments, but lacked propriety when he needed it most. On top of all that, our female MC, Stephanie, was incredibly frustrating. I empathized with her familial situation but felt the repetitive "poor me" behaviour became a little too much.

Not loving the two MC's, frustrated with the LACK of hockey, but loving the passion and sex between Luc and Stephy, as well as enjoying someone of the side characters and hearing about past couples through out Bennett's "Cold Fury Series", I'm actually a bit sad with the turn out of the 8th instalment. Parts of me loved so many of the special moments shared with Luc and Stephy-the ones hidden away and locked up tight. While others made me want to cry and I felt for all involved.

I think it may be time to hang up the skates on this series. However I do note that there are at least two more to come. I'll probably read them because I'm so invested at this point. And with the way Bennett chose to end this one (with lack of character info), I need to find out what happens next. I liiiiked it. Didn't love it.

Lucas is a standalone and is part of the Cold Fury series.

I must warn you! Be very careful when you read the reviews you don’t want any spoilers. I won’t spoil anything in the book, but I just want to say again, BE VERY careful in reading reviews. If you plan on reading this book anyhow, just do it. Read it blindly because it’s the best way. Or just read the blurb and if it seems like it’s a book for you, then go for it.

I’ve read several books in the series and some have been better than others and I have to say I enjoyed Lucas. He’s like the typical male hero, he’s a player and doesn’t want to commit, until he meets Stephanie.

Stephanie was a difficult character to warm up to. I liked her, I just didn’t love her at first. She’s very cold and distant. Her parents are fairly unloving and thus has made Stephanie very guarded and she has a HUGE wall around her heart. She pushes almost away and you can understand her situation. She doesn’t even have a best friend.

Something unexpected happens and everything changes for the both of them.

What I liked reading most about this book was the dynamics between Stephanie and Lucas. I found the chemistry between them cute and they had a friends with benefits kind of relationship going on.

You also get plenty of the previous characters in the book and that is always fun to read too.

Lucas was a meaty book with low angst, but a lot of character development and buildup. I would have liked it to be a touch faster, but there’s something about a book when the author tries really hard to make sure the two main characters fit and with Stephanie and Lucas they do.

Did you know it's statistically impossible for a professional hockey player not to get laid if he feels like it? Why would I ever give that up?

I've said it before (see review for MAX, see again review for ROMAN) but this time I mean it. I'm done with the Cold Fury Hockey series. What I remember as being a really great, fun, sexy, enjoyable, sports romance series has really taken a sharp downward turn that immediately coincided with terrible cover-style changes. Coincidence? I think not.

[..] I'm not afraid of fucking anything except perhaps intimacy and love.

LUCAS features two leads I didn't care for; one from a wealthy but neglectful home who prides herself on independence and yet contradicts herself constantly regarding her feelings and her lack of them, and who, upon her epiphany towards the self-titled character, didn't inspire any relief in me for finally coming to terms with things. I just rolled my eyes. 'nough said. The other, Lucas, well.. he was both the kind of guy who would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it (aww) and yet would also throw childish temper tantrums (not so aww). Any good in him was often being negated by his other actions. But Stephanie was definitely, in my opinion, the worst of the two offenders.

Just because I totally freaked out on him and we're no longer together doesn't mean I don't still care for him. <-- after telling him she had no feelings. I wish I was making this up, kiddies.

If the leads weren't bad enough, we have a minefield of questionable dialogue, poorly executed emotional scenes and even more immature or frustrating/annoying secondary characters -- though I did like seeing Max and Jules & co in the background -- and I just, overwhelmingly, felt like this story had been produced in a rather half-assed manner with little effort.

A knock at the door startles me and I know it's Luc, not because I don't have any family or friends who would come knocking**, but because I have an internal buzzing*** that just occurred and my body knows it's him.

** except even at twentyfive percent we already know enough to know she has no family or friends who would come knocking so I don't understand the point of this.
*** I can only sigh.

But even Max, and the briefest mention of Garrett, are not enough to redeem this read (which is probably a meh two-star worthy book but I just can't even award it that much considering all my complaints) or stick with a series I've questioned continuing for over two books now. And knowing it's Simone and Van who are next just solidifies my resolve. Thanks for the fun early on in the series, Bennett. But we are definitely now parting ways. This is me consciously uncoupling from your books.

Also, shoutout to all the book buddies who held my hand through this read. I sent you enough screenshots that you should definitely add this one to your 'read' pile and count it towards your GR goal.

So here we continue the story of Cold Fury series. With Lucas, I found the story is OK read. It seems Miss Bennet repeating old formula of typical sport romance. What is refreshing on this story is the heroine. She is the typical of no string attach sex kind of gal. Usually this character is more in the heor character.

The plot/ twist of the story is standard. Nothing major twist. There is that insta lust/ insta love. Not so much of character development. In some part I found the chemistry between the characters are stiff and forced.

Overall this is OK read

Another great Cold Fury book. Lucas was all kinds of yummy, just like his brother Max. Now Stephanie I wanted to smack upside the head every other page. Lots of previous Cold Fury peeps.

Now Van, Lucas' roommate, is up next. He's so grumpy and dirty I really want him to be a person who would visit Ms. Bennett's Wicked Horse.

Talk about melting the ice rink!! Lucas was sexy, mischievous, sweet and infuriating that he believe it or not, he's so far become my favorite Cold Fury player!

He doesn't believe in relationships yet he knows when he was to own up and do the right thing, because he was brought up that way.

Now Stephanie, I liked her a lot until her past started dictating what her future needed or should be. As she and Lucas tried to come to terms with the outcome of their "hookup" I felt she was the one that just would not budge!!

I wanted to shake her up and say "Listen here woman, if you don't get your sh$t together, the best thing that has come into your life will disappear as fast as he came in"!!! It took some time and screaming on my part but Stephanie made a turn for the better ;-)

Beware, you should read this book when you are alone and have the necessary drinks in hand because it was one that had me wanting to throw my tablet one too many times. I can't wait to read Van's story!!! 4 Stars

Not cold... hot, hot, hot....

This Cold Fury series is full of all the deliciously good things – hockey, hockey players, family and scorching hot love. And Lucas is back! I’ve been waiting for this charmer’s story and it’s no surprise that he gets down and dirty with his leading lady from the very start…. Lucas sizzles as a new member of the Cold Fury family and his focus is completely on his team and the drive for the Cup. When Stephanie crosses his path, it’s insta-lust on both sides, with nothing promised but a very, very good time. Until, plans changed…

Sizzling. Funny. Confused. Is this love, lust or obligation? Oh, the problems started early as I dove into this hotbed of humour, passion and discord. When you’re on the same page, all is good. When you’re not? Well, it’s a ragged mix of lust, tenderness and the furthest thing from harmony you could feel. And feel I did as Stephanie’s pain couldn’t be kept hidden. With Lucas’ charm and humour, and genuine good nature, fighting through it all with her, it’s not hard to see why their journey had my undivided attention…

“I come from a family that’s so fucked up we took the ‘function’ out of ‘dysfunctional’ in all of the psychiatry books.”

Family is the root of both their biggest issues and their greatest strength. Lucas and Stephanie’s chemistry is undeniable though so whether they are in bed or out, fighting or loving, their connection is undeniable. Do they both say, and do, things that make you shake your head? Absolutely. But even that can’t take away from a courtship that had me reading their story in one completely satisfied sitting…

And I was happy. Completely. Until I read the teasing words that is going to be cranky Van’s story. If I was waiting with bated breath for Lucas, Van may take away any oxygen left. Bring on Van! -Diane, 4 stars

Lucas was the eighth book in the Cold Fury Hockey series by Sawyer Bennett.

Lucas Fournier was a star NHL player on the reigning Stanley Cup team, the Carolina Cold Fury. He was gorgeous, a playboy and the younger brother to Max (book six).

Stephanie Frazier met Lucas at a charity event for the Museum. Stephanie was the queen of one night stands with zero entanglements. She had a very cold and unemotional childhood which taught her to be fully independent, relying on no one - not family or friends.

Bennett quickly outlined the attraction and passion between the two, yielding nothing more than a satisfactory hook up. Once pregnancy came into the picture, the many layers of Stephanie came into play. I loved Lucas from the start and as the storyline progressed, I loved him even more. Stephanie was a puzzle - one that I sometimes liked and then other times...not so much.

Although hockey was Lucas' profession and there were references, it was secondary to the relationship unveiling between Stephanie and Lucas. The sole focus of the storyline really was centered around Stephanie's insecurities and breaking down the multitude of walls around her entire persona.

Although the story was well written, there were several editing errors filtered throughout the book. Otherwise, it was an enjoyable, entertaining and quick read. The brooding and anti-social Van is up next in the series.

❝Best. Hookup. Ever.❞

Lucas Fornier is the brother of Max. He came from a loving, supportive family. Lucas enjoyed being the center of attention, his world was full of friends and women. However, due to a past relationship where his girlfriend saw only dollar signs when she looked at him, one night stands were better than relationships. He loves hockey and is always up for a great time.  He hadn't been with the Cold Fury hockey team for long when he was invited to a benefit at a local museum. Counting down the minutes til he could leave the benefit, a redheaded beauty catches his attention. Not only is she gorgeous, she's funny and fun to be around.  But she's also every single guy's dream. She doesn't want a relationship, she just wants a great, one-night-stand!

Museum curator Stephanie Frazier has learned to navigate the world on her own.  She's strong-willed, a hard worker and single. She came from parents who treated her as if she was a burden. Never having been shown she was worthy of love, she learned to not trust anyone could love her for simply being her. She learned to live her life solely dependent upon herself. She enjoyed men, of the one-night-stand variety.
❝For someone who craved to just be noticed for so long and never got it, sex filled a big void for me. And the best thing about casual sex was that I could walk away if I wanted, because I found that I really wasn't prepared for something more than a brief fling. Anything else was too overwhelming.

A great pair right? Neither wants a long term commitment, both enjoy sex. What could go wrong?

What I really loved about this book was getting Lucas's and Stephanie's POVs. It made Lucas that much more endearing. Lucas really is a great guy! Getting Stephanie's POV helped to understand her reactions a little more. She was not written as a likable character because she's standoffish from the start. But that is her character, not a flaw in the writing.

I have enjoyed this series and Lucas was no exception. While it wasn't a 5-star read, I did like it. It was just slow for me in parts and the internal dialogue dragged down the pacing.

Something Sawyer Bennett does really well is she makes you want to read the next book in the series. That Epilogue! OMG! I hope Van lives up to it!

We're back with the hotties from the Carolina Hockey team!

This time we have new guy Luc. He's the brother of Max - from two books back. ☺
He's just been in town for a few weeks and already had to attend one of those lame charity thingies at a museum.
But that's where he meets Steph.
Both are SO not in the market for something serious. Steph believes she will never be in the market for that - due to her horrible life growing up. And Luc is defintely not yet ready for his HEA! He knows what he wants one day: the same hing he grew up with - a loving home and family life.
But not yet. That's why Steph and Luc have only this one amazing night together.
Only that one night leaves behind a little surprise and now they have to be in each other's live a bit longer, maybe even forever ....

WHAT WiLL HAPPEN TO LUCAS & STEPH????
WiLL THERE BE A HAPPiLY EVER AFTER?
READ THE BOOK TO FIND OUT! ☺☺☺

Finally a new book in this adorable Hockey series.

LUCAS!!!!

He's Max's brother and he's rooming with other new team member Van - who will be the next book's hero! (I just know that his and Simone's story will be verrry interesting!!)

Luc is such a fun guy. He loves his life. His sport. His family. Everything is perfect.
And then he meets Steph. And their lives get mixed up for the unforseeable future. And she's so not like him. She had horrible parents. She's scared to trust anyone.
But of course Lucas will convince her to give them a chance!

It was all so very adorable but also frustrating, because it takes Steph such a long time to get where Luc already is ... in love.
I loved reading it! Sexy, adorable, funny, moving - great romance!!!!

LUCAS was another super-adorable, sexy, funny and moving addition to this great series! Run to your nearest amazon for your own Luc - this one is MINE!!!!!

... and now hurry Sawyer - I want VAN asap!!!!!

I had some problems with the writing...as with every Sawyer book. It's Sawyer's and my THING ☺ It's only me who has those problems with her writing. So please don't be worried or just scroll down and don't read the following...
I have a HUGE AS problem! It wasn't mega-bad in this book though!!!☺ You know the AS's I'm talking about? The AS that could be exchanged for a SINCE or BECAUSE or just a comma.☺ It's a British and or legal thing (if it's a thing at all!) and it doesn't have anything to do in an American book by an American author. I would be ok with it if one (British) character would use it, but everyone uses it! I really don't want to insult Sawyer. I love her books, but ... please stop doing it. But pfff who am I to tell her what to do, so just forget I said anything! It doesn't stop her books from being great!

Lucas is the 8th book in the Cold Fury Hockey series and I feel like I could never get enough of these guys! What I loved about a series being long is how you get small glimpses of past characters. Of course, it's not as detailed as before but Sawyer Bennett never forgets to mention Alex or Garrett which I find great because I'm attached to these guys from the start and seeing they are in a good place is always a huge plus.

If you don't recall who is Lucas Fournier and/or if you haven't read any book in the series yet, now worries, the book is a complete standalone but it also give you the opportunity to know who's who. You won't be lost in this now big family of hockey players.

I particularly enjoyed this story because of how Lucas is. He's such a sweet & great guy knowing what he wants and what he doesn't. Stephanie was kind of the same way. She has a strong personality and knows that if she wants to have a good time with a man she goes for it without any expectation. She even prefer it that way.

I don't read a lot of books with unexpected pregnancy because I find it more convenient than anything. It's not a surprise I like to read about but here as it's the main subject I was interested to know how Sawyer Bennett will manage to make me like the book. And well she did! As always if I may add.

Lucas & Stephanie's attraction was obvious but being a parent and being involved doesn't come in one day. Even if these two have lots in common and Stephanie's way of thought is a huge obstacle to an HEA.

The only thing I wanted different is a true epilogue for Lucas & Stephanie even if I have to admit I'm literally dying to have Van's book with all the tension we got to witness.

A wonderfully sweet, sexy and heartfelt hockey romance that was captivating and fun to read.

One of Lucas Fournier’s dream just came true, that is to play pro-hockey alongside his older brother Max. The only thing that could top that would be to win the cup. A goal that very much within the Cold Fury’s grasp as long as they make a concentrated effort to do so. That means Lucas needs to keep his focus on hockey and not the sexy museum curator who’s presented a much unexpected surprise.

When Stephanie Frazier met Luc at a museum’s gala fundraiser and felt the attraction between them, she didn’t hesitate to act on it because what could be de harm in having a no strings attached fling with a very handsome and charismatic man? She’s not interested in a relationship and after one of the best and most passionate nights of her life, she only expected to see Luc on TV during his games. But life seldom turns out the way one expects and now their lives will be forever linked. Can Luc convince the relationship-adverse Stephanie that they belong together?

Lucas was further along on my reading scheduled, but having a book by Sawyer Bennett in my eReader was super tempting. I just couldn’t wait to jump in and I’m so happy I did because I thoroughly enjoyed it. It’s everything I love about romance, flirty, sexy and swoony with a dash of angst and definitely earnest with great pacing and solid writing.

It’s a story about family and love. It’s about feeling completely alone in the world and unable to trust anyone else but yourself but finding that there are people and relationships worth holding onto and fighting for. Both Lucas and Stephanie are wonderfully flawed. They’re both young and inexperienced but are faced with a situation in which they need with maturity.

I loved both of them equally. Even though Lucas wasn’t interested in a relationship when the story started, he’s a sweet alpha male with strong family values, deeming Max his best friend and chatting with mother before each game for good luck. Knowing that Stephanie would be a sexy fixture in his life, he doesn’t hesitate to pursue her with relentless patience and thoughtfulness. But because no one is perfect, Lucas has his own struggles.

When I mention Stephanie are flawed I meant Stephanie is broken. I loved that she’s super strong and completely independent but had a childhood devoid of love which hindered her from seeking or even believing in it. It is heartbreakingly sad watching her become a part of the Fournier clan and not being able to accept their friendship and support easily.

It is up to Lucas to break down the impenetrable walls that protect her heart and help her accept her new reality. It’s definitely a difficult journey for both but equally satisfying. I hurt for them, but mostly they made me laugh, smile and blush.

Lucas is book #8 in the Cold Fury series by Sawyer Bennett. It is a sexy and touching story, it's a fast and easy to read standalone sports romance. A must for Cold Fury fans. Told from both points of view and has a happy ending.

Lucas is the 8th book in Cold Fury Hockey series. Another great entry into the professional world of hockey.

Lucas is enjoying the life of a single guy in the world of professional sports where women and money are aplenty.

Stephanie is an independent woman enjoying her single/professional life. The two of them meet and have one night of fun that leads to an unplanned pregnancy.

Watching these two navitagate how to keep their independence but also be committed to each other is entertaining. Stephanie doesn't want to rely on anyone because of the way she was raised. She came from a wealthy family who didn't make time for their child. She learned to only depend on herself. Meanwhile, Lucas is trying NOT to suffocate her as she figures out her way in her career and personal life.

A great thing about this series is the reader gets to hear about the other players and their love interest. It's fun to see what they are up to.

Sports lovers will enjoy this series of hot guys on the ice.

Nobody writes SEXY and SWEET hockey sports romances quite like Sawyer Bennett! The Cold Fury Hockey Series has quickly become one of my FAVORITE sports romance series out there today. LUCAS is the eighth installment in the series and it can be read as a complete standalone. In this sizzling read we are introduced to Lucas Fournier and Stephanie Frazier and OH BOY does it get HOT right off the bat! I’m not giving anything away in this review, but if you read the blurb carefully enough, you get an idea of what you’re in for with these two characters.

This kind of romance has to be tough to write because depending on how the characters handles this particular situation could set the mood for the entire read. I was hesitant at first, but Bennett handled it with grace and the characters reacted accordingly. That’s not to say that my stomach didn’t completely plummet a few times, but getting that kind of reaction from readers is what it’s all about. The author could have added some unnecessary angst, the kind we usually see with this storyline, but she didn’t and I will be forever grateful. I’m not sure how much more I could have handled. It was the right amount of drama, the right amount of angst for this particular setting.

With Lucas and Stephanie, the chemistry was there. The heat was there. The excitement was there. But they were thrown for one hell of a loop and they tried to make the best of it while going through the ups and downs that are definitely normal in this situation. I know I’m being vague, and it is probably necessary, and the next review you read will lay it all on the table, but that’s not my job. My job is to tell you how GREAT this author’s work is and how freaking sexy, sweet, and entertaining LUCAS was. In my mind, every single thing that Sawyer Bennett writes is a must read. I just think that this right here, is her absolute specialty and she doesn’t disappoint AT ALL!

Oh! And she sets us up for the next book in the series as well! Van is up next and I can’t freaking wait how his life will be turned upside down by a certain someone’s baby sister! BRING IT ON is all I have left to say!

I’m going to let you’ll in on a secret, I’m a huge believer in fate and in Lucas by Sawyer Bennett the hero and heroine get a big, heaping dose of it following an explosive one night stand. Two people from very different upbringings, but both committed to NOT being committed, find their lives turned upside down when their night of passion leaves them expecting the unexpected. Complicated and contentious but also sweet and sexy, Lucas was a bit of a disappointment in what has been a stellar series.

Life couldn’t be better for Lucas Fournier; traded to the Carolina Cold Fury gives him the opportunity to play on the same team as his brother, their team is headed towards the playoffs, he never lacks for female companionship, and being near his brother and his soon to be sister in law and their three kids has him feeling settled and happy. Meeting Stephanie Frazier at a museum fundraiser seems like the answer to get him out of the benefit and in to doing something a lot more fun.

Interim curator Stephanie Frazier is happy to help out with the museum fundraiser and equally happy to meet Cold Fury team member Lucas Fournier, but one night with him changes her life in more ways than one. Neglected since birth Stephanie is caught up in a wave of self doubt and scared out of her mind and the more time she spends with Luc, the harder she fights to retain her solitary life.

While both Luc and Stephanie were scared and shocked finding out they had a baby on the way, it didn’t take long for Luc to accept and become excited at the prospect of being a dad, and Stephanie was fully on board with having a baby and a bit shocked Luc planned to not only see her through the pregnancy but his plan to co-parent their child. Being that Luc is Max’s brother, it was no surprise that he soon began to see the possibility of more with Stephanie, but he also understood she was not ready to hear it. I’ll be honest Stephanie was a tough character for me to like, I felt angry for the way she was brought up and the absolute disregard of her parents, and while I could understand it was hard for her to trust, to let people in and to believe she could be loved, I was also screaming at her to find a good therapist and figure it out if not for her own sake for that of her unborn child because I’m telling you she frustrated me to no end multiple times in this book which is why I could also understand Luc’s frustration when he flew off the handle. At times I felt this book was on a loop and the same issues between them kept going around and around and it got old. I loved the character of Lucas and the secondary characters, but Stephanie’s self loathing and harshness just got old. She was built up as a strong character, yet she didn’t seek help with her issues and given everything going on in her life you would think she was smart enough to realize she needed to, she wouldn’t talk to people who were so willing to listen and help her, and she refused financial help from someone who could well afford it and who wanted to do his part to provide for his child. So much of this book was about their sexual connection which is all fine and good, but I wanted to see them TRULY connect on an emotional level and it just wasn’t there.

While there were parts of Lucas I really enjoyed many other parts just fell flat leaving me disappointed as I had high hopes for this book.

I enjoyed Lucas by Sawyer Bennett.
It was sweet, hot, emotional, heartbreaking and at times frustrating.
The plot is well written, the characters were likable, endearing and I grew to loved them both.
Lucas and Stephanie come from two very different emotional worlds, one has grown up with love, family support, encouragement and the knowledge of whatever might happen in life he will always have his loved ones support and love.
The other grew up feeling like she was never enough, that she was a disappointment and that all the money in the world didn't buy you love and happiness.

My heart went out to Stephanie, I really connected with her and while some might find her stubbornness and her emotionally closed off personality a little off putting, I totally got her.
I felt her fear of being loved and I felt her fear of motherhood. When someone has never had this how can you know any better? How can you know you won't follow the road you've grown up with?
It's easy to say you'll do what you never had and always craved for but sometimes the brain is hard to convince otherwise.

Lucas was sweet, supportive, hot and just an overall nice guy that quickly won my heart.
I loved watching him fall in love, he made me swoon and I was touched with his determination to get through Stephanie's mile high walls. He was the perfect man for Stephanie, even after his stupid hurtful words that were said in anger and left me wanting to punch him lol
He knew he effed up and watching him win back Stephanies trust and heart left me full of happy feels.

Overall, Lucas is a fun, sweet and hot read that will bring out the feels and after reading that epilogue leave you craving for Van's book to hurry up and get released asap lol

Lucas by Sawyer Bennett is a great addition the Cold Fury Hockey series, each book can be read as a standalone and I highly recommend them all.

LUCAS releases September 19th.

I love the fact that I never know what I'm going to get from Sawyer Bennett. She switches things up with every story she produces. Book 6 is Lucas' brother Max and Jules story. It was very low angst and romantic. Then Lucas and Stephanie's story is the complete opposite. It's not exactly romantic and it was high angst, yet I love both books equally.

Lucas and Stephanie are together because of a result of a one night stand. Neither want to settle down but are adults and can work together, as well as take advantage of the chemistry these two have for each other. It's very much a no strings relationship and Lucas soon realizes Stephanie doesn't know how to have more.

Stephanie had a very cold upbringing and really doesn't know what love is. Lucas has a very affectionate and loving upbringing. The way Lucas handled her insecurities and knew when to press and then when to back off made me really love his character. For being such a playboy before her and then making no fuss about being an adult about their situation won a lot points with me. He wasn't perfect and he did mess up but he came back strong.

It's actually kind of nice to see the man have to work for the relationship for once. Stephanie's insecurities can get a bit tiring but it also gave us that chance to see Lucas be an amazing Hero. I do wish we got to see them more as a couple once Stephanie risked her heart to Lucas, but I know we'll see them in future books since we got to see past couples in this one.

The epilogue was completely hot! It was a glimpse into the next book with Van and Simone. Wow! That small glimpse into Van...I have no words. ARC provided by NetGalley.

Liked it, but didn't love it. The book had everything it needed for a good read, but just fell somewhat flat for me. The premise and plot was flimsy at best. I didn't care much for Stephanie, the closed off personality bit went on far too long. There was also too much sex drowning out what little storyline there really was. If there had not been bits about the previous couples and about the team, I might not have finished it.

I really liked Lucas, though; every bit as much as big brother Max. While not a great read, it was still pretty good; and I will continue this series. The ending left open some interesting possibilities for teammate Van.
