"Soggy bottom" is a phrase that conjures images unrelated to baking. But I'm not a baker. I'm not a diaper-changer, either.

Book 7 and finally we find out that one character is queer. But this is still better than J. K. Rowling.

The cake contest theme of Victoriana: it's striking how different the meaning of Victorian is to different characters. Victoriana makes me think of aesthetics: literature, fashion, art, architecture, and interior design.

Paul Hollywood, no sorry, Raoul Scurrysnood makes his debut in the Wonky Inn series.

I loved this book from the Dedication onwards.

But it is especially dedicated to Kim-Joy from GBBO 2018 because it was while I was watching her decorate her cakes using teeny tiny British wildlife characters that I first spawned the idea for this novel.

Florence and Millicent are two of my favorite of the side characters and they really shine in this book, I would have added in the final ¼ star if Raoul

Let them eat cake!

Terrific, though a couple of proofing errors have crept in (most unusual). A great tongue in cheek take off of all the baking competitions that have been shown on TV. A murder, a contestant that is to shaken to take part and what appears to be sabotage at the Inn all lead to a delightful tale in which Florence is one of the key players. The interaction between the characters lends more depth to the story and definitely more colour.
She can't wait for everyone to arrive for the filming of her favourite baking competition. However some of the crew are more than unhelpful, in fact they are downright demeaning about her Inn. Things don't get any better the next day when a body is found by a distraught newly arrived contestant. Now they need someone to take the empty spot - Florence! Add in sabotage, a newly arrived couple, date night that turns into a group date, weevils, food poisoning and a ghost in love then stir well with Wilf's particular sense of right and wrong and saviour the results. Will they find the killer? Will Florence win? Will they all survive?

Wonky Inn Series:
The Wonkiest Witch: Wonky Inn Book #1 - This is my first read by this author and I enjoyed the story. As I became wrapped up in the pages, I started enjoying the storylines and the characters and wondering how much witch Alf would become. Since I've been reading about witches a lot lately, I get bored when I come across another witch refusing to be herself. Why deny what you are; do you give yourself a lobotomy if you're intelligent and want to dumb down to normal? One of my role models, as a kid, was Samantha Stevens, she remained true to herself, and an independent woman, regardless of her silly husband's demands; unlike Jeannie, a beautiful, two-legged Labrador (eager to please her master). Ms. Wycherley's writing style is conversational and casual. The likable and interesting characters are developing at a good rate and will probably gain more depth as the series continues. The storylines do a good job setting the foundation from which the series will build. Once the intros are made there's plenty of intrigue and suspense. A fire opens a can of troubles bringing the witch in Alf to full acceptance. A unique use of ghosts, which I've never read. I'm curious about the rest of the stories. I found this author on and her book through Booksprout. 4*

The Ghosts of Wonky Inn #2 - As much as I liked the first book, I loved this one. I absolutely love the ghosts and what they can actually do. This is one of the things I love about this series; plus the fact that the witch uses magic instead of denying who she is. The variety of ghostly characters are great. I couldn't put the book down, I was so immersed in the fast paced, funny and intriguing storylines. The characters range in personalities, eras and locations, lending the story depth and substance. 5*

Weird Wedding At Wonky Inn #3 - The additions to this series just keep getting better. Another hard to put down story. I love some of the guest characters; especially when she hit him (read the story), although why use blackmail in this case? Alf mixes a party with a vampire wedding and wonders what else is going to happen; lots do happen. Great-grandmother brings her share to the table and then splits, leaving a spot of bother. George is great with his acceptance of the vamps since he didn't get on board quickly about Alf being a witch previously; what trust is that. The past is over for Alf as she finds the Mori is still about. Oh, speaking of the past, how about crazed villagers and a burning (read the story). That's all the spoilers I've giving out. There's more but I want you to enjoy the book like I did, without a book report. 4*

Fearful Fortunes and Terrible Tarot #4 - I can't get enough of this series. I enjoy the characters and their functions throughout the series. This one has almost everyone undercover. Another well thought out addition full of intrigue and suspense, and humor. The storylines are developing and there's definitely bad news ahead. This book is darker than the previous ones and Alf gets to experience what witches suffered through centuries past. I didn't care for the ending; of course for the main reason (read the book) and Alf's attitude was nonchalant concerning that reason. I did enjoy Mama Henri, a voodoo queen from NOLA. 4*

The Mystery of the Marsh Malaise #5 - I absolutely love this series. You never know what to expect from Ms. Wycherley and her crew. Just when you think you know what's going to happen, there's a twist and you're off again working it out. The characters grow on you and the ghosts are a big part of the enjoyment. Yes, there's some darkness in this story; you've the good vs. the bad, plus a lot more in the storylines. There's a new ghost and he's great; I enjoyed what he and another ghost did to help Alf. With George, you know he's going to be found sooner or later, but what else is found and the result is hilarious. Alf is still my type of witch and she keeps kickin' it. Read these books sequentially, it is worth the time invested. A good, clean story full of interesting characters of all sorts and well thought out storylines with twists you just don't see coming sometimes.5*

The Mysterious Mr Wylie #6 – Entertaining and intriguing. Good storylines continued and new make this an interesting series. The past and the present come together with a bit of time travel to 1983, not a time I would have picked. The pace is fast and the characters, old and new, along with the humor help keep the reader immersed in the pages. It is great to see D back and he adds a bit of sexual tension to mix; good banter between him and A. 4*

The Great Witchy Cake Off #7 – There is a whole lot of intrigue with the murder, and pas and possible new love interest. I was happy with all the baking and not one bite available for me to sample, which is so sad since all the desserts sounded worthwhile to indulge with a cuppa. Again, there are good storylines, good characters with appearances from previous books and plenty of additional features in the background making Number 7 a toothy read. After reading so many of this series, it is hard not to get into a book report instead of a review, but I’ll let you discover that for yourself. 4*

Vengeful Vampire at Wonky Inn #8 - while it started slow for me, I was not in the mood for vampires, the pace picked up and I was immersed in the captivating storylines and good characters. This ended up being a good read. The author's talented blending of old and new storylines, vivid descriptions, I fell in love with Romania again, and her creative creation of characters made this story hard to put down once everything came together. Plenty of intrigue and suspense with touches of humor and romance. I contacted the author to review her books and received this book through Booksprout. 4*

The Witch Who Killed Christmas - If you at all can, read the other books first, there's spoilers. Another well written, entertaining story that starts around Christmas, just months later after Wonkiest ended. While not as intriguing as Wonkiest, there was a difficult problem to solve. The cast of interesting characters are still around. The writing style is still casual with humor and drama dispersed throughout the story, this is a quickly read novella. 4*

Magic, Murder and a Movie Star, #10 - I laughed myself silly with the names of the Witchywood movie cast. Fun. Entertaining. Good story lines with a seamless blending of the old with the new. The characters are always good in this series; you cannot help but love the regular crew and some of the new ones. Lovely surprise for Alfhind near the end. Well written and well thought out. 5*

Judge, Jury and Jailhouse Rockcakes, #11 - A wonderful story with plenty of humor through out the drama, a good balance. Well written and well thought out, the story lines were interesting and the book was hard to put down. Professor Dodo appears in this story; his interesting story is the first of the Wonderland Detective Agency series. Alf's experience as a Goblin is entertaining while performing a great deal of investigations in record time. 5*

A Midsummer Night’s Wonky, #12 - A lot of serious business going on this time around. There is a heatwave that does not help. 80 degrees F in Germany is almost as bad as 100 deg F in Texas, so imagine 70s in the UK. A whole lot of love is happening, including Manc and Silvan, which creates havoc for C and A. A good story. 4*

Pieces of Hate, #15 - It has been a long time since I read Vengeful Vampire at Wonky Inn, #8. I worried about missing the several books between Vengeful and Pieces. Silly me, it was like I never left. I still remembered the characters from the previously read stories. Pieces was fun and interesting, and I did not put the book down until the last page. It was enjoyable to return to Wonky Inn, and this story did not disappoint. Wonky Inn is one of my favorite series to get lost in at any time. 5*
Wonky Inn Series End.

Wonderland Detective Agency series.
Dead as a Dodo - I enjoy reading books by this author and this one fits in. There are characters from The Wonky Inn series. Eliseo is a good character along with the rest of the cast. Interesting. Fun. Good story lines. Better than a Cozy mystery. 4*

Alfhild Daemonne (Alf) owns the Wonky Inn, a place that accepts all sorts of paranormals except vampires (from a previous bad experience). The Inn was hosting the Great Witchy Cake Off, and Alf was excited as it was her first experience with a film crew. The excitement builds as the contestants arrive. The TV crew had finished eating and Alf and her ghostly clean up crew were cleaning up when she heard a scream. Her Witch Twitch kicks in and sure enough there was a murder. A organizer for the event, Janice, had a large cake knife in her chest.

This is a wonderfully written cozy paranormal mystery filled with humour, mystery, and great characters. The characters are expertly crafted, well developed, interesting and entertaining. The narrative is done well giving the setting definition and further enhancing the characters’ personalities. The storyline, while easy to read, is complex with a plethora of suspects, numerous clues, twists, turns and surprises that leave you guessing right until the end. There is everything you would want from a cozy paranormal mystery, a murder to solve, romance, misdirection, humour and magic. This is the first book I have read in the series but it won’t be the last. I enjoyed it very much so it can be read as a stand-alone. Looking for a great Witchy mystery, look no further.

Once again, we are entertained by the action that never stops!

Alfhild “Alf” Daemonne, the quirky witch owner of the Wonky Inn, has invited the producers of Witchflix TV’s popular show, “The Great Witchy Cake Off”, to film at the Wonky Inn – publicity for the Inn is always a good thing, right? But with Alf’s typical run of luck being what it is, Janice Tork-Mimosa is murdered -- her body found by a sobbing contestant -- with a silver cake knife embedded in her chest. Needing a quick replacement, they ask Florence the ghost, Alf's long-dead housekeeper, to step in. Once again, Alf has her hands full with keeping an eye on the show while helping to solve the murder! And this time, she may even sneak in a little time for her love life! Who is the murderer? Why was Janice killed? And will Florence win the bake-off this year?

As we have now come to expect, the reader is presented with great writing, great character development, and an escalating story line that gets more intriguing with each new adventure! Don’t miss this one! If you’re new to the series, you will love it! If you’ve been on this journey for some time now, you’ll love seeing our old friends again while also meeting some new ones. It is never a dull moment around the Wonky Inn!

Florence bakes up a Storm.

Alf has agreed to host the filming of the next series of The Great Witchy Cake Off. Florence is over the moon and baking the nicest treats to woo the judges. The television crew will be at the Whittle Inn for just over a week with each week’s episode taking a day to film. on the day that the contestants are due to arrive Alf thinks that she hears a scream and quietly goes to investigate. Horror of horrors, she finds a newly arrived contestant staring at a body! It turns out to be the body of a producer and the police have to be called in. Subsequently, the producers ask Florence to become a contestant as the first lady was too traumatised to continue. So now Alf has lost her housekeeper and baker for the duration.
Poor Alf now has her ex George on the job followed quickly by a visit from Sylvan and his friend Marissa. Then the sabotage begins and you start to wonder what else is going to happen. Alf always puts herself down but somehow, when the chips are down , she manages to get the right people in the right place at the right time. A quirky, enjoyable series in part because the language isn’t Americanised! It’s real educated, Devon English with a few words that are priceless!

The Great Witchy Cake Off - a review by Rosemary Kenny

When will Alf(hild) Daemonne, proprietress and owner of the now-legendary Whittle (aka Wonky) Inn ever have a peaceful and relaxing time while guests enjoy an uneventful stay?

Never, if the events of this rip-roaring romp of novel #7, The Great Witchy Cake Off by Queen of the Supernatural Murder-Mystery, Jeannie Wycherley, is anything to go by, as her excellent Wonky Inn series, that just keeps getting better and better, show.

As can be guessed from the title, this time the Inn is hosting a Witchy version of the popular TV series of a similar name - only, barely has the marquee been erected, when an all-too-human murder results in sabotage, malice and confusion for the many ghosts (who run the inn for Alf), plus the famous visitors and guests.

Get your fingers deep into the layer cake of intrigue and skulduggery so expertly cooked-up by Jeannie Wycherley, in The Great Witchy Cake Off today - it's a spellbinding story that will spirit you away to a spooky wonderland at your favourite haunted hostelry - and see if you can work out who the 'bad egg' in the primetime tv henhouse at Whittle Inn is, before Alf and George do!

Filming reality TV at the Wonky Inn. There is a recipe for disaster.

This is a standalone story in the Wonky Inn series. This is a perfect place to jump in and get a taste of this delightful series. But beware, as the series is highly addictive and you will soon want to read the rest of them.

I have loved the Wonky Inn from the first book I read and I don't see that stopping anytime soon. As usual, the story is very well written and filled with fun and interesting characters. I particularly enjoy the ghosts that inhabit the inn as they are always good for a laugh.

Speaking of which (witch?), the book provides a mystery coupled with a good sense of humor that keeps things from getting too intense. In spite of that, it is a good mystery with plenty of twists and turns to keep the reader guessing. The overall experience is one of delighted fascination, an excellent weekend entertainment. As always, I am left looking forward to the next wonky adventure.

Do you watch the cooking channels and even a bit familiar with the baking shows? Then this book is for you as the title suggests it has bake off. Now add the mystery of someone being killed , the wonkiest inn you ever heard of and enjoy the fun.

Florence, I kept hoping that you were witch in real life but did not know it (maybe a descendant of a famous one?) and that would take care of your issue. Florence you are the best and we all know it.

I love that I get to learn new British words for my American words.

Remember this is book 7 in the series. You can read this book by itself. There are characters that come and go in this series. highly recommend that you read the series. Fun and you will enjoy it.

Hi, Mr Hoo. Love you.

Can someone tell me about Marissa, where was Gywn, and what about Sally? My unanswered questions in this book.

This my honest and freely given review. I did receive an ARC book.

I just finished the latest installment of the Wonky Inn series. In this one, Alf’s Wonky Inn is playing host to the Great Witchy Cake-off. When someone involved with the show is murdered, Alf and her merry band of characters are determined to solve it. There are many clever play on word names for characters from the witchy cake-off, that if you are a fan of the British Bake-off, you’ll immediately recognize and appreciate them for their cleverness; e.g. Fairy Kerry, instead of Mary Berry. I enjoyed the story immensely. It’s whimsical and fast-paced, and Jeannie really has a way with imagery and words enabling the reader to be immersed in the story right away. Word of advice, make sure you aren’t hungry when reading this. Get some treats, coffee or tea and settle in for a good read. I can’t wait to read the next one!

Alf Daemonne has her hands full when the producers of The Great Witchy Cake Off decide to use the Whittle Inn as their base for filming. Things don’t go as planned when the director is found dead and one of the contestants cannot go on. It is Alf to the rescue when she suggests Florence the ghost as a replacement contestant and also assigns herself as the personal sleuth to solve the murder case.

Madcap adventure and hilarity ensue as Alf tries to find the killer, work with her ex-fiance, and finds unexpected guests show up at the inn. Can the cake off event succeed or is there someone behind the scenes trying to sabotage the event? And will Alf find the murderer or will someone else be the next target?
If you enjoy cozy mysteries with quirky characters, humor, mystery, adventure, and a bit of paranormal activities, then you will enjoy this book. In fact, why not give the entire series a try?

Bakes and butchery

Another brilliant story from the famous ( or infamous ) Wonky Inn this one complete with a tv drama another possible love interest for Alf and lots of sneaky goings on that will keep you trying to work out " who dun it " till the last page. If you have ever read a Wonky Inn book before you will love this story and if you haven't then you are really missing out and had best get to reading. It can be read as a stand alone but since most of the characters pop up in all the other books you get a better sense of who is who ( including Mr Hoo ) if you have at least read the first book. New characters arrive and old ones keep reappearing but can Alf find love at last ? Can Florence make her dreams come true ? Can anyone resist such a great series ??????

A Witchy Cake Off
Alf and the employees of The Wonky Inn are hosting a TV crew for the taping of a popular show
"A Witchy Cake Off". Some of the crew are not happy with the inn, and are pretty rude. There is a death, of course, and the show is one contestant short. Guess who gets to fill the spot? I'm not telling, lol. Silvan and Ross are back. Alf goes on a date. Who with? Again, I'm not telling. Over all this is a good story, I have read all of the books so far, and have not been disappointed. Who would be? There are ghosts, witches, vampires, (oh, I forgot to mention, Alf also received a letter from the vampires, wander what they want?) murder and romance. Grab a copy and be prepared to be entertained.

The Great Witchy Cake Off is being filmed at the Wonkey Inn, and as usual, Alf is in the middle of a muddle! When there is a murder, and the crew come down with food poisoning, no one knows whether it is a hit at the TV show - or at Alf and her inn. George has to work with the magic in the area to find the murderer - will he succeed before someone else is hurt? Is Alf still in love with him - or is is Silvan - who has arrived with the beautiful Marrisa on his arm that will hold her heart? I love the fun and fantasy in these stories - suspense that makes them interesting, and love interests that make me smile :-)

Jeannie Wycherley has done it again with the 7th book in this series. I love Alf and all her friends at the Wonky Inn. This time it’s a bake off and Florence becomes a contestant after one drops out...the one that found the body. Of course Florence is overjoyed to be on her favorite show. The descriptions of Florence's cakes were so great that I could picture them in my head!

I really love this series. Alf just has the biggest heart! And all the characters are just so wonderful. They are described in such a way that I feel like I know them. The Wonky Inn is a place I would love to visit and I get to with each new book! You should too!

My favorite thing about this series is the richness and variety of the “family” of characters that we’ve come to know and love. This latest entry in the series does not disappoint. In this book, our favorite ghost maid (and baker!), Florence, has invited her favorite cooking show to come to the Wonky Inn! As you can no doubt imagine, things do not go as smoothly as one might hope! Another fun entry in this series, I think this book is best enjoyed if you’ve read at least one or two other books in the series. You can enjoy it on its own, but it’s much more fun if you know all the characters more intimately. Another winner from author Jeanne Wycherley.

Alf has a TV crew at the Wonky Inn - the latest show of the "Witchy Bake-off" is to be held at the Inn.
When one of the producers is murdered and found by a contestant before the show begins, the crew is one contestant short and they ask Florence to step in.
Between watching the process of making the show and trying to help solve the murder Alf is kept busy.
Like all the other books an entertaining story with lots of quirky characters who make the Wonky Inn stories special and unique in the best way of a cozy mystery.

Alf has lots going on with mail that keeps coming, a staff member who has her time to shine, two guys she has feelings for and a killer on the loose. There is loads of laughs not only at the names of the judges etc from Witchflix TV but the drama's of the heart for Alf then we have the incidents that start to happen in and around the Wonky Inn after the murder that keeps you guessing who it could be and oh how I loved it how young Florence got to finally have her time to shine because the girl really deserves it. ❤

Again I couldn’t put this book down until I finished it, the same as the rest in the series. It is always good to revisit the inn with all the same characters, but with new ones each book to add to the mix. Love the details of the complications of this murder, keeps me guessing as to who the murderer is and why. I also loved the detail of the cakes in the competition. Was disappointed that Alf and Silvin’s romance did not progress very far in this book, hope it does in the next one, can’t wait for it to be out.

I really like this series especially as the characters continue to develop with each novel. One of my favorite parts of this novel is where the MC was out with a group of acquaintances and mentally tallied up her “deficits” in comparison to the other females in the group. She quickly stopped her negative internal dialogue and affirmed to herself that she is a strong, worthy person with no need to compare herself to others. Such a wonderfully written scene in which the MC acknowledges her own self worth. For this and her many quirky attributes, the MC is my idea of a great heroine - with many more adventures ahead, I hope.

I'm new to the series and started with this book (one of the perils of reading advance review copies) -- a bit out of order, but it has a cast of characters who are entertaining enough to make me want to go back to the first book and learn all the backstories. It's not required, though; this book stands on its own (although there's definitely an unresolved romance plot that probably slow-burns through at least a few books in will-they-or-won't-they style). If you enjoy reality TV competitions, you'll have fun seeing bits of that in the baking competition wound through this cozy mystery. All in all, it seems an entertaining series!

The wonderful Wonky Inn.
A wonderful new chapter in the Wonky Inn story and what is happening now but a witchy cake off. Can Alf figure out the mystery? Will George magic be helpful? This has to be one of the best series I have read in a long time humor and mystery always go well together, but add in magic that just takes it over the top. Great characters, great writing, and fun all around that are what you find between the pages of this book. I highly recommend it!! A paranormal spin on the great British Bake off is the playground for the adventures of this book. Fabulous Florence gets a chance to show off her dessert skills - thankfully for the Witchflix network.

Jealousy, greed, conniving and murder are sadly all on the menu, thankfully side by side with friendship, fun, and odd bits of romance.

Alf and her cohorts provide a lovely wonky world of adventures and may! Glad to be a fan!

Witch Alfhild Daemonne, owner of the Wittle Inn, is hosting popular TV show The great Witchy Cake Off, when on the very first day of filming someone is murdered. Alf’s ghostly maid Florence is asked to fill in for the deceased contestant. I really enjoyed seeing Florence shine in the competition. A great stand alone, but so much better if other books in the series have been read. A quirky, fun paranormal read.
