Orli i love the hunger games but if anything i wish LESS people knew about them.....how are they on this list?

I think you'd find Hunger Games on a list of best vampire romances, too. Some folks just see a list and have to put their favorite book on it. For the most part, people have been putting less known books up - and my TBR list thanks them. :)

message 3: by Eden (new)

Eden If it makes top 100 on this list, it becomes rather pointless for it to be on the list.

Kathy (Kindle-aholic) Eden wrote: "If it makes top 100 on this list, it becomes rather pointless for it to be on the list."

If hundreds of people were voting, then maybe. But #100 has 5 voters - I think there is still room to spread the word.

message 5: by April (last edited Jun 13, 2011 12:49PM) (new)

April The whole point of a list like this is to spread the word about books that may have been overlooked for some reason or another and are worthy of a reminder that they are out there and ready to be enjoyed. I don't think it is a popularity contest - though some people tend to make everything into a popularity contest - but that doesn't negate the good a list like this can do for wonderful books that have been overlooked.

Find new books. READ. ENJOY.

Kathy (Kindle-aholic) Well said, April! :)

Ash I agree with April! ;)

Breanne Tiger saga all the way :)

message 9: by Carlos (new)

Carlos Jr. Check out the next BEST series.....The Ancient Warriors Series!!!

message 11: by Michelle (new)

Michelle Cummings I love how the books that I wish everyone knew about are actually at the end of the list!

message 12: by [deleted user] (new)

If a book is at the top end of the list, doesn't it defeat the purpose of the list? The fact that The Hunger Games won, in fact means that many people actually know about it.

message 13: by Hweeps (new)

Hweeps Yes, Elsewhere!!! It's soo underrated!!!

message 14: by Dan (new)

Dan Michelle wrote: "I love how the books that I wish everyone knew about are actually at the end of the list!"

That's an excellent point for this list. There should be a note at the top of the list somehow :D

I just skipped voting on anything in the first page and started on the second page. Most people probably don't like to dig through a large list.

Kathy (Kindle-aholic) This list has just gotten huge. I made a PArt 2 - please note the rule: No bestsellers or books that are becoming movies.

http://www.goodreads.com/list/show/14...

And go!

message 16: by Brigid ✩ (new)

Brigid ✩ Seriously? Most of the books at the top are already best-sellers. x_x
Of course, it's kind of impossible to come up with a list like this, since obviously the books with more readers are going to get more votes. :P

message 17: by [deleted user] (new)

For something fresh, and top quality, (fantasy romance), read The Ballad of Young Tam Lin. Just out in October, it should shoot to the top of the list.

message 18: by Brent (new)

Brent Doesn't everybody like the Hunger games?I mean, come on! Pretty much everybody knows about the trilogy.(5 stars, by the way.)

message 19: by Steven (new)

Steven The Hunger Games is a new York times best seller, and it is being made into a movie. I think enough people know about it. In fact, that's true with a large percentage of the books on this list.

message 20: by [deleted user] (new)

Wait, not EVERYONE in the world knows about The Hunger Games. Since there is room for growth, if you want to torture the meaning of "I wish more people knew about," any bestseller qualifies. Also, what about all those people on other planets? Shouldn't they know about it too? (In case anyone missed it, this is intended to be deeply ironic, and to support Steven's post).

message 21: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Howe The Soul Screamer series :)

message 22: by David (new)

David Bishop This list is 15 months old. A new one is needed.

Kathy (Kindle-aholic) David wrote: "This list is 15 months old. A new one is needed."

Then start one up! ;)

message 24: by David (new)

David Bishop Dear Kindle-aholic: Frankly that would be fun, but I am an author so I would not be able to be objective given my four mystery novels and those of friends. I mean the comment only in light of the list was old enough that it didn't inspire me to vote. I meant no criticism of those who did develop the current list. My The Beholder is currently ranked number 890 in Kindle paid sales and #24 in Police Procedurals.

message 25: by Nancy (new)

Nancy I wish a lot more people knew about the Spellman series (by Lisa Lutz), it's so darn funny!

message 26: by Ally (new)

Ally I just start from the last page of the list and scroll through to vote and find new reads.

I already know about the Hunger Games and Twilight. Now, let me find some new authors I can enjoy.

message 27: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Howe RACHEL VINCENT. :)

message 28: by Carolyn (new)

Carolyn Thanks to the success of the movie I think many people know about The Hunger Games. It's fantastic, it's just not unknown.

message 29: by L.M. (new)

L.M. Smith I've added two books to this list that I am relatively certain most of you have never heard of but I think, since you all seem to enjoy supernatural/paranormal fiction, that you will like them. I hope that you do. Please let me know.

The books are:
The Citizens (A Jazz Nemesis Novel) by L.M. Smith Dhampiri by L.M. Smith

message 30: by Masha (new)

Masha Kindle-aholic -
We could moderate this list. We could remove books with more than 10k ratings. It will pare the list down. Opinions/comments?

message 31: by Batman (new)

Batman 2.o Ever heard of fablehaven? Hope so!

Kathy (Kindle-aholic) This list is a year and a half old, 36 pages long. I am not going to go through 36 pages to pare it down.

message 33: by Masha (new)

Masha so, should i remove books with over - let's say - 20k ratings? I need some consensus, otherwise the librarian powers that be will take away my privileges (and i would hate that).

Kathy (Kindle-aholic) I'm all right with that, so long as you have the extra time to do it.

message 35: by Masha (new)

Masha ok, i cleaned out the first 2 pages. I will review and do more later. I think it looks and feels better. I like seeing unfamiliar books on the list.

message 36: by FallingAngels (new)

FallingAngels Batman wrote: "Ever heard of fablehaven? Hope so!"

Love that book! I'm reading book 4 now! BTW love this list!

message 37: by Kelly (Maybedog) (last edited Sep 19, 2012 03:50AM) (new)

Kelly (Maybedog) Didn't this used to be just fantasy books? I swear it used to be in the title and the majority are. If not, that's a way to split the list. Also, most of these are young adult books. Sigh.

Kathy (Kindle-aholic) It wasn't in the title, but in the beginning it was all fantasy books (adult + YA) because that's what I read. :)

You know, if you want to start your own "Adult Fantasy Books More People Should Know About" you can do that any time.

message 39: by Kelly (Maybedog) (new)

Kelly (Maybedog) Got it and good idea. I created a list recently but only three other people have voted so I suspect it isn't obvious. I mean, it might be a stupid list but you'd think someone would have voted. Any advice on how to make your list prominent?

Kathy (Kindle-aholic) I didn't do anything to promote this one. I just started it, some of my friends added books, and then it was off. You can send invites to your friends to vote on your list. I'd probably only do this if you're sure they'd like to do so.

I also think starting a list w/ "Best" makes it harder to find because so many lists start with that word.

message 41: by Kelly (Maybedog) (new)

Kelly (Maybedog) Okay. Thanks so much!

message 42: by Andrea (new)

Andrea I've seen a few books with more voters on this list than ratings... it smells fishy (and of sockpuppets...)

Anyway, it's an awesome list! I'd also suggest that sequels to books with more than 20,000 ratings shouldn't count either...

Kathy (Kindle-aholic) I do not want a sockpuppet hunt on my list. I don't agree with the practice of fake reviews, but I'm not about to start a battle over them.

This is about books. Please just keep it about books.

message 44: by Lauren (new)

Lauren The Thief! Yeah! That is one of my favorite books of all time, but I have never actually met anyone who has read it.

message 45: by Samantha (new)

Samantha Elsewhere was not a very good book lol and it has almost 20 000 ratings!

message 47: by Gordon (last edited Jan 24, 2013 01:53PM) (new)

Gordon Quite a motivating list, it helps to spread the word about books that are interesting but not yet well known. There are many lists about famous books, this is the first I see about (maybe) future famous books.

Io Deceneus - Journal of a Time Traveler by Florian Armas
This is really a good example of new speculative fiction, even when I did not finished yet the book.

message 48: by Gordon (new)

Gordon Blood of Ancient Kings
This book has been out for just over a year now and in the last 8 month has sold over 400 copies, is may be the sleeper of the year. Blood of Ancient Kings is a medieval story of love, honor, and courage.
As a young prince grows up and advances through the military ranks, with his true identity unknown to his friends, he meets a young girl and they become friends. As the years pass their friendship blossoms into true love, knowing that she already has an arranged marriage and he being royalty most certainly has one as well, they still continue with their relationship. As their friendship progresses he must be courageous as he goes through many trials, testing his love for her, his loyalty to the kingdom, and in doing what’s right as an officer and a gentleman. The story spans multiple generations, their families deal with many problems, going from the pain of death, to the joy of birth as they feel the blood of the ancient kings running through their veins.

message 49: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Ziko This list is way to long, :(

Kathy (Kindle-aholic) Can we not use the comments to plug books, please.
