Basically, I loved this. Surprises EVERYWHERE and the sexual tension between Magnus and Cleo had me smirking and giggling every time they interacted with each other. Amara still needs to die, and Lucia has got some shit to deal with too. And THAT ENDING. Like goddamn, what a fucking cliffhanger. Can I have book 5?...more

The amount of shit that goes down. The amount of times I cried. The love I have for all of these characters. The new info on various characters from the other courts. Everything was amazing.
Okay so, I don't think this will quite top my love for ACOMAF, but it was certainly enjoyable. The romance between her and Rhys, while there, takes a backseat to more pressing matters. Hybern is coming and the fae must unite to have even a hope of stopping him. Honestly, one of my favorite things about the book is learning about the other high lords and their courts. Thesan and the Dawn Court. Helion and the Day Court. Kallias and the Winter Court. Each of them have their own wholly unique personalities, and their own history. We learn some very interesting things about Helion in particular.
The battles are well-written, and each one brings you into the horrors of war. The final battle is traumatizing, and the buildup to it creates so much tension that just explodes in the last pages. Nesta's growth in this book is astounding. Her bond with Cassian is something else, and I love how she takes no shit.
We have old faces and new faces. I cried a lot. Some of these scenes, they get you. I just love all of them. A family not by blood, but by choice. Each and every single one of them are amazing.
I know this is the end of Feyre's story, and I am glad for it. I love her, and I love them, but this was a perfect ending. I'm sure we'll see them in the following books, but there's so much more to explore in Prythia. I'm curious to see whose story we will see in the next book. So. Let's talk Complete and utter perfection. This book deserves 5 stars and more. I wouldn't change a single thing in this book. More thoughts later!
So. Let's talk about how much I love this book. Minor spoilers below, read with caution. Major spoilers will be hidden
If Uprooted is my favorite standalone so far this year, then this book is my current favorite book in a series this year. This may be subject to change with many other heavy hitters like Empire of Storms, The Midnight Star, Strange the Dreamer, Heartless, and The Hammer of Thor (Also The Hidden Oracle which I have not read yet, but soon!).
Still, this is going to be a tough book to beat. This book is a hunker. It is 624 pages, and many may be confused as to why this book is suddenly so massive compared to ACOTAR. I think the length was necessary. Maas said that this book was a Hades and Persephone myth retelling, so you can guess what happens to Feyre. Of course, she's taken to the Night Court to live with Rhysand. The length was needed to build the proper relationships and character growth. Without Maas taking the time to do this everything would have felt rushed. (view spoiler)[Feyre's warming up to Rhys, becoming friends with Mor, Cassian, Azriel, and Amren, coming to terms and acknowledging that Tamlin put her through emotional abuse, and slowly falling in love with Rhys. (hide spoiler)] The pace is slower than ACOTAR, but that doesn't mean it's boring. The world building behind the Night Court is interesting enough (and certainly beautiful), but the wonderful characters that are Rhys, Mor, Cassian, Azriel, and Amren will keep you reading.
Oh, what can I say about Rhysand? I love him. I knew in ACOTAR that there was more to him than a cruel fae with a beautiful face, and I loved getting to know him through Feyre. Rhys is powerful, cunning, and ruthless, but he is also kind, selfless, and a little insecure. He has doubts and fears just like anyone else. The time he spent Under the Mountain was no less horrifying as everyone else's, he just managed to hide it better. The most wonderful thing about him is how much he understands Feyre. Not just because of the bond they share through their bargain, but he understands the horrors she faced Under the Mountain had left her broken and that even though she was reborn, she was no longer that same girl. He doesn't try to lock her away and shelter her from the world. He lets her do what she wishes, and heal on her terms and on her own time. Also, their banter is wicked funny.
Feyre is suffering through a great deal. She clearly has PTSD. The events Under the Mountain have left her so broken she can barely eat, and what she does eat she pukes right up after awakening from her nightmares. She's haunted by the terrible things she had to do to survive, and break Amarantha's curse. She's haunted by Amarantha herself, and can't stand the sight of certain colors and being confined. She can't even paint anymore. That part of herself was lost when she was reborn. However, the time she spends in the Night Court helps her heal. It's slow, but it's steady. She opens up to everyone, enjoys her time with Rhys and the rest, and finds some happiness even as war is brewing. (view spoiler)[Also, her new powers are cool as shit and I can't wait for her to master them all and fuck shit up (hide spoiler)]
Mor, Cassian, Azriel, and Amren are plain amazing. They are wonderful supporting characters. You can feel how much they care for each other, and how much they care for Rhysand (and eventually Feyre). (view spoiler)[Spared from Under the Mountain, they live with guilt in their hearts because they feel they abandoned Rhysand. They feel anger from having to spend the last fifty years helpless, unable to help the man they love and call their brother. They feel happiness from finally having him back, and a new love for Feyre as they welcome her happily into their family. (hide spoiler)] They're all funny in their own unique ways, and they all have tragic backstories that inevitably brought them together. I find it hilarious how Amren and Mor are the scary dangerous ones, while Cassian and Azriel, though big and physically powerful, are not nearly as scary as the women. They are all forces to be reckoned with.
Okay, I sort of rambled endlessly about the characters. Don't worry, there is a plot! Even as Feyre is accustoming herself to the Night Court, she learns of a new war brewing and King Hybern is Enemy #1. (view spoiler)[The evil bastard has somehow gotten his hands on the Cauldron, resurrected Jurian, and now wishes to use the magic to destroy the Wall that separates the faerie lands from human lands. (hide spoiler)] If his plan were to succeed, war would be inevitable and human and fae slaughter would begin anew. Rhys and co. are working to stop this plan before it can be put into action.
I also found the fae history we learn to be fascinating. We learn what exactly happened to Jurian, and learn about a female named Miryam and her lover, Drakon. Also, was it just me or did (view spoiler)[the whole Miryam, Jurian, Drakon story mirror Feyre, Tamlin, and Rhysand? Miryam and Jurian were once lovers, but as Jurian neglected her because of his obsession with the war she found true love in Drakon. Feyre and Tamlin were once lovers, but once he neglected her she in turn found love in Rhysand. (hide spoiler)]
Also, I just want to say in regards to a certain something, I KNEW IT. HAHAHAHA. Guessed it from day one.
Oh, I almost forgot to mention Nesta and Elain. We barely saw them in ACOTAR, but they play a small role in here and it was nice seeing their dynamic with Feyre. Also, (view spoiler)[I am all for that Cassian and Nesta ship (Cassia? Nestian? Ohh I like Nestian. That should be their official ship name (hide spoiler)]
I'm rambling too much. The point is, this book is beautiful and captivating. The worlds we explore are lush, magical, and sometimes very frightening. The creatures we encounter scare the crap out of me, and I am very glad they're not real. I guarantee you will fall in love with Rhys and his merry band of followers, and you will be so touched by the slow romance. Honestly, some of the lines in this book made me tear up. NOOOO THE CLIFFHANGERRRRR *cries uncontrollably*
Oh my lord, the cliffhanger. I can't. This is too painful. NOOOOOO. Oh Schwab, you evil woman.
Ok, asides from the cliffhanger this was so good. Less action, more character driven, but damn do I love Schwab's writing. Her world building is lush, and her characters are to die for. Seriously my love for Kell grew exponentially. I loved Rhy, Lila, and even Alucard. Their characters are so fleshed out you can practically feel them. They might as well be real people. The nuances in their personalities and how they interact with one another, it's amazing.
This book does have a much slower pace than ADSOM which is why I docked half a star off. The beginning, while filled with beautiful writing, did drag a bit. Then things start to happen and there's a looming sense of dread as everything unfolds.
Honestly, I really wanted to give Kell a hug. He needed one so badly. After the last book's events, tensions are high between him and the king and queen. The restrictions placed on him and the restlessness he felt were all so real to me. He just needed some comfort. That scene between him and the king, oh man, broke my heart. And Lila, oh man, whenever they're together they crack me up. It was weird reading from their POVs and not having them together, but you get a real sense for how they actually feel about one another when they're apart.
I love the brotherly love between Kell and Rhy. They love each other so much, and want to help one another more than they want to help themselves. Rhy himself is a wonderful character, so funny and charming. Also, seeing him with Alucard is pretty funny since they're both equally funny and charming. They're like two peas in a pod.
The romance is there, but it's very subtle. Still, it makes me smile.
In every part of the book you get a chapter from the villain of the book so you don't see much on that front. However, a feeling of dread builds and ugh, damn tension.
I still have a million questions, like what exactly is Lila and WHAT WILL HAPPEN NOW BECAUSE GJFKAHSJDH. Ugh, I'm sorry, that cliffhanger killed me. Honestly, I have no idea where this is going but (view spoiler)[Lila better save Kell and taking that collar off better restore his magic!!! Then they can save all of the worlds together!! Throne of Glass was the series that first got me back into reading, and this end is certainly bittersweet. I have faithfully followed these books for Throne of Glass was the series that first got me back into reading, and this end is certainly bittersweet. I have faithfully followed these books for years and I am both sad and happy to have finally finished this book. Aelin has come a long way, and I'm very glad none of my babies died. That isn't to say there aren't any deaths in here. No, Maas plays no games. This massive book made me cry twice, full on sobs I had to hide at home and in public. Some people may complain about the lack of plot. I do not see such a thing. This is a war book guys. Of course most of the story is going to focus on battles. Still, there was also the overarching journey of everyone making their way to Terrasen. This is a brutal book, and dark things are within these pages. It was hard reading some of the things in this, especially the scenes of Aelin's torture.
This has come a long way from ToG. From assassin to queen, Aelin has come a long way. Same with Dorian and Chaol. Manon most of all I think. Her journey especially, is what broke me. Her and the Thirteen.
There isn't much more for me to say. This is the end I hoped for. It kept me reading night after night, page after page. I am a little sad it is over, but I look forward to Maas' next series, and the continuation of ACOTAR. This series will always hold a special place in my heart.

Ok so, this book was perfect. The characterization was flawless and everyone progressed so well. I stopped calling Chaol a stupid butthead by the end and Manon grew on me! I had a tendency to slog my way through Manon's parts, but her voice and character really grew on me. (view spoiler)[Also VERY curious to see where her connection with Dorian goes... Perhaps the saddest thing for me was Asterin's backstory, which completely broke my heart. Granted, all of the chapters in Dorian's POV made me make my sad face so I dunno.
And of course, I still love my precious babies Aelin, Rowan, Dorian, and Aedion. YOU ARE ALL MY LOVES!!!!!
Oh also I've seen that some people have been complaining about the excess of romance, but I really didn't feel like there was a shit ton of romance at all?? Like yeah, a lot of it dealt with characters dealing with their feelings and how they felt for certain people, but I honestly didn't think it detracted from the story. The main focus was still all about killing Arobynn and the king, the character emotions were just adding to the stress of the situation. Oh, and I understand a lot of people didn't like this book because of all of Mac's "whining" but honestly if I had gone through even half of the shit she did I would be concerned for my sanity as well. Maybe it's just because I have my own mental issues, but I understood where Mac was coming from with these things so I really appreciated how Schwab didn't just glaze over it. It would have been unrealistic if she was suddenly over what happened in the first book. She's going through PTSD guys, at least try to understand that.

Wow. I am speechless. This story was so unique and such a breath of fresh air. From the description you think this is going to be like Titanic in spacWow. I am speechless. This story was so unique and such a breath of fresh air. From the description you think this is going to be like Titanic in space, but it is the farthest thing from that. Lilac LaRoux, the daughter of the richest man in the galaxy and Tarver Merendsen, a war hero, are aboard the Icarus,a luxury spaceliner traveling in hyperspace that is owned by Lilac's father. The name of the ship itself, the Icarus, alludes to a disaster striking and strike it does. The ship is pulled out of hyperspace and Lilac and Tarver are the only survivors when they crash land onto an unknown planet.
Fortunately, the planet has been terraformed to sustain life. Unfortunately, no one seems to be coming to rescue them and the two do not get along. Separated already by their respective classes, the two's differences are even more apparent when it is up to Tarver to keep them alive on a seemingly isolated planet. The harsh circumstances pit them against each other and wow it is so refreshing. They don't fall in love at first sight, far from it. They bicker and hate each other for what they represent. However, as their time together grows they warm to each other. Their love is a fire that needs to be gently kindled and when it does, it burns and it survives against all odds. (view spoiler)[Against even death. (hide spoiler)]
However, there is a deeper mystery to this planet as they continue to wonder why a planet that is sustainable is not inhabited. As their journey continues they find out and wow is it just so freaking unique. The worldbuilding, the underlying plot, the character development, all of it is just so unique it makes me want to squeal and every last bit of it tickles your feels. Then, there's a moment that punches you in the gut and you just want to die. It's okay though, things get better after that. This isn't the end though. I can't wait for This Shattered World and what the minds of Spooner and Kaufman come up with next.
“And when I hold back, staying my hands from protecting those below, I must so it out of trust in what people can do on their own.”
I mean, what ca“And when I hold back, staying my hands from protecting those below, I must so it out of trust in what people can do on their own.”
I mean, what can I say? I still love this book. Everyone is amazing. Wax and Steris are my #2 fave couple in Mistborn (Vin and Elend are #1 of course). There are political machinations, an ancient artifact, and the hunt to get it before the Set do. Now that I think about it, this is very Indiana Jones or The Mummy lol. At the same time this is a very personal vendetta between Wax and his uncle, Suit.
Reeling from the events of Shadows of Self, six months later Wax is still mad at Harmony, and I don’t blame him. He was forced to do something terrible and traumatizing again, and was led there by God himself and nudged along by the kandra. Unfortunately, God isn’t done with him yet. The kandra come for his aid, and he refuses, so Marasi steps in. Wax tags along for the Bands of Mourning, the lost relic of the Lord Ruler that gave him access to all metals and their abilities, both Allomantic and Feruchemical. Once he realizes his sister is closer than he anticipated, it becomes a hunt to free his sister from the clutches of his uncle. (view spoiler)[It’s just too bad said sister is part of the Set too, and higher ranking than Wax even. They meet a whole new race of people as well that were guided by Kelsier of all people. What follows is an action-packed journey as they travel to New Seran and beyond. There are gunfights, including an epic battle on a moving train, subterfuge, and two budding maybe three romances. There’s also thoughts of religion and some serious character growth when we find out just how far people will go for the ones they love. Turns out the only way to get Wayne to stop shaking when he held a gun was to let him use it in the name of his best friend. Steris’ lists and preparedness is actually quite helpful, and I’m glad that Wax constantly reminds her she isn’t useless and encourages her. Years of putting herself down and ridiculed just because she’s different (and most likely autistic) and here’s one handsome man telling her she’s awesome and loves her. They chose one another in the end, and that’s what makes it beautiful.
Ok I think I’ve rambled long enough. I’m gonna go read Secret History now. The reread is almost done! Soon I will be ready for The Lost Metal!!! Below you will find a few more of my favorite quotes. Belong the line is my original review.
“I’d rather not have ‘shootability’ be my talent.” - Wax
“What we are together and what we make out of our future need not be spelled out by a piece of paper. The contract need not set our bounds.” - Wax
“Wayne has the mental capacity of a fruit flu. In comparison to him, anyone is brilliant.” - Steris
“So, it has been my experience that the saddest place in a gunfight is near you, Lord Waxillium.” - Steris
“. . . I learned how much power over a situation you gain when you decide that you don’t care what others think of you.” - Wax
“People can ask questions, but where there is no money, there are no answers.” - Devlin
“Well, when he gets his brain back, someone tell him I’m a god, all right?” - Wayne
“We may not be able to choose what happens to us, or where we’ll stop, but we point ourselves in a direction. You pointed yourself towards me.” - Wax
“Ask me sometime about the conversation I had with God the last time I died.” - Wax
“Will you be my bride? I want to be married to you. Right now, before the Survivir and that priest. Not because words on a paper say we have to, but because we want to.” - Wax
“I can’t remember a time when I missed something for one of my lists, only to have it be so wonderful.” - Steris

YOU ARE KILLING ME WITH THESE CLIFFHANGERS AND SHOCKING REVELATIONS SANDERSON. ABSOLUTELY KILLING ME.
Omg, where do I even start????? I just, I approve of everything. Everyone's characters were spot on and perfect, there were a lot of gunfights, Wayne made me laugh, the usual. Tons of shit happens, and NEW THINGS. I'm sad I'll probably have to wait 2 years for The Lost Metal.

“Religion worried him. It could ask men to do things they’d otherwise never do.”
The reread continues! An honorary constable now, Wax and Wayne hav“Religion worried him. It could ask men to do things they’d otherwise never do.”
The reread continues! An honorary constable now, Wax and Wayne have the authority to take down criminals as they see fit. Well, within the confines of the law at least. Marasi is also now a constable, finding it to be more of her passion than law. Things seem pretty chill until Harmony makes an appearance and ask Wax to hunt down a rogue kandra. What follows is a story that questions politics, religion, and history repeating itself. Elendel is on the verge of a riot, and an inhuman murderer running about the streets inciting madness isn’t helping things. So, it is up to our favorite duo to capture her!
As per usual, there is plenty of action. Gunfights, chases across the city, and subterfuge. We are introduced to characters that are both new and familiar. Wax’s detective skills are truly put to the test as it seems he is always one step behind the killer. And now, having spoken directly with God (and getting sarcastic with him) he contemplates his beliefs and those who believe in someone else, like the Survivorists. This is an examination of free will. Wayne and MeLaan provide plenty of humor, but in the end this is a surprisingly contemplative story about many deep topics.
Also, I forgot how much this book hurt my heart. Even with being prepared for the twist at the end it still hurt. The trauma something like that would cause. Harmony’s role in it, but also his helplessness at being unable to do too much without taking away humanity’s freedom of choice. Love can be just as dangerous as it is wonderful. Such a strong emotion can drive anyone to insanity.
Overall, I still love this. It has everything I want from a fantasy novel and then some. I’m gonna keep this relatively short and sweet cause I have a killer sinus headache from my cold. Plus, I wanna start the next book asap. Below you will find a few more memorable quotes along with my original review.
“Being God is more complex than a mortal can comprehend? What a surprise. Wait, did I just get sarcastic with God himself?.” - Wax
“Owning things of value is secondary to creating things of value where none once existed. - Edwarn
“But rich folk, they had a different word for the crapper. They’d call it a ‘commode’ or a ‘washroom.’ That way, when someone asked for the crapper, they knew it was a person they needed to oppress.” - Wayne
“She was strong and vulnerable all at once. She was my last master, and my greatest. She had a way of pouring herself into what she did. When she fought, she was the blade. When she loved, she was the kiss. In that regard, she was far more human than any I have known.” - TenSoon
“I have a theory that a gentlewoman should never need to resort to something as barbarous as violence to achieve her goals. A true gentlewoman uses the threat of violence instead. So much more civilized.”
———————————————————————————————
Everything was fine and dandy until I had 100 pages left. Then I lost my shit and the feels came. I expected the action, the odd humor from Wayne, and the complex plot. I was not expecting to have my heart broken, or for it to end in such a way. I should know better by now.
I need Bands of Mourning.
“Finally, he turned to the side, rested his head on her shoulder, and wept.”
“The more alone you are, the more important it is to have someone you can rely upon.”
Upon starting The Lost Metal, I realized I remembered almost “The more alone you are, the more important it is to have someone you can rely upon.”
Upon starting The Lost Metal, I realized I remembered almost nothing from the series within the last six years. The long wait was just too much for my already shifty memory, and so I decided to reread the books. I originally wanted to start with The Final Empire, but I’ve got so many other things I wanna read I figured starting here worked just fine. Of course, this is just as amazing as the first time I read it years ago.
The more I read the more things were slowly coming back to me. I forgot some of the twists so honestly it was nice to be caught off guard again lol. It made this experience more genuine and allowed me to appreciate it almost as if it was my first time again. Wax and Wayne are still the best duo. From the witty banter to the unspoken trust between the two men, they are clearly forces to be reckoned with. Marasi is a wonderful addition to their lively team and I so appreciate the fact that she is feminine, but also is fascinated with law and insists on helping in dangerous situations. One does not negate the other. Wayne is still my fave just cause he cracks me up. The man is dangerous as fuck when he wants to be, but is also a master of disguise and a total weirdo. In a good way though.
The magic in this world still fascinates me. All of the different combinations of Allomancy and Feruchemy. Each individual power the metals can grant and just how skilled Wax and Wayne are at using them. Wax’s perception of trajectory is truly astounding. The allomancy helps, but the way he pulls certain things off makes him more than just your ordinary Coinshot. And of course Wayne’s use of the speed bubble is brilliant, but also somehow hilarious? I just love picturing him going into a bubble and then coming out somewhere else in a completely different outfit like an ever changing jack-in-the-box lol.
Overall, loved how chaotic this was from start to finish. It’s crazy to think that everything that happens in the book takes place in the span of less than two days. Below you will find a few more of my favorite quotes. Below the dotted line is my original review.
“The land around me may have been wild, but I didn’t need to be.” - Wax
“But the mark of a great man is one who knows when to set aside the important things in order to accomplish the vital ones.” - Tillaume
“Oh, Wax has always been solemn. But when he’s at his best, there’s a smirk underneath.” - Wayne
“I’m a little late ‘cause I was trying to figure out a way to beat him up without ruining the coat.” - Wayne
