I was only a casual fan, discovering him on the waning days of my General Hospital Fandom, seldom watching 'Full House,' and never seeing him in ER, on Broadway, or in any of the movies he referenced.
Still, he is a popular, charismatic actor and I found his reminiscences to be entertaining. I am glad rhat he has found sobriety and the love of his life, along with the opportunity to become a parent....more

interesting quotes (page numbers from edition with ISBN13 ):
"Never finish a negative sentence. When you finish a negative sentence, it grows immediately into a paragraph. And then, into a thesis...into so many words that grab your ankles and hold you in place. When a negative thought comes into your mind, you literally say out loud, 'I have no time for you now.' Yes, people will look at you strangely, but you just have to keep saying it until it lodges in your mind. Release the negative thought before you put a period on the end of it. If you put a period on the end of it, you're in a morass. On the other hand, if you don't finish the negative thought, you can get it out of your brain by replacing it with a positive. What kind of positive? What I always say in my talks, for me, it's a moist chocolate bundle cake with soft chocolate chips, no frosting. With this new positive in your mind, you're suddenly changing the way you feel, physically. Your head and your shoulders rise out of their slump and fly back and in this new, upright posture, you continue walking to your goal." (p. )

While I find most of the drivel her mom spews out in the ladt few years to be either very hateful or conspiracy theory-laden nonsense, I was still fascinated by her first-hand account of her rags-to-riches life and the chaotic disruption it brought to her family.
Just affirms my thoughts that it may be okay to be rich, but I would not ever want to be famous. ...more

There's a lot of information (including the origins of the word BRAT, a term originally meaning British Regiment Attached Traveler) and I like that the military acronyms and jargon are explained.
The children come from five of the military branches (the book was published prior to the establishment of the Space Force) and even the National Guard and Reserves are mentioned.
The group experiences various stages of grief and loss as they are facing the prospect of moving away from one another and major changes in their lives.
The story is long and mught be a challenge to read with a young child in one sitting, but is broken up into manageable chunks, so it can be read at a comfortable pace.
Overall, it's a good story with a great message and I highly recommend it for military families....more

I am so happy that he left his job as a textbook writer and embarked on this career, writing nonfiction history books for children of all ages. He fills his books with the most engaging, suspenseful, informative, and entertaining nuggets that you will not find in textbooks and I am very grateful.
I love that we learn about many of the female pioneers in aviation like Pancho Barnes, Louise Thaden, Elinor Smith, and Ruth Nichols. Of course, Mr. Sheinkin also devotes a considerable amount of time to Amelia Earhart, but in examining her relationships with her peers, he goes far beyond simply mentioning her accomplishments and untimely death.
As a former female aviator (navigator, not pilot), I really enjoyed learning more about this period of aviation discovery, adventure, and daring. It's a little sad that even seventy years later, I experienced a bit of the sexism that was rife in those times, but I recognize that it was due to their determination and willingness to stand up for their rights that I had the opportunities that I did. And I know that future generations of female aviators will work, fly, and compete on a more even playing field, especially due to books like this one.
