We meet lots of characters but our main character is Keiro, a 17-year-old girl, naive and a rule follower, who gets bound to an incredible responsibility. Book one, A Mortal Bargain, is spent world and character building which laid a great foundation for the second in the series. With lots of plot twists and political intrigue to keep you entertained.
I enjoyed book two and find this series very unique and intriguing. I don't want to give anything away, but there is a super fun forced proximity relationship that I absolutely love. I sometimes get frustrated with Keiro, but then I remember her age and all of her trauma. Also, she makes great strides in maturity and decision making in book two and I love it! I also love the new magic development. We get lots of royal politics, fun side characters, plot twists, adventures, and great character developments in book two. I can't wait to see where the rest of this series goes!...more

This story is full of royal politics, found family, strong characters, unique magic, and a mild love triangle (very low, sweet and unexpected spice).
One of the things I loved about this book is that the characters are so well built that you can't help but be sucked it. The world is also really beautifully written. Lots of fun plot twists and unexpected action. It's interesting to watch Kezerah try navigate her own life. She starts out pretty nieve but begins to learn and grow.
I am very excited for the next in the series to continue this beautiful story!...more

This series perfectly showcases life and death, light and dark and the blurred edges between. The vivid imagery provided by the author allows you to picture the world and it's characters in beautiful (or terrifying) detail. I find the characters very well defined with their own voices and personality. Each character has a specific purpose and doesn't feel like a filler.
I adore Laila, the FMC, and the MMC. I don't want to say too much, because this is the second in the series and there is a plot twist in the first that we follow into the second- which I absolutely needed to happen.
My emotions were pulled all over the place because I was cheering for the romance, but also trying to shoo her away because the MMC is creating things that haunt my nightmares. However, their love is also very sweet and genuine.
I haven't had a chance to review each individual book, but I just finished this one and HAD to say something about it!

OH EM GEE! I'm crying! This series has been really good so far. I give books 1 and 2 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5, but book 3 is a solid ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ stars for me. I'm DESTROYED but hopeful! I am diving in to book 4 right now, I cannot wait another minute!
A Song of Ice and Fire (GOT) was a hard series for me to read because hope was nonexistent. I was so depressed reading it, but I had to see it through. It totally drained my soul. I can deal with darkness but I need a smidgen of light. Even just one flickering flame at the end of the dark tunnel. I have hope with Lady of Darkness, and I'm holding on to it!
Melissa has written an incredibly beautiful and heartbreaking story. There is very strong mental health representation and it is done so well. I highly encourage you to read this series if you haven't yet, but please read the trigger warnings! The villains in this story are some of the worst I've come across. I want to skin them all alive and then throw salt on them. The characters and world are so well written, I just can't say enough good things about it so far!...more

There is a strong mental health rep aspect that deals with PTSD, sexual abuse and torture. This is not a full list of triggers so please read them prior to reading this series.
That being said, I really enjoyed these books. They are darker than I typically read and I also happen to be reading the Lady of Darkness series in tandem, so my life is ALL darkness currently lol. I really like the different magics and unique creatures in this story. The characters are well written and relatable.
Beware- this series is devastating! My jaw was on the floor from several things that happened. It lifts you up and then slams you back down. I'm ready for book 3 because I need to know what happens next. I hope it is in the works! If you like dark fantasy, this series is for you!
Thank you so much, Jessica, for allowing me to read and review your books! I can't wait to see who wins!...more

I would recommend this book for middle grade students as I think it is the perfect book for that age group.
I typically read epic fantasy so I was really missing the in depth world and character building with this story. However, it's a short book and there is only so much you can do in that amount of time.
Overall, it is a cozy and quick read and I appreciate you allowing me to review your book!...more

Ally, is such a sweet woman, widowed, and relocated to open a B&B. When one of her guests is murdered, she joins the hunt to try to find the killer.
This is a super cute and fun little murder mystery with and older protagonist and small town charm! I really loved how she was able to capture the gossip and drama of a small town.
The mystery is pretty straight forward but makes for a fun and quick read. Ally is new to the town so you get to go along with her as she meets new people and builds relationships. The world and character building isn't super complex. I found it easy to read and follow along. I also really liked Ally and enjoyed how friendly and welcoming she is. It's great to see that she tackles starting a new career and life path later in life! She's living my retirement dream! Although, I think her personality is better suited for it....more

Emilia does a great job of placing you right in the story. The reading experience is so immersive! I absolutely love the characters (especially Nox, Nyra, Finn, Avery, and Gage).
I swear, if anything happens to Nox or Nyra I'm going to freak out! I'm okay with the people dying but I can't handle it when the animals get hurt or die ...more
