Delaney has been training with Cal to learn how to develop and control her magic and to learn how to fight, which she thought she knew but with Cal it's amped up to a whole new level. Since she unknowingly created a bond with Tor this is hard for him to deal with and she must maintain her shields so she's not constantly overwhelmed by his feelings and concerns. Cal is also training him and he's being just as hard on him as is her. She is still working to regains Cal’s and Moose trust after she tricked them during the first book.
Laney is going to have to make some difficult choices, she will lose more than she dreamed and discover betrayal where she least expected it as demons keep coming after her and those she loves and cares for.
I need the next book now!

One thing that I really liked about the ending is while the story will continue, there's no huge cliffhanger that makes you scream in frustration. Not to say that I'm not anxiously awaiting the next book in this new series.
Centuries ago, inept and/or careless magic users almost caused the discovery of the Fae. To stop this from happening then and to keep it from happening in the future the Fey cast a Sleep spell which hid magic from humans and made them unable to see and use magic. This hid all magical creatures from humans and as for were-creatures they were unaware of their nature and were not subject to the change during the full moon. Eighteen years ago, dragons appeared over Mt. Fuji and shattered the spell that had been cast and some humans received the magical abilities that were inherent to them and were-animals appeared. The magic they unleashed when they appeared also destroyed all electronics; technology is non-existent; this resulted in many deaths. Many from humans died fighting one another over food and other resources; more deaths came when humans discovered the magical creatures in their midst and many were-animals were destroyed as a result.
The Fae had never trusted humans, they had nearly been discovered when they case the Sleep spell and to them despite the centuries that had passed, we were still as ignorant and violent as ever. After several years of fighting a tentative agreement, The Concord was reached and the Fey agreed to train humans who were able to wield magic. Humans must work with creatures if this world is to survive.
Angela (Angie) Harriet Ritter was five when the world awoke to the magic around them. During the ensuing chaos, she lost her parents and brother. Duncan Marshal had served with her father and took her in after the death of her family. When she began to show sign of being able to use magic, he took her to Grandmaster Mage Chararah (Char) Succubus to be trained and Char adopted her as her daughter. Nathan Case an older trainee at the school is one the most skilled mages, while Angie is considered one of the weakest.
Stacey has created an amazing post-apocalyptic, dystopian world, all the characters are well-drawn and by the end of the first book you know who the enemies are. We find Angie several years after leaving the school; she joined the Home Guard with Nathan Case but Nathan kicked her out after an incident that left her suffering with PTSD (the incident is not the reason that Nathan kicked her out, but I’ll leave the readers to discover the reasons why).

Vivian has become a recluse since the death of her fiancé. When Katherine, an old friend of her mothers arrives reluctantly agrees to come to Ireland so that Katherine can train her to use her magic. Once she arrives in Ireland she discovers that magic is not the only training she is to receive. While Katherine teaches how to use her magic, McGregor and his/her warriors teach her how to fight using ancient ways and weapons.
This is a wonderful blending of urban fantasy and mystery; there are many plot twists that will keep the reader guessing until the exciting conclusion. I look forward to the next book in this series.

In the 21st century, grad student Alyssa Mccaulay has been having dreams that have become more urgent and frequent since the death of her beloved grandmother. She thinks the dreams are a result of her intense studying and the writing of her thesis and they’re leaving her edgy and exhausted; then she finds evidence that someone has been prowling around her house. Shadow is her Great Pyrenees protector but she decides to have a security system installed as an added bonus. She makes an appointment with Security Consultants which is owned by the Sheridan family and Rowan Sheridan is the manager of the Montana office. During their consultation he receives a call, apologizes that he has to run for a service call but tells her his secretary will set up a time convenient for both of them so he can come out and see what type of system she needs.
After leaving his office, she goes to her office and falls asleep at her desk where she has another dream where she sees Rowan Sheridan dressed in battle gear and fighting with claymores and to her horror she watches as the battle unfolds. She wakes up when the battle is over and is amazed that she is having them during the day, the details are so vivid and becoming, how vivid they seem and how easily they are recalled.
After a disastrous relationship with her ex, Alyssa has sworn off men, all she wants is to complete her thesis, get her degree, continue teaching and possibly write a book on the subject that she has been fascinated by all her life. She will soon learn that fate has much bigger plans in store for her, but Rowan will have to work hard to gain her trust and undo all the damage that was inflicted by the louse she was with previously. Failure to do so will mean death and another thousand years before the curse has the chance to be broken again.

While the writing was good there were just too any unanswered/unaddressed plot lines. I am only going to address two of them here: What exactly happened to Nathalie and how did she manage to escape those holding her captive? Also, since it seems that all the witches had their magic returned why was she dazed, confused and unable to see the things that she had been able to before?
When I first started reading this author, I enjoyed it but as time has progressed he's gotten darker and it seems that he's trying too hard to import his choices and preferences to the readers....more

The cover is beautiful but I did not realize that this was so short; more like a prequel and not a very good one.
The book is about 5 girls from different eras and backgrounds who are chosen to be immortal so that they can help mankind fight evil villains, however over a millennium they only fight two. A historical context is provided, but like the book itself it is too short and incomplete. It jumps from time period to time period, which makes the story confusing and convoluted, I feel that it would have been much better written as different POV’s. It could have been a good book, but it feels like it was written by someone in middle school.

The book isn’t perfect, there’s some monotonous dialogue but, IMHO no writer is completely perfect and the story and originality makes up for mistakes that take nothing away from the enjoyment of the story itself. I received this as one of my Prime books and it lingered on my shelf for months, but I’m glad because once I read it I only had a couple of weeks to wait until book 2 was released (now I’m impatiently waiting for the next one).
This book has several main characters; Tasia a witch with powers that the vampires thought they had destroyed years ago. She is in hiding, working two dead-end jobs and flying under the radar a level two wizard where she uses her "low-level" abilitied to make extra money doing mainly magical cleaning jobs.
Raoul, the brooding, enigmatic young Alpha of the local pack who offers Tasia his protection (despite his hatred of witches) after she recues Hawk, a young dual shifter who is a pack member. Duncan is Raoul’s second who shares the secret of Raoul’s past. These are just a few of the wonderful characters that make up this saga.
Tasia has been hiding her abilities for so long, moving to different cities while trying to hide in plain sight; she knew she was taking a risk when she rescued Hawk but thought it was relatively a small one. When the two weres that were holding Hawk come after her she manages to survive using abilities she isn’t suppose to possess, this puts her in danger from the people who have been searching for her and she has no choice but to accept the offer of protection the pack has offered.
While Tasia has accepted the pack’s protection she does not tell them the extent of her abilities; even after Raoul sees evidence that she killed vampires without using the usual methods he’s not sure how she did it but he helps to cover it up by staking them. He knows she hiding things, which adds to his innate distrust of her because she is a witch but he feels obligated to offer her the protection of the pack until she turns on them which he fully expects her to do.
Since I don’t want to give any more away I’ll stop now but I urge you to read this book!

One thing that I like about this author books is the locals they are set in; New Orleans has always been associated with magic, witches, voodoo and creatures it makes this an entreating read.
All the people that made it out of the massacre from the first book return in this novel. Nathalie powers are still growing, Alice is stuck on the Dreaming Road and Daniel is trying to save her. While the main focus was saving Alice and getting her back from the Dreaming Road there are other subplots that made this book and entertaining read. I especially like the twist with Fleur and I can’t wait to see if it’s who I think it is in the mirror that the cat went through.

She is a lone witch who was cast out of their community for hurting a man who tried to harm her (witches have a strict “do no harm” rule, which is kind of stupid in itself). Since being cast our she has been working as a waitress when her ex, Lex, who is also the one that turned her in to the council shows up, turn up to tell her that the Tatiana is dead and she needs to run for Tatiana so other unsuitable characters won’t gain the position. After practically being forced to agree she finds herself in many difficult and dangerous positions many which could have been avoided is she had better judgement and impulse control.
Although the first book is somewhat disappointing, there series does get better in the subsequent books. I didn’t start the series until there I had the first three books so all the characters and plotlines have remained fresh in my mind. I’m glad that these are being released a quickly as they are because if Ms. Bachar was waiting a year or longer, I don’t think I would be following the series. There are typos, run on sentences misspelled and missing words but it’s not so bad that it distracts the reader, although some readers set a bigger store by this that I do. If I can read the book and enjoy it without having to analyze it to understand it then it doesn’t bother me and I don’t deduct points from the review.

This book is told in dual POV’s Maxon’s and Lianna’s and while this is not a format that I prefer the author has done an excellent job, the writing flowed smoothly between the POV’s (this is often not the case) so I found myself enjoying it more than I usually do.
Despite being s fierce demon hunter Maxon is still haunted by the vents that occurred when he was just three years old; he’s still plagued by nightmares from and things have gotten worse in the last year. . He no longer finds pleasure in killing demons. He’s always been considered a ladies man whose has ha many one night stands; he feels that this is all he’s good for; he’s too damaged and unworthy of being loved. Then he meets Lianna…
Lianna is also haunted by the abduction when she was thirteen so she is able to relate to what he is going through and help him by being sympathetic, loving and non-judgmental. She is a determined, strong, passionate, loyal woman who does what she believes is right and follows her heart. She has been chosen to replace the ailing water element with whom she has been training since she was fourteen and has had a demon, Zephyr following her for years, stealing her powers and trying to kill her so that he can have them permanently. There’s also a jealous ex-boyfriend that he is trying to avoid. While I am not a fan of the insta-love that authors seem overly fond of, I like that the trust between them built slowly.
I hated the ending and while I will read the next book I hope that some of the confusion I have is cleared up.

With just seven days left before the court case and eight days before their long awaited wedding something goes wrong and they are left hustling to get what they need.
One of my favorite things in this series is Myla’s sass, snark and kick-butt attitude and while it was here there was also more darkness that I have not seen in the previous books. Also, there seemed to be more repetition (example: followers know that Sissy is her best friend and we don’t need it repeated again and again), there were others but I won’t list them and while it’s not a big deal I find it annoying and feel that the editor should have caught it.
