The text does not shy away from the gruesome conditions of No Man's Land and really makes you come to face with the carnage and atrocities perpetrated. I found it a very interesting read, however if you are not interested by history or World War I, you may not enjoy it.
I will also add that further research showed that Almina actually went bankrupt by 1951, a fact that appears to be omitted. I think this covers over the fact that, even though it is said numerous times that Almina was overly generous and an over spender, there are indeed consequences to living beyond your means and she seems to have ended her life pretty poor having never learned to control herself and therefore less glamorous.
Otherwise this was very written and researched and would recommend. ...more
