Or I guess, more specifically, it felt like Alexis had a plan and knew exactly where they were going, but at the same time wanted to drag this out so it would be a trilogy and not a duo. This could have totally been a duo.

But the first in this series ended so abruptly that I felt like I needed a little more.
It wasn't bad, but it got a little monotonous, especially the fluffyness. Like, there was some anxiety over meeting Jackson's family, and going as a throuple to the company picnic...but then everything worked out fine, and everyone was really open minded - which, I can definitely see the appeal of reading something where everything works out better than expected all the time - but I was starting to feel antsy for some conflict or drama or angst or SOMETHING
The sex scenes were good...but not amazing. For whatever reason it was starting to bother me how much the author used the word "erotic". Like "It was so erotic how he put a collar on me". It felt like I was being told by the author that this was a really hot thing the characters were doing and I should be so turned on... but I was like "don't tell me what to do!" But to her credit, I was pretty turned on. ...more

This was... pretty good. I ended up liking it more than I thought I was going to based on my feelings during the first chapter, but I had some issues with it.
I guess I'll start out with what I liked: - It is a spicy romance between a trans woman and a cis man... and as far as I can tell, there is only one other book like this in existence? (the other one is A Lady for a Duke by Alexis Hall) I loved the rep, I wish there was more out there! - April's character - she is strong and brave and caring and sweet, and also very insecure. She goes through a great arc as well. - The ending - the HEA is really sweet and it kinda got me rethinking how I was planning on sort of... tearing this book apart.. a little - The portrayal of what a healthy D/s, BDSM, kinky, etc. relationship can be
Okay, so now here are the issues I had: - The first chapter - the meet cute, was very... bland? I would say it was too realistic, except that Dennis was like Mr. Perfect from the get go and he was immediately besotted with April just from one, sort of boring conversation that they had in a kink club. Fortunately, it DID get better after the first chapter, just... not THAT much better - The time jumps/pacing - Okay this one really bothered me. At first the story jumps ahead to six months later, gives you like one sentence of content and then goes back again to six months prior to then move at a normal-ish pace from April's POV (Whyyy time jump at all???). THEN, once you are back at the present, it jumps back AGAIN, six months prior and gives you the same events from Dennis' POV. Look, under the best of circumstances, this would be annoying, but what made it even worse was that some of the events were literally repeated- like, word for word- because they were events in which both April and Dennis were there, and they were just like, having a conversation, so you got THE EXACT SAME DIALOG for a second time. I found this incredibly frustrating. - The steam - I thought this was going to be erotica ...more

This is a short erotica told from the POV of Silas, a himbo-ish, sunshine character who's exploring his bisexuality for the first time and talks a lot, and Oscar, a grump who hardly ever utters a word and has a secret wish to be dominated. As you can imagine, soon after he and Silas get together, Silas coincidentally discovers that he just loves dominating Oscar....and super steamy times ensue....
Look, this is not winning any awards for writing, but I don't think that was the author's goal. The steam is SO well done - the way that Silas cares for Oscar, draws out his desires, praises him, and obtains his consent, is truly romantic and beautiful. The characters themselves don't really go through arcs, but their relationship does. Actually...the characters do go through small arcs I suppose. But in any case, I really enjoyed this and will definitely be reading more from this author!...more

This book is pretty dark in its premise, but the romance is super sweet with a ton of hurt/comfort which I loved. As for the dark themes, there is nothing on-page or explicit, and everything is handled with care which I appreciated. I actually found it quite therapeutic.
The characters and relationship development is great. Adam and Noah have both been traumatized. But the way they understand and care for each other and communicate is just perfect! And of course, in this mental health fantasy, their kinks line up perfectly too.
The characters were adorable - not super complex, but I loved them all the same. The plot...well, there isn't really any. The whole Yes I liked this.
The characters were adorable - not super complex, but I loved them all the same. The plot...well, there isn't really any. The whole thing revolves around how these three MCs come together to be in a happy, kinky, family. Again, I did not mind this at all, because it isn't a simple thing to add a third person to an established relationship, and I liked how the author doesn't pretend that it is. She explores some of the different dynamics/emotions/fears of this situation without any drama. Everyone is really open and respectful, there is no conflict or angst, and it's all very fluffy, hot and fun, but it's still a *process*.
Fair warning- there is puppy kink on page- as in men dressing and acting like puppies. Like a lot of erotica, I don't think this is something I'd ever be interested in IRL... BUT I did like reading about it, and it totally worked for the characters and the world of the story so yeah, I was into it. ...more

Well...I mean...uh…hot damn.....
This is a very steamy 62 page long sex scene between Tad, a “straight” man who just lost a bet and has to either get naked and submit to being flogged by a professional gay dom, or get beat up, and Scott, said professional gay dom.
Needless to say, consent is very dubious (at best). And even though Scott is an experienced pro and Tad has never done anything like this before, Scott doesn’t ask for nor give Tad a safe word (really Scott??)
Nevertheless, Tad finds himself thoroughly enjoying his flogging (and other things) from Scott, and he quickly switches from arguing to begging Scott to let him cum….
Consent issues and somewhat awkward portrayal of bisexual awakening aside…this is incredibly hot. And as it is an erotic novella, this is a great example (imo) of an author who really understood the assignment. ...more

What I loved: Emer3.25 Stars
Okay, I'm kinda torn with this book, there are some things I REALLY liked, but other things that just did not work for me.
What I loved: Emerson- A grumpy hero with MS who wants to be a dom, but is afraid and ashamed because of how his body looks and how his body doesn't always do what he wants it to. Obie - Loved the sunshine, golden retriever love interest. Obie is able to look past Emerson's prickliness, but he isn't a complete pushover. He takes care of Emerson when he needs it, but doesn't treat him like a child because of his MS, and he pushes Emerson to live a full life and embrace his sexual desires. Side characters - They were well developed and well written. Soap opera style - I used to love watching soaps, and I enjoyed the soapy elements in this. Relationship focus - The story revolves around the characters and their relationship without much plot. The sex scenes - Very well done, they flowed naturally from the characters, and they added to the development of Emerson and Obie's relationship.
(very slight spoilers ahead)
What didn't work for me: Unresolved conflict - At one point, Emerson lashes out at Obie after they are intimate, then they separate for a time, and then they just sort of...get back together. They never talk about what happened, and it made me worry for their relationship in the future. Development of relationship - The two MCs get together quickly, and then about halfway through, the development of their relationship just sort of stops and the focus switches to the side characters. There are large jumps in time, and we are just meant to accept that they are now in a loving relationship, but then there is the weird third act breakup mentioned above. Character arcs - Emerson and Obie don't really go through arcs - which is maybe intentional since soap opera characters don't really go through arcs either...but, it was sort of halfway done in this which didn't work for me.
I guess overall there is more that I liked than not, but the things that I didn't like kinda left me unsatisfied overall. ...more

This was amazing and pretty much exactly what I was in the mood to read!
Little Demon in the Details is the story of Mercer, a needy, attention seeking brat (his words) and Blake, a surprisingly patient and emotionally intelligent hitman who is great at reading people, and (in Mercer's words) a "romantic murderer".
There is so much hurt-comfort in this, and surprisingly little angst considering the level of brattiness that Mercer displays (very high brattiness). As it turns out, Mercer's bratty behavior stems from a lifetime of trauma and undiagnosed PTSD, and Blake accepts him and falls for him hard exactly how he is.
Oh, and there's a lot of sex. I didn't really know what a cumslut was before reading this...and I feel like I've just gotten a very thorough education. But...it's not just kinky sex for kinky sex's sake (although, that would have been great too). The kinky sex legit feels like part of the healing process for Mercer as well as Blake. I just loved everything about their relationship.
The plot is pretty contrived, and at points, a little ridiculous. But the story is not really about murder for hire and family secrets, it's about Blake and his little demon and it's wonderful. ...more

I absolutely loved this and I basically forsook all my responsibilities today so I could finish reading it. I loved the first book in the series but this one was even better because the FMC was not annoying or immature at all. In fact, she starts off being very likeable and clever and goes through a really wonderful character arc - as does the mmc. This one was even funnier than the first, and the smut was even hotter--that scene where the mmc (view spoiler)[ shows the fmc how to touch herself (hide spoiler)] O.M.G..... Part of me wished there was just a little more spice because it was SO good, but another part of me wouldn't want to mess with perfection, which this book IS.

Listen...the plot and character development in this book is mediocre at best. The story is pretty cliche and very contrived, the word "OK" (not okay, but OK) is used way too much, and I personally didn't like the blatant sexually harassment against Gabe in the beginning (although, I think I would have been okay with it if it was a man doing the harassing, so I guess that says more about me than the book). The smut, however, was 10 effing stars. It's like Charlotte Stein got into my brain and found every secret fantasy and put it on paper. And...to be fair, the book is 95% smut. So taking all that into consideration, this averages out to 5/5 stars. ...more

I'm not normally a fan of age gaps and teenage FMCs (or even poly relationships), but these characters were all so complex and real and flawed and beautifully written that I didn't mind at all.
Douglas definitely pushes a lot of boundaries in this book, I would love to read more from her but I don't think I could go much further as far as taboo situations, this was perfect.
The character development got a little confusing in the second half of the book for me. I felt like it was a little hard to get a handle on some of the MCs, but I think that also goes to show that these are very flawed characters not meant to be two dimensional or ideals AT ALL.
It takes a while for things to heat up, there is a nice slow burn...but once things get started...holy hotness.... ...more
