Honest to god, I was questioning my reading comprehension throughout this book, but I'm 80% sure I'm not stupid and this book is to blame.

So I picked Honest to god, I was questioning my reading comprehension throughout this book, but I'm 80% sure I'm not stupid and this book is to blame.

So I picked this up, read a couple chapters, and then immediately put it down to double check that there weren't any books I was supposed to read before this one.

Why did I do that? Because I was confused as fuck.

FYI: this is actually the first in this duet/series, the writing is just a clusterfuck. Literally.

It's a mess. I felt like that mad detective with the murder board trying to keep track of what the fuck was going on and who was who. Names and nicknames are used out of nowhere so I would read an introduction to a character, move forward, another name is used for the same person but I would think it's someone else, continue reading, realize that that's the same person, and then go back to reread and connect the dots all over again. The writing was disjointed from chapter to chapter (and tbh within the chapter). Plot was also weak, and the characters are fine. I like the mashup of rockstars, songwriters, and bodyguards. They're a colorful bunch, if not flat.

None of these characters actually stick to their convictions, they all fold relatively quickly. Character round up:
Lyric - FMC, Omega. Gifted song writer daughter of a rock legend and a horrible mother.
Saint - Beta, British. Is the Saint to Lyric's Sinner. Gets dumped early in the book.
Griffin - Alpha, bodyguard. His uncle owns the security firm and is sus?
Lach - Alpha, rockstar. Snorts shit with Lyric on roofs. Is a womanizer before her.
Callan - Alpha, sweetie pie nerdy soft bi boy who was in a toxic relationship with a woman. also was romantically involved with his now deceased bandmate.
Rook - Alpha, childhood flame of FMC.
Riggs/Walker - Alpha bodyguards, not romantic interests but fun. Loved the weird uncle and grandma jokes.
Dex, Isaac, Love - FMC's friends and past hookups?
Jamen/JJ - Rook's dad, Lyric's dad's bandmate. Head of the record company. modeler.

And that's about it, I think.

Overall, did not enjoy the reading experience, but also this one ended in a yummy cliffhanger therefore I will be jumping into the sequel, thank you. ...more
