I normally stay in a contemporary lane but I need more escapism and that simply cannot be found in most contemporary pages without super cheesiness that just isn't palatable for me right now. Alas! This gem came to my rescue! I felt as though it was very much character driven. I enjoyed Alaric's backstory as it gave reason for his personality traits and behaviors. Emma was just a doll yet fiercely independent and intelligent. I normally dislike Virgin h tropes but this one got a pass. And I saw a review that said this has a distracting OW sideline but it really didn't. The "OW" is having an affair with the Duke before the h and H even meet. Then her death is literally part of the plot. So for me, it is not bothersome but woah some readers have a big issue with it. Anywhoz, I enjoyed the writing, pace, and I was surprised by a few of the twists. remeberrrrrrrr different f*cks for different ducks.
