I love the characters, the B&B, and the little town they inhabit. Why is it old homes, businesses and neighborhoods make for the best spooky places?
Our main characters, are delightful and certainly offer a found family, plus a life time of memories with each other. Creaking old houses and floor boards keep reminding everyone of the historical ghosts that inhabit these pages.

A dead body is found at the bottom of a ravine. No identification on the body, but there was a beautiful book in his coat pocket. This is my first Ellery Adams book. It won’t be my last if the rest are as well written as this book. Please note that this book is published by Kensington Cozies. Do not let that trick you into thinking it is a just a pleasant story. This is a real classic mystery, or a women’s lit.
The characters, the town, and the found friends drew me into this story and kept me enthralled until the end. I love the small town vibes. Our four main characters are lonely souls. Women with difficult past lives that make them doubt ever being deserving of best friends in their future. This book is their stories, past and present. The first hurdle is finding a murderer.

The story starts with Everly finding her husband, Paul, in bed with her “best friend”. She declares their marriage over and finds that her rich husband’s prenuptial agreement meant that she was left with only her everyday clothing and personal property. Not even the car she drove was in her own name. This was interesting and kept me wanting to read more.
Everly rents a U-Haul vehicle to transport her meager belongings home to the small town that she grew up in with her mother and father.
This story turns into the beginning of a cozy magical realism story.
