Rebecca Zanetti is one of those authors who are a one-click author for me. So needless to say, I was hyped to have this arc in my possession.
Let's get over with what's good about this book.
The unique magic system. It's a blend of AI technology, social media and magical crystals. Wonder how all three of them connected? Hit this book up.
Second, the he-fell-first trope. Let's just say, due to a precious someone *cough*Sunjae*cough*, I'm into hopelessly devoted male lead. Villain or morally grey as he is, Thorn is definitely an interesting persona.
And that's it guys. I ran out of things to say.
Onto some criticisms I have with this one.
First. Despite the unique magic system, I feel like we weren't given enough exposure or explanation behind them. Heck, it's even jarring in some scenes to see magic and AI tech being talk about in the same sentence. I want things to make sense. I want to understand how things work. So unfortunately, I wasn't satisfied with how things are. I mean, smut is smut. But when you promise an interesting magical system, I think I deserved to be stimulated a little bit in that department.
Second. I don't like the dynamic between the two leads. Yeesh, this could be my problem though. It seems like my standard is a little too high and so does my expectations of this book. I found our girl to be a little subdued, with no backbone. It only required a few touches from our male for her to drop all her independent self and submit to him. Hell, this could be another thing where my preference took a huge part on why I struggled with this book. I don't like the dom/sub role in romance book anymore. It's such an imbalance in a couple, especially when it wasn't developed properly. It just feels too empty for me.
Anyway, like I said, this could be my problem. My head just expected something else and this book delivered a different thing. With that said, don't let me deter you. If you love a darker gritty version of Beauty and the Beast retelling with a unique magic system, you should try it out. Never say no, you know....more

This book was my first omegaverse in a very loooong while. Heck, I don't even remember when was my last book.
As the norm with this niche of a genre, get yourself ready for a morally grey/antihero hero and an uncomfortable amount of bodily fluids and graphic descriptions of con non-con (or was it non con? Idunno. It's hard to guess with this genre).
Anyway, with this one particular one, it has that mix of your traditional fantasy romance with kingdoms and impending invasions. As for the tropes, expect enemies to lovers, true mates, antiheroes, forced proximity, living in enemy's camp, some tortures stuffs etc.
As for my own opinion, it's a good mesh of your typical omegaverse book (and the subsequent plot devices) and your typical fantasy with warring kingdoms. I guess we'll see how the world building expand in the next book, or it could just end there and focus on the unique dynamic of Alpha-omega. For now, I'm still undecided. We'll see, peeps.

It was that kind of book where you don't use your head much. Where stuffs happened and you just enjoy the ride. Low angst and steamy moments.

It is a completely on-brand kinda book for these duos. The absolute taboo storyline (I mean the last time I read a book about a grandpa and a granddaughter, it was Jessa Kane's), a possessive older alpha asshole (not even Jeffrey Dean Morgan in my mind could fix this), completely unhuman-like interactions, and no depth whatsoever. I mean, if you're looking for an erotic book, yeah why not. Just, maybe I should stop looking for romance in books like this.
Plus, voyeurism/exhibitionism? If it was done to get a point across, I could get behind it. But as a normal kink, I don't think I can enjoy that whatsoever.

That out of the way, this one reminded me of Trancendence. Just a little bit. Our guy is here not as sweet as Ehd. Oh no, he's definitely not. The things he did to our girl. I have no idea how she forgives him so easily.
Yup. That's where the dark romance comes in. Because if this is a your typical contemporary, I dunno why, but I would find it hard to look pass what he did early in the book. Alas, it's dark. You'll know it's dark when he wouldn't let her leave.
Yeesh. In terms of writing, I like it. I have never read a book from this author before, so I'll keep an eye on her releases from now on. The plot, crazy ass alpha hero aside, you know I couldn't not enjoy a good crazy possessive caveman attacking his mate, albeit it was hard (no pun intended) to swallow the earlier scenes.
All in all, heck, I enjoyed it. The super protective brothers? What's their issues btw?
Anyway, since this one was super quick, you can't actually ask for more. Something needs to go. But the Roommates turned lovers? Where can I get more?

Because she gotta be one of the fastest authors to become my all time favourites.
With that said thouWHO IS THIS AUTHOR? WHICH HOLE DID SHE COME FROM?
Because she gotta be one of the fastest authors to become my all time favourites.
With that said though. Before you adding her on your TBR. Listen. I know my community here. I know some of you are freaks. And you'll fucking love her as much as I do right now. So go ahead. Have as much fun as I do with this one.
However, there's another half of you would find this... umm. How should I say this? Too much? The one that didn't like too much fluids in their romance. Because, honestly, this one is so filthy.
Also, would never in a million years, expect this kind of story from that cover alone. Serve me right for judging a book by itWoof.
They did it a lot.

Honestly, the only thing that come into mind whenever I'm trying to summarise this one, was that we nearly get that dragon-human action. NEARLY. And I said that with a hint of disappointment. Haha. Ha.
It was a pretty engaging story, though the length could be shorten a bit there. The sex was a lot. And it was hot.
The only thing that bothered me was the info dumping in the end. I dislike info dumping in my book, especially towards the end. It's so distracting. Where we have this high action scene, and proceeded with a storytime about the history of the world. Scattered the dump and probably it would've been better.
Anyway, it was still a great time for me! But yeah. Could end on a better note.

I think I've read one Kel Carpenter book before, and honestly I don't think I was that impressed. Maybe it was the dud or the wrong timing, because this one grabbed my attention like nothing else.
Technically, it was not twisty turn or did something other books haven't. It is still comprised of your typical fantasy romance hero and heroine. The push and pulls of one misunderstood entity and the guardian who has to keep him from destroying the world.
Hell, aside from a few aspects, it reminded me of a couple books.
However, coming out from my slump, I find enjoyment in things that I usually look at very critically before. For me, as long as I couldn't stop reading it, staying up till 4 in the morning clutching my e-reader, it means it did its job.
