I enjoyed this, and it got me curious enough to read the whole thing pretty quickly, but I did find it a bit repetitive and slow to the point where I was strongly tempted to skim read (though I didn't because I try not to, as a general rule for reading!).
The one thing that kind of got me to not believe in the story as much as I would have liked was the same thing that actually got me interested in the very start: the story being told as a long letter. In the beginning I thought that was a fun way of doing it, but as I read on it just didn't work. There are way to many details (lying in the moonlight, looking at the beautiful nature etc) and dialogues that would not have been repeated in a letter, and even though the main character acknowledges this herself by (point out "I know that I'm going on and on...") it still doesn't make it believable as there are so many small and insignificant details that no one would consider including in this type of letter.
All in all, an enjoyable psychological thriller that manages to intrigue and create a creepy atmosphere, but that fails to bring anything new to the table and become more than "just another book" in this popular genre. A big plus for not being overly dramatic and hysterical, as so many of these books tend to do, going over the top with one twist after another. And also a plus for gathering up the many subtle hints (necklace, flower, etc) in an elegant way that didn't seem forced or rushed or "artificial". Another plus for not having a long epilogue, and a plus for not having a prologue (seriously, I am almost getting annoyed and turned off all thrilled with prologues as so many of them use it without really needing it, like a desperate attempt to show the reader that "Hey! Be patient, this thing here will happen and it's soooo worth waiting for, please don't close the book!!!" ... Anyway, I digress)....more
3,5 stars. Perfect psychological thriller with the beloved Milly that I've grown to love during these two books. To me this is kind of guilty pleasure 3,5 stars. Perfect psychological thriller with the beloved Milly that I've grown to love during these two books. To me this is kind of guilty pleasure as I read for the pure thrill and entertainment, without looking for or expecting a brilliant piece of literature. That said, the writing IS good, and I am happy to report that it's to the point, doesn't dragg out with long back stories and explanations of how each character came to be the way they are. No unnecessary details, explanations or repetitions. All Things I greatly appreciate. This makes the reading experience intense, fast and fluid. I also like how there's a fair bit of sarcastic humor, without it seeming forced or out of place to Definitely hoping for a follow up. I want more Milly...more

Finally a psychological thriller that's not "over the top" with illogical, forced and exaggerated twists. I did see how it would turn out long before it happened, though, but still enjoyed it.
Perfect thriller for when you just want to be entertained and enjoy a little excitement without a complicated plot or a long list of characters to keep track of....more
