It is a slow burn action thriller. The part I liked the most about this novel is how Tom Clancy doesn’t give a god complex to the hero of the story - Jack Ryan. He is an ex marine, naval history teacher, and has his limitations. He doesn’t do impossible, hard to swallow stunts. He gets hurt. He makes mistakes. This is what makes the story and its characters believable. ...more

Hats off to Tom Clancy for all the research that went into writing this techno thriller. Every single instrument, procedure and mode of transport is described in great detail. This book is truly a masterpiece.
The story is simple. It is a hunt for a Russian submarine named, red October. I do feel this whole novel could have been finished in half the pages. But I guess it is the deep technical detail that makes it, or should I say sets it, apart from other technical thrillers. ...more

The book could have been written in half the pages if it was not filled with unnecessary details, like we don’t want to know about the Color of the lace on Elayne’s silk dress or the cuffs of Rand’s coat. I skipped so many useless paragraphs just like this. ...more

Only the last few chapters of the book are interesting and would keep you on the edge of the seat.
I feel this book was unnecessarily long. The author was desperately trying to make it bigger with unnecessary paragraphs and explanations. Sometimes I would skip paragraphs and paragraphs in a chapter and would still find myself at the same place. The story would not have moved an inch.
One thing I found very annoying was the author taking a sudden interest in people’s clothing. He would explain in great detail what all the characters are wearing every single time they appear in the chapter and the explanations would run into several paragraphs. Sometimes you enjoy explanations about people’s clothes, building’s architecture and the city’s plans but only when it is done right. In this book, it felt like it was done to fill pages.
All in all, as a wheel of time enthusiast I enjoyed reading the book and I am looking forward for the next one. ...more

Some of the major characters were completely absent from the story, which is not that surprising as the author often does that. Hopefully they will return stronger in the next book.
Each character’s storyline moved at a quick pace. This book reminded me a lot of the first three books where story moved a quick pace. Hopefully this will continue in later series as well. ...more

It felt like the author decided to take the readers on a long nap with this one. Rand al Thor moved from one place to another, that’s it. That’s all that happened.
The book is very long and very boring and filled with unnecessary descriptions of weather, dresses and topography so much so that I skipped a few paragraphs and sometimes pages and still the author was describing the same thing.
Any action in the novel was short lived. Happened too quickly and with very little built up (like what unfolded at the White Tower).
All the things that happened in this novel, could have been told in one third of the length of the novel. I guess this is what happens when you don’t know where you want to take the story and just want to stretch it till something comes out of it. ...more

There was literally no end to it, as it went on and on and that is what I loved about it. You could snuck under your sheets with this novel in hand and get lost in cormoran strike’s London.
The suspense in the novel was okay, it was hard to keep track of all the names, but i felt justice was not done to the side stories in the novel, especially robin and strike. There wasn’t enough storyline for Robin and her ex husband Matthew, who comes into the picture for a very brief moment at the very end in the novel.
Overall it was a good story, but I felt Lethal White had more drama than this one. ...more
