Profiling the different people in your life, finding the one I can befriend, the one who will lead me to you. When I'm done, I know everything I possibly can about you, and most of the people around you. By the time you're saying 'nice to meet you', I've already known you for months.
Does this worry you? It should."
Meg White (if that IS her real name) is the woman in question. She blends into your life, carefully plotting, planning, and scheming to get close...and then she makes her move. All of this crafty manipulation has been building over the years, though, and Meg is on a quest to take back what is rightfully hers. After a man wronged her in the most horrifying manner possible, Meg wound up living in her car with her mother, and with 10 years of resentment building to a fever pitch, she has returned to ruin HIS career, and everything HE holds dear...but will she get the chance to 'return the favor'?
Kat Williams hopes not. After all, 'Meg' is the one who ruined HER life...and as a journalist, she has the tools, the smarts, and the determination to expose Meg for who she REALLY is, once and for all. But once she makes contact with Meg, she discovers there are many layers to Meg...and she begins to actually LIKE her. When she learns that Meg's ambitions are not only to make one evil man pay...but MANY...Kat finds the proposition more than intriguing, and she's left with an unexpected choice. Does she write the story of the CENTURY and expose Meg...or does she put her own cunning and brainpower into this enterprise, proving that two intelligent, determined women can do ABSOLUTELY anything...and take down the men who have ruined their lives...for GOOD?
I think it says enough that I finished this book IN JANUARY (!) and despite spending 2023 behind with advanced copy reviewing, that I was BOUND and determined to write a review for this one. Julie Clark is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors in the genre, and her bold, brilliant, crafty, and enticing writing kept me glued to the pages from beginning to end! After her previous book The Last Flight, I found it hard to believe that Clark could live up to her OWN standard, with a book that was so deftly plotted, so unputdownable, with writing that crackled and sparked throughout.
But once I picked this one up...there was NO putting it down!
Kat and Meg absolutely SHINE throughout the pages of this novel. Both women are brilliant in their own way...and if you think you are incapable of rooting for a con woman...just wait till you spend a little bit of time with Meg!...more

In all honesty, Feeney is just a MASTER of the craft on SO many levels, that I am always dumbstruck when I finish one of her books. I don't know what it is, or how she does it. But with each book I read, Alice Feeney manages to pull me out of my world ENTIRELY and I am all too willing to get lost in hers!
