Definitely not something I would normally read but I have to admit it WAS interesting...in a twisted, gross, fucked up way. Please don't ask me to plot review; I don't think I can.
ETA: Alright, so after thinking about this story some more and reading other reviews, I've realized that I saw this story totally differently from most of those other readers and I have come to the conclusion (with some assistance) that that is totally the point. To be able to interpret this story in multiple ways. So here is my take on it. If you ever plan on reading this story, I strongly suggest you DO NOT read my spoiler.
(view spoiler)[So many people saw this as a sweet, romantic story about Steve finding love. Maybe it's my educational/work background as a nurse along with what's been going on in my life recently, but I see this is tragic and horrific. I see CANCER; maybe not even the actual diagnosis of cancer, but as something that is abnormal and malignant and replicating and spreading itself throughout ____ (fill in the blank). Steve was trying to help is girlfriend Stacy and whatever is inside of her has changed and corrupted him. He is now as malignant as Fig and her people. I see the skeletons as the good cells and the bad cells since there were 2 kinds. And Steve was mutated and changed for the bad. He was "forced" to procreate with Fig, replicating whatever they are supposed to be. We know that there is "cancer" or a dead area inside of Stacy. And then when "they" were all so excited about Stacy's impregnation, I saw that to mean they can now attach themselves to her daughter and keeping their "species" alive for generations and generations to come. I see Stacy dying shortly after her baby is born and never being able to warn her daughter of her experience; just as I believe the same had happened to Stacy's mother. (hide spoiler)]
While the writing here feels very elementary on the surface, if you look a little deeper, its really not. The entire time I was reading it, I was thinking to myself "This is the stupidest thing I have ever read." Even after I finished it and wrote my original review I thought it was just too out there. So, after thinking about it a lot, I'm bumping this story up from 3 stars to 4 simply because of all the thought processes this thing put me through.
I recommend this to anyone who is willing to think outside the box for atleast few hours....more
