This is such a sweet, adorable book. It’s told from Al’s POV and it’s basically him telling the story of key points of his relationship with Larry. You see, Al is kinda “simple”. A lot like a big scary teddy bear that is “refreshingly direct.” He’s a little innocent and not very book smart. He just kinda goes with the flow and doesn’t make any waves. Then one night he meets Larry, a college professor, in a dark alley. And that’s where Al starts the story.
It took me til about midway through before I really fell in love with story. Al is such a sweetheart and Larry just loves him for who he is. I found it to be quite romantic even though it did have a lot of sex.
Some of my favorite quotes:
I went and kissed him to wake him up just like Sleeping Beauty. Although I guess with me it was more like Beauty and the Beast.
I didn’t say nothing ‘cause there was lots of stuff we hadn’t done. I hoped Larry didn’t want to get into weird shit like PVC, ‘cause that stuff gives me a rash.
”You reckon? There’s nothing of me in that boy. Not a bleedin’ thing. When the midwife give him to me, I said ‘Take him back, I asked for a small one!’ And she goes ‘Sorry, love, round here all sales are final!’ and hands me a flippin’ elephant! Bleedin’ massive, he was. If it’d been up to me, I’d still’ve been on the gas and air three weeks later. He’s the spit of his father, though, bless him.”
She calls me Al, and I call her Ali, which always makes me smile, ‘cause it sounds like alley and reminds me of when me and Larry first met.
I recommend this to everyone! It’s refreshing and unique…just like Al!!
Last Line: (view spoiler)[So anyway, I guess it’s not just fucking after all, Larry and me. Although, you know, the fucking’s pretty good too.(view spoiler)[

4.5 stars because the resolution was a bit too easy

The series has ALL the feels and I could NOT put it down!!!
Book 1 and 2 are VERY high school drama-ish. But the characters and dialogue are so soooooo good! But yeah, Lara Jean can get kind of annoying and childish...but that's all part of her charm!
Book 3 is completely different! Lara Jean has grown a lot in the last year...almost to the point of selfishness. But I think it was time to put herself before others.
I cried some UGLY tears even at the happy parts!! I was still blubbering 30 minutes after closing the book, even though it had a happy/hopeful ending. I all just felt so real!!...more

Team Peter K all the way! Kitty is my favorite character. And John Ambrose McClaren needs his own series....more

As with Out in the Open and Out on a Limb, I ended up binge reading this book! I started reading late one night, planning to stop after only a few chapters, and next thing I know it’s 3 in the morning and I’m almost finished!! Work was EXTREMELY painful the next day.
More about the book…
When Mac arrives to Browerton his freshman year, he’s determined to be out and proud. He meets Gideon at a fresher mixer and determines there is a high probability that Gideon is flirting with him. When Mac finally makes a move, Gideon is horrified and the two men spend the next two years avoiding each other. Flash-forward past those two years: Gideon is suddenly in need of a roommate, and Mac shows up knocking on his door looking to rent a room.
I LOVED this book!! No, it isn’t perfect and is entirely too predictable, but it just hit on all the things I love when reading new adult. Especially when it comes to the CRAZY HOT experimentation…and everything else that comes with a good out-for-you story. Both guys have their quirks: Gideon, the compulsive liar and neat-freak, and Mac, the slobby roommate with the massive “non-banana” hidden in his Jenga-ish pile of junk. Gideon with his fear of no longer being the “good son” and Mac with his fear of being left alone and rejected. Somehow, Gideon and Mac are able to overcome their differences and reservations and discover they were meant to be together in the end. But it won’t be easy getting there.
Both characters were believable and easy to connect with. I smiled, I laughed out loud, and I even teared up a few times…sad tears and happy tears. I don’t want to spoil the ending, but I was happy it ended with all the big obstacles resolved.
Oh oh oh, I almost forgot to mention the few cameos of Greg and Ethan from Out in the Open. Again, I also recommend their book, but it isn’t necessary to enjoy Gideon and Mac’s story.
Hmm, who will become the next gay love story at Browerton University??

I almost "one-clicked" this book several times on Amazon and thankfully I didn't as it was the book included in August's Uppercase Box. I had been in the mood for a good contemporary young adult novel but couldn't decide on one.
This was fun and adorable and hit the spot for my cravings for something cute. ...more
