All unicorns are born with metal horns that give them their power and Blue’s is different. Also from early on it is said that a blue unicorn is supposed to be their savior. Blue doesn’t let this bother him and uses his other strengths to get by. Throughout the book Blue goes on a quest to figure out how to save the tribe and gains confidence, friends and the trust of the other unicorns. You can follow his adventure using the wonderfully detailed map that’s included in the book. This story is unique in how the unicorns each have different powers based on the metal their horns are made of and also because they are not even from earth. I really enjoyed it and found it to be quite interesting and entertaining. Blue made a huge transformation throughout the book and it’s quite a feat to observe. ...more

The jungle noir style was so unique for a book like this and I think kids who listen to it will enjoy it immensely. On top of the mystery there are also many different endangered species introduced along with some facts about each. This is also great for kids. At a few points there were a lot of characters bustling around at which could get overwhelming but I wouldn’t really say it took away from the story. Overall this was a really fun listen and I look forward to more adventures in the life of Jake G. Panda!

Jackson Blackwell is not just a villain. He’s the villain who advises all other villains on how to improve their villainous ways. The problem is that Jackson Blackwell is not just a villain. He’s the villain who advises all other villains on how to improve their villainous ways. The problem is that on this last job he seems to have been betrayed and gotten himself stuck in an alternate dimension where his life is on the line. This book had a great storyline. I loved that the villain was the main character. Jackson is a great antihero. The other characters in the book are a diverse group of exaggerated fantasy tropes which work nicely into the story. They’re so extreme it’s perfect. The character I liked best aside from Jackson was his assistant. She balanced him out really well. The only fault I had with the book were that parts dragged a bit where Jackson’s monologues got out of hand. I think the author knew that at times they might be over done and tried to acknowledge it but it didn’t completely cancel out the fact that they got boring once they ran on past a certain point. Other than that I enjoyed the audiobook a lot. The narrator did a great job with Jackson’s character. He performed those parts with an appropriately arrogant and sardonic air. The other characters were also easily distinguishable from each other. This book was really witty, sarcastic and funny. It’s dark and refreshing. I’ll definitely be looking out for the next book in the series.

Another fun installment in the Circles of Hell series. However, I didn't find this one to be as exciting and full of cat and mouse mystery situations Another fun installment in the Circles of Hell series. However, I didn't find this one to be as exciting and full of cat and mouse mystery situations as the previous books. That's not to say that I didn't enjoy it. Steve as always was his usual wry witty self hurrying through Hell only willing to use his sarcasm to torture the damned though he was commanded by Satan to do much more. This time he was in the Demon Corp. which made him more miserable that usual. It was funny just not my favorite of the 4 books so far. ...more

It's a very character driven YA contemporary novel. Thompson goes on quite the emotional journey throughout the story. He learns about love, loss and true friendship. Through the music of Elvis, the support of his friends Ronnie and Greta, and his newfound friendship with Johnny, Elvis impersonator, Thompson's world is changed. This novel is really a great coming of age story about heartbreak, new beginnings and moving forward. It's like a breath of fresh air. ...more

It's an intriguing concept and I almost felt as though the story was too short. I wanted to know what the gods intended purpose was with the people they were controlling. It was also unclear who was capturing them though the story was wrapped up nicely. I liked the idea of old world gods inserting themselves into modern times. This was a thought provoking read though not something I would usually choose.

I shouldn't have expected anything less. Since I discovered Sarah Noffke's work a few years ago I've been nothing but blown away by all of the books I've gotten my hands on. This trilogy was no different. The world is one like ours but full of magic that is described in detail in both a dark yet whimsical fashion. The circus is a place meant to become a home for Dream Travelers who have none and a place of wonder for patrons who want to believe there is more to this world. The characters have depth to them and are well thought out. Their relationships are intense and pushed to the limits but the love between the characters is also powerful. Yes there is some instalove but I'm fine with that because it works. It's there but it's not easy and I wanted it to happen. Dave created the Vagabond Circus to bring happiness and magic to the outside world. Zuma was born there. It's in her blood. Jack and Jasmine her fellow acrobats are like family. Finley strives to be a part of it though there is something that sets him apart from the others. That is just the tip of the iceberg of complexities of the society of the Circus and the people who make it up. The plot of this trilogy is fast moving and intriguing. It gets you hooked right from the start. Once I started listening I couldn't stop. I'd planned to take a break between books but just zoomed through all three once I had started. I needed to know how it ended. There were so many new developments I didn't want to stop. I thought I had predicted the twist at the end but I was wrong. And the end was amazing! I know I could have gone into a description of the whole story of the book but I'm sure you have read that in the book summary and other reviews so I figured I'd skip it. One more thing is the narrator. At first I wasn't sure if I was going to like him but as the book went on I decided that he fit the tone of the book well. I've listened to 3 of the author's series now all with different narrators and each suited its own series well. In the beginning I'm always a bit apprehensive but then when can I really begin to let myself listen and be taken away by the book; that's when I can tell the narrator is right for the series.

This book is so heartbreaking. The social issues it tackles are extremely intense and it is done really well. No one should have to go through things This book is so heartbreaking. The social issues it tackles are extremely intense and it is done really well. No one should have to go through things that Wayne went through. No one should have to feel that alone and alienated from their own family. As hard as this book was to read I think that it's also a really important book because it shows some very realistic though horrible outcomes of what can happen to people who are different in unaccepting families and societies. I"m glad that the book wasn't wrapped up in a nice little bow at the end. It was on a positive note but everything was definitely not resolved and I think that was a more realistic way to go. I hope that there is a 3rd book in this series so we can see how Wayne grows as a person now that he has left his hometown and has some room to breathe. I enjoyed the first two books much more than i had anticipated. They're very well written and as I said the issues addressed are complicated.

I liked Sarah's character and the determination that drove her search for answers. I felt for her. She was basically on her own not only because all her friends and family thought she was crazy but also because anytime she encountered someone who believed her they were unwilling to help. The story was well written and well paced for the most part. There were some parts that dragged on a bit towards the beginning but it picked up and moved steadily along after that. The ending pulled everything together which is something I tend to like. Overall it was a satisfying book to read....more

So far it's my favorite in the series. I didn't think it would be at first but I ended up loving it. This series is very character driven and that's what I love about it. Rory is what got me. He's so loyal and steadfast, not to mention hot! I didn't think I was going to like Scarlett but once I understood her I felt differently. I also liked the addition of the two new characters Booker and Storm. They're outsiders to the syndicate so I'm hoping that they come up again in future books or even get one of their own. This book had a very solid plot and a consistent pace. Scarlett's backstory had me hooked right away. I felt the need for her revenge as much as she did. As far as the pace, there were places in the other books that had lagged but this one really kept things moving. Once again the narrator was Tracy Marks. I don't know how she does it but her voices and accents are out of this world. You would never know it was just one woman speaking and not several different men and women from different places with different accents. I wish I was able to choose the narrator I wanted for all of my books because I would choose her. She's unbelievable! This series has really surprised me. As I've said before it's not something I'd usually read but now that I have I can't stop. I'm so happy I came across it and had asked to read and review the first book. That doesn't always work out but in this case it definitely did!

Throughout the book many emotions are expressed and displayed through her words. She has dealt with and worked through many demons. She says as much in her forword and in the poems themselves. Poetry is something to be interpreted differently from one person to the next. I personally enjoyed the poems in the book that contained more raw emotion than those that were told more as a story. I also felt some were a bit more disjointed than others. The poem "Today" was one of my favorites. Overall the book was an enjoyable and quick read. 3.5 stars
