And I loved every minute of it. Illuminae is the intro into the Illuminae Files trilogy and I am all for it. The format is unique, being in that of a dossier recounting the events aboard the Hypatia, but predominately the Alexander, a military vessel heading an SOS by the illegal mining community on basically a speck in the middle of Space being assaulted by the mega-corporation, BeiTech Industries. Yeah. That's a lot to deal with. But oh my god, was it spectacular. Now all this is going on through the lens of our two protagonists, Kady and Ezra. Did I mention they broke up right before the shit hit the fan? I could make this an in-depth review, but I'm not going to. This is going to be short and sweet. The Illuminae files puts you right in the action and makes you feel like a part of the story. I can't remember the last time I read something so utterly immersive to the point that it made me cry. Now, if you'll excuse me. I need to go get the sequel. ...more

I could ramble about this book for forever, but you know what? It wouldn't do it justice. Crooked Kingdom is not a book you read, it's an experience you live through. Bardugo did a near flawless job with these two books that it made up for all the wrong I felt while reading the Grisha trilogy. This is what good writing looks like. This is what a good story is. Do I wish she'd come back to these thugs and miscreants in the future? God yes, I'd love nothing more. Till then, these two books are going to be something that I get hardcovers of. This is something special, and I will recommend it to anyone out there who loves adventure....more

There were all the elements of an amazing story. Dynamic characters, Interesting and witty dialogue, awesome setting, and a super dangerous situation. This book did not relent!
After reading the Grisha trilogy, this felt like a love letter to all the fans who tolerated that series and now rewarded them with sticking around so long. It made me happy.
Am I going to read the sequel? Duh. Hell, I already bought that before I even started this book.
So do yourself a favor. Drop whatever you're doing an read this awesome adventure. Woot woot....more

Marina made my soul hurt, and oh what a delicious hurt it was. My favorite novel of all time is Shadow of the Wind, though now I feel like that is now up for debate. I could go on and give you a synopsis, but that seems pointless. Goodreads does that for you. I just need you to understand that there is magic within these pages that you should try....more

But don't let that make Golden Son any less than what it is; like a shot of adrenaline to the heart. Good god, the last half of the book just had me in anticipation. Everything was going well, too well. This book needed to implode, and let me tell you...it was awesome! It obviously had some flaws, but hey, I'm not looking for perfection, just a really fun ride. I luckily already own the final installment in the trilogy, but I honestly think I need a breather. I'll go read something fluffy before what I imagine what will be absolute carnage! ...more

While my tracker indicates that it took me a week to read, I feel that's inaccurate. I inhaled Traitor to the Throne in three days. Life got in the way, but I finished this fast. I couldn't help it. So much was going on, the pace just never let up! It had me constantly craving to know what happened next that I read a third of this book in one sitting. This is what a book should be, and goodness, I don't know how I'm going to be able to go on until the third book is released. Is it 2018 yet?
EDIT: Ahem! I read this exactly one a year. This time I inhaled it in less than 24 hours. > > I guess I really wanted to read the last one!...more

It is by no means anything groundbreakingly original, but whose to say that's a bad thing? It left me feeling warm and fuzzy inside, and at the end of the day that's all that truly matters. I bought my copy for the equivalent of a dollar, but this is a story I love enough to buy a brand new copy of my own. I have a feeling I'll want to read this again in the future....more

I had to stop reading because Daniel was being an annoying teenager and I wasn't willing to go through with feeling claustrophobic in a book when I was already feeling claustrophobic on a plane. The point is, it took me a while to get back into it, and I'm so glad I did.
Shadow of the Wind is now by far my favorite novel, something that I go back to yearly to reread. Don't let the slow start get the better of you like it did with me. It's unfortunately something you're going to have to power through to get to the meat of that story and damn is it a worthwhile ride.
I could give a brief synopsis of the book, but that just seems like a waste of space. I'd much rather talk about how exciting this book made me feel, the thrill of the mystery unfolding right before my eyes! As an aspiring writer, Carlos Ruis Zafón has provided me with a goal, and as a teenager he was my total hero.
I'm not one to usually recommend books to people, but The Shadow of the Wind is the one book I always recommend to friends and enemies alike. While Zafón lost the magic that he so wonderfully orchestrated here in the prequel, I still encourage everyone to give this book a try, especially for all those book lovers out there....more
