These characters are so pretentious and insufferable that I didn't care about any of them. And for a piece of literary fiction that revolves around a group of characters and a "mysterious death" it had 0 personality. Why was Oliver the way he was? Why didn't the author dive more into his sexuality since it was clearly a huge deal in the grand scheme of things? And why was I able to guess the "twist" so early on? Sigh. I wanted to love this one and while there's some redeemable aspects to it I think it feel short considering all the glowing reviews I've seen/ ...more

If you’re a fan of dark romances set in an academic setting, then I think this series would be a good fit for you. Overall, I liked this one, but I didn’t enjoy it as much as I did the first in the series. I think it’s because both books are SO similar- it’s like the author just changed the characters names and past circumstances but left everything else the same. It’s totally possible I just read them too close together which is why I feel like this, so I’ll wait a bit before diving into the third one.

I think you can gather that from the title lol. But I’ve been wanting to read something darker and saw this one on kindle unlimited, so I decided to give it a try. Honestly, I almost stopped reading right away. The book starts off with an SA, and I didn’t like it. It was too soon and really SHOCKED me. But I pressed on and actually ended up liking the book despite the many times I had to look away. If you’re able to suspend belief and take it for what it is; a work of fiction, then I think it’s a good fit for those who enjoy dark romances.

Its like a crossoveHands down, this has become one of my favorite books of all time and no one can take that away from me! I loved this book SO MUCH. Its like a crossover between two of my favorite fantasy series; Zodiac Academy and ACOTAR but without the Fae and humans changing into mystical creatures. Rebecca Yarros SLAYED this book. It’s fantasy but we aren’t dumped with all the information like in a lot of fantasy books. Instead, we get the history THROUGH the characters as they learn about it themselves. This book is tense in a way that there’s a lot of “fighting to the death” (it’s a war school after all), along with cunning characters. Like enemies to lovers? Well, this has THAT too. And it’s EPIC. All around, this book is just perfection in every way and the ending has me REELING for Iron Flame. I’m so glad I waited as close to release day for that book as I could because the idea of having to wait months would HURT. Highly recommend this one to those who haven’t read it yet. There’s a reason this book is so highly rated!

I read it quickly despite the page count and immediately started book 2 followed by the 3rd which I am on now. To say this series is addicting would truly be an understatement! I can’t stop reading them and frankly I don’t want to. It’s got a lot of great tropes- some which I haven’t read in a long time. With Temptation you get a new adult, college romance with a FORBIDDEN (student/teacher) trope. It’s spicy, bingeable, and dramatic! If you haven’t read the series but are looking for a book with one or all the tropes here, then I recommend grabbing a copy. You can even read them all for free with kindle unlimited!

We all know it’ll come eventually (it’s a romance after all) but everything that leads up to it makes it so much more tantalizing! Filthy Jealous Heir: Part Two is the conclusion to Olivia and Reese’s story. So be sure to read Filthy Jealous Heir part 1 before picking this one up. It’s an enemies-to-lovers bully romance with spice, drama, and unpredictable twists! And it doesn’t end here. More of the heirs will be getting their own stories and I am beyond excited to read them! I don’t want to say much about this one because it could spoil the books if you haven’t read them, but I do recommend them to fans of this genre. It’s a good one!

Filthy Jealous Heir is everything the title describes and more. It’s SPICY, intense, wrought with tension, and has some of the best enemies’ vibes I’ve read in a long time. This book was extremely hard to put down. It’s like once I got started, I became addicted. And now I’m anxiously awaiting more. This is the first book I’ve read from this author duo, and you can be sure that I won’t stop here. This one has me officially enamored with this dark world and the authors amazing storytelling ability.
Dark romance fans need to look no further. Their next 5 star read is wrapped right in between these pages!

My Rating: 3.5 stars Genre Young Adult | High School Romance
Filthy Little Pretties isn’t your typical high school romance. It’s not sweet and swoony My Rating: 3.5 stars Genre Young Adult | High School Romance
Filthy Little Pretties isn’t your typical high school romance. It’s not sweet and swoony with fade to black scenes. Instead, it’s quite a bit more adult and has it’s fair of sex and debauchery. Some say it’s a mix of Gossip Girl and Cruel Intentions (both of which I love ) and I agree to a point. However, don’t expect it to be exactly like either of those because while it does share some similar themes this book isn’t a replica of either movie or show. Was I disappointed in this? Not really. I could watch both of those to get my fix. But there were a few things that fell short for me with this one which I will explain below.
First, I felt like this book lacked some depth. These characters have so many different issues (self-esteem, problems with parents, etc.) but it doesn’t get into them enough. We see snippets and are told that the problems exist, but we don’t see it enough to make it feel real or authentic to their story or actions.
Secondly, (and POSSIBLE SPOILERS ) were led to believe that the heroine is in love with both her best friends who she hasn’t seen in five years. I suppose this would make it a bit of a love triangle but in all honesty everything that would lend itself to the triangle is missing. She’s not really with either of them and she constantly says she wouldn’t choose between them (until she does). Again, it’s more telling than showing through the story. I would have LOVED to see her conflicted emotions and see where they were coming from in her head, and it just wasn’t there.
Now, this book wasn’t a total loss for me as I did give it 3 stars which means I LIKED IT but I needed a little more depth, a little more inner conflict within the characters, and a bit more of a backstory to lend itself to the characters actions.
If you enjoy an upper YA romance with a bit of angst, then this is certainly a book to try. I will give the other books in the series a try because I’d like to see what happens with some of the other characters! ...more
I’ve had Corrupt sitting on my iPad for quite a while now but when I saw that Penelope released the final book in the series New Adult | Dark Romance
I’ve had Corrupt sitting on my iPad for quite a while now but when I saw that Penelope released the final book in the series, I knew I had to start it asap. WOW! I am so glad I did. This is a new adult, dark romance that makes your skin tingle and your hormones FLARE. This is an intense novel, one that teeters on the edge of consent, and is at times, vicious and evil. There were many moments where I felt uncomfortable reading the text, but the same amount of moments that made me feel alive. I mean talk about a book that ROCKS your world! This one did that and so much more. The main reason why this wasn’t a 5-star read for me though was because it DRAGGED in some spots. It felt like it took me forever to read this one and it’s only a little over 400 pages (something I can normally reading in a day or two). Perhaps some of the novel could have been condensed, however, I don’t know if it would have lost its luster if it was shorter. In any event, it’s a good book just a little overdrawn for my taste.
So, would I recommend Corrupt by Penelope Douglas? Absolutely! If you like your books dark, your alpha males POSSESSIVE and INTENSE, and your heroines BOLD, then this is the book for you. I can’t wait to read Kai’s book next. That scene with him, Michael, and Erika was INSANELY hot, and I need so much more of him! Highly recommended, 4 star read! ...more

I never thought I would use this word in a review but WOWZER! This book is insanely hot!!! I think its Meghan’s sexiest book yet! Gosh, I felt like I was MELTING while reading it!!!! Ladies be prepared because Maddox is going to STEAL YOUR HEART. I am not even exaggerating in the slightest either. This man is pure ALPHA GOODNESS! He’s a broody bad boy who likes to fight, but also a caring bear of a man who just wants to love with all his heart! I wanted to cuddle him myself and found that I was a little jealous of Kinsley because she GOT my man! I’ll admit though, it is hard to stay mad at her though because she is the sweetest heroine I have come across in a long time. I love when characters have a heart of gold and oh man did she EVER! I saw a little of me in her too (not the vegan part though). She’s such a kind soul and loves animals just as much as I do. I don’t know if I could work in a shelter and not take every single animal home, but people like her are wonderful! We need more Kinsley’s in the world that’s for sure.
Anyway (I’m still fanning myself) this is a FANTASTIC friends to lover’s romance with enough spice to excite even the biggest prude. Maddox and Kinsley have a great friendship and turning that into something more was breathtaking to watch. Meghan does spin it a little towards the end with a jaw dropping fight that has the potential to cancel out all the good progress these two made, but the makeup and how it happens was MAGICAL. If you’re read Meghan’s books, you’ll know she has some pretty epic breakups and makeups, and this is one you won’t forget for a long time!
My review is clearly all full of excitement because of how much I LOVED this book! It’s going down into one of my all-time favorites of the author and HIGHLY recommend it to all romance readers! This is one of the BEST friends to lover’s romances I have ever read!!!! ...more

The Sinner by Kelsey Clayton is book 1 in the Haven Grace Prep series Release Date: March 12, 2020 Actual Rating: 4 stars
High School Bully Romance
The Sinner by Kelsey Clayton is book 1 in the Haven Grace Prep series and can stand alone. It’s a high school bully romance/childhood friends romance with a lot of emotion, angst, and deceit. For the most part I really liked this book. I’m always itching to get mt hands on a great bully romance and this one ticked many boxes for me. In addition to this, the writing style reminds me of Ella Fields new adult romances mixed with Penelope Douglas (Bully). This is a great combination, right? Some parts of the book got on my nerves (I’ve always hated a mean girl with an elitist attitude) and couldn’t STAND one particular character who needed a punch in the face, but the rest of the novel was great and filled with some gnarly tension. There’s a bit of a secret in this one that readers will be anxious to find out about, but for the most part it’s a story about two people who must learn to coexist in a sea of sharks. It’s a book about revenge, high school kids who were born with silver spoons in their mouths, and a lot of sexual chemistry between enemies. This is a fairy quick read and I breezed right through this one in a matter of hours. Soaking up the sun and warmth while reading a great book? That’s what I call a GREAT day!
If you’re looking for a new series set in the world of elite high schoolers, then this may be the perfect series for you. Each book has its own romance and revolves around different tropes. This is a bully romance and the next on is an enemies-to-lovers! I’m excited to read it. ...more
