Ngl.... I lowkey forgot what I wanted to write about in this review so.. sorry if it's unorganized...
This book took me out of a mini-slump. I had just read a bad book and DNFed another so I was really hoping this romance book was what I needed. And I was right! This book was super cute and light on the smut (as I don't care for it much in romance books). We got to see each characters grow in their careers while getting to know each other and I found myself really enjoying the world of F1 racing. I don't think I've ever read the brother's rival troupe so this was pretty interesting and made for some fun drama. Lowkey Maya was messy for going after someone her brother hated LMAO.
Maya and Noah were very cute. I enjoyed the banter between the two and I honestly loved how honestly they were. It's refreshing. Noah stated that he only wanted something sexual in the beginning of their "romance" and I feel like many MMCs don't tend to communicate that until its too late so seeing Noah be honest about that and how he doesn't want anything more was a bit respectable. Because contrary to popular belief I think anybody can purse only sexual relationships if they want to as long as the partner consents to only wanting sex as well. As for Maya, I both give her props and the side eye. After hearing Noah's proposition to s "sex-only" relationship she stood her ground and stood true to her beliefs in saying she only wanted sex with a personal connection. I feel like authors try to hard and when a FMC wants the MMC to like them they do the "I can change him" approach by hoping the sex can stir feelings. But with Ms. Asher, she instead say "nah fam fuck that shit my FMC stands up to her beliefs." This made me respect Maya a ton.
(view spoiler)[ AND WHEN NOAH WENT TO ACTUAL FUCKING THERAPY?!?!?!?! I fucking folded right there because I've never read anything more sexy than a man wanting to change for himself and for a woman who he can see as a potential life partner. Seeing Noah work through his struggles almost made me cry because unfortunately men irl rarely care to fix their trauma.... same can be said for some women but either way I was so happy for Noah when he got help. Overall the romance was cute however I will say I felt like it did drag a bit after the main climax of the story passed but after reading that epilogue I melted a little at the couples sweetness :)

Fuckkkkkk, this book was annoying. The beginning had such a set up and so much action, so my expectations were so high after the first few chapters only for them to end up in the gutter at the 50% mark. The way the FMC became the most insufferable person on the planet like if I was the Queen I'd say fuck it and ship her ass back to Earth. This woman, whose name I'm not even going to try and remember because she was just that irritating, compared all of her relationships to the one she was having with Luka. And don't get me wrong, some boundaries she was listing were actually understandable but there were others that we SOLEY based off of her negative experiences with past boyfriends.. "Oh I don't want to be a doormat anymore" girl... if you don't stfu I'll turn you into one GAH DAMN. She was so insufferable and Luka deserves better... even if he is a discount version of Theo...
Their relationship seemed pretty nice in the beginning but then honestly felt forced as the FMC began this push and pull type of behavior.. like girl had insecurities she didn't want to work through and then punished Luka for those insecurities. LIKE WOMAN HE LITERALLY SAID IT'S PAINFUL TO BE WITHOUT YOU AND YOU KEEP PUSHING HIM AWAY? HOW ARE YOU ANY DIFFERENT FROM HIS KIDNAPPERS? EXPLAIN?!?!?!?
And despite Luka being a discount version of Theo I actually liked him a lot more than Theo. He was a lot nicer to his fated mate (even those that ugly ahh woman didn't deserve it) and was constantly trying to come to an understanding with her despite not knowing human customs. He was the only saving grace in this book but by the third act... alas he couldn't keep me engaged enough...
By the time they were getting along and the miscommunication was cleared I was already pissed off and bored af so I didn't continue... will I continue the series? Probably.. I heard this was the worst book in the series and I found the first one to be pretty good so I'll continue after getting this.... annoying ahh FMC out of my system....more

Good palette cleanser book that reminds me of ice planet barbarians with a little bit more plot. -----------
As I stated before this is a good sci-fi romance palette cleanser that reminds me of ice planet barbarians but with a little bit more plot. Idk if there was like a plagiarism scandal going on but the two books are very similar when it comes to the major plot points.
1. New planet has too many males, not enough women and are going extinct 2. Both FMCs were kidnapped by "green alien" and sent to the planet 3. There are mates
Everything else is pretty much different but it's a strange thing to read about twice imo.
But moving onto the characters... eh... they were fine. I like how the MMC was a bit different when it came to liking "cute" things but he was a copy and paste version of every "bad boy" with scars and a past so I couldn't care much about his character.
Same with the FMC. She didn't really have any unique traits that stood out to me but she was a very open minded person which was nice to read about. TBH the planet she landed on seems very judgmental but I honestly would be too LMAO. Bad boys are not my thing.
Honestly, the world-building of the alien world was the best part of the book as I loved seeing the human FMC play with her surroundings and discover new things about the environment. Seeing the author describe their society and how woman-led it was, was so refreshing. I need more!
Overall this book is a good break from heavy fantasy or sci fi and I like it enough to continue the series...more

I enjoyed this more than I expected. It was more mystery/thriller than romance, but that didn't affect my enjoyment of it. The horror house troupe... or ig Hacienda in this instant really worked for the time setting of the book. I love how the author connected the environment to the war for independence, the caste system, and how colorist people were even when they were mestizo. The Spanish colonialism was still very much present during that time, and I loved how the author mixed it into the horror elements of the story.
Beatriz was a girlboss tbh. Girl realized just how cruel life can be, especially for women, and decided what she wanted for her life. Even when she changed her mind in the end, she knew that in order to get freedom, she needed her own land or a man with money to make sure she and her mom were taken care of... I wonder how life would've been like if her husband wasn't such a asshole and she was able to run the Hacienda and live in peace with her mom.... she was so strong throughout the entire story and she really has some personal growth with herself as she goes from someone who wants to be a picture perfect Hacienda wife to someone who embraces the melanin within her skin and realizes just how important her family is to her.
Andres was also a great character. I loved how he has magic from his ancestors, which was passed down by his grandmother, and how she explained that this magic was something to turn into something he possessed. When he turned into a Catholic preist, I thought it was something very smart considering the Spanish inquisition was something that was very scary for those who were non catholic... I wonder if his abuela did that on purpose to keep him safe... either way, I loved the battle he had between his desires and his faith. He was a sad character but ughhh his personality and backstory were so good!

I knew what to expect when reading this book and I almost wish it was longer. This is honestly a perfect palette cleanser after a heavy fantasy as it gave me the romantic tension, some girl boss moments, and surprisingly was very light with the smut.
The only issues I really had with this book is that it used the "single dad/mom troupe as a scape goat for the MMC's shitty communication skills.... Like I couldn't give a flying flip about the little kid and I feel like in that troupe the kid should be integrated into a majority of the book... ESPECIALLY in a football romance... I wanna feel like I'm reading the book equivalent of The Game Plan movie. This book felt like the discount version of it.
Nevertheless, I enjoyed it and found the characters to be enjoyable enough since I got through it in a short amount of time. There's not much to say about this book tbh because I felt like the author meant to make this like a novella but then decided to add in more content but in turn it feels like this book is missing content.... just feels very surface level so ehhhh its enjoyable but I don't see myself ever reading it again as it didn't blow my mind.... I will continue this series tho as the other main characters seem pretty interesting by the books description....more

This was a wonderful conclusion to the trilogy. There was so much going on in terms of drama, action, and relationships that I couldn't look away. It was almost as if I was continuously looking at a car crash and it just kept getting crazier.
Now is this book good? I would say so but it's definitely not for the intellectuals. But is it entertaining? HELL FUCKING YES. I couldn't get enough of it.
Neil's relationship with the team has grown so much since the start of the book and I feel like a proud mother seeing her kids finally getting along... It was so heartwarming to read about and I was so happy for him, especially when him and Andrew finally got past their trauma and could reconsider their relationship into being something more than "nothing." Their enemies to lovers relationship was so good because of the slow burn and I loved how slow Nora made it because of how traumatized the two were. They became friends and learned how to trust each other and knew not to push each other. The way CONSENT was expressed through their relationship was probably the best thing I've ever read. I could cry thinking about it because i loved it so much.
And I know that this is a bit off topic but I wanted to talk about Neil's mother in at least one of my reviews... I honestly don't know how to feel about her. I felt like she could've done a better job at raising Neil and used her connections with the mafia family in the UK. But considering she was trying so hard to keep Neil away from it I can see why she never used it. She could've been a better mom but at the end of the day she was a scared, paranoid, and cornered woman so I feel empathy towards her. I lowkey wish we got more flashbacks so I could try and understand her character more but.... oh well...
Overall this series was one of the best non-fantasy series I've ever read and I don't think I'll ever see anything like this again. I'll be keeping this series close to my heart....more

This was better than the first one as it had a lot more plot and drama going on. I also loved how the author went more in depth into the characters backgrounds of the team as I felt like in the first book the main focus was Kevin, Andrew, and Neil... It was still the same case in this book but I was happy to learn more about Renee, Alison, Nicky, and Matt. ------------------- Honestly idk what else I can really add to this review. There was so much going on in this book and I could not put it down. It was like an addiction. This book wasn't perfect by any means as there were times where the content felt repetitive or redundant but Neil's ambition for the game and him learning how to make friends and actually consider them family was so fun to read.
Not to mention the way how every member dealt with trauma. It felt so raw at times and there were points in where I could connect with the characters feelings in depression and anger. Drugs, not so much as I didn't care for that but what I really loved was how much the team fought for each other. They were a group of discarded kids but they looked out for one another in their own fucked up way.
(view spoiler)[I was also super happy when Andrew was finally coming off his drugs. I don't know why doctors rely on it so much instead of trying other methods because there's absolutely no reason why a growing teen needs to be hooked up on so much prescribed medication to deal with his "episodes" when those were clearly a cry for help. Andrew's backstory was so heartbreaking and made his attitude understandable. The people who were supposed to protect him hurt him instead and soon nobody cared about him so his only solution was to stop caring.... His budding relationship with Neil and rekindling brotherhood with Nicky and Aaron give me high hopes that group will get a happy ending... maybe not 100% happy but definitely an ending that's better than where they were before. If Haikyuu was an actual book and had fucked up adults it would be this book. I saw this book floating around booktok and decided to give it a go as the audiobook came up on Libby. I'm glad I gave it a go as this book was more entertaining than I gave it credit for. The cover made it seem like this was going to be a boring sports book but no. It was a book that had found family, mafia drama, secrets, drugs, and mental illness. It also has LGBTQ elements but there wasn't really any romance in the first book as the main character, Neil was spending the entire book trying to trust his teammates (FOR A GOOD REASON.)
Neil was probably the mot interesting part of the book as his background is very dark and mysterious. Being the only son of a mafia lord and on the run meant he was always so secretive. Seeing how he delt with everyday life was highkey sad as he has fear ingrained in him and his ability to connect with people beaten out of him. In future books I wonder how the author will deal with his background as it seems like that's going to be the main conflict of the story. NOT TO MENTION HIS TEAMMATE ALSO HAS TIES TO THE YAKUZA LMAOOOO bro cant catch a break ONG.
Andrew was another interesting character. Dude is on some hardcore perscsribed drugs and even with those drugs he seems like a very destructive person. I don't know what to make of him as I don't see how he doesn't care to play Exy but then is protective over the team captain... I'm sure the author will do into depth about the relationship later but whatever.
As for the romance.... there's practically 0... Nil.... ZILCH.... nada.... Idk how I was able to read a book with 0 romance but I did with the promise of it's coming in future books.... Haikyuu trained me for this lololol... As for my predictions... I have none as I'm really not sure what Neil's sexuality is... He seemed straight at first (view spoiler)[ but considering his mom BEAT the feelings out of him.... I'm really not too sure... he also didn't react to Nicky's kiss so he could be asexual or... pan? I assume he'll end up with Andrew or Kevin as that's who the author is focusing on but we don't really get to see what Neil is thinking when it comes to his sexuality... (hide spoiler)]
Overall I enjoyed it and it had a lot of drama to keep me engaged so I may even start the second book soon....more

I was expecting it to be a bit darker since I've heard it was a dark romance but I'm not mad about it... Both characters were amazing and I really liked how Sloane and Rowan interacted with each other. The banter was something I never thought I needed till reading it and the audiobook was absolute topppp tierrrrr audiobook. This is a book where I would definitely recommend the audiobook over the physical one.
Going back to the characters, I like how their trauma didn't defy them. we see Sloane suffer from it a bit in the beginning as she seems to be overly dependent on her friend Lark, but I loved how much she grew during her friendship and eventual romance with Rowan. As for Rowan, it seems like he was already pretty well developed from the beginning, but there was once lapse on where he got super violent.... I kinda wish we got more of that throughout the story as I know overcoming abuse and trying to control emotions like anger is a challenge. But I loved him anyway, and I assume why he was more stable was because unlike Sloane, Rowan had the support of his brothers... also, he was like Dexter by putting those negative emotions into killing people ig lol.
I really enjoyed this book and I'm glad my friend recommended it to me.. I can't wait to start the sequel!!
Edit: After really sitting on it, imma lower my rating to 4.5 because idk what it is, but there was something that really nagged me when it came to this book... it was a bit draggy and times, and the more I sit on it, the more I let it fester so..... now...

I don't have much to say between the couple but I thought their dynamic was uh.... interesting... Harlow was pretty unique being a mechanic but it's sad we didn't get to see her strengths shine... Rukh was probably my favorite thing about this book. Not sure why but seeing how he grows from a immature lonely being to someone who has a family and being more emotionally mature.
Again, I don't have much to say about this book but it was still a fast read!
