Listen..... this book is too long and honestly dragging...
Also... I'm 23 years old... I left high school boys behind some years ago and have no desire to read about them now. I feel icky as an adult. I don't hate on anybody who likes this book because some banter really is super cute but I read YA books as a high schooler to get away from the grossness of high school boys and adult me has absolutely no fucking desire to go back to that.
High school boys give me the mother-fucking ICK.
I may come back to this but... idk... we'll see...more

Ughhh I thought this was a great book. I was a bit skeptical considering my favorite characters wouldn't be in this book but I was surprised. The new characters, minor or not, were introduced in a great way and I wasn't confused at all.
Yelena's childhood and backstory was also introduced in this book and it added so much to her character. Seeing her interaction with her family was so bittersweet as it took 14 years and when she finally met them she had gone through so much, but I loved how open she was to it. Her brother Leif tho? He a bitch... I wish she punched him AT LEAST ONCE. I empathized with his feelings of self-loathing, guilt, and hate but dude needs some therapy omg.... as the oldest sibling I'm embarrassed for him because I understand being jealous of siblings but I never hated them for it. Making us eldest siblings look bad euhhh ...more
Ughhhh, this was sooooo good! Idk if this would be classified as a romantasy or a fantasy romance, but it gives off romantasy vibes.

I've never read about Norse mythology, but now it's about to become my biggest obsession. Ughh everything was so good, and I think Jensen did a fantastic job foreshadowing Freya's backstory/origins!
And Freya's character? Girlboss! Well... kinda... in the beginning, she has her fate controlled by men, which essentially becomes the entire plot. Her possession of the goddess's blood is what starts a life changing prophecy, and all that... so when it starts off you can really see how the people in her life have forced her down and when she finally gets the chance to become a warrior it's due to the fact that another man wants her to fight his wars for him. In a way, this other prison gives her a taste of freedom, which leads her to finally being cognizant of her choices and how to become a leader, which I loved. Her character development and finally realizing what it means to love someone (not family love I mean love, love) was a great edition to the story.
Her connection to the goddess was also pretty intresting as it seems like being a vessel seems to be more of a curse to Freya than a blessing but I'm hoping as she learns more about the goddess and her powers that it can be used to her advantage.
Moving onto the fantasy elements, it was pretty much heavily based on Norse mythology so no talks of fae, zombies, or random magic which I loved. Jensen gave us a mythology magic system which gives off very much "i am a God and will do what I please whether it be kind or not." And you get this from the very beginning of the story as God's and goddesses are not your friends and use the characters to satisfy their own whims or for a vessel.
However, some parts were a bit predictable, but that's only because it seemed too good to be true, and it was lol. But that's a spoiler, so I won't get into that.
Also, I didn't like how Freya still seems to be playing into the whims of men... it seems like even towards the end of the book, she's still being controlled by their terms, but im sure the author will have her break away from that in the second book.
Now, onto other characters.... they were all bitches and I hate them. (They were great. I just hate their personalities, and they suck as people because Freya deserves better.)...more

The way the author made me feel butterflies, rainbows, and sunshine with the two characters (while Helene was irritable at times lol)! I love them. There's no other way to describe it other than love, which is what describes every aspect of this book. Of course, you get the inkling of fantasy, but that inkling made it so much more romantic. I wish I had time to write the review this book deserves, but I don't have the time right now, so I'm just babbling.
If you get anything from this book... it'll be that being actually being delulu in your romantic endeavors is the solulu.
And Evelyn's backstory to making this book... UGH ...more
