In a world hwere it is valued and sought to be seen the most important thing is to be hidden and unseen. That's where God finds you and completes your story.
“The craving to be seen is universal: we were made to be known. But there is only one who can know us. He is the one who created us to live with moments and hours that no one else can understand”

It looks at the emotional, spiritual, and physical health of one whom shepherds and cares for others.
It’s a call to keep on serving and loving and taking care of yourself regardless of our culture and modern demands. Schmidt gives examples from his own life of ministry and lessons he has learned of what to do before depletion.

Something that is so hard and not usually talked about - how to raise strong emotional boys. So many good tips and strategies to learn and teach males.
All of this author’s books are just very strong . Love listening to his podcast too.
I felt this book was a little bit disjointed. I’m still trying to find my favorite Advent book. It wasn’t a streamlined look at the advent. Ever3.5ish
I felt this book was a little bit disjointed. I’m still trying to find my favorite Advent book. It wasn’t a streamlined look at the advent. Every day was a different thought and no continuity till the last few days.
A lot of it dealt with sin and death and hardness which makes us look forward to His coming. I did appreciate the last three or four days and gleaned the most from those days. Thankful he is still writing my story. At the end of each day, there is a section that you can use with your kids.
“One of the most beautiful things about the Christmas story is that it doesn’t offer just my past forgiveness and future hope, but everything I need right here, right now.”
“Because the Christmas story is meant to help you interpret and understand your story, it’s important to slow down and take time to meditate upon this amazing story of mind blowing grace. “...more
Very thought provoking. A good perspective shift and way to look into the New Year.
I have heard different outtakes on this book. I see his heart for Very thought provoking. A good perspective shift and way to look into the New Year.
I have heard different outtakes on this book. I see his heart for missions and evangelism and applaud him. It’s a call to the Christian church to wake up. We have so much. Having grown up in a third world country I cannot agree with him more. I get why this book can be “uncomfortable” to read. Uncomfortable is good!
I see the “American Dream” and the allure it holds. It’s a constant battle in my own flesh to want more. I didn’t dissect this book theologically how others have. I took it for face value as what the Great Commission and Mathew 28 commands to do.
His key (radical) takeaways: 1. Pray for the whole world, and ask God to send people to the unreached corners of the world. 2. Read through the Bible in one year. 3. Serving others in a different cultural setting than yours. 5. Give sacrificially to the poor. And 5. provide community for those in need through your local church! Funny how this is deemed “radicall.” Let’s normalize this “radicall”....more

Probably not the best timing for me to be reading a book like this considering my brain is fried, but I really wanted to get to it before the end of the year. I have the physical copy which I will be revisiting. Thank you @TN for the gifted copy.
I appreciated how she explained all the different views and “colors” of different beliefs. The core beliefs are what is important that we know and make sure it’s based on Bible truths. It reminded me alot of Mama Bear Apologetics if you have read that one....more

I felt the author was vulnerable and authentic and so real in sharing her struggles of insecurities, anxiety, and feelings of inadequacies. All these things we struggle with every day. Loved the cultural aspect of her heritage as well- as she didn’t blame her upbringing but it played a part.
When our strivings cease we can fully dwell and love richly in God’s amazing grace. How wonderful to know we Donny have to do or be to attain this. He gives it Toni’s freely.
