I cannot for the life of me reconcile the fact this is the same author of To Kill A Mockingbird. This cannot be the same Scout and Atticus. Didn’t understand there political aspect at all. …. I do know some of the background of this book. I read a biography on her awhile back. It seems like the publishers “stole” this rough draft right from under her nose when she couldn’t make decisions.
I felt this book was a little bit disjointed. I’m still trying to find my favorite Advent book. It wasn’t a streamlined look at the advent. Ever3.5ish
I felt this book was a little bit disjointed. I’m still trying to find my favorite Advent book. It wasn’t a streamlined look at the advent. Every day was a different thought and no continuity till the last few days.
A lot of it dealt with sin and death and hardness which makes us look forward to His coming. I did appreciate the last three or four days and gleaned the most from those days. Thankful he is still writing my story. At the end of each day, there is a section that you can use with your kids.
“One of the most beautiful things about the Christmas story is that it doesn’t offer just my past forgiveness and future hope, but everything I need right here, right now.”
“Because the Christmas story is meant to help you interpret and understand your story, it’s important to slow down and take time to meditate upon this amazing story of mind blowing grace. “...more

The only thing- I needed a little bit more! A little bit more is the characters, a little bit more of their story, a little bit more of History.
Reay does an amazing job in her research! Can I just read her research?
And caveat I finished it three days before I go hear her!!

This book took me several months to finish- and that's ok. It was just what I needed to do to slow down and really apply what it was trying to teach me. It's a reality check into what really matters. Living a hurried, depressed, and burned out life is not how God intended us to live. Our bodies were created with limitations- and it's ok to recocognize this.
I love the the application part- the ways to combat stress and hurry. Appreciated the mature look at depression and how Chrsitians can and do suffer with it. And not only do we suffer with it, but it's ok to get help and medicine when needed....more

A short yet deep novella featuring the youngest Dinsmore. Each character and emotion is so thoroughly created, you come away feeling like you know them as a person and not just a fictional character.
Pleasantly surprised how there are tidbits of her other books and characters lurking around. Loved how the ending wraps up the story from the ending of her last book. It all comes around.
It all comes back to the focal truth of God’s unending love for us. What a gift of eternal joy.

This coming back home tale is set in dual time line setting in the lost city of Venice. Clean and wholesome this book is refreshing. It’s a story within a story.
I went back and forth between the audio and the paper version for this one. Really loved the characters and their individual qualities. It was great listening to it and hearing all the Italian names. I did get a bit lost with the back and forth and had to pay close attention.
