What that actually means in Book Dragon terms is that this series has my heart and the author has my attention.
Finding herself stuck in an elevator with an extremely attractive neighbor, Josie Scott does what anyone would do and has a conversation with him since they're forced in very close proximity. She very quickly realizes that she is stuck with Wyatt Boone, captain of the NHL team in Toronto.
I'll be honest and admit that I was a teensy concerned that these characters were going to be insta-lovey because when I say they have chemistry, I mean it. It was completely unfounded though as both of these characters were well developed and had very believable backgrounds that made the promised hesitation about a relationship pay off in an organic way that absolutely makes you root for these two. Every single Why Choose I have read this year has one male character I want to throttle (and I don’t mean the spicy way). For this round, it’s Aiden. That is fairly unimportant though.
What is important is how much I enjoyed this book. Once the action started, it didn't stop and very easily kept my attention. Raegan is an amazingly written FMC with a balance of power and trauma that makes her an easy foothold into a world where Gifted people exist. Other than Aiden (but really, probably him too) the MMCs are flawed in forgivable ways and show so much growth, making the romance work.
Check trigger warnings because here there be darkness. This is the first in the Raegan of Ruin series, and I, for one, have buckled in to enjoy this ride until the end. I will probably even forgive Aiden. Maybe.

I know how unhinged that sounds, but friends, I will ride at dawn for Avery. The MMCs are so well done. Even the one we start out hating is chef’s kiss. All of the relationships feel so natural which is a big thing. They make sense and the author does an amazing job of explaining how their pasts color their reactions.

Leera is so freaking adorable and just has characteristics that make not only the MMC want to protect her, but me as well. She reminds me of a young friend of mine.
Roman is grumpy perfection. When he's caught off guard by Leera, he does not react well, but he does everything in his power to make it up to her. It's a little insta-love, but there's an explanation as to why that I can accept.
If you like shifters and hockey romance, please don't miss out on this. This is an incredibly written 4 ...more

Um, new kink unlocked? Who knew the woods could be so hot because I sure didn’t! I shouldn’t be surprised considering how much I loved Book 1.
In this novella, we are introduced to Michaela Valdis Bronwen, a fiery girl with a deep need for revenge, and the daemon she summons to get that revenge, Morax. Taking place during the same time as Retaliation (Michaela’s sister Seraphina’s story), it’s interesting to see how those events impact what happens with this book’s main characters.
I would recommend reading Retaliation before A Daemon’s Alliance to get the full scope of the plot, but in a pinch, ADA ...more

The main characters have excellent chemistry and their scenes together, both of the spicy variety and the more mundane, are wonderful. I love that Helena is the morally gray one of the two.
My only real irk with the book is that at times, the description of Camden's ADHD and how his brain worked were a bit over the top. Having ADHD myself, it reminded me a bit of many conversations that I have had with neurotypical friends trying to justify why I am the way I am. This is by no means a negative thing. The author explained things clearly and well. For me, personally, it was a bit too at the forefront early on. I absolutely suggest you not let this be the reason you don't try this book. This will not be true for everyone.
I'm looking forward to the next book in this series.

Sandra, the oldest is releasing a new solo album. The Siels are still mourning the loss of one of their own in a tragic accident and are coping in various degrees of healthy strategy. Enter Michael, the younger, drunken brother, who is not only grieving the loss of his twin brother but also his career. He, too, was in the accident and lost an arm, making playing guitar nigh impossible. During the interview, he hurts himself, leaving Allison without her Sandra interview. As Michael and Allison get closer, the abusive patriarch Leonard, drops the news that he intends to profit from the family's grief by writing a memoir. Sickened by the idea, Michael offers Allison an interview with him, something that he hasn't done since before his injury. Fools, as it's said, fall in love.
Both Allison and Michael are flawed characters that I fell in love with 50 pages in. They have wonderful, flirty chemistry from the jump. The character growth from both is stunningly done without feeling like insta-love. Michael's struggles to figure out how to do the things that were lost to him on that night are in no way small and Allison is instrumental. Allison, who is the daughter of a singer who died of an OD, needs to learn to forgive herself and to stop being such a people pleasure which - surprise - is where Michael fits in.
The only reason this was not a perfect rating is the supporting characters. Compared to the labor of love that is the book's couple, they felt a little flat for me. It didn't affect my enjoyment of the narrative, but I just wanted a little more from them. The disability representation felt natural and, for lack of a better word, real.
If you like forced proximity, one bed, bad boy with a heart of gold, and friends to lovers, I can wholeheartedly recommend this book.

I fell into this book not knowing what to expect from a dystopian story that seemed heavy on religious subtext. What I found was an interesting world populated with characters you want to see succeed in every possible way.
Eva is the first ever female Bellator (think this world's police/military) and her assigned mentor, Ari, is someone she has known since childhood. Love is dangerous and will absolutely get someone killed. So what happens when feeling start to emerge along with deep secrets?
My only criticism is that the antagonist reads, at times, almost cartoonishly villainous. I can't say why because it's a spoiler, but his reaction to Ari's actions don't seem super balanced with how he has been depicted before that point. It's the heel turn to end all heel turns.
I can absolutely recommend this to others who want to dip their toe into the romantasy genre but is spice adverse. ...more
Now that I have stopped fangirling over the perfectness of this story,I think I am ready to review this. Books don't make me emotional, especially in Now that I have stopped fangirling over the perfectness of this story,I think I am ready to review this. Books don't make me emotional, especially in the romance drama since I am not-so secretly dead inside. This book though had tears streaming down my face more than once.
Following the unlikely couple of Isabella, a journalism student trying to make it to graduation, and Dave, the hot drummer for the band she is covering for an article, ADoD&D has a masterfully written grasp on moving on from past traumas to see the good in front of you. The characters jump off the page and find their way into your heart so quickly.
This book is a slow burn, mutual pining, friends to lovers story with just the right amount of spice. I wholeheartedly recommend this one.
