Okay, let's get a few things straight. If you read the books, you will enjoy this story. If you only watched thHarry Potter's children go to Hogwarts.
Okay, let's get a few things straight. If you read the books, you will enjoy this story. If you only watched the movies, you probably don't like reading (or at least books like this). If you have never read the books or seen the movies, why are you looking at this?
The next thing you should be aware of is that this is a play based on an original story written by J.K. Rowling and adapted by the playwrights. Plays don't read like a book but they don't flow like a movie (or play acted out). The story is still very good but doesn't necessarily feel like a Harry Potter story.
You will get to see a lot of characters that you loved in the series. But the main focus is on Harry's middle son and the son of Draco Malfoy. You don't get to see a lot of Hogwarts or Harry's other children. There is no Quidditch matches or classes.
There is time travel in this story and one of those annoying things that happens with time travel. People who are left in the "present" are worried about how the world will change if the mission fails. If the mission failed in the past, there would be no present (as they know it) for them to be worried. You would never see the "change" to the timestream.
To sum up, if you are a fan of Harry Potter, you will enjoy this story. But you need to be aware, it will not be the same as reading the books were....more
I will admit that as soon as I saw this title, I wanted it for my collection. It has such a great gimmick. Star WI won a copy on Goodreads Firstreads.
I will admit that as soon as I saw this title, I wanted it for my collection. It has such a great gimmick. Star Wars re-written as a Shakespearean play. What Star Wars fan wouldn't love it for there collection? It stays true to the original while be offbeat enough to stand out from a lot of other collectibles. There are several nods for both for the Star Wars fan (like how Han deals with the question if he shot first) and the Shakespeare fan(like Luke doing Hamlet's soliloquy about Yorick while holding a stormtrooper's helmet). While reading it , I tried to imagine how an actual play would look. This thing would be a beast to actually do as a production. There are tons of scene changes and locations, it would be hard to convey them all. The line drawings are wonderful. Jabba in Shakespearean garb made me laugh out loud.
To whom would I recommend this book? Definitely to anybody who is both a fan of Shakespeare and Star Wars of course. After that, I would probably say it will appeal more to the Star Wars fan than the Shakespeare fan. Of course I can see a lot of Star Wars fan will buy the book for their collections and not even read it. But it is worth the read. I would rate this a 3.5 if we could give half-stars....more
