This book was dark in different ways to book 1, but carried the major themes forward. It acknowledged the nigh impossible task that Dr Wright had in front of her in rebuilding while giving us new characters to root for. Lucy was quirky in a spooky obsessed with dead things way, so it wasn’t surprising she found herself working with Victor, who was basically Frankenstein’s monster crossed with a zombie. He was broody, severely traumatized, and very reluctant to trust Lucy in any way shape or form. They ended up being a good couple cuz why wouldn’t a taxidermist/former medical student be a good partner for him. I would have loved a little more getting to know each other on page, but they still worked. Looking forward to the next book!

Jo was compassionate, often to the point of too-stupid-to-live after she met Steve and Fred. She was understandably terrified when they knocked her out but agreed to take her home to care for her cat. Steve was a sweetie pie and had a lot of self hatred going on, which Jo helped him with. Fred was grouchy AF and tended to have as much difficulty with the Earth culture as Jo had with his terrifying alien culture. I loved that they found a dynamic that worked for them, even if it was unconventional and often difficult. I thought the difficulty they all had was more realistic that most romances like this I’ve seen. Steve’s telepathy added a layer of difficulty but also helped break the tension. It was a silly read and palette cleanser and I enjoyed it!

I’ve enjoyed most of the Talin books. It’s an interesting world and culture. However, some of the plots are feeling repetitive. Kasi was an interesting MC, tall and anxious with a love of plants. Ignatius was protective, anxious, and passionate about human welfare. It was nice to see some body positivity going on, although I didn’t really understand why the aliens from Kasi’s home colony would tease her for her size when humans are supposed to be among the smallest species.

It was the most low-key abduction I’ve ever read, with a big focus on consent and the MMC being willing to do just about anything to help the FMC be happy. I like the premise of humans being the opposite of fertile to the wider universe. I also appreciated the casual body positivity and that the female aliens weren’t disparaged as a way to make her seem more special.

I’m a fan of possessive monsters (shocking I know) so I was looking forward to this book. Mateo was deeply insecure, rebellious, and a bit impulsive. Eva was snarky, compassionate, and also a bit impulsive, so I guess they worked together. They had good sexual chemistry, but I feel like they didn’t have as deep of a relationship by the end of the book as I would have preferred. Sure, there were love declarations, and they knew one another’s deepest darkest secrets, but they didn’t know the small things that make a relationship truly meaningful.

I always stan a good ole fashioned abduction romance and I’ve been so excited about Skalla’s story. Skalla was insane, unstable, and all hard edges. Suvi was all softness, compassion, and patience, so they were well matched. I quite liked the whole plot line of him trying to figure out why he needed her and Suvi being confused AF. Jolakaia was a great side character and I ship her and her wife. Seriously, how adorable were they? The only thing that kept this review from being a solid 5 stars was what felt like a rapid shift in Suvi’s attitude towards Skalla. Overall, awesome book. Looking forward to the next one!

Liam was a softie that loved learning about Rownt culture and quite liked Ondry as a person to trade with. Ondry was protective of, and patient with, Liam. It was interesting to have an ace alien, one who got no pleasure from sex, but still derived satisfaction and fulfillment from a D/s dynamic. The culture was unique and interesting and I enjoyed the blunders that Liam made despite so hard to follow the norms.

I feel like I still didn’t know who Ulfric was at the end of the book. He was just a somewhat grumpy dude. Aspen had a personality and relatively fleshed out background.

Listen, I was 100% in it and shipping this quartet at the beginning. The cam girl thing was awesome and the kidnapping itself was good. Things kinda went downhill for me shortly after the kidnapping because the characters were inconsistent in their actions. Not all of their actions, but enough to knock the rating down. I liked Natalii’s backstory and the PTSD stuff. I wish there would have been more on page working through those issues. Overall, cozier than I expected but still had plenty of dark.

I’m all about a good Krampus punishment story, and I was a bit excited about the kidnapping thing. But everything was so rushed in this novella. Getting turned on at an inappropriate time? Makes sense. Having a “punishment” that is the lightest form of edging and spanking? A bit underwhelming . I have hopes for this author in the future though. They have a good structure to their story, just need some tubing.
