Cam was every woman's dream - gorgeous, strong, commanding, calm in crisis - his only flaw was that he was extremely possessive. Oh well, no one's perfect.
Amelia is strong, independent and she tries to take on everything herself. But her brother, Leo, is wearing her down. He is literally haunted by his diseased fiancee's spirit. And it's destroying him and the family.
Merripen, a child found by Amelia's father and brought up as part of the family, is normally her rock but he is severely injured in a fire caused by Leo's carelessness.
And Cam steps in and wins Amelia's heart.
I have read this book multiple times.
I would have given it 5 stars but I thought there were too many sex scenes and I just wanted to get on with the story....more
I loved this book. It had everything: great H/h, suspense, intrigue, steam - the hero is soooo hot, and a touch of the afterlife.
I dropped my 5 star I loved this book. It had everything: great H/h, suspense, intrigue, steam - the hero is soooo hot, and a touch of the afterlife.
I dropped my 5 star rating by 1/2 a star because it would have been a better read if I'd known this was the third book in a trilogy and read the first two first. Under the title it should say - Lost hearts #3.
Also, Kate does something in anger that is extremely stupid and dangerous, that puts her safety at risk, makes it impossible for Teague to protect her, and causes Teague unnecessary stress....more

I found Thea's brother, Daniel, absolutely horrid. At one point the baby is kidnapped. Does she go upstairs to get her brother? No. She walks through the snow, in the dark, to get Gabriel (H). It was a bizarre thing to do. So even his sister thinks Daniel is a waste of space. Plus Daniel keeps saying Thea should dump the baby in a foundling home and has nothing to do with it. He's a vicar. You'd think he'd have more compassion.
I liked the relationship growing between Thea and Gabriel, although the risk of pregnancy was ignored. Thea's insistance that she was plain and Gabriel was only using her for sex got old. And Gabriel waited way too long to propose.
I liked Rawdon.
I did not feel the villians were properly punished....more

This was a good book but I found Hallie frustrating because she would not tell Chance, who she meets on the run, what is happening in her life, even after they become involved. Why? This is a recurring theme and I lost respect for Hallie as her decisions made less and less sense.
Her twins were adorable. Chance was an awesome hero.
I didn't particularly like the ending with the indecision and separation....more

Both H and h were awesome. It was a great story in which the hero, Alex, is wrongfully accused of murder, and Cay is sent to help with his escape. Frankly, the fact that Cay was sent, dressed in her ballgown and unprepared for anything, was ridiculous but it ended up making for a good story....more

He normally reads non-fiction but his friend was raving about James Patterson's books. I've read a few before. My dad loved them.
I finished it in two days (I needed to garden) and was on the edge of my seat for the most part. I liked the short chapters. I did not like how it was written in the present tense and how the parts with the detective were written in the first person. It didn't flow for me. I wonder if one co-author wrote in the first person and the other didn't.
There were parts that didn't make sense to me. Don't read further if you don't want to read spoilers.
********************SPOILERS*********************
Hoyt's obsession with ensuring the First Lady was dead, whether by her own hand or his, was over the top.
Sally Grissam leaves her daughter alone in their apartment in a bad area with a hitman on the loose. She gets mad when her estranged, philandering husband shows up after daughter Amelia calls him saying she's scared. What? I don't care how angry you are with your soon to be ex-husband. You don't leave your daughter alone!
When the White House gets a ransom note demanding $100 million for the First Lady's return, they pay it. I thought you don't negotiate with terrorists. It also demands the President apologize to the First Lady for cheating on her. That they won't agree to. So they'll pay millions of dollars for her release but won't give an apology? That makes no sense. Neither does the kidnapper's demand for an apology.
At the end Special Agent Grissam is calling for Scotty to pick her up. He doesn't respond, putting her and the First Lady in danger. And she never questions why he didn't respond?
Special Agent Grissam is shot in the back but her scarf and coat prevent the bullet from penetrating her body? I don't think so.
Our assassin escapes her hospital bed but we don't know how. The police guarding her did not consider her a serious threat for some reason but they were at the door constantly. Then she kills Hoyt? Why? And how does she manage to raise her arm and give him a shot in the neck with tons of reporters all around? Are they blind? And she lives to kill another day. Wow!
And why did Ben have to die? It didn't add to the story at all.
I did not like that few of the characters got their comeuppance.
The First Lady's father tried to kill the President's mistress by having her cab rammed on the highway. No consequences.
The President allows Hoyt to just walk out of his office after he finds out Hoyt was trying to kill his albeit estranged wife. No consequences.
Grissam allows Scotty to take over her position knowing he conspired with Hoyt trying to kill the First Lady. No consequences.
And the First Lady steals $100 million. She's going to use it for good, but still. No one is going to notice it's missing. No consequences.
Things are far fetched but not as far fetched as what's going on with Trump. No one could make that stuff up.

The sentence syntax was made to mimic another time but it was just annoying. Our H/h were incredibly stupid people, misreading each other, putting themselves in danger (Kira), their actions towards each other at times making absolutely no sense. I really wish they would put on the cover that it's part of a series and what number.
For example, as a stand alone Tara's presence makes no sense. She's our heroine's deceased husband's first wife and she's malicious. Why is she even allowed to be part of the family?
Jessy's (the heroine) two children are just shy of four but talk as if they are older. Her son scoffs at a gift of a pony saying he wants a horse. I just can't see it, nor can I see the mother allowing it. Speaking of which, Jessy's kids seem to be all over the place with no supervision. They're on a ranch. I would think there would be dangers around.
Laredo saves Jessy's FIL's life after he's shot. Chase has no idea who shot him and, to complicate matters, he has amnesia.
I found the ending very unsatisfactory. We never find out the details of why Laredo is on the run. Jessy and Laredo's relationship hangs in the air due to Laredo's past. Two people die - I hate when good people die. We have no idea what Monte had in mind as he spent more and more time with Jesse. There were just too many holes left....more
Although I enjoyed this book I found the story convoluted. There were characters from previous books. There were flashbacks to characters in the past Although I enjoyed this book I found the story convoluted. There were characters from previous books. There were flashbacks to characters in the past and ghosts from the past still "living" at Draycott Abbey. There's a missing sword from clan Cameron that holds the key to some of the history of Mary Queen of Scotts. Numerous people want to get their hands on the sword so there's murder, intrigue and deception.
Joanna is an antique weapons expert specializing in restoring swords and rapiers. Alex makes swords. Both are extremely skilled.
They met 5 years ago but because her hair is a different colour and she's not wearing glasses, Alex doesn't recognize her. (Is this a Superman knock-off?) The chemistry between them sizzles.
Both have disturbing pasts but the book barely goes into them. Joanna, in particular, is very wary of relationships. I think it would have made her a more empathetic character if we knew more about her first marriage. She comes off as very foolish when she's in trouble and won't trust Alex.
She has a son from her first disastrous marriage who, for some reason, she keeps secret. He doesn't even live with her. He lives with her parents. I didn't really understand why.
There's way too much going on to summerize the story but it was fast-paced and a good read....more

* the "secrets" went on way too long and became exasperating * Pierce was an ass at some points in the book, especially when he wanted Camilla to be his mistress * Camilla was also irresponsible at times in regards to Pierce and pregnancy * I felt very badly for Camilla's son who had to be secreted away so often in the nursery and unable to go anywhere besides the dower house for fear of being discovered * I did not like Camilla's birth story and found that ending did not add anything to the story as it was so brief and simplistic * there was absolutely no excusing Pierce's mother's actions, none

I knew I wouldn't like it from the first few pages because of the tone of the writing, but decided to continue reading it to learn Jewish history. The Jewish history took a back-burner in the story.
Hannah is a Jew posing as a convert running from the Spanish Inquisition with her father, a bookseller and printer. She has "the sight" but aside from landing her in court at age 14 as the young, sick king's fool, it does little to add to the story.
I didn't like Hannah. She made terrible decisions and had loyalties to everyone and therefore no one.
She admired Princess Elizabeth who was backstabbing her sister Queen Mary, who Hannah professed to love. Meanwhile Queen Mary was torturing and burning anyone who didn't believe in her version of God, including Jews. How could someone who is Jewish and at risk of being persecuted love the person doing the persecuting? And, to top it off, Mary sends Hannah to be interrogated which almost led to torture and burning but STILL Hannah supports her. It was frankly sickening.
Queen Mary's decision to have a 14 yr old girl as her confidant defied belief.
With the exception of Will the fool, all the characters in the book were unlikeable. Reading this book gave me no pleasure. I learned some of the horror of the times but the story left me cold.
Well, I gave this book 3 stars because the beginning was enjoyable. But the plot becomes so ridiculous that I am tempted to lower my rating to a two. Well, I gave this book 3 stars because the beginning was enjoyable. But the plot becomes so ridiculous that I am tempted to lower my rating to a two.
Annalee meets Hunter as he's escaping from hired killers trying to kill him. He jumps on her train and right into her. As the two attempt to escape the three killers, sparks fly, and not just from the train wheels. The killers were sent by the owner of the ranch adjacent to Hunter's who is trying to acquire Hunter's spread.
For some reason Annalee assumes the killers are lawmen and Hunter is an outlaw. Nevertheless, she chooses to aid him.
The two meet again at a dance. This is where the plot goes downhill. I know it's supposed to be a farce but it's so ludicrous that it defies belief. Annalee is pretending to be a French flirt so her cousin can test her fiancee's resolve. Annalee's wearing an outlandish outfit. Naturally, Hunter is there. From her clothes and behaviour, Hunter assumes Annalee is a lose woman and kidnaps her to save her from her "protector." He wants to become her protector. In his defence, he did initially want her as his wife but was scared to pursue her because everyone around him keeps dying.
In the end, after everything seems to be working out, Hunter has a meltdown and the two separate for awhile. I absolutely hate when that happens.
I really enjoyed the relationship between Hunter's mother and the Englishman who pursues him. He was awesome....more

It was almost two separate books. I found it quite confusing once the cultist plot came into play because the book was part of a series and I didn't realize that. It should be read in order. The cover should have "The Black Cobra Quartet" and the number #1,2,3, or 4.
In the first part of the book, Logan is discovered shipwrecked, injured and with no memory of who he is. Linnet nurses him back to health. She decides he is a spectacularly made male...perfect for teaching her about sex. She is not a virgin but never had a good sexual experience. So we get half a book of sex, sex and more sex.
Linnet doesn't want to marry because she is worried a man will dominate her and she has LOTS of responsibilities. Logan decides Linnet is the woman for him and does everything he can to change her mind.
Then the book totally changes direction. Logan remembers that he is on a mission to subvert the Black Cobra and his cult of violent followers.
