Downfall storylines are among my favorites, and this one is incredible. Adelina's descent into darkness is done so intricately, creating a mix of heartbreak and terror for readers. I fear what she will do next, yet I adore her completely.
I love so many other characters too— they are all so well developed! Enzo, Raffaele, Magiano, and Maeve are some of my favorites. I adore both members of the Daggers and the Rose Society, so much so that I'm not sure who I want to win!
I cannot wait to read the last book but at the same time, I am terrified. ...more

I'm honestly surprised that this is a debut. The There must be a point where you’re allowed to be defined by something other than what he did to you.
I'm honestly surprised that this is a debut. The author is so talented, possessing the ability to both grip and horrify me.
This book is not easy. Even now, having read it, it's hard to dwell on its contents. It's the sort of book that I want to shelf as 'horror' even though those types of books typically belong to the supernatural— This is real, which makes it all the more haunting. ...more

We found it romantic, being the tragic heroines of our own stories. But the cost to being a tragic hero was always going to be the ending. Romeo and Juliet with their poison and knife, Gatsby by his pool, Bonnie and Clyde in a shoot-out.
This novel is an absolutely breathtaking look into toxic relationships and how they affect people. I know that this does not fall under the genre of horror, but I think this novel terrified me more than any other. Everything is so well done- the writing, the characters, all of it.
What makes this reading experience so scary is that you can almost see why Remy loves Elise, at least in the beginning. Elise does not pull only Remy into her orbit, but the reader as well. I had to stop a couple of times and remind myself that the relationship Remy and Elise have is not normal, nor healthy. It isn't glaringly obvious at first, and that is what's so terrifying. It can really happen to anyone.
I truly cannot wait to see what else this author puts out. ...more
