RAISE RAVENS...
First of all, two things...
...one, I classified this poem as a "short story" since I haven't read so much poetry as to justify a tag for that in my personal list to describe books...
...two, I rated 4 stars, since kinda the same reason, due I haven't developed a knack for poetry, but since I was curious about this poem by Edgar Allan Poe, still I read it, and certainly I liked it quite a bit, but it's some hard to enjoy for me poetry. Nobody's fault.
This is easily one of the most famous poems of all time and one of the masterpieces in the middle of Poe's works.
And this edition has the plus of having the gorgeous illustrations by Gustave Doré (that I already knew about him thanks to "Pawn Stars" where another book illustrated by him was taken there).
Funny thing is that most people think that a talking raven is a paranormal element, in an episode of "Doctor Who" (Capaldi's era) was shown ravens talking too as something unusual, but I watched a TV show in "Nat Geo Wild" where they informed that ravens indeed learn to "talk", much like parrots, repeating words that they heard. Ravens even do a "funeral" ceremony for those dead ravens that they find, reuniting for a moment around the fallen comrade. Amazing animals, the ravens are.
In this captivating poem, a male character is mourning the loss of his lover, Lenore, and in the middle of his sorrow, a raven gets into the room, and while the bird only says "Nevermore", the male character manages to think that this raven is answering all his questions, not matter how diverse are.

RETURN TO EUROPE
Oh, Newt. You never met a monster you couldn't love.
The previous adventure takes the audience to America, to boldly go where no wizard or muggle had gone before, but in this second story, the action takes us back to the old continent, Europe, to visit England first and later remains on France for the rest of the narrative.
Reading the book, after watching the movie was a rewarding experience since it solved three small doubts that left me the film (for not going into the big doubts!), but at least the book can explain who was the Chupacabra that exists on Funko Pop, and I didn't notice on the movie, but more precisely, I did notice it, but I didn't know that that creature was the Chupacabra, it was the magical animal with Grindelwald at the beginning; later, I understood why Newt and Grimsson were so uneasy with each other, since Grimmson is a hunter of magical creatures (most likely a furtive one); and finally, it wasn't clear if Non-Magical Parisians were watching the large display of Grindelwald to tell about his reunion, and the book indicated that it was invisible to normal humans (I guessed that it was so, but nothing in the movie was telling me about it).
Mr. Scamander. Do you think Dumbledore will mourn for you?
Certainly, there are some (big) incongruencies to previous historical facts in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, and I am not forgiving them, but I guess that like in Star Wars, now this pop culture franchise, got into the area of contradict itself from a movie to another.
There are characters that they played major roles in the first adventure, while here it looked like J.K. Rowling didn't know what to do with them, now that the saga is taking its long-game path, but I trust that in the following movies (five in total will be), each character will prove his/her worth to the enrichment and impact of the prequel saga. Because, after all, I consider that some characters took paths in this second story that some character in the previous saga never took, since maybe J.K. Rowling got too attached to them, and maybe in this prequel she is taking harsher choices, but indeed brave ones that they will make the whole saga, more interesting and unpredictable.
And after all, always is a delightful experience to enjoy a new journey by J.K. Rowling through the Wizarding World of Harry Potter.

PEST FROM THE PAST
Our favorite criminally insane psychologist is back with the Clown Prince of Crime, but they haven't such goodie-good comeback due the emergence of a new female thief in Gotham City, who has manage to be one step ahead of their heists...
...but good ol' Harley didn't know that this new player, "The Grison", didn't mess by chance the plans of The Joker...
...since The Grison has a past with Dr. Harleen Quinzel, from her days when she was still in Gotham University.
The Grison has combined her DNA with the said animal, adding its features and defense mechanism to her repertoire to make mischief, and a very cool thing is that she met certain characters, from Batman: The Animated Series and Batman Beyond to be make this possible, that it's no wonder if you take in account that the tale is written by Paul Dini, one of the co-creators of such animated TV series.
But, Harley Quinn isn't troubled just with The Grison! Our lovely wacko harlequin has a huge debt with the Wonderland Gang, and so few time to pay them or she will have to pay with her life!
And of course, certain Dark Knight is close behind Joker's gang!
Life in Gotham never is boring with Harley Quinn living there!

GONE TOO SOON
...A ship would bring you work, a gun would help you keep it. A captain's goal was simple: find a crew, find a job, keep flying.
Firefly is one of those TV jewels that they were gone too soon. With just one season, it was unfair that the TV series didn't have a chance to fully stretch its legs...
...so when the eventual movie was out, the fans got thrilled...
...however some of the characters weren't where the fans remembered.
This miniseries show you how and why, those characters came to be in the places that you found them in the movie...
...in the middle of a failed bank heist...
...and an old enemy looking for bloody revenge!!!
You get the characters faithfully portraited, and definitely showing why Malcolm Reynolds is one of the most impressive sci-fi characters, since he's not a bad guy, BUT...
...a saint or a fool ain't he, neither.
This is a fine Firefly tale, leading to the Serenity film, and while it has the limitations of having only three comic book issues to develop it, I think that it was quite adequate told to learn what you wanted to know about the changes met at the beginning of the closure movie.

TOUGH-BROOKLYN-COOKIE
Knock-knock, puddin’
Mad Love is my favorite episode in Batman: The Animated Series, which is no wonder since Harley Quinn is my favorite character there, and that’s her origin story.
Harley Quinn was created in that animated TV series, and she become so popular that she was introduced to the official DC Universe, not only in the pages of Batman and Detective Comics but also getting several ongoing comic book titles, multiple mini-series, one-shots, becoming regular character in Suicide Squad title.
In comedy, timing was everything.
Harley Quinn had arrived to stay, but back then, still a support character in BTAS, it was clear that it wasn’t planned to develop her beyond of being a colorful henchwoman for The Joker, but as I mentioned it, she become so popular that finally she got her own origin story.
And now, in this superb prose novel, you will read the ultimate Harley Quinn origin story, featuring all the original Mad Love story, BUT quite extended, showing Dr. Harleen Quinzel since she was a little kid in Brooklyn, NY, some of her high school experiences, along with more in detail her college years in Gotham University, and...
...of course...
...her fateful time as a psychiatrist in Arkham Asylum, along with her vicious relationship with the infamous Joker, and even later once solo again, struggling with her own gained reputation, but also dealing with old grudges.
…Gotham City had to be a psychiatric gold mine.
And the coolest part, is that Paul Dini (co-creator of Harley Quinn) with the collaboration of Pat Cadigan (who I knew her work thanks to a Lost in Space prose novel), they embraced the task of developing the ultimate origin story for your favorite criminally insane psychiatrist, obviously using the already presented material on the original Mad Love but also employing some material about her past, developed in comic books, along with extending the original scenes, even adding totally new ones.
Arkham didn’t have drills, only emergencies.
You’ll understand Harley Quinn as never before, being witness of her childhood where for better and worse, her parents were fateful influences for the woman that she’ll become in her adulthood, the logical reasons that lead her to the decisions in her college years, her ambitious steps once working in Arkham Asylum, and her dangerous crossroads between the Clown Prince of Crime and the Dark Knight…
…and her brave quest, to find her own place in life…
…and making people laugh!
A MUST-HAVE novel for any fan of Harley Quinn!...more

STRINGS & SILENCE
In this sixth issue, you’ll learn finally the origin of Marionette and Mime! And you won’t be disappointed!
Definitely, Geoff Johns is still demonstrating that he’ll do his homework to develop a smart sequel to Watchmen up to the expectations (and I am a huge fan of Alan Moore, so my expectations were high, and I have been loving this miniseries so far!).
While you read the origin of your favorite murdering clowns from the Watchmen dimension…
…the story continues in the main Earth, where The Joker is in a really good mood…
…and how he wouldn’t be?
If he got Batman, and now the Dark Knight is beaten, tied, drugged!
Meanwhile, several villains have been summoned by none other than The Riddler to decide what they should do in the middle of the “Supermen Theory” world crisis.
Marionette is excited seeing so much villains, and why she shouldn’t? If you take in account that in the Watchmen dimension lacks of a fair availability of super-villains in comparison to the existent heroes over there.
An unvited guest to the villains’ reunion will prove that they should thank their luck that the super-heroes of main Earth are too soft while dealing with them, but if someone appears showing drastic measures…

SPEAK NOW OR...
I wasn't reading the events leading to the bat-wedding but I couldn't resist to buy the 50th issue.
I thought that while it was advertised as "The Wedding of Batman & Catwoman", I supposed that it was actually the wedding of Bruce Wayne and Selina Kyle, but nope...
...it seems that it was indeed Batman and Catwoman, their alter-egos whom to be married!
Geez!
What? Bruce would ruin the good name of Wayne if getting married with a cat-burglar, well, okay, it could be odd indeed, but still, if she promised of not doing anything bad anymore, well why not?!
During the issue, you can read the wedding vows of both, Bruce and Selina, along with a pin-up gallery of talents celebrating the union of them.
A hug between Alfred and Bruce, when the latter ask the first to be his best man, it's the best in the entire issue. Emotive beyond words.
However, it's not rare that millions of readers hated this issue, due how the manage the "climax" of the wedding...
...since nothing like fooling the readers that they were buying A LOT of previous issues, tie-in issues, and etc...
...for getting that.
So much money investment, for so few rewarding.

SMILES BEFORE WEDDING BELLS
Batman will be married to Catwoman, and you can guess that several villains are against this union, and none is more against this than...
...The Joker.
And since all the Bat-Family is busy, each dealing with a different villain, well, who better to face the Clown Prince of Crime than...
...Harley Quinn.
So, our favorite psychotic psychiatrist goes bum-bum full steam against his old boss/lover.
Harley sets multiple traps, kicks, punches and bats (no, the night winged beasts, but those used in baseball!), to stop The Joker of doing an undesirable apprearance in the bat-matrimoy.
However, the Joker always has a, well, a joker's card (du'h!) on his sleeve!

This is the fourth novel in the "Cormoran Strike" book series.
POLITICS & FAMILY DON'T MIX
Cormoran Strike has become a famous detective in London, thanks to his success of catching the fearsome "Shacklewell Ripper"; and after re-hiring Robin Ellacott as her main partner, now he has even had to sub-contract other people to be able to cope with all the cases that have come to his office.
But despite that apparent bonanza of work, nothing has prepared Cormoran Strike for his most bizarre case to date, starting with whom takes the case to him, it is certainly his strangest (and unreliable) "client" to date...
...and in this detective book series is saying a lot.
When Billy Knight, a troubled and paranoid young man, comes to Cormoran’s office to ask for his help investigating a murder he believes he witnessed as a child...
...however his testimony is hard to follow, and even worse when Billy escapes from Cormoran's office.
Cormoran finds out that Billy is part of the Chiswell family, powerful in the fields of money and political influence, so he suspects that something must be behind of the erratic comments of Billy about a murder.
Robin Ellacot is still emotionally dealing with her shock, in the previous novel, for not saying that her newly marriage is a quite shaky house of cards; but she must assume her new detective mission of going undercover in the viper's nest-like Chiswell manor.
Fresh blackmails about crimes that weren't illegal when done, in the middle of seeking political power, will turn upside down the Chiswell family...

THINK ABOUT THE FUTURE!!!
Joker might have been responsible for terrorizing Gotham, but you weren’t necessarily making it better.
Batman: White Knight isn’t only one of the most relevant comic book miniseries to read, specially if you’re fan of Batman, but also I’ve noticed that this is a “passing the torch” moment…
…since in many media projects about Batman, on films, TV and comic books, it was usual, and not all rare, that creative teams were inspired by Batman ‘66 TV series, since almost all of the members of those creative teams grew out in an era, similar to mine, and we as kids, that was the Batman (nevermind campiness) that blew out our minds…
…but sooner or later, new creative teams that grew out in newer eras, it was logical that would “take the torch” to write new stories about Batman, and the next generation is logical that its introduction to the character and his world were Batman ‘89 and Batman: The Animated Series, and while Sean Murphy still keep some elements of Batman ‘66 and even adding newer stuff like The Dark Knight trilogy!
YOU DON’T WANT TO MISS THIS
After all these years, you still have no idea what I’m capable of?
Gotham City has disease and its name is Batman.
Jack Napier is the cure!
Vigilantism has cost too much in lives and infrastructure to the population of Gotham City and Jack is helping to reveal that people hadn’t known the peak of the big picture.
Gordon and Batman aren’t in the same page anymore, if they’d truly be anytime before.
But also Batgirl and Nightwing are considering if remaining to the side of The Dark Knight is truly the best for their own duties to protect Gotham City and its citizens that it’s looking like the new White Knight is the only logical path.
AN INSTANT CLASSIC!!!
…maybe if you two weren’t so stubborn… …you’d realize how similar you’ve become.
There is a war in Gotham City…
…in one side, there is Jack Napier, formerly known as The Joker, reformed, certified sane, and willing to do what’s necessary to make a better, safer Gotham,…
…in the other side, there is The Batman, obsessed, recklessly violent, and too much eager to do what’s necessary to prove that Joker shouldn’t be trusted…
…and in the middle there is the citizens of Gotham, suffering the consequences of this epic conflict. However, hardly, Jack and Batsy are the only ones playing a hand in this dangerous card game…
…Dr. Harleen Quinzel, formerly known as Harley Quinn, smart, resourceful, and willing to do what’s necessary to avoid that those two fellows would kill each other…
…Marian Crews, formerly a second Harley Quinn wannabe, quick-learner, loose-cannon, and willing to do what’s necessary to keep on the havok unleashed on Gotham, and what better joke like doing it using insidious plans by Jack combined with dark cold secrets from Wayne Family?
Batman, Jack, Harleen, Marian…
…who will have the last laugh in this sick game about power over Gotham City?
This is the first book, introducing the character of “Bruno”, who’s proper name is Benoît Courrèges,Great detective novel!
WELCOME TO ST. DENIS
This is the first book, introducing the character of “Bruno”, who’s proper name is Benoît Courrèges, and he is the Chief of Police, in a small town named St. Denis, set in the región of Périgord, France.
St. Denis has been a town so calm that he rarely carries his service gun, and he doesn’t have any deputies. Bruno is close friend of the town’s mayor, and St. Denis is of those towns where everybody knows everybody.
However, their relaxed ambiance is suddenly shaken when the grandfather of a very known family (from Argelian and Arabic ethnics) is found dead, and not just dead but mutilated and with a Nazi swastika carved in his chest, along with the dissapearance of a French military medal given to the grandfather and an old rugby team photo.
The Gendarmerie garrison is immediately called for assistance, along with the Police Nationale (in France, there are at least three key police branches, and each respond to different ministries, so you can bet that many times, it results in a mess of jurisdictions).
The peaceful rutiny of St. Denis is soon turned into a socio-political war zone, with the involment of radical political parties’ members.
Moreover, government officials from Paris are doing pressure that that nasty crime has to be solved fast, making worse the situation sending a public prosecutor more interested to find a culprit (any culprit) than respecting the civic rights of St. Denis’ inhabitants.
While the investigation falls into the Gendarmerie and the Police Nationale, the Mayor pulled rank to keep Bruno, right in the middle of things, as his personal liaison, and in this way, not only Bruno can do his own investigation, but also he can give his personal advice and knowledge about the townspeople to the Gendarmerie regional head and the beautiful special inspector assigned to the case, but above all, to keep St. Denis as it was before as possible.
Bruno soon will discover that he didn’t know everybody as well as he used to think, that past always catches up with present, and that sometimes justice and peacekeeping aren’t synonymous, if you want to keep together a town.
The book not only has a gripping narrative style but also the author gives to the reader a deep (real deep!) knowledge about how things are done in France in several fields, its current socio-political idiosyncrasies, but also about France’s history (especially during WWII, but also other military conflicts), even history facts quite obscure that the majority of people (even in France) don’t know about that very country.

WHEN THINGS WERE SIMPLER
…I guess… I Haven’t really thought about it… but the ones in costume never used to kill anybody…
Since Matt Murdock aka Daredevil has been wearing his trademark all red costume for so many years, it’s not rare that people tend to forget that his first superhero tights were mostly yellow.
And due that this wonderful narrative is set in the very first days of Daredevil, that’s why the great creative team of Loeb and Sale decided to title it “Yellow”, which does a kinda of loose “trilogy” along with the other Marvel stories: Spider-Man: Blue and Hulk: Gray.
Matt Murdock (very likely after the events of Born Again (you can look for my review about that story)) is doing a mourning excercise writing a letter to someone who won’t be able to read it never. Karen Page is dead, and he is questioning himself if Karen would be still alive if their lives hadn’t cross.
Therefore, Matt is remembering when he met sweet Karen for the first time…
…in a simpler age, when nobody had died (at least, once the origin story was told, in earlier pages of comic books) and super-villains were only interested in robbing banks or stealing scientific plans.
“Nelson & Murdock” is just opening for business but having a fantastic boost once Reed Richards aka Mr. Fantastic hired them to run the legal issues of the Baxter Building leasing and their technologic patents.
Oh, and once you find out why Daredevil dressed in yellow…
…and why he changed later to red…
…this great story will find a solid place in your heart.
KINGPIN FREE AREA
You can do anything as long as you’re not afraid.
A great thing about this book (among many, MANY things) is that Wilson Fisk aka The Kingpin isn’t on it. Don’t get me wrong, Kingpin is a great villain, but it’s like too usual to have Kingpin or Bullseye in Daredevil’s storylines, so…
…when a bold creative team dares to plot a narrative using other villains like The Owl, The Matador, and even Purple Man along with Electro, you get a fresher and quite different story…
…and sure, you can guess that Kingpin is behind, hiding in the shadows, behind Matt’s dad’s death done by The Fixer and his henchman Slade, but there is nothing clear in the open about it.
However, this storyline isn't about punching super-villains...
SWEET KAREN
…And I didn’t have to have eyesight to know I was looking at the most beautiful woman in the world…
Karen Page, not matter now dead, and not matter her downfall from grace, and even his greatest mistake…
…she is still one of the most beloved, known and remembered “super-heroes’ gals” that beyond her natural beauty, she was also kind, smart and brave.
Sweet Karen.
Definitely, your heart squeezes a bit, and a bitter tear appears in your eye, when you think about her, since she was one of the pioneer characters in the first years of Marvel Comics, and how due the evolution of the comic books, with darker and grittier storylines…
…she met a sad fate.
Don’t get me wrong, Born Again is one of the best comic books that I’ve ever read in my life…
…but still is quite sad that sweet Karen paid the price for it.
Your sacrifice for getting bolder storylines was priceless…
…and it’s heartwarming to remember you again as you were at the beginning.

YOUNGLINGS
Revenge of the Sith is the darkest moment of Star Wars movies, since it’s when Anakin Skywalker finally meets his fate in the balance of the Force.
It’s kinda funny that good ol’ Georgie thought that using the word “younglings” would make a milder impact on people instead of saying plainly “kids” or “children”, when Anakin does the unspeakble act againts the youngest students in the Jedi Temple.
Also, I think that The Force is quite permissive, about who enters into it,...
...since in Episode VI, you can watch Anakin as a ghost along with his pals, so it seems that you can massacre entire Tusken Raiders’ town (men, women and children) and killing “younglings” at the Jedi Temple, for not saying all the Jedi that he must kill at the following Jedi purge, etc… and still you can become one with the Force…
…yes, he repented from his sins before Luke, but hey, he did A LOT of VERY BAD things, so The Force should have some kind of purgatory I think, since it seems that got away with you evil deeds in life is kinda too easy and you still becoming one with The Force.
SO WHAT’S DIFFERENT HERE ANYWAY?
Movie versus book, you can find here…
…that Palpatine reveals himself openly to the readers since the beginning of the book, instead that the movies, that if you hadn’t read the expanded universe old novels, it wasn’t clear that Darth Sidious and Chancellor Palpatine were one and the same. Moreover, during the novel, Palpatine goes into deeper details of his master plan to defeat the Jedi Order.
…Dooku was fooled thinking that he will be part of a ruling triumvirate along with Anakin and Palpatine, and oddly, Dooku isn’t that powerful in comparison to Anakin, since in canonical novels and animated TV episodes, it was evident that no alone Jedi could be able to beat Dooku in a duel.
…also quite ood, General Grievious didn’t have the cough, result after his battle against Mace Windu.
…but the prize to the oddest in the book is that all scenes in Kashyyyk (the Wookie homeworld) aren’t developed!!!
…while you can feel it something about it in the movie, on the book it’s quite clear that Anakin is jealous of Obi-Wan and fearing that his master would be having a secret affair with Padme.
…the Jedis that go with Mace Windu to arrest Palpatine, do a kinda better battle, instead than in the movie were they’re beaten too easily.
…on the book is quite disturbing to read how much Anakin enjoys to kill Separatist Leaders once he turned to the Dark Side.
…you have clear access to the thoughts of Darth Vader once inside the protective armor, in his bitter process of truly becoming someone totally different than Anakin.
Well, fellow readers in the Force, you know the drill by now, if you have been reading my reviews about StI still like it, but it could be better!
Well, fellow readers in the Force, you know the drill by now, if you have been reading my reviews about Star Wars film novelizations, but if not, and you have fall in the carbonite complex, therefore, not having watched the film from this novelization was made, well, stop reading, since I’ll do some spoilers. Don’t say I didn’t warn you!
LOVE AT FIRST FORCE
Well, good ol’ Georgie is a business genius, and certainly quite good in many film aspects, but developing a love story isn’t between his skills…
…I can understand that young Anakin had a huge crush on Padme, come on! She’s Natalie Portman! And she didn’t change a bit in 10 years (never told but I have to assume that people from Naboo aged quite slowly), so what started as a cute chlid crush, evolved into an almost out of control crush…
…BUT PADME???!!!
Last time, she saw Anakin, he was a small tender innocent kid, but she only needed a glimpse of him, already grown up and her Naboonian female hormones started to shake up!
I know that it’s not an easy task to present a believable romance in the big screen since true love needs time, and you have time against you in a movie, especially if it’s not a romance film per se, but a sci-fi action movie with some romance elements on it.
Therefore, I think they should play with the angle that the movie didn’t start right away from the previous one ended, in fact, 10 years later, sooooo, they could employ the moving yellow words at the beginning of the film, and explain that Anakin had been personal bodyguard of Padme for at least 6 months, and Jedi-Kapow! You can read (literally!) between lines that Anakin and Padme have been close for a fair amount of time and they fell in love during that time.
WORST ACCOUNTING EVER
I am an accountant, so maybe I am a geek with an unique vision about the thing with the Clone Army…
…that mysterious Sifo-Dyas paid to the people in Kamino to raise a vast Clone Army. You can bet that it wasn’t any cheap…
…and the Jedi Council never notice that they didn’t have a good amount of their money anymore in their arcs???!
Also, Yoda, Mace Windu and Obi-Wan Kenobi, didn’t have a single clue about how the heck the Kaminoans claimed to be paid by the Jedi to make the Clone Army, but they didn’t hesitate a second to take them and put them into a “slave-like” service for the Republic (good thing that “slavery” didn’t exist in the Republic anymore!).
And nobody followed the money involved!!!
Not all battles are won with lightsabers. They only to track the accounting books.
What the heck they were doing in the Jedi Council? Only looking “cool” in their seats?! They are the leader of the Jedi Order, so they should at least one time per year to check their finances.
Why taking such extremes like Order 66? Palpatine only needed an Audit Intervention and the whole Jedi Council could end in jail for money embezzlement! And if their funds weren’t used in that (Darth Sidious and Darth Plagueis could take the money from other part), still the Jedi could be charged for property (the clones) misappropiation.
And in any case, if the Jedi have so much money…
…couldn’t they pay for the freedom of poor Shmee Skywalker, only to avoid some mental stress to Anakin, and he could stay in the safe side of the Force?!
WORST SHAPE-SHIFTER EVER
Mmh…
…why the heck, you create a Shape-Shifter Bounty Hunter, but she keeps her original outfit?! Even more ridiculous, wearing a veil in her helmet, why a veil to hide her face if she can change it?!
Yes, it’s more believable that she only change her physical body and not also her clothes, but this is where you have to avoid falling into too realism…
“Oooh! How odd, I was just chasing a female bounty hunter with your exact clothes, but nope, you have to be another person, since your face is different, yeah.” Geez!!!
JANGO & DOOKU
Jango Fett and Count Dooku must be the best things in the movie…
Jango Fett, since he has a cool Mandalorian armor, and ANYBODY is cool with a Mandalorian armor. And while he wasn’t that effective against Jedis, well, anybody without Force powers isn’t that effective against Jedis, but just watch how many Jedis has survive against true Siths, and you realize that poor Jango wasn’t that bad really.
About Count Dooku, sure, he’s a pale replacement of Darth Maul (even if he was Dracula before, no offense), but Dooku’s best moment is when he tells openly to Obi-Wan what is really going on, that a Dark Lord of the Sith is controlling the Republic, and dang Obi-Wan didn’t believe him!

This is the second volume in a DC Comics Elseworlds series, known as “Earth-One”, setting the Teen Titans in a different “Earth” than the used for its main storyline. Instead of being a monthly comic book title, it’s published as a graphic novel per volumes with non-determined publishing schedule.
Creative Team:
Writer: Jeff Lemire
Illustrator: Andy McDonald
WHY A DIFFERENT ARTIST?
The first thing that shocked me, with the second volume of Teen Titans: Earth-One, was the change of artist,...
...don’t get me wrong, I think that Andy McDonald did a great job in this second volume, but...
...usually in the Earth-One projects, the creative teams remained together, since it’s kinda something quite personal since the very conception of the new interpretation of the known characters in the Earth-One label...
...also because Terry & Rachel Dodson were the artists involved in the character design (there were even an action figure line base don their concepts), artwork, inks and colors, and they are top reknown artists in the comic book business…
…my only guess (nothing that I can confirm) is that they didn’t anticípate that the first volume would be so well received and they couldn’t arrange their work schedule to be involved in the second volume, still if so, it could be odd, since the Earth-One volumes come out whenever the creative teams want without pressure by DC Comics.
TITANS V. TITANS: DAWN OF EARTH-ONE
Victor Stone (Cyborg), Tara Markov (Terra), Garfield Logan (Changeling) and Tempest are on the run after their tragic events on the first volume, and what they thought as their “normal” lives are no more, now they’re freaks with powers that they barely know how to control and even worse, they’re hunted by the police and a secret government agency…
…while Starfire and Raven left the group and they went to Raven’s home at New Mexico.
And finally, Slade Wilson and his son are more tight that they even thought possible but without opposite agendas.
However, they’re not the only ones Titans with powers…
…the mysterious Blackfire Project, commanded by the insidious Niles Caulder, has its own strike team of Titans…
…Impulse, Wonder Girl and Kole, whom never were fooled with a “Norman Rockwell” type life, but trained as merciless soldiers since birth…
…but these new three Titans have a dark past that even themselves don’t know about…
…and they aren’t the only Titans that Caulder has…
…an eighth subject is waiting to unleashed havok on the unexperienced runaway Titans.
In a different earth, have the Teen Titans any chance of being truly Together?

THINK ABOUT THE FUTURE!!!
…but sooner or later, new creative teams that grew out in newer eras, it was logical that would “take the torch” to write new stories about Batman, and the next generation is logical that its introduction to the character and his world were Batman ‘89 and Batman: The Animated Series, and while Sean Murphy still keep some elements of Batman ‘66 and even adding newer stuff like The Dark Knight trilogy…
…you have to appreciate that the strongest creative inspirations are Batman ‘89 and Batman: TAS, and while they were already mature material, Sean Murphy took that wonderful adaptations to the next step, updating them to current audiences, just like the creative teams of old did it with Batman ‘66…
…keeping what every new creative team, in any media, have done with Batman since its creation, back then in 1939,…
…adapting the Dark Knight and its world to fit in the social mood of each generation.
The Dark Knight keeps falling in good hands to keep rising again!
Long Live the Batman!
EVERYTHING IS ACCORDING TO PLAN
Don’t get mistaken, Sean Murphy has a plan with this outstanding mini-series and if you have any doubt, just read the seventh issue…
…and you’ll happily realize that nothing has been by chance, there is an hidden order in this mayhem unleashed over Gotham City, masterfully planned by Sean Murphy.
The Batman shows that while Jack Napier is The Joker, he is in control of all the rest of the cards in the deck.
However, don’t dismiss so quickly to good ol’ Jack, since his insidious alter ego have a hidden card about a critical part of Batman’s past in his never-ending war on crime, involving a fellow fallen soldier, that I have no doubt that it will provoke a powerful impact in a very possible sequel miniseries in what DC Comics is already refering as “Murphyverse”, proving the instant success of this awesome comic book miniseries.
Gotham City is under attack by Marian Crews who evolved into something more powerful, cunning and resourceful than Jack would ever thought conceivable out of a “Harley Quinn rip-off”, that while she won’t able to cast a shadow, in the past, over the original Harley Quinn aka Dr. Harleen Quinzel…
…it’s clear as ice that she is shading a big darkness over Jack Napier…
…who is losing control of himself due the stress of this unexpected opponent…
…and definitely The Joker wants to get out and play!
Batman, Jack, Harleen, Marian…
…who will have the last laugh in this sick game about power over Gotham City?

I did review of each Episode (IV, V & VI) featured here in this edition, just look for the separate novelization of each Star Wars movie of the Original trilogy, and you'll be able to read about my thoughts on each Episode, along with the differences found on each of those said Episodes in comparison with the theatrical films.

I have bought the Omnibus edition with the three original “Star Wars” movie novelizations but I’ve chosen this edition to make a better focused review of each single book.
So, once again, if you haven't watched this movie due being frozen in carbonite for 40 years or so, then don't read any further since there are spoilers ahead! Don't say that I didn't warn you, Rebel Scum!
ANOTHER DEATH STAR…REALLY?!
Thanks to Rogue One, we now know that the Empire didn’t do on purpose the fabrication mistake leading to the destruction of the first Death Star…
…but after losing that humongous mobile station, drastically reducing the financial resources of the Galactic Empire, one thought that they should invest in ANYTHING else but…
…another blasted Death Star!!!
Geez!!!
Especially when the Emperor Palpatine didn’t wait until it would be totally finished, at least in its outside armored plates to avoid any incursión of fightercraft in the eventuality of losing the protection of the energy shield (that obviously precisely happened).
I admire Palpatine since he’s one of the very few villains that has been allowed to win and keep in control of the Empire for like 20 years, not much fiction villains are able to enjoy such long victory time without any sensible intervention of heroes. But, it’s sadly unbelievable to see that at the end of his successful period in command of the galaxy, he was “forced” (by good ol’ Georgie’s script) to come up with an uninspired plan of making a second Death Star, instead of choosing something else more ingenious and useful, like a whole fleet of Super Star Destroyers.
And to make it more indignantly, there are the Ewoks, it’s not like I hate them per se, they’re cute alright, but I still can’t believe that a bunch of space care bears were able to defeat in ground combat to a whole Imperial Stormtroopers’ detachment. I’m sure that those Ewoks should think that the Rebel Alliance were a pack of fools, since they were battling the Empire for 23 years without success and the Ewoks “beat” the Empire in an afternoon.
Geez!!!
SO WHAT’S DIFFERENT HERE ANYWAY?
I have to admit that while Return of the Jedi novelizations have several relevant additional scenes, like…
…Luke Skywalker making his new lightsaber at Obi-Wan’s house.
…Jabba is a lot more disgusting and meaner to poor Leia during her slave time.
…Ewoks were a lot more difficult to convince them to help the Rebels.
…you can read about the whole inner conflict on Darth Vader’s mind between his loyalty to the Emperor and the option of helping Luke.
…Palpatine is able to learn that Yoda was Luke’s second teacher of his Jedi training.
…the Second Death Star was seconds away of destroying Endor’s moon.
And as you can guess, always there are odd comments that they are contradictory with the whole Star Wars story, taking in account how the Prequel Trilogy was developed…
…Obi-Wan’s force spirit tells Luke that Owen Lars was his brother (what?!) and that her mom, in other words, Padmé Amidala, died when Luke and Leia were four years old (dang!).
…Palpatine’s backstory is told in detail, but due the Prequel trilogy, and even if you may indulge me with the existence of some (now “legends” (non-canonical)) novels like Darth Plagueis (that it should be titled Darth Sidious, since it was more developed the life of Palpatine than Plagueis), you may guess that many of those details became contradictory....more

WANTED: BATMAN
I’ve thought about this moment for decades. Wondered what I’d do if I ever got to see you like this. All broken and vulnerable… … …oh god… …what have I done…?
Commisioner James Gordon had it. The Batman is no longer a vigilante. Now the Dark Knight is considered a super-criminal and therefore, he should be arrested by any means necessary…
…and Nightwing may get just the thing needed to get the job done!
It’s the greatest moment for Jack Napier, but…
…even now, The Batman must be respected, must be protected…
…since Jack has no quarrel with anyone under the hood…
…even arrested and confined to Arkham Asylum…
…The Batman’s true identity must be remained concealed…
…since Jack’s nemesis isn’t the whoever mortal under the cloak…
…Jack’s enemy is something too big…
…Jack’s opponent is The Batman.
However, Gotham City would be hardly any safer even if the Dark Knight falls…
…since Marian Crews (formerly Harley Quinn wannabe) have very COLD plans for Gotham…
…and those plans were hidden in the very Wayne Manor since WWII!!!
Batgirl and Dr. Harleen Quinzel, both want to safe any sanity remained in the minds of The Batman and Jack Napier, but…
