I haven't read much age gap where the women is older, and had seen a lot of really great reviews for this, so had high expectations, despite it not particularly sounding like something I'd typically pick up. And I should've trusted my gut - I love me an age gap, but the way they had a mother/son sort of relationship for a while when he was in college and he kind of fetishises that just wasn't for me. ...more

If this is a style of writing you enjoy, I can see how it would be captivating, because I do think the book was successful at what it was trying to do. It's just not a style I personally enjoy, there was too much modern slang and references which isn't something I enjoy in books in general, especially fantasy books, and the heroine's internal monologue was irritating to me....more

I really wouldn't recommend this one to anyone who has ever struggled with eating and/or exercise disorders. My review is likely a bit biased because of that, too. However, I am aware that this is a personal thing and know a lot of people who would enjoy this story and not be affected by it like I was, so I don't think it's really fair of me to rate it when I wouldn't really be rating it for the writing/story itself, but rather my own very personal reactions to sensitive content.
From a story side, I personally thought this was too rushed, and because of that I didn't feel their connection at all and kind of just didn't really care what happened? I think the story would've worked a lot better if it could've been fleshed out in a full length novel. While I wouldn't necessarily say the writing is bad, it's definitely not Rebekah's strongest work, and you can see how much her writing has improved over the years when you compare it to some of her other, more recent works.
Honestly, I don't really have much else to say, because my opinion of it was so clouded by how triggering it was to me. I think if the plot interests you/you've read and liked Rebekah's other works you might want to give this a try, but if you might be triggered by heavy discussions involving eating (including shaming herself for eating 'bad' foods, tracking her food intake, etc,), exercise, weight, appearance, etc., I would give it a miss. ...more

Honestly, their relationship was just textbook abusive and not really something I want to read about, to be honest - there's dark romance and then there's just plain bad, and this was the latter. There was so much cultural disconnect between the two main characters which could make sense given that they are two different species, but they've been cohabiting the same areas for this long and not learnt anything about each other? My sense of disbelief was just not having it.
The heroine was one of the most annoying, spineless characters I've ever read about, and the breeding kink was just a bit much. If I had to read the word seed one more time... Also, the size of a young TREE TRUNK?! Miss ma'am that does not sound pleasurable.
tbh this just kind of read like badly written lord of the rings erotica fanfic, so if that's your thing go ahead....more
I love the age gap/dad's friend trope BUT only when it's legal and ethical, like everyone is a consenting adult with no grooming in sight, wh2.5 stars
I love the age gap/dad's friend trope BUT only when it's legal and ethical, like everyone is a consenting adult with no grooming in sight, which was the case in Seducing My Guardian, so thank god! They briefly meet when she's 16 and he technically become her guardian but they don't actually have a relationship or interact until she's 19 (from which point they see each other briefly once a year), and nothing is romantic or sexual until long after that (when she's 24).
Honestly this was probably more of a 2.5 stars for me but rounded up as a 2 felt a little harsh - I felt like the age gap romance wasn't done as well as a previous book in the series, Your Dad Will Do, and whilst the smut was okay, it wasn't really anything special. I also felt like the romance was a bit much, they've barely ever interacted and didn't know each other at all so it did come a little out of nowhere with how heavy they went for that, I would've preferred it to be a little calmer (view spoiler)[(like for them to just start dating, not be talking about marriage and babies and forever) (hide spoiler)]. I also felt like a lot of the plot points were just never explained or elaborated on (like why he was her guardian when they'd never met, her parents had never mentioned him and her Mum was a pacifist?), and whilst I get that this was a novella, I think if you're going to bring up fairly large plot points/questions then you need to answer them, or at least give some sense of closure. Hazel's whole rich princess thing was a little much, as was the way she went on about grief - didn't really feel like the book needed it, and was just another one of those plot points that wasn't explored enough, if it was going to be in there. Also, her social media/influencer career bothered me because the way it was discussed is just factually incorrect and not how it works, and as someone who works in that industry it just really threw me out of the story.
Whilst this wasn't my favourite of the series, it was a quick, fun, easy read, so I'd definitely still recommend to any fans of Katee Robert or anyone looking for an easy and enjoyable smutty read....more

The only time the main character is explicitly said to be autistic, this is what is said:
“The Fed’s brain-doctor thought she might be autistic, but they don’t really know for sure. Then again, they label everyone autistic, these days.”
I really hope I don't have to explain to anyone how factually incorrect and offensive that is. Not only is autism underdiagnosed and often misdiagnosed, it's often even more so in anyone who is not a straight cis white able bodied male.
On top of the factually incorrect and harmful autistic rep, I just wasn't a fan of the writing style or the dynamic between the characters - he seemed to really infantilise her and it was creepy. Also, I personally don't have a facial difference but the way the male main character's facial difference was written did not sit well with me based on everything I know as a member of the disabled community (I couldn't find any reviews of this book by any individuals with facial differences). ...more

I wanted to love this, because bodyguard romances give me LIFE, but this just wasn’t it. Slut shaming, very dubious consent in sexual activities, fat shaming, etc. made for an uncomfortable read. Even if it wasn’t for that, the plot didn’t really make sense and it kept jumping around all over the place. I felt like I was reading the third or fourth book in the series and was expected to know tonnes of background information I was never provided. It’s not exactly insta-love, as the characters have known each other for 6 months before the book starts, but we see no build up or development in their relationship. Honestly this was just really confusing, and the steamy scenes were very sub par, so there really isn’t anything to redeem it. ...more
